Evidently not. The people who do know don't bother to say anything and the people who don't seem puzzled and generally uninterested.

Is this real life? This is like the Pakistan version of news you'd hear coming out of Florida. If the baby actually threw a pebble would they give him life in prision?

The measure also would prevent cities and councils from enacting restrictions on the sale of firearms and ammunition, or imposing rules on how guns must be stored and transported.
Sooooo I guess enforcing safety measures so kids don't get into the gun case is a bad thing now? I know that this is mostly a parent's responsibility but it's like Kansas doesn't even care. They're preventing any safety measure on how guns must be stored from even taking place. Unless they're talking about how a gun must be stored while it's being transported and with that being the case the gun doesn't have to be in your glove box anymore. It can be right next to you on the seat~

What fueled the furor was growing public unease with rot at the top. Aleksei Navalny’s attack on Putin’s United Russia as the “party of crooks and thieves” sustained the energy of the demonstrations for months. The stench of total impunity had grown palpable, and it seemed to be worsening.
Don't you mean the stench of total

I mean it's 2014 and people are still trying to teach abstinence?

Now, some parents are worried that Mississippi’s new sex ed curriculum is more damaging than just not saying anything at all.
Isn't that true of abstinence-only education in general?
-
A couple years ago, I was digging through the printed PSA manual at my radio station. I found a still valid one about the dangers of premarital sex. I had to let other people know, so I showed it to my friend, who's a real social equality guy. He read through it, put it in his mouth and ate it. Nothing of value was lost.

Abstinence should not be banned from being taught in school but it most certainly should not be the center of any curriculum and definitely not the sole curriculum. It's a choice that any individual can make depending on his/her preference. Don't make it a religious thing, don't force it on anyone, and don't give it some kind of moral high ground. Schools need to teach about safe sex, the possible consequences of both safe and unprotected sex, and that, yes, it's perfectly acceptable and ok to wait. I'm not saying teach abstinence as some kind of virginial excuse (though no one should feel they need an excuse). There's so much peer pressure, not just from in school but also certainly in society, to have sex. Is it bad to counter that peer pressure with the more sesible approach of, "Yes, you can have sex but no you don't have to right now."
I mean, treating the mentioning of abstinence in school like it's some kind of dirty backwards word is ridiculous. Ew, abstinence, stupid and gross. I admit that it really depends on how you teach it and how its been taught has led to some problems, but there IS a middle ground. In my Sex Ed class in High School we were taught about abstinence, safe sex, and other sexual activities. It was like some kind of tolerant and sensible teaching institution. Crazy, right?
Can we just agree that a lot of this stuff needs to be covered at home too?

That's totally unreliable to say the least.

I know, which is why I believe sex ed should be mandatory in schools. I also believe parents have a responsibilty to talk to their kids about it and not treat it as a strictly school matter. Awkwardness and all, or at the very least be approachable if their kids have any questions. Fat chance of that happening.

I sometimes see my country as something a few steps behind the "big ones" to the west.
However, in this case, I can't help but be confused… we had proper sex ed class. It was like the most awesome sex ed class ever. We talked about everything, the nurse was kind and answered any questions (yes, every one of them), and we all learnt a bunch of things there.
I can't imagine what can be hard about that.
-
I thought it was about pepparmint flavoured burgers. So that was kinda disappointing.

To be more accurate, English nobility from Barbados built that whole area up as a giant India style caste system with rich whites, poor whites, and blacks in that order.
And add to that SUPER ruralness up to the present day even, plus being on the losing side of the civil war leading to entrenched stubborness/paranoia that you also see in the Russians…It's a big fuckin' mess basically.
And while some parts have moved on, Mississippi is like the absolute worst expression of it.

I can't remember the source, but in my undergraduate class on American Education I remember hearing that Miss. is the state that also spends the least amount of money per student in the public school system.
And, IIRC, they were one of the states that got shafted the hardest by the No Child Left Behind act.
Not a great place to educate your children.

I'll never forget one of my early lessons in the South on stuff like that.
All the pals I'd made in my first semester at SCAD were from varying parts of the South. Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida.
And we were discussing what our high schools lives had been like. And with one exception every single one of them had been to private schools.
And of course there's me as one (of two) in the entire group who had gone to a public school.
And I'm telling them stuff like "Oh man you must be well to do! Or really big super geniuses or something!"
But uh nope.
Turns out most of them are as middle class as me, and that the one girl who did go to a public school had grown up super poor. It's just that if you want your kid to get even a halfway decent education in the South you don't even bother with public high schools apparently. 0_o
And so my peer in public school experience as an upper middle class person was a girl who grew up in a trailer park. It was really bizarre.
Making it even funnier is I live even in one of the lower end towns in terms of quality public schools in CT and it was still optimal by comparison. -

I can attest to that some parts hadn't moved on too far.
As you already know, I came from N.Texas , the suburbs of Dallas-Ft.Worth …. very far from rural
BUT I admit this was in the 80s.... so ... yeah. Not sure if they are still this bad=Sex Ed was basically two different classes, official "Sex Ed" which was one class (yes only ONE to TWO hours!) which was classic scare tactics and then "Child Development" (a real class) in high school.
The classic scare tactics "Sex Ed" was held in 5 or 6th (differed in districts) grade at the end of the day (so teachers had a cut off time and no more questions) ... well there were very few Q&As. It didn't even tell of of the sexual function, of what the world was happening to our bodies ect.
This "class" was a film that detailed the various diseases that we could catch from having sex. ... yes that was the only thing they taught us there, that if we have sex then we get VDs. There is only a mention of the possibility of getting pregnant, which was at the beginning then rest was showing the sores and diseased flesh .... classic right?Of course this 'class' didn't get the response they were expecting.
Needless to say some kids went home swearing they won't ever get married since sex leads to disease! The Child Development class was far better and the teacher was far more interesting. ...and this was the class that taught me the importance of waiting until I was grown to have a baby
While the class didn't talk about the act of sex, it did discuss how sex leads to pregnancy ... meaning it was then the N.Texas school system taught kids about man deposits sperm to fertilize woman's egg leads to baby. But it then went into how the baby develops, both inside the womb and after birth. We learned what it takes to feed, clothe and care for a baby. Not just money-wise but in emotionally and mentally. So yeah, that class was far better than the classic scare tactics of "Don't do it!"

We had a seminar type thing for boys and girls in 5th grade which covered basics. Then we had normal health classes in middle school and high school both which covered everything else pretty well.

The way I understand it, it's the property tax laws that matter most. In most of the US, there are these special property tax laws that make it so that well-to-do neighborhoods have more of their taxes siphoned to ONLY their local public schools. This way, depending on where exactly you grow up, you could have had a pretty good public school, even if the average public school in the state sucks ass.
Of course, there's also the case where really great public school states have incredibly horrible inner city schools for the exact same reason.
-
Also don't get me wrong, the innercity public schools up here are still shitholes.

Seriously, check out that moustache!

All I know is that I want the facial features and hair of the guy underneath. There's something incredibly Finnish about his looks, and darn if that doesn't look good.
-
^ There are two different guys "underneath", right?
He does have some good lookin' hair.
-
I don't actually think so, no. The jawline is the same, and the shape of his eye isn't different either. I think it's just the fact that the shading makes his hair and his eyebrow seem darker in the second picture.
-
I think it was the crease in the lip that threw me off. And maybe that his cheekbones seem higher or his face seems longer. LOL ok I'm looking away now.
-
What? Embrace the natural beauty of humans. Erotic undertones are not necessary for the appreciation of bodies. :P
-
oh, no, i can appreciate it. it's a beautiful bubble butt, i'm just getting jealous because i'm kinda flat-assed. ._.
-
XD
Well, there's always something about our bodies that we don't quite like as much, but I'm still fairly convinced that there's unique beauty in every one of us. It's just a question of finding it and seeing it. I'm not the prettiest prettiest prince on earth either, but I'll survive. :P
In any case, I can't wait to start sending letters with these on to people in Russia.
