Chapter 823: Stirring World

It probably will be, for the most part. We'll only get to see bits and pieces, like with any other important world event not involving SH. Unless Oda changes his policy, which is also possible, because he can't keep holding things out on us if he's ever going to wrap this story up.

It's funny how the BBs always manage to accomplish the "impossible". They defeated Ace, became Yonkou Crew and now they destroyed Baltigo (I have to say I couldn't imagine the Thing with Baltigo, but I was sure about the Ace and Yonkou Thing before those things happened).
But now all the non-believers of Baltigo's destruction (including me) have the Chance to feel the same way the WG feels when the SHs accomplish the "impossible" (defeating 3 Shichis, defeating Rob Lucci and so on).
Our reaction to the stuff that BB accomplishes is pretty much the same reaction as the WG's when the SHs accomplish their stuff.

Dragon was discussed already 8 yrs ago, thats two Reveries, so there was one between the current and the one 8yrs ago. We don't know if Dragon was discussed 4 yrs ago. But I think it was sure that he was discussed, he is the most wanted criminal. 8 yrs ago he was like "this dude could become troublesome in the future".

He was given the promotion and the title of hero Alabasta. Him throwing a tantrum didn't chnage that.
Ever since Hina was intrduced she is always one rank below and this hold true even at the war. So her being a rear admiral while Smoker is VA is just continuing the trend that was there from the beginnig rather than her falling behind.

Alright, here are my quick thoughts:

• Nice to see Vivi and her dad again, as well as Pell.

• Well what do ya know, Sabo's little shitty bro became king of Goa. Pfft! -_-

• Honestly, I'm not really surprised that Carrot snuck in the ship.

• Holy crap, the revolutionary army's base got destroyed!? I really hope that Dragon and his group just abandoned the base before Blackbeard arrived and BB just destroyed it out of frustration once he got there to only find out that no one is there. :(

Overall, this was an okay chapter.

Well clearly he got the title of hero despite refusing it and the guy on the phone wasn't even listening to his complaining. Both were given rather than proposed. We saw the first happen(being the hero) and he is higher in the totem next time we see him. So no reason to assume they listened to him. At Alabasta Hina is one rank below, On MF Hina is one rank bellow. She didn't fall behind, Smoker just got an head-start.

I don't really agree to disagree but I don't really have a choice.

One of the little things in this chapter that I like is seeing Wapol and his queen. I'd really like to know her name, surely its really not Ms. Universe?
I can't wait until we see that panel in the colored version. While I know her official hair color, I wonder what the official color scheme is and how far off I was in my guess.

No different than off-paneling the finisher for Ace vs. Blackbeard, or Akainu's duel with Aokiji….they're all events between the big players that don't need to be showcased, and they show the world as fluid and active without the Strawhats.

you know, while we don't know exactly what happened on Baltigo, the revolutionaries is no match for any of the Yonko's.

Even if dragon was the most capable warrior in one piece, along with Sabo a beast no doubt, Ivankov and the other dude. Against the ten titans, Kuzan and Blackbeatd himself, plus whoever else is under his umbrella. its a total mismatch really.

I still don't understand what makes this better than Dressrosa or why that "impactful" part of your post even matters when discussing arc quality.
Zou is in the bottom half of One Piece arcs for me.
Nowhere near arcs like Baratie/Arlong or Skypiea or Dressrosa or PH or Jaya or Impel Down or Marineford or Saobody or Thriller Bark etc etc.

It's still a net loss because the location of their secret base was revealed and they'll all have to leave and establish a new one somewhere.

All the minks, Nekomamushi in special, Raizou and shit ton of revelations, the most expensive head so far being blown out by a giant elephant's trunk, and a pretty short concise arc. I can see why people are enjoying as much as they do. For me it's a pretty solid and overall fun arc, maybe not the best, but I will remember it fondly.

If you look at the tattoo on that guy's head, it has a very striking resemblance to Momo's DF form. Now I know that is a rather common "eastern dragon" design, but the shape of the horns and the body offer a very striking resemblance. Perhaps a clue of things to come?

Maybe That is just to look cool, because there are many persons have a Dragon tattoo.

But when I look at Gins tattoo resembles the tattoo person from Shanks crew, and Doctor Kureha tatto almost resembles Mr. 1, maybe its more that just an ordinary tattoo (an Organization symbol?), and with that Doctor Kureha have a reason for going to Reverie.

Oda colored her on one of the databooks. The anime will do the same colors, most likely. Considering the name of the kingdom is Black Drum, and all its inhabitants wear inked clothes, they most likely have all their clothing black. Except for little details here and there.

Thanks for that image. Though I should have been more clear, I'd like to know their official colors since the formation of the Evil Drum Kingdom. It has changed some, the Wooly fur Wapol wore in that pic was white, just like what he wore in the Drum arc, but in the cover that showed the EDK (the pic that I've colored) it showed the fur as dark. So at the very least, that has changed colors from before.
That pic shows her Ms. Universe, it doesn't show her after the EDK formation (new dress and mask) or her clothing's colors.

… and it just now dawned on me that I've not checked the colored manga to se if that image's colored smacks head and runs off

Yup it's colored here.
Wapol's fur cape is indeed black. The black business-like top is gone, a white shirt instead. I totally messed Wapol's hair XD and she wears a maroon dress. I got the stairs looking like marble right, though they aren't the black and white marbling I went for. and they don't have the background looking so spooky as I did lol

Blackmail? How would that work? Why would the government want a defeated man? If BB captured Dragon that means he also wiped out his entire army meaning he's not a threat anymore.

It is ridiculous to think anything more than a small skirmish happened and then the BB pirates just captured the island with little resistance.

We are talking 2 of the biggest world powers here. A small skirmish probably wouldn't be enough to capture and completely destroy the secret strong hold of the Revolutionaries. A significant battle probably took place where Black Beard eventually got the upper hand.

Not saying that Dragon or his men were outright defeated though.

A small skirmish between BB and Dragon by themselves would be enough to destroy an island.

I feel you, but in the case of BB vs Ace we saw at least so much, that it was obvious who would turn out on top.
Akainu vs Aokiji was the outcome more important than the battle.
Non the less Oda definitely is greedy on showing us fights of non SH characters. (i include the SH fleet fights)
In Marineford we only got glimpses which could have been handled a bit better in my opinion, because WB vs Akainu was awesome but way to short. (even when in a war short full force fights are more likely)

Now begins the time, where bigger names might collide and i hope Oda will show us those fights, because skipping over them (like Kaidou vs SHanks) might be reasonable when the outcome is the only important part, but hyping those confrontations without us showing (like with Baltigo now) would suck, because it would be something fresh and new to see on which level big names fight each other, to forshadow for us what will await Luffy.
Also not all big names can go down by Luffy and not seeing those awesome characters fight with their full potential in the story would be a shame.
Now that the end game has begun, i hope we see Kidd, BB and others fight before actually confronting them with the SHs.
Also having other characters fight each other could be a way to be creative for Oda, by showcasing how different DFs fight against each other and what fighting strategies other characters use.
