I guess oda will let the new guys defeat the flamingo family, and it actually makes sense to let them fight and develop their characters more, cause if they will become followers of luffy, like all the crews that whitebeard was commanding, then spending time on fleshing them out is a good thing.^^
Chapter 771: Sai, Leader of the Happou Navy
-
-
I wonder if Sai will honour Chinjao's wish to have the Happo Navy fight for Luffy?
Probably.
-
Am I wrong in remembering Sai commenting on how his training wasn't enough and he was supposed to train more?
I mean it's only been hours since those fights but there was a struggle in him to achieve this. And we never get to see his full power anyway. It's not like all the characters in One Piece use their biggest move from the get-go.
-

Probably.
But of course, he wants to repay his debt as much as possible. Especially seeing how his emotions always get the best of him.

Haha, yeah you're spot on actually.

Deux Dreck, Search and Bauley. .______________.
-
Ch was kinda boring but I'm happy to see my favorite from Doffy's Crew besides Doffy get saved from pimp flamingo
-
Deux Dreck, Search and Bauley. .______________.
Yes, this !
Certainly because 12 is the opposite of the flauve. -
I don't get Panda's translation at all.
-
Characters are getting some development which is always great and good to see why Baby 5 was with Dofla since she was a child even though Lao G calling her 'Convenient' was kinda…
-
This is by far the best post in the thread. I actually think it's good enough to warrant closing the whole thread as this pretty much covers everything important about this chapter.
"Y-Your compliment doesnt make me happy at all, you bastard."

Those words were for Boo.
If this is what you meant.
Nevermind, you probably meant this.
Looks like he gave himself too little credit.:ninja: -
Wouldn't say it's on another level, really. And obvious issues don't just vanish when you read the arc in one sitting.
Btw, how do you know he's hoping OP will turn more into Bleach and FT?
Sorry this is a long post.
With all due respect to Bleach and Fairy Tail fans, when we take a look at their story so far too many things are not connected and each arc development is mainly conceived to bring awe and excitement for that arc(PROVE ME WRONG). This spell true for many other popular manga cough naruto cough cough but one piece have done it quite magically. Popular mangas have the tendency to focus on wowing the fan with cooler and more exciting chapters that keeps their popularity ranking. If you read Bakuman manga they will explain very clearly how the popular manga are ranked and rated in Japan. It is actually very true for up coming manga artist.
I started One Piece in late 1998, thru a comic shop owner recommendation. Back then Naruto and Bleach were becoming very popular, and I admit that I was a big fan of Naruto in the beginning. I was a SUPER big fan of Slam Dunk and was following Rurouni Kenshin and Hoshin Engi very closely.
One Piece is special because the author dared to be different and dreamed big.
I can tell it was not popular among my friends as they think the art sucks. I saw it was a fresh take in the manga I usually read, honestly I thought it will be like a comedy manga all the way.
But the more I read the better it gets. After awhile when more friends are reading it, we all concluded the same thing; the author is really good at his ability to string his chapters into a magnificent story.I used to wait 3 months for my manga, for a new book. And I will reread and reread until I can memorize the story.
What I think Alec Eiffel Senpai is hoping for is to be awed week after week, to feel good immediately after reading . The comment that this chapter is no good says it all, because a person who truly understood the beauty of One Piece will never say that.Oda is not God. He made many mistakes. Many. There are many other ongoing masterpiece mangas out there like Kingdom, Berserk, Musashi, Attack on Titan.
But what One Piece have accomplished is what no other manga can. Creating a plot/aim that started from chapter one and creativity painting it so beautifully that it cheers people up. It continue to amazed me how the chapters connects and deepens the story. It was like it is based on a novel or something. Sick shit.
To me every One Piece chapter is good. Because it makes me anticipate more for the next week. And the next, and the next.Peace to all. Sorry if I sounded offending in anyway.

Another executive down!
Looks like things are progressing at the rate of one executive taken out per chapter. Not 'slow' at all, you dumb dumbs!
As some others have said, this was a nice instance of focusing on one area for a bit instead of skipping around too much.
As a result, something got accomplished!!Next to go down will probably be Dellinger or something?
He's the last executive who's fighting lesser characters right? And I'm really glad that Oda gave us a reason for why Baby 5 is so fixated on being 'needed' by someone.
That was actually quite sad, being told by her own mother that she was a burden and unneeded. -
Mangastream version
-
-
Chinjao supports incest, apparently.
-
@Rafa:
Mangastream version
Is MP better this week, or was Sai supposed to marry his aunt or mother?
!
Lol, all in a minute.
-
Holy shit, this one shall be remembered. One for the ages.
Mangastream: now, with extra incest!
-
Why do people keep talking about how Sanji can't get any girl or woman? Was there ever anytime it was shown that Sanji was looking for a girl or love or something? Isn't Sanji suppose to be a chivalry gentleman who likes to treat the ladies right rather than looking for girls to get laid? I think most of you are missing the point of Sani pervertness after Timeskip and his gentleman style.
-
What a fantastic chapter, but pity about the translation. All four of the fighters were hilarious and Sai just raised the bar big time for Sanji.
I was a bit annoyed at the prospect of another flashback, but that was pretty gracefully done. I would have enjoyed maybe a little more commentary from Sai on Baby 5's psychology, maybe with a "She needs me!" big kick in there somewhere. Would've appreciated a bigger "Call me the Don" panel too.
That's exactly what I thought was missing too.
Maybe Oda is saving that exact line for later. Maybe even for Sanji
After all I think there will be a bigger part for Baby 5 in another arc. The flashback was short and sweet, perfectly executed. That glimpse is all we need for now but I hope we get an expansion in the future…
-
Mangastream also left in the 5 Billion Belly mistranslation.
Both incredibly awful this week.

Out on Mangastream!
How the minor executives are handled leaves me torn. On one hand I really like how so many of the colloseum fighters and executives are fleshed out, they're not just created to be defeated and nothing else, all of them get a little backstory. After these couple of chapters I care about Bellamy, Baby 5 and Hajurdin, they're nicely being fleshed out with only a couple of pages, very good job on that front. On the other hand, they're being taken out really quickly and that feels like a waste. BUT. At the same time, I don't want it to go on forever because despite some of them being very loveable, they're still pretty minor. Oh the struggle.
Baby 5 stuck out to me the most this chapter because only a couple of panels made her as complex as a character can be with such little screentime. She's really tragic. They're just using her trauma for her to be "convinient" to them. I've always liked her DF, so it's nice to have actual depth besides that.
Aside from that the colorspread looks cool and Lao G is fun.
Overall, a good, fun chapter.
-
-
So baby 5 becomes an ally to straw hats and betrayed young master .
-
And I guess calling her a "crazy Bitch!" is also incredibly sensitive.
Mangastream: You came for the slang, stayed for the incest!
Ed: Ok, just NOW I realized that Lao left a G carved in Chinjao's body.
-
Still you can't compare Mangastream and Mangapanda when it comes to the quality of the scans.
Reading Baby 5's flashback, I was wondering whether her mother was shadowed by Oda or by their shitty scans. -
At least mangastream's scans are considerably better.
-
Is there any group that gives consistently good translations anymore after C3 stopped translating?
-
@Monkey:

Powermanga, which uses the translations of CNET and ishuhui scans.
-
That was a nice spotlight for Sai and Baby 5. Always knew Sai was pretty badass

Cnet128's translation and Powermanga's scanlation are the best available scans online for One Piece .

I've been thinking about why these quirky guys work much better than say the NFP because technically they don't have that much more screentime. Like, I think Bellamy and Baby 5 have more development than any of Hodi's underlings. Or maybe it is just that they were so superficial? They really did feel like they were just there to be defeated.
-
Lao G was against Dons.
You have very very low chances for winning with somebody who has "Don" even as part of Name
Unless you're Don Krieg.
-

The flashback did wonders to them, even if it was only on an equally superficial manner, but it gave them bonding time together, a chance to see all of them looking mighty badass, etc. . .It even added a layer of mystery and mysticism to them, like: what did Dellinger do to warrant being on the family as a toddler? What's up with Vice's tail he's been concealing all this time? Was Trebol the head honcho before Doffy? That kinda stuff.
The other thing is that they've gotten to, at least, defeat other characters before going down. Vice defeated Boo and thrashed Hajrudin before the last one gave his Shonen Powerup moment; when Dellinger goes down (next week?) in his Curriculum he'll at least have Bellamy, Dagama, Suleiman and Blue Gilly being easily felled by him. The dwarves were clearly used by Oda as a means to portray that, at least, these guys are quite above entire squads of dwarves that can, individually, destroy buildings with their fists, plant people on the ground with their tails, or move faster than the eye can see; e.g, Lao G, Gladius and Sugar. And have better designs. And better quirks. And work better as a team. . .
The only time it seemed like Oda wanted us to take Hodi's gang seriously is when Luffy himself said that Hyozou was strong cause he blocked a Jet Pistol, and I think he scraped that idea all together. They were never shown to stand a chance, and yet here we have Pink at least going at it with Franky for a while, and suplexing him multiple times. The feeling of overall competence is at least a notch above that of the NFP.

Sorry this is a long post.
….
I really appreciate this post because as die-hard fan of one piece this resonates with me. I think Oda is a true genius. He's able to create this over-arcing supreme plot with main plots driving the story forward. Even within these main plot there tends to be multiple sub plots that help enrich the story. Oda's ability to create unique character designs and flush out their with unique personality within a couple of panels makes One Piece standout as a masterpiece. I would never label a single one piece chapter as bad maybe a bit slow like the recent recap chapter right after a break but not bad. This is because after years of time investment in both the anime and the manga, every single new chapter I feel is always new and refreshing, exciting and always an adventure.
-
@MDL:
Unless you're Don Krieg.
His problem was his time was 'before it was cool' lol:ninja:
It was when the fishman Tom of Water 7 was introduced we got the 'do it with a don!' and so Dons became cool.:ninja:–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Doesn't count as he was defeated by an other Don
!
Dang it Rami! Now you made me want to see a parody comic of the Dons meeting and Don Luffione beating up Don Kreig :D
-
Gotta love how the colorpage provides interaction and dynamics between the characters without saying much yet Law seems to be the only one left out with no interaction or dynamic and is just sitting there with his typical stone face.
-
This weeks chapter was so good. It will be nice when we get a more proper translation, mangapanda was such a mess.
-
Zoro is struggling a little, good… good...
I feel sorry for Sanji, he have a bad luck in romance.
I'm happy for Sai and Baby 5@Doffy.:

Yeah that was nice, especially when Ace gives an apple to Sabo.
I just noticed that Law's right arm doesn't appear in the color spread, it's confirmed that he will lose it permanently :ninja: -
Tbh I'm sad that Akainu wasn't in the top 10. The color spread would have been amazingly awkward if he was there with Ace, Sabo and Luffy :)
-
Really? Pulling a move on par with Chinjao in his prime that he never used before even though he was in fights numerous times does not strike you as odd?
Why didn't he bloody used it before?
Taking down an officer isn't far fetched. Taking down an officer in the manner he did it is.
To be fair, I don´t think he was pulling a new move. He was using his legwork with the Hasouken (spelling?). After Chinjao noticed that sais footwork surpassed him, he decides that is time for the succesor to step up. Bassically Sai renamed his military footwork attack with the name "kiryu kirikugi" at most it was a baptism, not a hidden ultra found technique brought out from a hat.
-
Okay so this chapter pretty much confirmed for me that the only reason I didn't like last chapter was because I don't care about Machvice or the giant. This chapter was great fun to read. The four way conversation was hilarious to read and Lao G really stole the show when it came to comedy. I always ad a feeling that Baby 5's urge to be needed was down to some tragic trauma, and I loved it. Short and sweet.
I wonder if we're going to see if Buffalo had a reason for joining the Doflamingo pirates as a kid
Once again who the fuck is Farfra?

Slangstream translation is awful as mangapanda .
-
How is her situation resolved? Does she have a realisation that she indeed posseses her own value, and not only as tool for others? Nope. She needs the decision to be made for her.
I think that will need to happen gradually considering how long she has been in her current mental state.

Their translation actually seemed kind of bad this time :/
It is suggesting that Sai was supposed to marry his aunt. Maybe Aohige or someone else with better knowledge than me can point out why the translation is bad overall :P -
@Doffy.:
Slangstream translation is awful as mangapanda .
It's even worse this time.
Also, what do you think the wink was for?
Their translation actually seemed kind of bad this time :/

Translation is bad because it's done in a rush by people who were introduced to OP two days ago and aren't too bright to begin with. Don't see any other explanation.
