Chapter 764: "White Monster"
-
-
So Doflamingo basically run from Tsuru?
AWESOME.
kind of explains their initial appearance in the manga, the familiarity of it all.
-
So Tsuru was still chasing marines 15 years ago. She took the sideline more recently than I thought.
-
I saw some people mentioning Crane along with marines, but I wasn't sure what it was about. Is that what it says on the sail of the marine ship?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
If they don't mix with "lower races" it's probably inevitable. Nineteen families, 700 years...
ew might as well be called Incestial Dragons hhahah took me awhile to come up with that one.
-
I would love to see if any of their encounters ended up with Doffy's fluffy coat getting washed and hung to dry.
-
Someone told me it's absent in both translations.
It was mentioned by Doflamingo, that Otsuru (Tsuru. O is old honorific) from the Marine HQ showed up, as he gets ready to sail.
Then the marine ship is shown with huge ass Tsuru written on the sail.So I guess they missed both an actual line and a clear clue.
No, it's not my guess, he actually says it. Like an actual line.
船を出すぞ!!また「本部」のおつるだ!
"We're getting ready to sail! It's Otsuru from the HQ again!"An entire speech bubble was overlooked by both groups, it seems.
Haha, alright, thank you.
Can't trust any group but your summary.
And what? Her name was on the sail, too?

It's that time yet again… (this will also go in the thread for it) One Piece Abridged: Mangapanda Edition – Chapter 764

Ricardo DankyHootie.
This is gold! XD

this chaper yet again makes me want a dofla family spin off. i want to know more about vergo and rosi and how dofla survive as a kid without parents or how he started his underground business, etc.
the mentioning of tsuru also makes me want a garp/marine spin off.
there's just so many potential stuff from one piece to be explored!
–-
btw, do you guys think that dofla already did what he swore to do? going back to that northern land and kill everyone.
-
I think that Doflamingo didnt gotten to know about his brother being a traitor yet but he gotten to know about Law being the one that stabbed Corazon.
So he will order brother and Law without telling them why exactly why and Law is going to get tortured(its not like Doflamingo would let him die because of lead amber sundrom without "justice").
Or if Mingo knows about Rosi then they will meet up at some random island and Doflamingo will start his Birdcage.. most likely.
One way or another flashback is really good read and in volume format it will be a blast to read. As long as Dressrosa is developing as strongly it will end and get into next arc.
Seeing Sanji on color cover made me feel sad somehow.. like I seen somebody who I can only remember and not meet ever again lol
It is too long for Sanji fan to wait until we see him.. Hope that Oda will rock my shoes off with Sanjis comeback chapters.. -
Yay ! Otsuru vs Diamante !
-
I hope we won't have to wait too long until we see just what Doflamingo think about Ds. Ultimate trolling now would be to show us Sanji. For a while it felt like he had been turned into a toy.
-
Yay ! Otsuru vs Diamante !
Wow, I never thought about it, but they do have similar powers don't they.
I think Old lady Otsuru would beat the snot out of that young man though.
-
I'm starting to think that Tsuru "washing-pirates-from-evil" power turned half of DD pirates into what they are now, somehow.

Hahaha it would certainly be the most Odaish explanation to Senor Pink new style.
-
Hahaha it would certainly be the most Odaish explanation to Senor Pink new style.
….that's actually bloody brilliant. Senor Pink is probably pining after her, since she was the woman who stole his...heart??
-
Hahaha it would certainly be the most Odaish explanation to Senor Pink new style.
As much as I wish he was Sanji father, and turning into giant toddler during life crisis was a family thing, that is probably how it happened.
He became pure as a baby. -
But it's not solely because of the environment. Seeing as two people who grew up in the same environment did not have the same reaction. I believe this is what Oda is referring to. In the same situation, with the same upbringing, Doffy chose a different path compared to his brother.
And you guys are the reason why I prefer the discussions here over reddit and mangastream since their nature vs nurture discussion became a virtual shit storm. Everyone is much more calm!! (Until it happens here, yaaaay) Anyway, I agree with your thought. Doflamingo seems to adopt the Tenryuubito mindset more easily, which everyone knows their course of action if even slighted lightly is harsh punishment. So being tortured = kill all people involved from the anger he's using to lash out with. Cora is definitely the more kind hearted of the two thanks to his parents, so Oda will probably clash their ideals and their upbringing over the next several chapters.
this flashback arc is so fun and psychoanalytical it makes squee. Next week should be here already!!!!
-
Did you guys not see the intro box calling Corazon a "Commander", along with his registry picture?
Yeah we have seen it and what? But he could have entered the damn marines for his own agenda as well same as he is currently an Elite Officer of DoFla.
Explain to me, why someone who talks about the World Nobles in such manner and does stuff for the "sake of D", was a 100 % marine, dog of the World Nobles? He may have used the marines as well
-
-
I am really surprised that Cora didn't have the Ope-Ope fruit. A lot of people predicted it to go in that direction, so I doubt that the ending to this flashback will be as simple as people think. Heck, we could even get the Revolutionaries involved in this.
As soon as I read that Law inherited the will of D., I quickly jumped to the conclusion that the Revolutionaries are gonna appear, and that Law knows who Sabo is (of course in the future not in the flashback). I actually thought of this the second after reading chapter 763. Now, it is a stretch, but I still don't know if the Revolutionaries are actually going to decide the ending of this arc in some way.
Who knows, maybe Law got in contact with them. Maybe even Sabo contacted Law to save Luffy after Akainu's big blow. Don't bash me, I know the other theory about Law saving Luffy because they both inherit the will of D. It would be a bit dumb though for Sabo to leave the arc and never appear for another five years hehehe.
-
Now that the veil of "boring smug mysterious personality" has been lifted from Law, a big plus for him, I'd like to know what went through his head when he first met "the other D", our beloved captain, at the slave auction house. And what was going through is mind when he rescued him at Marineford.
Oh, and I can't WAIT to see what Oda has in store for Kid, the other captain obviously foreshadowed to be Luffy's peer along with Law. Surely he'll get comparative character development and reveal!
-
Kuzan is sure to appear in Doffy's flashback sooner or later, he seems to know him personanly, maybe he was his Garp? or met as kids?

…Eustass D. Kidd...By God!

I'm blanking on how they seem to know each other personally?
-
…Eustass D. Kidd...By God!
Law is a D
Kid has COC
Luffy is a D and has COC.
I'll go with that instead of them all being D's ;) -

Or met anytime after he became a Shichibukai. Like in those meetings or when they were expecting Whitebeard's attack.
ew might as well be called Incestial Dragons hhahah took me awhile to come up with that one.
Lmao
-
D and Coc. What are you insinuating? :ninja:
-
Law is a D
Kid has COC
Luffy is a D and has COC.
I'll go with that instead of them all being D's ;)Lol, made me chuckle.
So Law doesn't have COC?
-

Law is a D

Luffy is a D and has COC.
I'll go with that instead of them all being D's ;)Lol a pretty solid prediction, yeah.
Kidd certainly seems like the type to have CoC, and to very much enjoy using it.
Crucifixion and putting people down without lifting a finger, foaming at the mouth are Kidd's two main hobbies.

Can't stop laughing.
-
I can barely handle 3 of the strongest pirates of the worst generation being D's. Having Kidd as another D will be a Sorry but you ain't going anywhere if you don't have the D for the rest of the rookies.
-
-
I miss Sanji how many more chapters must we wait?
I lost all hope. Untill doflamingo is defeated and luffy and co sail to the next island, I don't think we will see anything from them.
-
There's truth in that, yes. However, I can't help but feel that said hardships and rejections could have been staged in a less forced manner. On a second reading, what really bothers me is how all those doctors and nurses immediately reject Law. I wouldn't mind it coming from superstitious and/or uninformed people who cannot know better, or those who directly suffered in the Frevance war. But doctors? Come on! When even some of 'mingo's goons know that the disease isn't contagious, wouldn't some doctors be informed too? Wouldn't they at least try to heal the kid? They can fail and it would still feel as dramatic. In the end, te way Oda shows it feels just as forced a trait as the "all CDs are pompous a**holes" trope (well, almost all of them now that we know 'mingo's parents)
If this were a contrast to prepare the introduction of some open-minded doctor like Kureha or Hirurk, hell, why not. But in all likeliness we're in for "OP haxx DF saves the day"… This is why I prefer by far chapters like the previous two, in which there are nuances of grey that make the story a lot more believable.are you Darth2.0? or Darth in disguise?:ninja:
or Darth's less intense brother? lolOn a serious note. Wasn't it pretty obvious that these were the Doctors that were in the countries/islands that allied against Flevance? They wanted Law and the Amber Lead disease dead/exterminated. And don't forget NOT everyone knew it was not CONTAGIOUS. If it was public knowledge then Flevance would not have been Quarantined or those in Flevance would not have been wiped out. (Well maybe only the Quarantine part -as to keep Amber Lead poisoning in Flevance.)
So these doctors and nurses are/were acting accordingly to 'what they knew' (that's if we are to believe that they didn't know the whole truth)
plus Rossi being optimistic was a good thing. Taking Law with him maybe not so- but you have to remember Law was kidnapped. Law could possibly have wanted to run away. This shows as Rossi was always carrying him the way he was. But as time went on, their bond grew and in turn all they had was each other bla bla bla. This was Law's good role model, the person who changed things for him. So seeing and watching how far Rossi would actually go for him is something that wouldn't work if Law was left outside -or left with Dof while Ros looks on his own.
Plus the 'Hax DF Cure'… Well it is the Ope Ope no mi. So using it to establish Law's surgical prowess at such a young age wouldn't be that bad. But if Eating the Ope no mi automatically cures him then I could see the problem most of you will have with the fruit.
-
D = "Gods Natural Enemy"; Haha reminded me of the fight between "God" Enel and his "natural" Enemy Luffy or better Rubber :-)
Seeing it that way, it kind of is true^^ -
Oh, and I can't WAIT to see what Oda has in store for Kid, the other captain obviously foreshadowed to be Luffy's peer along with Law. Surely he'll get comparative character development and reveal!
(Were you being saracstic here ?) Alas! Judging by the current pace and provided that we do see him in the Kaido arc, chances are we'll get there as soon as…Late 2016?
are you Darth2.0? or Darth in disguise?
I swear I ain't! Although the thought that I was sounding like him did cross my mind yesterday. I guess some of his pessimism must have rubbed off from reading all those posts.
As to the doctors, they may indeed belong to former enemy countries of Frevance and it may explain their reaction in part, yet I'm still under the impression that they're a profession where open-mindedness and being able to see beyond the obvious can reasonably be expected. Katzztar pointed out that the mindset of OP doctors is more backwards than their advanced medical knowledge and I can live with that explanation.
In the end, what it boils down to is that this is another of Oda's simplifications (of which I'm usually not a fan): it's not rare that many background characters / general population are depicted as either complete a**holes or the absolute opposite, leaving no place whatsoever for nuances. This is maybe because he wants to provide his readership with crystal clear context information and I can respect that. However, it still feels forced occasionally. -
BTW we have to restart the Character Tournament. Cora would be a nice opponent for Bartolomeo and damn Baby Dellinger is so awesome
-
are you Darth2.0? or Darth in disguise?:ninja:
or Darth's less intense brother? lolHis apprentice maybe.
-
I'm blanking on how they seem to know each other personally?
Well, there is the thing about calling a person by their first name in Japanese. For some reason I get the feeling that there is a history between the two..
!
!
No wonder Suger only joined after Cora's death he'd have gave a nice beating XD her ability is still too valuable though.
-

I could handle Kidd being a D, but only because so much more focus has been put on him and Law when it comes to the supernovas.
It would be kind of cool having the 4 most prominent members of The Worst Generation be from the clan of D.
They'd certainly be blowing up a storm.
-
Urouge has the D. as well as CoC

Hmm, there might be connection there, but he could simply be using his real name now since he isn't technically Aokiji anymore.
Although Burgess did still refer to him as such during his call with Blackbeard in the Colosseum.
-
It's possible. But still, if he was Dofla's oldest friend, why sacrifice him for immortality? Sure, maybe he couldn't trust anyone else, but there was bound to be a better or a less valuable candidate. For starters, we don't know how long Vergo was supposed to be in the marines.
Maybe it was meant for Delinger? someone whom they raised since he was a baby.. all of Dofla's officers seem to be happy to give their lives for him in a breath.
-
You think everybody is born the same and that only the environment shapes them?
Doula was eerily different from his family. Remember that Homing and Rosinante both belonged to the same environment as Doula, but still turned into decent people.
That's what confuses me, too. How did they end up being "decent people" in an environment like that? Homing said he'd have to start re-teaching his children, though, so maybe Rocinante at first was like that, too, except less extreme?
I dunno, it's kinda the same thing as Hodi? He ended up like that because of what he heard and absorbed from his environment as a kid. So right now I'm leaning towards just a more violent reaction due to having been more absorbed into being a Tenryuubito. Guess we'll see. -

Then again, we saw on Punk Hazard how quick Dofla was in deciding to sacrifice two of his lieutenants (including Vergo) only to keep his hands on Caesar. There's also Rocinante telling us in this very chapter that he is more or less a monstrous sociopath at heart. In light of this, I'd say the extent of his "friendship" can be subject to great variation. In fact, such as he has been depicted until now I'd be surprised if there was anyone on the planet he wouldn't be willing to sacrifice in order to achieve immortality.
Anyway, let's not forget that Vergo may already have a DF, which would naturally make him off limits

It's not like I have forgotten, but Vergo's position was strategically too important for Dofla to just use him as a sacrifice.
PH situation was more like an only way out, because Dofla was looking at a real possibility of losing both of his important alliances.

D = "Gods Natural Enemy"
To me the Ds are enemies of the Celestial Dragons meaning that maybe they were from a country that opposed to the creation of the World Government back then, probably because they were a free people, and the CD decided to get rid of them and their ideas of freedom, so they tried to eliminate all the people from that country, and only a few managed to escape. But the Ds still convey that idea of freedom (maybe something in their genes) and revolution against the WG so they are considered a threat. -

But then again, he was so quick to forgive both Diamantee and Trebol for MASSIVE BLUNDERS (losing the mera mera no mi, allowing sugar to get knocked out) because they are his "Family" and the "Family" is all he really has left in his life.
I think he genuinely cares for his closest subordinates.

Ironically, after several hundred years, they became the same or even worse than previous rulers of the world.
