But you're stating that Luffy didn't NEED the gears to beat Blueno. That's where I'm questioning you. Why would Luffy use them if he obviously didn't need them? I'm sure it's because Oda wanted to show us the gears but then why didn't he just do it when Luffy faced off against Lucci?
I do think he needed to gears to do what he wanted to do, which is to get to robin as soon as possible. I don't however think he needed the gears to eventually defeat Luffy.
Blueno wasn't even using his full power against Luffy as others have said but make no mistake. Luffy definately needed the gears to win.
**Blueno, not at full power? Yes he was. the only thing you have supporting your statment is blueno using takkai gou at the end. Does that mean he was holding back? No. Quite the opposite.
So how was he not at full power?**
If he was pwning Blueno without the gears then I ask you again. Why would he need to use them? I'm pretty sure Luffy could have finished the fight quickly without using the gears if he was truly "pwning" Blueno.
Ever even think of the slight possibly that luffy had another reason? Maybe, Just maybe, he wanted to test gear out before taking down the cat. Or perhaps he wanted to finish the fight quicker than he could at gear 1?
After all look back when Luffy knocked out Bellamy. He didn't even need to use any Gomu Gomu attacks. Which shows that Luffy doesn't just bring out new techniques when he feels like it. Only when he needs to use them.
**???
There was nobigger power behind Bellamy. He was a weakling compared to luffy and luffy knew this. He wasn't even trying in the least.
With blueno he had to get to the gate. He also needed to know is he was ready.**
Actually it looked more like Luffy was having difficulty defeating Blueno even with the few hits he got on him before using the gears and this was before Blueno even got serious.
Blueno was ALWAYS serious. Not once during the fight wwas he going at anything less than 110 %.
And aside from Doa Doa, Blueno didn't manage a single hit on luffy. Not
ONE. Luffy however, broke his tekkai at the first hit. And completley owned him.If Blueno had been completely focused and serious he would have decimated Luffy if Luffy hadn't pulled out Jet Bazooka.
**Where do you get the idea that blueno wasn't serious? Tekkai gou? So? Why would he do tekkai gou every time? He isn't a retard.
Also Lucch isn't owning luffy. He is winning by a small margin, but not owning. they both have either blood or bruises on them. And luffy is rubber so blood is pretty much the only was to show it at this stage.**
Why Oda???
-
-
Oh the irony.
What part of my post was bitching or moaning? I know it makes you super cool to bust out the sarcasm, but at least read a post properly before making yourself look silly.
-
Well, i guess so but they are merely bruises. Luffy on the other hand is clearly bleeding.
Yeah, you need to read the chapters again mate. In the 414 panel Luffy is not bleeding. Lucci COULD be bleeding. You need a HQ to see that and it's pretty obvious. Carry on.
-
im just gonna pop in to add something to the Actual Discussion this thread was meant for (Sanji's New Move)
I think it was Genius of Oda to have Sanji do that.
A) Sanji deserved a new move
B) it's a whole Chapter about Sanji
C) in Chapter 414 Sanji Tells Nami they are running out of Time because the Gate of Justice is opening, Sanji Might not have NEEDED to use the move to beat Jyabura, he just used it because THEY ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME TO SAVE ROBIN!!!thank you, go back to your conversation on Gear 2

He wasn't serious at all. He pretty much figured it'd be an easy fight since Luffy had been beaten before by CP9 back in Water 7. He wasn't serious at all until Luffy got some hits in since he completely underestimated Luffy at that point. Otherwise Blueno might have decimated Luffy if he had actually put some effort in but by the time he had it was already too late.

If you honestly thionk this then you are not woth debating. Blueno wasn't serious for arounf 5 seconds at the start. the rest was blueno at his max.

No, but he spat out blood when he was hit.
here and here.
He might not be bleeding from the face, but i'm sure he's scratched. -
Look, I think it pretty obvious that Luffy gear 1 outclassed Blueno the way Lucchi is outclassing Luffy now, only the Lucchi > Luffy one is more pronounced because Lucchi isn't being totally serious and Luffy is being distracted. Both are very discreet, but one of them is slightly stronger. Luffy went gear 2 and would go to gear 3 for the very reason that he wanted to a) end it fast b) test out his new moves.
I think Demon Rin made alot of sense but everyone chose to ignore her. Everybody is in a hurry to save Robin. The Buster Call fleet coming just makes them hurry more. Which pirate would want to dwell in the government stronghold anyway?

Oh yes. You're totally not serious if someone socks through your defence. You're only serious when he starts emitting steam from his body menacingly. Look, there's no chance he'd decimate Luffy. Even if he got a heavy hit in, Luffy would just stand up again and finish him off, we should all know by now how Luffy is. Besides, Luffy didn't have a single scratch on him after the fight ended. He was just tired. Like after you sprint 100 meters tired.
I think the only reason Luffy's getting that badly whacked is because he's been constantly trying to get through the door to Robin. If he wasn't distracted, he might be able to fight with Lucchi on the same level as Blueno did with him before Gear 2 and after the Rifle shot to the stomach.
-
Question to those supporting the theory that Blueno would have "decimated" Luffy if Luffy had not used Gear 2. Yes, blueno did underestimate Luffy, but after he got "smashed" w/ GGnRifle, and after Luffy was following his Soru movements, he sharpened up and even stated he had been underestimating Luffy. Then Blueno clearly stated that he must be cautious because blows (attacks) are useless against a rubber man. How was Blueno going to defeat Luffy? was he going to use his revolving door and make him dizzy till he passed out!? :wassat:
Luffy had the upperhand throughout the entire fight, he even managed to dodge while Blueno had him in the revolving head door. And Luffy was definitely testing out his Gears, as he commented that his body isn't ready yet after he pummeled Blueno into the ground.
And on topic… Sanji's new move rocks
Reminds me of FeiLong from SF and his Raising Dragon Kick... hahahaha!
I've been waiting for Sanji to get a power up for ever, and i'm certainly not disappointed. Whether or not he could have won w/o the power up, i'm not sure. Doesn't matter to me, i totally enjoyed the Sanji vs. Jabura fight :) -
I'm not saying Blueno would have decimated Luffy, I'm saying they both would be evenly matched :p
As for how blueno could have defeated Luffy: there's always something like Rankyaku ;) -
Too bad Luffy dodged all the Rankyaku, even when he had a door on his face. He even altered the path of one with his foot. Blueno was beaten from the start.

Thanks Just what I would say. And regarding Rankyaku…
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume37.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7016
Luffy being hit by 2 rankyaku's by Kaku and Calipha…
Yet, the rankayku's did not even cut his shirt, let alone his flesh. I just don't see anyway for Blueno to have stood a chance against Luffy given what we know of Blueno and Rokushiki.
-

Yeah, They all ignored me :pouty:
and You just Made good to go deeper into my point, Thank you XD -
Geez, so much for keeping an "open mind".
"Beaten from the start"?? Luffy didnt even lay a finger on Blueno! (neither did Blueno.) With Luffy at normal state, they were both equally matched. Otherwise, Luffy wouldn't have pulled out his Gear 2. If you persist on believing that Luffy was owning Blueno from the start… atleast take the words from the ACTUAL guy into consideration. :ninja: -
I remember Blueno being hit twice near the beginning of the fight. And Luffy could keep up with Soru, according to Blueno, without Gear Second. How is that equal?
-
@SanG:
Ok it was his won leg-strenght but Sanji has to pull out something new to break it but Luffy and Chopper like Isaid before have done it with their old stuff and Zoro will be probably too
Zoro defeated a man made out of steel, I don't see where Tekkai could be a problem to him anyway.
Rankyaku will, but not Tekkai.
-

Otherwise, Luffy wouldn't have pulled out his Gear 2. If you persist on believing that Luffy was owning Blueno from the start… atleast take the words from the ACTUAL guy into consideration. :ninja:I can't speak for others, but i have a very "open mind", and i'm not saying Luffy was owning Blueno from the start. I'm saying, given what we have seen of Blueno's technique and skill and what we have seen of Luffy's technique and skill, there was no way for Blueno to win the fight against Luffy. On every attack Blueno attempted, it was either useless against Luffy, or delayed him, and every attack Luffy did on Blueno was injuring him. The rest is deduction (speculation) based on if the situation continued the way we saw it going and Luffy did not go Gear Second.
In regards to Luffy's words, if you can deny that he is in a hurry to save Robin, then kudos to you on that, but my interpretation is that Luffy underestimated Blueno and figured he could defeat him quickly w/o going Gear 2. Then after realizing the battle would take too long to finish in his current state, he decided he'd test out his Gears on Blueno.

About the Luffy vs Blueno fight:
You guys all need to read chapter 387 again. Luffy had the upper hand in the beginning of the fight when Blueno underestimated him, but then Blueno got serious by pulling out every move he knew (ooooh aaaah) yet he wasn't even able to scratch Luffy. I would say they were quite evenly matched, but Luffy was easily keeping up with all of Blueno's (presumably) best moves. For that reason I think Luffy could probably beat Blueno without going to Gear 2; it wouldn't have been a walk in the park, but once Luffy gets a little angry, it would have been much easier than the Crocodile round 2 battle.
Why he chose to use Gear 2? Like Demon Rin said, it was probably a combination of wanting to finished off the fight quickly and wanting to try out his new move.
About Sanji's new move:
I thought the flaming kick was a bit of a forceful intro because of the whole "DON'T TALK BADLY ABOUT ROBIN OR YOU'LL MAKE ME MAD!!! you won't like me when I'm mad… flame on" I mean that was soooo corny. When we first saw Zoro's "air slashes" there was no tacky excuse for revealing a new move; it was a pretty cool but random intro line about the Agony's of man. I like the way new moves just sort of happen out of the blue, but something about the revealing of this move just doesn't seem to flow.
First of all I happen to think Sanji's normal kicks actually broke through Jyabura's tekkai, which, imo, means that Sanji was able to hurt Jyabura despite his Tekkai being "on" (the same way Luffy surprised Blueno at the beginning of their fight). However, his kicks were only hurting Jyabura enough to surprise and not enough to achieve a KO. Sooooo he had to pull out the tacky make-me-mad phrase. Hopefully there will be a short explaination about the origin of that move, preferably having to do with flaming RED LEG ZEFF.
-
The only times Sanji actually hurt Jyabura were when he wasn't concentrating. Why would he feign running away if he could've just kicked him in the nose and done the same ammount of damage?
-
Which doesn't kill the argument that Sanji could in fact hurt him. And don't try to say some BS argument like oh well if Jyabura just kept his concentration Sanji wouldn't be able to hurt him. Sanji proved he could surpass Jyabura without his flame foot technique. The countless times he tricked Jyabura into dropping his Tekkai (which surpassed anyone elses since he could maintain it while moving, and yet still wasn't enough to stop Sanji).
Luffy likewise proved he could surpass Blueno's techniques in every possible way imagineable however we needed to be introduced to Gear 2 in order to signify the start of the level up of the SH. The leader character ALWAYS evolves first, regardless of skill power age etc. Thus it was Luffy that had to evolve first, not because Blueno was even the crap on Luffys sandals compared to Luffy, but because Luffy had to evolve first in terms of
shonen.Blueno never stood a chance, Gear 2 or otherwise, Luffy proved against the 1000 men he took down that he should have at least 1000 douriki which not only makes him stronger than Blueno, but coupled with how much more skillful Luffy is compared to Blueno he is simply better. CP9 are taught to be assassins. Super defene + super offense, they aren't taught to street brawl like Luffy does, Lucci on the other hand is just a superb fighter, where as Blueno had never fought an opponent like Luffy. Luffy does things that aren't inside the box, that is how he fights and that is why he wins against any classically trained fighter.
-
Am I one of the few who is rather content in this finishing move he demonstrated and further the possible link between himself and Zeft. He has a red lag now which wasnt done by setting his foot on fire with matches no different then zoro prodcing shockwave attacks with his blades or any number of other moves we have seen.
People get stronger this was a way to finish the fight it also gives him something new to introduce as many people would not have been satisfied if he just somehow got physically stronger and won the fight. If that was the case then hwo could CP9 be such a threat if someone with just kicking power beat up their strongest members. Now with his new kick which is getting upto above average level (when you consider the whole grand line) and into the heavy hitters it means he can now compete with the best.
-
Hmm what really confuses me now about this thread is:
Wasn't everybody like "why appeared Jyabura so weak? Sanji defeated him so easily" ?
And now it's Sanji who appears weak, cause he defeated the tekkai-master like that? Confusing…I would think Jyabura was very powerful and therefore Sanji had to use his new move... and by that was much more powerful.
To me it looks like Sanji had the 2nd strongest CP9er!
3rd in Douriki (close to 2nd), but he could move while using tekkai, he was the only one able to do that and he has his devil-powers much longer than kaku.
So I think you can not compare that with any other tekkai that was broken or will be broken...And also everyone used moves that were new to us to defeat a CP9er.
-Ruffy used 2nd Gear
-Nami used her new weapon
-Chopper had to use 3 Rumble Balls for his fight!
-and Franky has so many moves we don't know, yet -
About Sanji and Rankyaku… I read the whole water 7 arc and when cp9 talked about the 6 forms thsy said that with the speed and strenght of their legs they can vut the air which is calles Rankyaku.
So Sanji proved that he is fast maybe faster than most of the Cp9er but he still can´t cut the air... I didnßt get it at all
I love his new move and I think it is way more powerful han Rankyaku but it would be a little dissapointed if Sanji can´t do such a move

Maybe sanji just doesn't want to do the move? andd it's not just about speed. If it was Luffy and the others wouuld make air blasts every time they hit something.
-
Maybe but if someone could do such a useful move why he shouldn´t use it???
-
Cos he has better stuff? He doesnt have any ranged move so far, but i doubt he needs one. He already is faster than Soru and has the destructive power of the Flame-kick.
-
What is this obsession with ranged attacks? This isn't DBZ >_<

The real question is
Why gorillas Oda? if its not F A K E

Dont worry about it, i just get agitated when others persist on forcing their own opinions on others. As far as Luffy and Blueno… yes, Luffy DID hit Blueno first... but Blueno himself said he "underestimated" Luffy (after that, the battle was pretty much balanced). Secondly, to "keep up" and to "overcome" are totally different terms. Just because he could've kept up with it doesnt mean he is better. If you persist on to believe that these two weren't evenly matched... I'm not going to change your mind. This is just what i find most logical.
-

I dunno. The fact that he can kick someone so hard and fast that he simultaneously attacks three different spots is amazing.
In fact, I would hate if they all started learning enemy moves. That's such an old scheme. They don't need those kinds of things because they're unique and ultimately far superior by virtue of their individuality.
And maybe it's just me but rankyaku always seemed lame. Was never a fan.
-
….Well for me, with the exception of Luffy v. Blueno/Chopper v. Kumadori, I have been pretty much disappointed with all of the CP9 fights so far. It seems to me like the fights only last 3 chapters. The first chapter is a gag chapter where the characters do pointless stuff that is intended to be funny. The second chapter has the Strawhat character completely owning the CP9 agent. The final chapter has them pulling out some ULTRA MEGA NEW TECHINIQUE THAT IS COMPLETELY OVERKILL...and is very un-needed. Perhaps my hopes for these fights were too high, but I was anticipating that these fights would be better than Alabasta....I guess I was wrong. I also wish that Kaku would fight in his normal form....but I doubt it will happen.
I doubt I am the only one who thought this, but wouldn't it have been neat if the CP9 agents were just Superhuman and didn't have any Devil Fruit Abilities? It's almost like Oda thinks that there has to be devil fruits for the fights to be interesting (I am talking about the current arcs)....
/endrant
As for what Greg/OnK said, I don't think Rankyaku is that cool either...

I don't think the first chapter of sanji vs jyabura was a gag chpt. It was mostly serious with just one bad lie from Jyabura.
Neither do I think the SHs have completely owned their respective opponents in the second chpt (At least not Nami and Franky, don't know about Sanji). They were just starting to get the upperhand. I mean their opponents were still standing. Moreover that ULTRA MEGA NEW TECHINIQUE THAT IS COMPLETELY OVERKILL is necessary to overcome the CP9er. Lets face it, they are tough.

If it's done that way, then all the fights would look the same. I have no problems with DF. Most DF are unique in their own way, although Oda could exercise more creativity in the way he handle the Zoan type DF (In this arc). For example he could focus more on a unique aspect of the animal (Like the ease in digging tunnel for mole DF or flying for falcon DF), instead of just using the hybrid forms to boost their roukushiki.

The thing is that CP9 are trained to be assasins first and foremost. They were trained for years in rokushiki, so that is their main method of fighting. The way Ms. Merry Christmas fought was using the aspects of her zoan fruit. CP9 use their zoan fruits as an add-on to their already ingrained(sp?) style of fighting. Later on though I'm pretty sure we'll see other zoans use the animal characteristics they were given in battle as a main means of fighting.
-

yeah, same here. Since for the longest time, before we even knew what Kaku's DF was, I was really looking forward to seeing Zoro and Kaku fight… and of course I pretty much imagined Kaku in his normal form.... which in my opinion would be far more interesting, as much as I love the giraffekaku.
-
since this topic is mostly about Sanji I'd like to point out that
does it seem like this to anyone else but Sanji's fights always seem like the most fun, to both read and watch, Zoro's are all serious, Luffy's ater 100% badass but Sanji's are for lack of a better word just fun (with the occasional badass moment thrown in)
-
Of course! Sanji is my favourite character (since he fights with his feet, and I have size 18EEEE feet). His ridiculous swings from badass to simpering romance are the funniest running gags in OP, aside from Usopp.
I love Sanji's fights because he never seems to acknowledge the fact that he might lose, because he knows he won't. -
I know this is OT but how tall are you? Are you like mickey mouse/clown footed or a 7 foot basketball star?
-
I'm only 6'2".

Yes. The zoan hybrid forms work as enhancements, in some cases. Like when Lucci was in leopard form, his shigan had a claw and he could impale Luffy. Or when Kaku used his uber-long giraffe legs to CUT THE F*CKING TOWER IN HALF. Those kinda things.
-
Exactly, he's just using what Zoan characteristics he was given to augment his rokushiki skills. His fighting isn't based on what animal he is.

Uh, pardon me, but… where have you BEEN for the past 400+ chapters?
Nearly EVERY fight in the entire series was like that, and did you not enjoy those?I'm thinking this:
The new fans to be caught up with the series are annoyed because they actually have to WAIT to see more OP (instead of reading more off scanlations), so they decided to pick at and be annoyed with the tiniest detail till the new chapters comes out, at which time they rejoice when reading, then get annoyed that they have to wait again and the cycle continues.
But, yeah, ya know, that's just me.

Yeah, that's the problem I use to have when I frist became a fan in Oct. 2004. That's when I have no knowledge of before chapter 340 so I would end up waiting a week to week for an new chapter and I get annoy often. I remember I use to have problems understanding the rest of the story, but when someone shows a scanlation links I'll read some chapters but it's difficul to read on a computer montior.
Now I have 11 Viz One Piece manga and I can understand the story by reading it on my hands.
I remember I whine a lot every someone predicates, I end up following one chapters a time and I try to predicate the next chapter only to be disappointed when the chapter comes out. Now I don't predicate anymore and I keep speculation to myself to aviod getting obessessed and overhyped over an piece of paper.
I wish I can take a break following each chapters every week, I'll like to miss 15 chapters.
-
Yes, thank you. Someone who thinks sanely like this. XD

Sanji is just weaker…don't see a big deal with that. It's just feels more logical in my head that the cook usually isn't as strong as the swordsman though i don't mind about that...Sanji still kicks ass :)

NO! You'll start a war!
Yeah..it makes sense for a swordsman to be stronger then a cook, but Sanji is still a rival for Zoro.
-
It also makes sense for a Doctor to be weaker than the sniper, the cook to be weaker than the sniper, the carpenter (soon to be) to be weaker than the sniper…......except you know, they arn't (physically).
Things don't have to make sense to be believable all the time. yeesh.

I can agree Sanji is weaker then Zoro but remember Sanji isn't a normal cook, he's a cook trained by the Pirate Cook Redfoot Zeff and also lived in Baratie where the cooks are as bad as pirates (or somehting like that)
Also Sanji's dream isn't becoming the strongest kicker or the most powerfull warrior his dream is to find All Blue
Zoro's dream on the other hand is becoming the world's best Swordman

The new fans to be caught up with the series are annoyed because they actually have to WAIT to see more OP (instead of reading more off scanlations), so they decided to pick at and be annoyed with the tiniest detail till the new chapters comes out, at which time they rejoice when reading, then get annoyed that they have to wait again and the cycle continues.
But, yeah, ya know, that's just me.
:getlost: ….I made a comment to this, but it got deleted when I got timed out and had to re-log in. I'll summarize it real quickly.
All the fights in One Piece were not that short/quick and did not have them win so crazily by using a very strong new move without even fighting normally. I wasn't disappointed in any of the fights until we had Sanji v. Jabura (I expected Nami's fight to be like that).
As said in a earlier post, CP9 spent most of their lives training with Rokushiki and Now that they obtain devil fruits it seems as if they only rely on them (i was expecting non-devil fruit fights with the exception of Lucci and Blueno...pre-Jabura). Kaku and Kalifa only had their devil fruits for about 3 hours and they seem to know how to use them very well :getlost:
As for when I started reading and watching One Piece, I saw the anime first. It was when Jaya was airing. I started reading the manga around the time Vol. 21 came out. If you must know, I thought Skypiea was very boring weekly and waited awhile for the tankos to come out. I've loved every chapter of W7 until recent chapters...(Kaka v. Zoro >_<)
