Rebbeca played her role as helpless princess and fanservice supplier very well, you all were expecting way too much from her.
I think people wanted her to be like Vivi. Who didn't need a babysistter.

@Rotten:
Surprised that so many people haven't realized that Rebecca is only 1 level above useless. Sure she "knows" how to fight but she doesnt have the requisite instincts, she's way too soft. I definitely do not want to watch Rebecca go 1 vs 1 with anybody.
It depends on the results ou want. I would be very happy to see Rebecca insult Akainu or Magellan until one of them decided to fight her.
Come on dude, resize or spoiler tag that.
I swear I just noticed it's fucked up size and was about to fix it, this is crazy :wassat:

The way she dresses and all the horrible angles they have used in the anime has been bugging the crap out of me. Her design is absolutely ridicolous, but the animators make it even worse. Oh god.
Seriously tho, has there been a character as protected as Rebecca? Was Vivi? Shirahoshi? It boggles my mind. She can actually fight! She's a f****** Gladiator for crying out loud! This is one of, if not, the worst thing in this arc. If someone has to protect her, then make one of the other coliseum fighters do it. Don't waste Robin for such a stupid task. She should have just beaten Gladius herself if that's the case.

Ohh is this some sort of bait to Akainu fans. :ninja:
She would be magma fisted mid sentence.

Robin fans are really scary.
Well at the moment Robin is the only one close and healthy enough to protect rebbeca.
Vivi got rescued from the Banana-Crocodiles, Sanji kicked one of those and Diamante is right the kind of people who would do the same as Sanji.
Diamante represents as much or even a lot more danger than the Banana-Crocodiles to Becca, What would she do against one of those things?? Nothing, just wait to be saved, she needs protection and ain't nothing wrong for a weakling to look helpless against a monster.
It looks like most people recognize that this chapter was a necessity given the previous mentions of Mansherry and that it was done basically as expediently as possible. On the other hand, the conflict between Jora and the dwarves lacked build up. I, like many other people, disliked Jora for her actions but didn't particularly care who brought her down; likewise, Leo's move wasn't all that amazing. The sum is a very unmemorable chapter.
So far Mancherry's little sidestory could be completely removed from the arc with little to no impact on Dressrosa's plot. 60 chapters after her first mention we finally see her, and she's contributed almost nothing. The plot could have just as easily progressed without her since the dwarves still needed to rescue their enslaved brethren.
The situation could have been handled better if a Donquixote executive besides Sugar recovered and added a major setback to the alliance. Imagine if, say, Machvise surprise-slammed Sai right after he beat Lao G. I realize the timeline doesn't line up at all, but it's that sort of shock moment that would put the gladiators at a greater disadvantage. It would turn saving Mansherry from a necessary task to a priority and might make us care about her more.
I can only assume she'll be important later.

Yeah, to give some people their limbs back :ninja:
Robin protected rebecca because diamante is too strong for her, and rebbeca is a gladiator who wins without fighting :D
I think people were so happy to see Rebecca, a fighter, participating alongside the guys in the coliseum (I mean seriously, how many other women were there? I can think of one, and I don't even remember if she was in the manga or just anime…) that they envisioned such high expectations for her facing some of the upper big-bads in this arc and have simply been let down.
But that doesn't ever seem to have been her purpose - being a fighter, that is. In the coliseum it was emphasized by Gatz that she'd never gone on the offensive against an opponent. The tin soldier/Papa Kyros taught her very specifically how to defend herself, not to fight. And if their words aren't enough, you can just look at her. Fanservice granted, she simply doesn't have the build of someone who has actively been fighting in a coliseum setting by destroying her opponents. The girl doesn't have a lick of actual combat experience either. What she has is a knowledge of gladiators - who tend to be large, hulking men with the intention to hurt her either because of their fighting prowess or her relation to the Riku family - and how to make them mess up and fall in a heavily controlled environment with rules. This has made her very agile, especially given that she was able to avoid a complete KO from Hakuba, but still speaks nothing to her skills in attacking.
So yeah, unless people were thinking she'd make Diamante fall out of the ring and now the flower field... what exactly were they expecting? It's like we're back to the debate over whether or not Kyros would have taught a son more than just defense. For the purposes of her character, Rebecca is all she needs to be. I don't see her as weak by any stretch, but since seeing her in the coliseum, there's been no doubt that she'd get trounced in a real, One Piece style of battle. In this manga you're lucky if you can keep the floor under your feet or stay in one place through your fight, let alone finish without severe injury. Oh, and that was another thing... since Chopper is so absent and Law is getting manhanded, there had to be something that would assist with the degree of injuries happening at present. However forced, Mansherry was desperately needed since the crew mascot is MIA.
i just notice when re reading the chapter
sugar not wounded at all she just faint from mental trauma LOL.
then came the question, so the heal heal fruit can heal mental trauma as well ??? ( if true this is hax power indeed )
(I mean seriously, how many other women were there? I can think of one, and I don't even remember if she was in the manga or just anime…)
Acilia was in both the manga and anime.
am I the only one who thought manshelly was gonna be 150% different??
Ohh is this some sort of bait to Akainu fans. :ninja:
She would be magma fisted mid sentence.
and you say that like it would be a bad thing. Heck, maybe she could tell Magellan he stinks. Or tell Enel to stop mincing about playing Kami. I'm sure her costume would give her heaps of protection there.
Maybe Shirahoshi, Manshelly & her can just give up and start a 'Princessess who won't stop crying support group.
…sonwhere maybe just inside Aokiji's lava fist range...
This is the weakest chapter in a while, but I keep finding things to say about it. What if Doflamingo wanted to do something like that to actually revive Law after he'd give him immortality? Maybe Ceasar would've helped him with that? I think that was also brought up by someone here, but it would be very interesting for his character. I'm not a fan that people want him to be the typical villain when the door has been opened to truly the be the first villain to be more "human", as the flashback started that. How does the OP OP fruit turning someone immortal work? Does it mean taking some amount of damage? Is it instant kill?
I haven´t thought of dofla using this possibility but I have to say I somewhat like your theory and thoughts about it. It seems a bit out of character for a black &white bad guy but for a gray minded criminal it would be marvelous.
On a side note. After reading up to dressRosa since the time skip I somehow feel that it is due time that the crew shows their progress in their respective fields. I´m not speaking of combat nor fighting skills. I´m speaking about navigation, cooking, medicine and so forth. So far we´ve had an amazing display of marksmanship showcased by Ussop and some in and outs from Franky and his "shipwrighting" but the rest of them still feel a bit lacking in this department

I don't have a problem with any of that. The problem I have is that she's not doing anything. You don't want to fight? fine, but evade for heaven's sake! She is not trying to dodge anything. She is just standing there. It's like she doesn't realize she is a burden to Kyros. She is not trying to run away either. She is just there.
Señor Pink and Franky are really blossoming their bromance :D
and I think I found a chef who could cater for the party after all the fights.
It's like she doesn't realize she is a burden to Kyros.
A weakling like rebecca is expected to keep up, i mean defend her self from monsters way above her limits? What would that say about diamante who has already crushed her mentally and wrecked her will, to the point of fleeing, which is a good instinct in survival, albeit different from usopp's cowardist. chapter is exactly as it should be. Readers set themselves individual expectations. The only flaw i would criticize is bartolomeo and strawhat clean up crew, allowing enemies to be taken away when battle rages on. Mabe darth should scold em on thouroughness like jimbei scolding his new nakama. Enemy trying to kill you, you kick his ass then allow him to be taken, thats smells of imcompetence and taking eye off the ball. Team battles aint done till enemies are all down for the count. But its plot, little princess needed to be part of plot, without dragging too much.
lol that's even worse! She knows and she still doesn't do anything. She is not that weak. She made it to the finals for a reason. I don't know why you guys are saying she can't dodge anything.

She's realized it though, as BernieCrane pointed out, and she's not dodging because she wants to fight despite not having the correct skill set for this kind of battle. She does have the right skill set to dodge, and if she was thinking correctly, she'd be using it. Or, you could also argue that even with her skills Diamante would still be able to strike her. Either way, she unfortunately wants to fight because she just got her father back. Her father who she sees is still missing a leg just like when he was a toy. After forgetting him for so long, she's not going to have any intentions of leaving him on the fear that same thing that happened to her mother will happen to him, especially since he's got that handicap. Even when her trying to help (again, not in the right way) is only making things worse. You'd have to have someone carry he away by this point, I would say.
But through all of that, she is still in her role. She's the one that Kyros wants to protect, his daughter and his motivation. For Straw Hat purposes she's now the protected character that let Robin show off a cool new move. Is she in the way? Completely! But where else would she be of actual benefit (not to a battle, but to the storyline) if not fueling her father's motives and getting to see her mother avenged? Dodging through whatever mess is happening around the island without a purpose would seem kind of pointless….
am I the only one who thought manshelly was gonna be 150% different??
I expected her to be less gullible and more smarter than her people…
Well, the lesson here is to never have any expectation when it comes to princess. They are more than likely to be damsel in distress.:ninja:
This chapter had the most classic damsel-in-distress moment with Leo saving his princess!

It's not like she isn't trying to do something. She's actively trying to block it (although, you have a point as to why she's even trying to block when her entire fighting style is built around dodging and countering) and the two times we've seen Diamante have a go at her, Kyros blocked it the first time and Robin diverted the attack the second time. It still hasn't been completely proven that she's useless in front of Diamante.
Seriously Oda

Synchronized swimming and ballet are serious business. The fact that two real MEN are engaged in such seriousness is testament to that.
I'll wait to see what the limits of her fruit are but the princess being given ultra healing powers is making me roll my eyes after such a big fuss being made over the Ope Ope being able to cure/heal anything 10 chapters ago.
At this rate, I wonder how Franky and Senor Pink are going to end their match. They're not even fighting.lol
Real men end their fights with a hug.

Judges with score cards.
so the question you should be asking yourself is, who are these judges?
lol that's even worse! She knows and she still doesn't do anything. She is not that weak. She made it to the finals for a reason. I don't know why you guys are saying she can't dodge anything.
She got hit by Hakuba.
Barely, she was the only one there to do so.
She made it to the finals because of Hakuba+miraculous helmet+CoO, there was no sign of strength on her nowhere.
Rebecca should just take the kairoseki handcuffs Law left behind in the Flower Fields and attach them onto Diamante so he can't use his Devil Fruit to make the Flower Fields and his sword flutter.
That should be a good way to give Rebecca a purpose in this arc and more importantly a role in this important fight.
Diamante and Kyros fighting like real swordsman and gladiators would be fascinating. Plus Diamante without his Devil Fruit vs Kyros with only one leg would be a nice way to balance the fight.
She made it to the finals because of Hakuba+miraculous helmet+CoO, there was no sign of strength on her nowhere.
Meaning she is great at dodging. Do you understand what I'm saying now? Who else was able to dodge Hakuba? Robin stopped him, yes.
Yeah, to give some people their limbs back :ninja:
I'll be really disappointed if it's just that. Might as well just make her a walking retcon.

lol she would have perfect in Naruto

No one dodged him, everyone got hit.
No one dodge him, everyone got hit.
She dodged him in the sense that only her helmet was knocked off. She was fast enough to avoid a knockout hit.
Not sure if anyone noticed it, but something random i noticed this chapter was the fact that, Dellinger was in the room along with the rest when he was just defeated and seen on the third level last chapter, while Leo, has been on the way to that same location for SEVERAL chapters now
@Galaxy:
She dodged him in the sense that only her helmet was knocked off. She was fast enough to avoid a knockout hit.
She tried to dodge, but still got hit in the head pretty bad actually but miraculous helmet made of Kairouseki+diamond+PHdoors and a little bit of plot is what saved her. There is no sign on her of why she shouldn't get protected from such a monster like Diamante.
second panel
!
lol I missed that the first time!
I said it the first time we saw Mansherry, she reminded me of Usagi of Sailor Moon, that ending with her and Leo made the comparison (though very silly) even stronger IMO … now I can't stop seeing her as blond and wearing a white dress with blue accents. Wonder what her official colors would be

Exactly! Key word is TRIED! and where are you getting that her helmet is some kind of godsend? Not saying you're wrong, but everything I see about Rebecca's weapon/armor is that the quality is shitty. Can you find the picture?

You should lower your expectations about her, all this people whining about her are the same ones that believed she was gonna rape the whole block D by herself, with such high expectations it's obvious that we'll have a lot of whining round here, let's be a little bit more realistic about what can Becca do, and for now she's gonna watch how daddy does his job.
i just notice when re reading the chapter

It doesn't, as Sugar is still afraid of long things.
It does heal unconsciousness, though.
I somehow feel that mansherry's fruit should have been the fruit corazon and law were hunting for instead of ope ope no MI to cure law.

when I saw this page http://bato.to/read/_/189027/one-piece_ch717_by_powermanga/18
I had for some reason set it in my mind that she was going to be like toph from avatar, like exactly like her personality and same backstory of being strong but getting pampered because of her status. Funny thing is I had no idea who Toph even was at that point, I only watched avatar just recently but some how i had the same type of character set in my mind for manshely
guess I was sooooo wrong
One step forward, two step backwards for Robin.
This chapter was much like the last chapter, but not as good. It seems we are pretty much in plot wrap-up mode so we can have our multi-chapter throwdown with Luffy and Doflo. So a filler chapter mostly, still decent by One Piece standards, which is good regardless.
I somehow feel that mansherry's fruit should have been the fruit corazon and law were hunting for instead of ope ope no MI to cure law.
Yeah I guess you're right.
Maybe heal heal fruit wasn't identified/known back then, or there's some kind of limitation that will be explained later.
I somehow feel that mansherry's fruit should have been the fruit corazon and law were hunting for instead of ope ope no MI to cure law.
Why?
The Heal Heal fruit heals injuries, while Law is sick.
@The:
In the final fight, a Blackbeard darkness fist and a Sakazuki magma will both hit Luffy at the same time. He will be frozen in a molten metal. The fight will stop. All the allies will cry, and so will Mansherry. Luffy will then be revived, and the love the entire world has shown him will convince Blackbeard and Sakazuki that Luffy is right, and the world will be saved.
