It just needs some new colors. More white, some green, and they'll be ready for infinity and beyond.

Welp.

Every single Benghazi talking point is stupid. Every single one.
-
Benghazi has been breaking news for the past two years evidently
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Humans are classy, and our interstellar representatives should be the classiest of all if we want to put our best stiletto forward as a species.
Zero Suit Samus?
-
^ Exactly. That's the look that we should be going for with our space wayfarers. I'm thinking: Women astronauts in yoga spacepants. Yeah. That'd be good.

-
Well, Aliens can´t kill us if they are too busy laughing at us.

It's a hilariously manufactured controversy.

Still doesn't trump ObamaCare being bad for the country in every which way but loose.
-
You gotta turn the tragedy into a cow and milk it for all it's worth. Then when the milk runs out you have to kill the cow and eat it. When the cow is all consumed and not even its bones are left you must crap it out to fertilize the ground and eat whatever grows from there.
That is how you keep Benghazi in the news the way it is now.
-
Well, Aliens can´t kill us if they are too busy laughing at us.
We still have to go through another World War before the Vulcans come down and tell us children to behave.
-
don't dress for the planet you have. dress for the planet you want.
-
People are so scared that we are going to run into aliens that want to invade us.
When really, we're going to be the creepy fucking invaders who are dressed in that outrageous stuff. Not only will we look so freaky and laughably outlandish, but we will be armed to the teeth with scientific equipment and shit. Aliens beware, because we're coming, and we're dressed to kill.
With robot rockets. That astronomy thread post was really awesome.
-
Oh shit man. I would hate it if the first astronaut to get in contact with another civilization looks like Keanu Reeves and has the same acting range.
-

Obamacare would be great if it would stop getting opposed every inch of the way and cut down to half measures and just go through as originally intended. Once its had a couple more years to be in action and we have a different president (so its no longer Obama specifically being attacked for it) most people are going to love it.
I can't believe that "Universal healthcare" is something half the country is really incredibly opposed against. Along with "education" and "making streets and paying for police and fire stations" I'd think that would be something that should be really easy to agree to. I jus thave to assume they have the wrong impression about what it is.
Hell, I still keep hearing people say they're forced to go with Obamacare instead of their old plans… even though Obamacare isn't an insurance at all... its healthcare reform.
-
@Rob:
even though Obamacare isn't an insurance at all…
Funny neither were some of those old insurance plans that people got mad about not being able to keep under the reform.
-

Obamacare ISN'T an insurance plan. If someone had to switch from their old policy, its because the old policy was lacking in key mandatory things. They did not then switch to "Obamacare"… they switched to a new policy under the tighter guidelines Obamacare sets in place. THings like no lifetime maximums, bans on denied treatments, annual limits, discrimination, etc.
You can't get Obamacare as an insurance. Because it isn't. Its a mandatory minimum guideline, not its own program.
If someone's old plan doesn't fall under the new jurisdiction and has been phased out, it was missing some key stuff and likely had loopholes to screw you under, and switching to something else is better in the long run.
And for most people who have had their old plans twonked, the new things available will be much cheaper due to being spread out and more universal, and with better coverage.
-
Misinformation and politics.
Those are the main reasons people are so opposed to the reform.
-
Many Americans were under the impression that if, "they liked their health plan they could keep it. PEROID." This is mainly due to a talking point that worked more like a half truth, than a whole truth.
The talking point should have read, "If you like your health plan, you can keep it… As long as it complies with the benefits, rights, and protections offered by the ACA".
But that's more of a mouthful and its easier for Republicans to declare its all a bunch of lies if they leave out that part.
-
There are those whose plans are more expensive under the ACA but like you mentioned most of the times that is because these plans cover more, close loopholes, and provide more benefits overall making it less likely you'll get screwed over. People are stuck with this attitude of I don't need it. Yeah, you don't need it until you need it that is.
-
I literally can't afford health care at the moment. I want to get it when I can. And man, do I ever wish I had dental at this point.
(I start getting stuff done next week that I'll be paying for the rest of the year.)
-
Luckily, I'm under 26 so I'm covered by my parents.

This just happened, so I'm not sure what the damage is considering the quake hit somewhat east of Tokyo. Here's an article that gives us a little info and a link to a map showing the effected areas:

Japans at the scene of the Japan reported seeing "Massive Japans billowing up into the air at a very Japanese speed. Japan Japan Japan."At press time Japan could not be reached for comment.

It was a noticeable wakeup call, but I haven't heard one thing about damage or tsunami warnings.

A mere 6.2 isn't going to be enough to bring doom and destruction to Tokyo of all places. That city's built to take these kinds of hits. Call again when we're talking more than 8.
-
Depends on the location of the earthquake.
Magnitude is actually a rather useless method of measuring potential damage, that's why Japan uses Shindo measurements, which is indicative of earthquake strength in relation to the distance from the center, which means closer to the epicenter the higher the scale.
Dryish, a mere 6.8 magnitude EQ caused massive destruction in the great Hanshin EQ.
Osaka/Kobe area is just as well built against EQ as Tokyo, but the epicenter of this earthquake was pretty much directly below the region, so while the magnitude wasn't very high, the Shindo scale was.I personally went to relief efforts after the Hanshin EQ in 96, supplying ACs to temporary refuge housings and removing rubble from subways. I know first hand how devastating an Earthquake can be, when the epicenter is in the city zones. A 6.2 mag EQ can still wreck damage to Tokyo if it happens in a very pinpoint location - like right below 23 districts.
Thankfully this was only a shindo 5 scale EQ, meaning, epicenter nowhere near the city.

Also, and not speaking of Japan specifically because I'm not very familiar with that particular geology, but it makes a huge difference what kind of earthquake it is. There are several different types of tectonic shifts and ways the plates can move or interact, causing different propagation patterns and movement (such as violent shaking vs. heavy lateral swaying). It makes comparing pure magnitudes even less useful.
-
Hmm, yeah, you're both right, of course. I think I was subconsciously thinking about the epicenter being a bit away from Tokyo when no reports of massive damages were circulating around and Holygamer mentioned tsunamis that I automatically connect to an earthquake under the seafloor and not under the island itself. My mistake.

I've heard about this a few days ago and the kidnappings are still going on.

This is the kind of extremist crap that gives Islam a bad name but more importantly I hope they catch the scum and those girls are set free before they're sold into slavery. Its been what…3 weeks now though? About 50 escaped on their own I heard which is great but still a sad situation overall.
-
So Obama is sending a team in to help find the Nigerian girls. Although "team" in this case means military personnel, law-enforcement officials, and other agencies, not like marines or something. Still, I'm glad we're helping. Also, the Nigerian president's name is Goodluck Jonathan. How awesome a name is that?
http://time.com/89665/boko-haram-nigeria-girls/Buuuuuut, 8 more girls were kidnapped on Monday:

I hope the girls are all brought home safe.

An Arkansas judge has struck down the state's gay marriage ban; no hold pending appeal either. The Attorney General's office is expected to appeal it to the State Supreme Court on Monday so it's unlikely that any marriage licenses will be granted before then.

Another arch-conservative state too lol. -
How's Pennsylvania feeling?

How's Pennsylvania feeling?
We're auctioning off the deed next thursday.

God I wonder whether the Supreme Court is going to make same-sex marriage legal everywhere before Pennsylvania kicks Tom Corbett out of office in November.

That shithead is a really big part of the problem. Not that that stopped Maine from passing it with their shithead.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/brian-sullivan-op-rant-morning-joe The Benghazi BS has really begun to take its toll within the GOP. Brian Sullivan went on a great tear this morning. It will be interesting to see if they can hold themselves together through the 2016 elections.

First Utah, now Idaho. Considering how much money the Mormon Church threw into supporting Proposition 8 in California, this is just karma.

If I'm counting correctly, that makes twenty-eight states now; only twenty-one more to go before Pennsylvania joins the club.

The Plan is moving steadily forward.

Since we're talking about gay rights here's some news that shouldn't be news but is news because it's a first and that matters. Michael Sam became the first openly gay man to be drafted into the NFL but I'll be honest with you all, I really just wanted an excuse to post this video.
Haha!

Oh, and apparently marital rape is a legal thing in India.
