Time matters not in the wacky, topsy-turvy backwards land known as Florida.
And I can guarantee you that those prisons won't recognize transgender inmates as their identified gender and throw them in the wrong facilities.
There's a reason they have to be "taught" you don't put a lying witness on the stand.
So they can ignore it and do it anyway on top of purposely sinking their own cases using other means?

I'm genuienly no longer horrified, disgusted, or non plussed about what happens in Florida.

This is well into the 20th century. Still shocks people as it should.
I stopped reading after the story of Luther Holbert:sick:.

Whenever I look at horrifying photos of things like cannibalism in the Russian 1921 famine, or aftermath of anti-democracy riots in Thailand in the 70's, there's always this little silly pang in the back of my head that goes something like "Man it's crazy out there in the world in recent history, we had our problems but abject nightmare fuel that makes you doubt human decency not so much."
Nothing brings me back down to earth quicker than lynching photos. And it's not even the dead body.
It's the faces on the crowds.
That actually was the first thing I noticed when I saw the pictures. The smiling posing faces. So happy. So smug. So sickening.

100% this. As someone who took any and every form of American history class, I routinely ran into that post-Reconstruction era where lynchings became commonplace and the pictures that accompanied them.
My African American History teacher actually brought in a postcard that a man visiting Georgia sent to his family in New York which had a picture of a lynching of a man and his wife saying how it was great to see, and I quote, the community get together for a good cause.

Holy fucking shit, I thought lynchings took place in the dead of night or something, not at daytime carnival parties

Why hold them in the dead of night when everybody's asleep. When you can hold them in broad daylight, bring the kids, and if you play your cards right get a souvenir in the form of a severed finger.

And it's not exactly like it was just a bunch of crazy hillbillies doing this. We're talking doctors, newspaper editorials and senators going down to take their families and bring home souvenirs. It sounds absolutely insane and something that belongs in some cannibal tribe in the New Guineas. But nono, it's relatively recent history. As much as I may dislike the current race relations in the US, I'm extremely humbled by the fact I wasn't born in the 20s in the south.
Keep in mind that lynching wasn't exclusively a Southern thing (though the South was far and away the worst) either but was a nationwide shame. There were quite a few lynchings of blacks in the Midwest and North, and of Chinese immigrants, Native Americans, and Mexican in the Southwest as well. Quite a few of them apparently started because people were mad about something else and just went after any handy scapegoat.

Damn, and I who love the northwest so much.
Here's a map of black victims (most of the creepy racist lynchings then and not the random mob "justice" events, though there are other racist events with non-blacks).
Mississippi in an unsurprising starring role.
Yeah…it happens.
Nobody respects the dead anymore. We are all screwed.
When i die i want my wake to be done in the scariest rollercoaster possible with me at the front so when people ride they will go "DAMN, THAT GUY DOESN'T GET SCARED!" and we will all laugh,
At least until my corpse gets propelled into the air by the last loop and it crashes into the "Its a small world" Knockoff and it mentally scars children.
Then it will be hilarious.

Oregon must've really been feeling themselves when they drew up their constitution.

I'm surprised Arizona is in the white for blacks anyway I'd fashion a guess they didn't take too kindly to other minority groups.
WUT
. . . . . there are worse ways to be remembered.
Shoulda been dressed up in a black lantern costume, amiright ladies and gentlemen??

…expect that this was his wish, so it is actually an example of respecting the dead?
It's not like they put him on a spring and had him catapult out of the casket...

This data is somewhat incomplete. New York City alone had more lynchings during the 1863 Draft Riots than the chart shows for the state in the entire period.

The only data I can find for New York is 11 lynchings during the riot.

I think those were merely the men who were confirmed to be killed by mobs, whether by photographic evidence or eyewitness accounts, and the actual number of victims was higher. Official numbers when it comes to lynching, especially before the 20th century, are odd; both because of disputes as to what qualifies as lynching and the tendency to be low-ball estimates outside of the Deep South, which not couldn't be bothered to lie about how monstrous it was but even celebrated it.
The Tulsa Riot of 1921 is a good example of this since the official count was thirty-nine deaths but there's quite a bit of evidence that it was considerably higher.

I wonder what the lynching numbers would be for the EU if they had had large ex-slave populations back in the day.
And why do I get a really bad feeling about Italy in particular.
Oklahoma is getting tired of it's high schoolers learning the deep dark truth about their homeland. And not enough of what they perceive to be patriotic

Opponents say the revised guidelines for the history course cast the United States in a harsh light by giving undue emphasis to topics such as slavery and the treatment of Native Americans, while distorting events such as the U.S. involvement in World War Two.
What by downplaying the belief that we were the ones that locked up the war for the Allied forces?

Wonder what the figures for Romani and Irish Traveler lynchings look like.
It seems like there is finally, after many years and thousands of innocent's lives taken, a sincere attempt to push Boko Haram out, by the collective effort of the West african states.

Thank goodness something actually happens. The fear of course, is that they will become more relentless now that they are pushed into a corner, at the expense of civilian lives of course.

They didn't really need ex-slaves in Europe, they killed jews instead. We all know what that track record looks like….

Oh yeah there was that lol.
That and whoever their hated nearly identical to themselves neighbor was, or other denomination of Christian that didn't do Jesus right.
Not looking for a fight, but I gotta say you guys seem to have fun writing about real and hypothetical genocides in Europe like your country doesn't have a dark past.
But don't worry, I'm sure it's not what you meant. Just saying. I'm not asking you to change your sense of humor just for me
After all, I prefer this over taboo.

Did you completely miss what lead into this or what the hell lol.
In México some accounts say we killed 90% of our population in the 1910's war (well, it started in 1910). We are really good at killing ourselves i guess

Must've been pretty high. Cause even to this day the hate for romani is palpable.
Even Muslim immigrants don't get nearly as high up on the collective shit list as those people do.
@Monkey:

No I didn't. You were talking about victims of segregation in America and jump to European being even better at slaughtering their kind. Implying that things aren't so bad since it was worse in Europe. It's clumsy I think. But again I've been around long enough to know that you weren't trying to minimize anything. It's just not my sense of humor. Just like I'm not the kind of guy that thinks right off the bat that his intelocutor is stupid and didn't follow the discussion.
Ok, so, Alabama is among the states where a Pro-Equality marriage ruling has happened recently and of course, like all of these Republican states, the people running the ship are throwing a fit and trying to appeal and block and stop it.
However, Alabama has gone a step further. I'm sure you all heard of them just refusing to listen to Federal law not too long ago? Well, now?
They're thinking of banning Marriage for everybody so the gays can't have it.
Yup.
Reminds me a bit of the Massive Resistance movement in Virginia in the 1950s, where the local Segregationists basically decided to shut down all the public schools in the state in order to avoid being forced to integrate.
No I didn't. You were talking about victims of segregation in America and jump to European being even better at slaughtering their kind.
After an interceding article about racism among British football fans in France floated our minds over the Atlantic completely at random!

This didn't happened lol.

Only in America.
Yeah get rid of marriage for heteros! That'll teach them gays
