Man, I let kids play with my DS and 3DS, and they jammed the game cards in backwards. Now they won't play anything…
Wait the cartridges were fit all the way into the slot backwards or just partway?

@Purple:
Delete the old update file. Nintendo has this stupid method of updating where the new update file contains all the previous updates as part of the package.
Thanks.
I think I actually got it figured out. Had to delete the SSB update from Download Management and then start the update. The update finally went through, but man, it's taking up a huge amount of space on the system (something like 2300 MB). May still have to get an external hard drive down the line, but we'll see how it goes.

In the DS, just about all the way. The 3DS game got jammed at the little extra arm, but both seem to have their pins bent so there's nothing to do unless I find my triwing screwdriver.
On another note, kids growing up on tablets seem helpless when it comes to using buttons to play games.

Ouch that sounds even worse than getting your DS screens separated

It's things like this that make me glad I don't have kids. I do hope you're able to fix them

It costs too much to send it in and I'm scared of fixing them myself, so I'm just selling them for parts and using the money to fund my New 3DS XL. And THAT is staying well away from kids.
Kids being kept away from a handheld aimed at kids. The irony.

16 characters of touché.

Ah that's as good a plan as any.

Back in my day, we knew how to properly take care of our portable systems with all its cartridges, and buttons, and whatnot.

I once poured water into the cartridge port of my Sega Game Gear (don't remember exactly why) but I knew full well nothing good would come of it but did it anyway. Had no regrets after the fact.
Hey guys, sorry if this is random but I'm gonna be coming into some money soon, likely within the next few days. It'll be enough to get me a nintendo console at least, which would be awesome. The plan was to go for the wii u, but all these rumors about the NX makes me think I should maybe hold off on that. I'm also not opposed to just going with a 3ds or something, I'm sure a nintendo handheld can prove to be just as good if not better than any current nintendo console for now.
Problem is I pretty much HAVE to spend the money as soon as I get it. I won't go into detail but cash just does not last long with my family even if we try our hardest to save up. NX might not even come out this year and if it does it'll most likely be way late in 2016, by that time any expendable money I'd have would be long spent already.
So, I'd like to know what you guys suggest I do. My main draws for nintendo have always been zelda and mario, metroid and DK are great fun too but not huge system sellers, at least as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, with all that said I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Spring for the 3DS since that more or less has the games you like sans metroid game it's also cheaper depending on which version you're getting.
The Wii U has a pretty great lineup so if you're at all interested in those games (Wind Waker HD is amazing for one, given that you like Zelda games), I say get one. Screw all the NX rumors.
Back in my day, we knew how to properly take care of our portable systems with all its cartridges, and buttons, and whatnot.
Yeah, from your experience. But i guarantee that kids be kids doing stupid shit no matter where you go.
It's probably also why the 2DS is a bit chunkier and built for some damage
Admittedly, I do remember hearing way too many experiences of people dropping their portable system in the toilet.

I have around $400-500 to burn so I'd probably would go with the 3ds like you said plus a few games, although a friend told me last year that the 2ds has better battery life. I don't know, either one is fine I guess.
However, I really should have mentioned before that I absolutely want to play the next Zelda title, for the wii u/nx. I'm also crazy interested in the HD releases of WW and TP. WW I've never played and TP, while not the most popular zelda title, is definitely a very nostalgic game for me and still super fun imo. And then there's the rumor of NX being backwards compatible which will more or less make the wii u obsolete.
Man, this is what's kept me from making a decision already. I apologize if this all just sounds like dumb nerd rambling, it totally is but I just want to be careful with what I buy and make sure it's worth it. I'm sure you guys know, expendable money doesn't come around that often. Anyway, I'm pretty convinced there's no best option for me here, I'm just gonna have to take a chance with whatever I go with.
Thanks greenvsred, I appreciate the advice. Take care.
@foolio Thanks man, I think that's what I'll do. And since the 3ds is fairly affordable by now, I'll probably just get that with my next paycheck. Hopefully NX doesn't make me regret my decisions once we all find out what it finally is.
Yeah, there's just no way to know what the NX will bring. Backwards compatibility is something that people ALWAYS wonder each generation, and rumors get going every time. But at this point we have absolutely nothing but rumors. We don't know what year it will release, what compatibility it will have, or what games if any will be cross-gen (like Zelda).
Rumor has it that the NX is going to be stronger than the PS4 and XBone combined, is powered by smog covering Beijing, can cure AIDS and cancer, and will exclusively have Megaman 11.
The only confirmed thing I know about the NX is that it features some kind of connectivity to the 3DS and Wii U

Not even that really. We know that Nintendo has referenced some super high-level vague plan of interconnectivity between ALL Nintendo devices (mobile, consoles, handhelds, maybe even computers or QoL crap eventually?), and we know that the NX is ostensibly in the console category there. But there has been no mention of any NX-specific features or connectivity.
Will the NX be when Nintendo finally releases the Wii Vitality Sensor???

Nintendo has stated already that their quality of life products are still not at a level at which they feel ready to release them or disclose further information.
So anything like the vitality sensor probably won't be seen for another long while.

I thought just this month they announced that the entire quality of life branch is on hold for now?

You're dead wrong for that Hermit.

Either way I would probably buy a Nintendo QoL product just about as soon as I'd buy a Sony fast food restaurant meal.
I barely have an idea of what they intended to do in the first place, so I can't really say whether I'd invest in it myself or not. I'd have to see the product first before really deciding on it.
And hey, Sony Fast Food could be fantastic. Free selected menu items each month if you have playstation plus. It'd be better than Nintendo fast food, where they serve japanese customers first and then once your food arrives they changed a few things to match what they think you'll like best instead of what you actually wanted.
Though the Nintendo fast food kids meals would definitely have the better toys.
Get the WiiU and splatoon, can't go wrong with that! and then you should still have enough for a 3DS
New Nintendo Selects have finally been announced.

This is especially beneficial for Ocarina of Time 3D & Pikmin 3, which have both been overpriced for a while now due to lack of stock.

Yay! I can finally buy Pikmin 3!
Grr, should've waited a little longer to buy Tropical Freeze though.

Where the Nintendo Mighty Wings At?:ninja:
Edit: Jokes aside it's nice to see Nintendo start selling their games at a discounted price…............finally.
For this generation at least. Nintendo's Player Choice discounted titles have existed since forever as far as I know. I recall seeing some SNES ones, have no idea if it went back father than that.
Happy with the new round of Selects titles, as Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, and OOT3D are all games I was going to buy but kept putting off, and in the case of Pikmin 3 is pretty much impossible to find. I still see OOT3D in stores all the time around here, even though it's apparently out of print? Guess it just didn't sell well in my neighborhood or something.
The only downside is I don't like the red bordering on the cover, but that's just me being super nitpicky.
As an aside I really hope Pikmin and Pikmin 2 get released on the eShop. They both have Wii ports so it should be easy. It's a series I've always been meaning to play through but other games just keep bumping it to the back of the line.
I just received my pre-order of Bravely Second, and I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying it, but at the same time I'm getting real tired of the liberties Nintendo is taking in editing content. It's one thing to edit some outfits, but remove a few non-related to the main plot lines of voiced dialogue is an entirely different matter. I could care less if they covered some cleavage that stands out too much, but the later part is kinda infuriating. And then there's the fact they altered an entire outfit because of ethnic reasons.
Some of you will probably say I'm overreacting, but cmon, how would you feel if you found out certain content from your favorite videogame was modified/removed for no apparent reason? Not many more videogames that get taken by this company I'm going to buy if this keeps up.
Ubisoft is having a sale right now if anybody wants to pick up Child of Light and/or Rayman Legends and/or any other assortment of stuff that doesn't sound as appealing
Direct tomorrow
I think they will just announce Star Fox release date, Fates release in the european one, some eshop stuff, and maybe a somewhat big announcement that should be kept for e3 and not burned months before
I bet Yokai Watch is a thing too
Crossing my fingers for Fates and Yokai watch to come in March.
Hm. What do they actually have coming up? More info for Star Fox seems like a given, plus DLC/Revelation info for Fates (hopefully European release date). potentially teasing Mother 3 for NoA
Mother whenever it happens it will be like earthbound beginnings, announcement and release same day.
I bet Yokai Watch is a thing too
I believe Yokai Watch is coming on April 21st to us finally, Fire Emblem no idea yet. It's so frustrating, it seemed like it was getting better unless the company was called Atlus, but now we are getting a lot of stuff late…several months late.
No idea nor do I care(unless they make me) about what they will talk for the Wii U besides Zelda and maybe Starfox.
Only talking about games released through the sumner? well may be possible to get new Pokken character(s) and a Mother 3 NoA release would be cool.
I don't know whether to call myself an optimist or pessimist here but i reckon we will see nearly all of everything Nintendo has coming out in 2016. This is because they want to save e3 for 99% NX software as that will be the big thing so get all the 3ds and Wii U stuff out of the way now.
The only two major things that may get ignored here are pokemon sun & moon and Zelda U. I say this because i reckon that either of those could get their own direct at some point (If zelda NX is a thing they could just wait to reveal that to talk about new info).
I can't think of anything worth talking about tomorrow except Star Fox and MAYBE if those Mother 3 Rumors end up being true, they can surprise us with that…. Otherwise.... what are they gonna talk about?
Maybe they'll finally announce Rhythm Heaven is coming west <_<
Fed Force news would be nice.
News of its cancellation (or delay to rework it) to make a proper Metroid game? Yes, that would be nice.
Well it's Metroid's 30th anniversary but I am not getting my hopes up since Zelda's anniversary is overshadowing Metroid's anniversary.
