It always so funny that the response to someone calling GG a hive of scum and villainy is usually 'it's bad for business' like GG actually has any kind of power
Being reprehensible, aggravating, and annoying aren't powers?
Well shit.

@Purple:
let's also not forget that even if video games don't cause sexism that they may still be sexist themselves
Including the gaming culture and industry.

Gamergate's newest enemy: Canada.
That's pretty much exactly the face I expected Gamergate to have, minus the headgear.
-
that's right GG. go after the leader of one of the biggest countries in the world. you do that. have fun.
-
Not that it's even going to matter.
He has his campaign staff to moderate his Twitter account; they're here to filter out all the crap he'd get from trolls, including Skeletons.
-
Bad hair, giant glasses, looks to be 14 at best? Decides that even being mentioned is a cue to rally violence rather than start discussion?
Yeah, that's Gamergate alright.
-
Gamergate doesn't work outside the internet and associated cultures. Going after a real issues politician will go absolutely nowhere lol.
Most rl conservatives would call them "pansy-ass virgin atari boys" or something and chase them away from anything. It is a thankful thing that the old generations of the far right are incompatible with the young ones.

So GG doesn't understand how criticism works, what else is new?
None of the mainstream gaming sites had talk about GamerGate since the movement basically died down a bit. There's still more of those guys that pop up once in awhile.
Hell! Not even Kotaku made an article about the Funi GamerGate controversy. Even they are like… "Yeah? Not even we will Knowledged them anymore?" lol

When Kotaku doesn't even want to keep you relevant, you know you got a problem.

Guesssss whats still in the news, making threats of violence, getting stuff they don't like cancelled
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/oct/27/sxsw-festival-pulls-pro-and-anti-gamergate-panels-after-threats
http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/10/28/sxsw-let-the-gamergate-terrorists-winyes, the pro-gamergate panel got shut down too, but it seems clear this was all due to threats against the "fighting harassment" panel.
[Hide]Dear Caroline,
This email serves as notice that SXSW Interactive has made the decision to cancel the “Level Up: Overcoming Harassment in Games” session for March 2016 in Austin.
On the one hand, we are an event that prides itself on being a big tent and a marketplace of diverse people and diverse ideas.
On the other hand, preserving the sanctity of that big tent at SXSW Interactive necessitates that we keep the dialogue civil and respectful — so that people can agree, disagree and embrace new ways of thinking in a safe and secure place. We have already received numerous threats of violence regarding this panel, so a civil and respectful environment seems unlikely in March in Austin. For this reason, we have also canceled other sessions at the 2016 event that focused on the Gamergate controversy.
We are strong believers in community at SXSW — and a healthy community sometimes requires strong management. Preserving the sanctity of the big tent is more important than preserving any particular session.

Not only Buzzfeed, but Vox and The Verge have also pulled their events and any of their support unless they reinstate the panels. Because SXSW should have enough security to handle any threats made made by some online jackasses. If the freaking Pokemon Tournament can keep the terrorists out, so should they.
-
- Panel gets created on fighting harassment
- Organizers cancel panel due to harassment
The amount of irony is almost unbearable. Shame on them for trying to wash their hands of the problem by taking the easy way out. Which only encourages more threat tactics because hey, they worked!
-
Ugh, what an embarrassment for the city and festival.
-
Welp, the outcry bore through to their brain, it looks like. Not only did SXSW un-cancel the panels, they're adding on a DAY-LONG SUMMIT to discuss online harassment. With live-stream.
http://www.sxsw.com/news/2015/sxsw-announces-march-12-online-harassment-summitThey've invited a ton of academics and other higher ups to speak, including one of my state's freaking Congresswomen. This shit's for real.
-
Good.

And shit like this is why I don't go back to Facebook anymore…
Until now. 16 text of WTF?

What exactly did he expected? It´s a website that talks about a subject no one gives two f**** about.
Read a couple of non gamergate crap related articles and they were nothing special. People can be real delusional about the importance of certain subjects sometimes.Anyway, obligatory skeleton related stuff

Buzzfeed, Gawker, The Mary Sue, DailyKos, HuffPo, and other outlets have already picked this story up, but not until after it spread internationally:
Gamergate photoshopped an outspoken critic of GG with a Quran and suicide vest– and claimed he was one of the Paris attackers on social media,
using the app ISIS used to claim responsibility for what happened in France last weekend.
I am BEYOND words at how fucked up it is.Veerender is Sikh; one of the goddamn lovingest religions there is. He co-hosts a podcast with one of my closest friends; he's just a goofy kid.
This, on top of all the disgusting racism he already has to deal with on twitter every day.His life could be put seriously at risk by this.
Fuck this bullshit. -

Fuck this bullshit. It's funny because the rank and file ISIS members are near exactly the same profile as GG people.
Young frustrated reactionary men struggling to get laid and blaming other people for it.
If GG dudes were born in Egypt or somewheres they'd probably already have taken a flight to Syria by now.(just as aside Sikhism has it's violent tendencies as much as any religion, took out Indira Gandhi for instance)
-
Well if this has taught us anything else about GG it's the facts
1. They don't know how selfies are supposed to work.
2. The difference between Sikhs and Muslims.
3. The name of any other Canadian cities besides Toronto.Edit: In retrospect 2 and 3 aren't even exclusive to them.
-
Sikhism is extremely martial on the basis of it springing up in a nasty frontier area that used to be invaded constantly by Islamic empires from the west, and sometimes also hostile Hindus. Making it super ironic on some level.
Though also they formed on some influence from Islam too so it's interestingly complicated. -
On today's news, GG attempts to prove that DOAX3 won't be coming to the west because of potential backlash from feminists and not because the games sell like crap.
Turns out they can't.
-
First off, Tecmo-Koei kinda did this themselves. They fanned the flames on it. They posted a few very Engrishy statements on Facebook announcing that, basically, the games weren't getting western releases because they're afraid of backlash against sexism due to western tastes changing.
Then Play-Asia followed up with a really childish set of tweets that was basically "Whiny SJWs are why you can't get an English version of this, but don't worry, we got your back" in order to drum up sales.
In reality, there is NO actual organized effort from ANYBODY to actually try to get his game banned. At best, it's the developers being overly cautious about a backlash they THINK might happen, not based on any actual feedback…..
But then again, If the games actually sold decently, I don't think they'd care. They'd release the games here anyway because, clearly the market will have spoken, and the market wants this game. But no, the first game sold very poorly, profitable, but poor, and the second game Sold LESS THAN HALF as many copies in North America as the first one sold. I mean, if they're being completely truthful here, I could see them looking at the numbers, and then looking at the ongoing debate about sexism in games and assuming one lead to the other and reacting.
I think there's more going on tho. To really figure out what's happening here and, what I believe to be the true motive here, we really need to take a good look at sales numbers for the series.
DOA:XBV1
North America: 0.36m
Japan: 0.14m
Europe: 0.08m
Rest of the world: 0.02m
Total: 0.59mDOA:XBV2
North America: 0.14m
Japan: 0.06m
Europe: 0.03m
Rest of the World: 0.02m
Total: 0.25mAt first glance, that looks like America has the highest sales, however, when you realize that America is just a vastly bigger place than Japan with WAY more people, it's obvious that a higher percentage of Japanese buy the game than Americans.
Add to this that they DO have to market the game for it to sell (commercials on TV, Magazine, internet ads, In-store ads etc) and I wouldn't be surprised if DOAX2 was a loss for the company.
I mean, look. This is VASTLY diminishing returns. I doubt it has much to do with "SJW" influence either, considering the Volleyball in the game isn't very good to begin with. It's got one purpose, oggling girls, and you already have two games with which to do that. There's not much they can do to tweak the formula.
Add to this that the last entry came out ELEVEN years ago and this isn't exactly a series people have been clamboring for, and you have a recepie for disaster if they released it outside the one market that might still enjoy it (Japan).
So what could they do to sell more copies?
Well, they could just stick it up digitally on the PSN. The problem is They'd still have to pay to have it translated and localized, plus Sony gets a cut of the profit, tho I'm not sure exactly how much... but with the aforementioned diminishing returns means they'd have to drastically scale back or even entirely forego marketing... which only makes the problem worse....
BUT!
Let's say they tell the west "Sorry, we'd like to release the game for you guys, but the mean ole SJWs won't let us!".... NOW we're looking at something.
The gaming news media suddenly jumps on it. It's news. A Large chunk of people who otherwise wouldn't have bothered to look twice at it are suddenly "Outraged". People decry "Censorship", want the game to release here, make petitions etc....
Then one of two things happen:
A: The company just sits back and watches Japanese copies of the game sell out as the morons fall right into their hands and start importing the game en-masse.
or.
B: A short time later, they announce that they heard the pleas of the people decrying the mean ole SJWs and announce they'll stand up to them by releasing the game Digitally in the west AFTER ALL
They get tons of free marketing and a huge sales boost due to the "Outrage" they entirely manufctured. Because, again, most of us who talk about Sexism in games have kinda written off the DOAX series due to the diminishing returns. Those games aren't something I'd say I like, but I also saw them as harmless because of how little relevance or spread they had.
That's why these GG folks are having a hard time finding evidence there was actually an outcry this time.Because there wasn't.
-
A follow up, turns out Koei themselves are saying that their social media guy was full of shit.At the moment, Play-Asia gloats that their sales are increasing…but it's only a matter of time before they realize that by pandering to GG, they'll lose more customers than they have gained. Either way, this is their new audience.
I can't for the life of me figure out HOW people fell for that reasoning to begin with. I can name at least 10 game series that are as lewd as DOA, if not more, at the top of my head. They never seemed to have any problems getting a western release, and none of their developers claimed to have been attacked en masse by SJWs or anything.
But, for the heck of it, let's run with the narrative that KT decided against localizing the game because they feared criticism. Gaters always complain when feminist critics disable comments because they want a safe space free from criticism (said criticism being slander and threats). Then a game company decides not to release a game in order to avoid criticism, and not only do they get a pass from them; they get their full support.
It's baffling that they're dumping 75$ on an import of a game they never cared for, thinking that'll trigger SJWs. At this point, I almost feel bad for them.
-
I'm honestly a bit confused as to why people don't want to take credit for possibly influencing the decision to not have the game brought to America/Europe, especially since at least one of the characters is blatantly a child.
Isn't having companies think twice about releasing sketchy shit kind of the goal? Or at least a goal?

They wanted proof that skeletons were stealing their video games from them.

I don't think preventing games from being localised in one of the goals.
I'm pretty sure there was no pressure to stop the localisation, just Tecmo-Koei don't see themselves making any money by releasing it in the west and some idiot handling their facebook page started this whole debacle.
