Love - His ability to befriend people that don't want to be befriended, and are from a completely different culture.
Loathe - His scientific way of thinking often disrespects those around him.
Overall 3/5

Love : Pretty much everything, especially his relationship with Calgara and the flashback detailing it.
Loathe : Nothing about him as a character, at all.
5/5
Ditto.
What's there to loathe about him? The way he died is nothing to hate him for. He went out honestly and he never told a lie.
Ooh what a cool thread ! Norland eh?
Love: His overall badassness, and relationship with Calgara, and having a job not very common in the OP universe.
Loathe: maybe just his communication skills, like with Calgara and the trees, but that's less of a loathe and more of a minor complaint.
4.5/5

Basically this. I wouldn't mind expanding but Daz already said everything there's to say. Great character.
Norland's Arlong Park Evaluation
What you loved:
Favorite comment goes to The Daz:
“Love:He's a badass, rational humanist. He stands opposed to harmful superstition and stagnation, and is 100% motivated by embettering the lives of others. He is everything a scientist should be. ”

What you loathed:
*I just wanted to note that The Daz came to Norland's defense on many of his bigger flaws and I thought he did a fine job of it.
Favorite comment goes to El-Matematico:
“Hate:That he's just a flashback side character.”
Finally, the poll! With 13 votes (!), Norland's average score is 4.19! Really good considering he had a couple of low scores weighing him down.
Thanks to all that responded! I will post my next pick later on today. HINT:It will be our first female character and…ugg...I am feeling a little depressed already.
Until then.
Darn it! I'll definitely get the next one.

Sorry, but that "disrespect" saved hundreds of lives. You loathe the fact that he, by merit of being intelligent and pragmatic, opposed some caveman level superstition in order to save lives?
No offense to you, of course, just asking out of curiosity, cause "loathe" is kind of the point here.
Norland's doctor pretty much said it best: "He doesn't hate your gods or ancestors. He just knows what's more important…"

First off loathe is indeed a really strong word and what I said was really my biggest dislike.
I know the outcome of his scientific thinking and understand why it had to be done. I am truly happy Noland managed to make that happen, and my only issue in that working for the greater good he disrespected the Shandorians. That may even have been Noland's only option and probably was the best option, but he still caused some facet of disrespect. No matter how deserving he really was, or how sincere his intentions he still caused disrespect, if even for a short time, and that is what I dislike.
good idea for a thread. i'm definatley being a part of the next one
I second that, black-leg.
I'm guessing either Hancock or Rebecca is next from the contempt in your tone; I don't really know though.
Horohorohorohorohorohoro
I would very much like to nominate Kuzan or Mihawk for a character evaluation :/ got a bad feeling about the way you introduced the idea of "that woman" being analyzed. I hope it is an established character like Tashigi or Vivi because judging a character like Rebecca before her story reaches its conclusion would not be fair.
Love & Loathe #4
Let's get our cute on. It's time to evaluate: Perona**!**
In case you're new…Here's the deal: We are looking to hyper-critique a character to try and pinpoint what makes them great and what makes them terrible. After enough people respond, I will organize what are the best and worst traits of the character, and compile an evaluation post later. Also, don't worry if you have the same answers as others, the point is to figure out a common denominator for the character.
So the two questions for you are:
What one thing do you consistently love about Perona?
What one thing do you consistently loathe about Perona?
And give Perona a rating of between 1 and 5, with 5 being the highest(.5's are acceptable - ex. 1.5 or 4.5). I will tally these.
Enjoy.
Love: Unique face design. In a series where female characters suffer from sameface, she is a breath of fresh air.
Loathe: She was willing to abandon Moriah and flee Thriller Bark the moment she felt threatened. So much for loyalty. It also shows that she's no better than Usopp in terms of bravery, despite having a powerful DF that deals with ghosts and hanging out with zombies.
3/5
Love: Her outfits. I really like the lolita style. Her Devil Fruit is also really cool and unique.
Loathe: She's really whiny all the time, and it can be annoying.
3/5
Love: Her design. It's so unique, especially compared to many of the other females in OP. Another thing I love is her tendency to be a bit… psychotic. Like when she put her ghost body inside of Usopp and threatened to solidify herself. You just gotta love that in a cutesy female character.
Oh, and that laugh.
Loathe: She was really whiny and got annoying with Zoro during the SH separation.
4/5
HoroHoroHoroHoro
I would very much like to nominate Kuzan or Mihawk.
I DO take requests into consideration, so consider them both officially moved up the list. I just want this series to go on for a little while and if I blew through all of the interesting characters in the first week it wouldn't be any fun. So I have been staying away from the Shichibukai (mostly), Yonkou, Admirals and Mugiwaras. Thanks for the requests though, it has been noted.
Horohorohorohorohorohoro
! Yay! You're the first winner!
Love: Design in general. It helps to have her stand out from same-y OP females when you got pink hair, a gothic lolita theme, and Rock Lee eyes.
Loathe: I guess….she was a little too whiny at parts? If we're talking about things in-universe (and not the infamous nakama debates here), there's nothing that really sets me off about Perona.
4.5 out 5 for me.
Love: Definitely her character design. She's just as pretty as Robin, Nami, Vivi, and the others, but unlike them, Perona has an uncommon OP female look that everyone can greatly appreciate because it's different from the norm.
Loathe: She can be a bit annoying, but it's not to the point where it's overbearing.
4.5/5
Love: Her negative hollow attacks are hilarious.
Loathe: She is very cocky, sometimes.
3.5/5
Love: Contrary to what others have expressed, i was actually amused by the fact that she has a bit of an attitude. She wasnt intimidated by Kuma nor Mihawk. I liked when she scolded Zoro for his poor manners during the SH departure. IIRC she was also one of the few female character to openly call out Sanji for being a pervert to his face, and i found her overall reaction to his creepy over enthusiastic reaction to seeing a "real woman" again after two years rather funny. I never understood why some people are so turned off when a character dares to complain or try to "lecture" others, even if it is just for a few panels. In my opinion a lot of the humour in the series is derived from the small bickering the between characters.
Loathe: Her DF and the effects of her Negative Hollow ability (on characters thats not Usopp) became a tad predictable and tedious once the novelty wore off.
Rating 3.5/5
Love: Her unique character design, her Devil Fruit powers, willingness to talk down to Kuma and Mihawk, the way she treated Kumacy, and providing a great dynamic with Zoro. Seriously, he doesn't talk to anyone that isn't a Straw Hat or a swordsman.
Loathe: Getting scared of Oars and ditching Moriah.
Rating: 4.5/5
Love: Coolish design for a female on Oda's standards.
Loathe: Kind've annoying to be totally honest in the manga and in the real world. Her power lost its novelty real quickly and nothing she has done outside of Thriller Bark has been that great. In the real world, the fans who wanted her join the crew Kind've made me hate her.
2.5/5
Love: Cool design (both pre and post timeskip), cool power (she could've singlehandedly defeated the entire SH crew sans Usopp, kinda scary to be honest. . .), gave Usopp a chance to shine with a very nice fight; dirty tricks + brains, something we don't usually get in One Piece. It was a nice touch that she was kinda relevant post-TB, though it seems with the last cover story she was in, her role is mostly over. . .unless she goes searching for Moriah.
Not so much love: For a villain that could've put the entire crew in deep shit, she got out unscathed by merit of being a woman. I think Usopp might've wanted to scare her back after all the spooky shit she made to him, so that could be the kind of payback Usopp was going for, but let's not forget she almost bombed him to death too. . .
Aside from that, her personality wasn't very memorable, but not annoying either (the anime laugh is another matter, but since we're talking manga, I don't take that into account).
Rating: 3.5 / 5.
Love:Cocky gothic lolita with small breast and a creepy sense of humor. And she likes cute stuff which makes her somehow adorable with her design.
Loathe:Cannot see anything to loathe .
4.5/5
Love: Her fun-loving personality. Unlike the rest of Moria's crew, she only stuck around for the laughs to live out her strange fantasies. Even the zombies she had around her seemed more independent that the others that took orders for Moria and Absalom. The way she just flat out messed with Usopp and Zoro for her own personal amusement was also very entertaining to watch.
Loathe: Her spoiled brat behavior, with Kumacy at the receiving end (though it was funny at times)
4/5
Love: Her DF power, her design and the fact that she defeated the whole crew(except Usopp) with ease lol
Loathe: Her laugh and spoiled bratiness
Love: her sinisterly mocking laugh that jars you to the core. Her complimentary humorous reactions to Zoro's abysmal sense of direction also helped her character shine in a unique light.
Loathe: her whiny nature which attributed to her lack of memorability in terms of her personality relative to other characters in the One Piece story.
Rating: 3.5/5
Love - Design and cool entertaining powers.
Loathe - Her brattiness and whininess.
Overall 4/5
Love: She's got a very unique design while still being atractive (i.e., no Namiface or fat/ugly). The fact that even tough she's a woman, she's not designed to be Nami's match and could defeat almost the whole crew. Interesting powers.
Hate: She isn't a well developed character at all, just a girl that likes money and cute/creepy things. Doesn't have much fighting skills, physical or mental strenght and relies entirely on her overpowered devil fruit. The exploding hollows are just random.
4/5, if only because she breaks female stereotypes.
Not so much love: For a villain that could've put the entire crew in deep shit, she got out unscathed by merit of being a woman. I think Usopp might've wanted to scare her back after all the spooky shit she made to him, so that could be the kind of payback Usopp was going for, but let's not forget she almost bombed him to death too. . .
Doesn't sound like a character trait though, as she did seem willing to put herself in harms way (i.e. Kuma). That issue appears more coincidental and outside the character's control.
Love - Unique design and ability. Her ability and it's results particularly highlighted the futility of power levels in OP, when pertaining to hax abilities.
Loathe - Her cowardice and annoyance levels were over 9000.
Rating - 2.5/5
Love: i like her design. Her outfts are nice and her face is unique in one piece which is nice. It's definitley the eyes that do it. I also really like her ability. Like some other DF it is really unique. It's not just some generic ghost DF, it makes people who touch the ghosts depressed which had some hilarious outcomes with straw hats. I also like that she got to stay in the series with her role with zoro. I also appreciate that she gave usopp his first proper fight since alabasta, and his first proper fight on his own since arlong! (i'm ignoring the luffy fight obv)
Loathe: she can be a little annoying or whiny in the anime. I don't mind the VA but it's understandable why people might. I still like her though.
5/5 Perona is my 2nd favourite female character after Vivi so i pretty much knew what score i would give her horororororororo
Love: One of the most unique "attractive female"-designs Oda has ever done. Cute girly personality contrasted with fondness on swearing, gothic castles and zombies. Creative and funny power.
Loathe: I'm not gonna lie, even I couldn't always stand her voice and laugh in the anime! :getlost:
Overall: 4.5/5
Love: An individual sense of style, even for this series. You've got to have an attitude to have a crown as everyday wear without any evidence you're a princess. But why the heck not when you've got enough power to back it up.
Loathe: Her dismissiveness of Kumacy's loyalty was sad & indicative of being a brat more than any other trait. But since she was forced to stay on the island there's evidence she's changed for the better. Her clumsy attempts to help her enemy, Zoro and expressing true grief when hearing Moriah had died.
From me that gives her a 4/5.
Love: she had a nice character design oh and she has nice taste in fashion.
Loathe: She really didn't leave much of an impression on me, found her personality a bit bland and boring, her powers were ok I guess overall she just annoyed me which is never good.
so I'll give her 2/5 because am a super nice guy.

Thanks to all that responded! I will post my next pick later on today. Here's the HINT: Our next character has some killer makeup!
Until then.
hmm i think it will be ivankov or not heeehaaa
Lol Then that means it might be Kumadori from CP9 (they're cold-blooded killers and he wears makeup).
No, it's definitely Bon Clay.
is her fanbase a good reason to hate her…. and by fan base I mean AGOG
does anyone have that edit of mozgus dressed up as kuma smashing in perona's head
nvm found it lol http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Demescus/media/Oldtimereligon.jpg.html
Love & Loathe #5
Let's get our iffy on. It's time to evaluate: Bon Clay aka Mr. 2 - real name: Bentham**!**
For the newbies…Here's the deal: We are looking to hyper-critique a character to try and pinpoint what makes them great and what makes them terrible. Love: His willingness to sacrifice himself for friendship.
Loathe: Too stereotypical, though he doesn't hold a candle to Ivankov. He also contributed to the Alabasta civil war.
4/5
Isn't it a crime to hate Bon Clay??
Love: His friendship with SH crew.
Loathe: I always thought he helped SH crew at the end of Alabasta way too easily, but what gives?
5/5
Love: His strong emphasis on friendship. He'll sacrifice himself time and time again (Alabasta, Impel Down) in order to help his friends, without a nanosecond of hesitation or doubt.
Loathe: Nothing. But, how did he survive Magellan's poison? I'm glad he did, but how?
5/5
Love: His value for friendship, to the point to sacrifice himself, twice.
Loathe: His DF is kinda useless in a battle.
5/5
Love:How he went from being a villain to one of the most well liked characters. He really shined during the Impel Down Arc where we got to see how strong his determination was and how much he valued friendship. Overall, in opinion, he has become a very kind-hearted character who I look forward to seeing again in the story. And one of my favorites scenes in the manga is his goodbye scene with Luffy at the end of Impel Down.
Loathe:I can't really think of anything really but maybe he could use his Devil Fruit power more effectively in battle
5/5
