@Kdom:
It’s you who ask me about my lecture diversity. Also if for you adventure=story then of course this discussion is useless. Is the story necessary to tell a story ? Really that is an interesting question. Are we discussing One Piece or Nouveau Roman Also, you avoided to answer my argument about the drawings when I think it explains a little the different point of view we have on the serie.
What would be the point of answering that question though? It's the same question as why Oda is writing a story, or why it's that long or something like that. It's something that i don't have an answer to. I am well aware of storytelling having a lot more than just plot relevance, and i don't like to ever limit a work to "PLOT", but the entire point of my argument was to say that action in One Piece requires heavily on other elements of the series to work. I don't claim for fights to be pointless nor i personally care about them all that much.–- Update From New Post Merge ---@Razh:
The "whole package wouldn't work without action" does not equal to "action is the only thing holding One Piece together". You were saying adventure is one of the pillars of OP while action isn't, and I said I disagreed and considered action equally important. In retrospect, I might have phrased it in a way that doesn't allow misinterpretation.Too much action sucks of course, especially when it's done poorly, like in DS. I'm still hoping SH find the time to end up on some crazy island which isn't part of a main quest. Like, it could be the location of that last RP.
Essentially action is a small gear in between the big gears. It's necessary for plot advancement because of how Oda has structured his story. However it's not an element that can work on it's own with Oda's particular story structure. And that's pretty much my entire argument. And i agree. Too much action is plainly boring to read. It's one of the reasons why i end up rushing Enies Lobby arc main fights to get to the parts that i love.For me the best parts of One Piece is when SH's are relaxing, exploring and having those quirky interactions. I love the semi-complex story, and how everything is connected to one another. However i once in a while hope Oda to just forget about the big picture, and yonkous and whatnot and just make an arc like Skypeai again that is relevant in subtle way but still have a self-contained story.
