We know that the material Trebol produces is INCREDIBLY adhesive and powerful. Lifting the ship was probably a combination of his own strength and the strength of the adhesive. We don't know if its some kind of glue or what yet. It could possibly harden into something really durable, similar to the Wax Wax fruit. It reminds me of "Sovereign Glue" from DnD.
Chapter 738: "Trebol Army, Special Executive Sugar"

I don't mind Usopp being coward, actually I want him to be. After the timeskip I was afraid he would lose this side, so I was really happy when he started to show it of again.
Usopp is my favorite character after Buggy not despite of his cowardice, but because of it (among other things). However, I have to say even I am annoyed by how he is behaving. He is showing so little empathy towards the dwarves that he is starting to become a pain. Even with the little guys risking their lives in front of him, he simply can't do anything but watch? Seriously, this is a bit too much even for him. I would expect that from Buggy 'cause he is supposed to be coward and villanous, not coward and heroic. Obviously Oda is doing this so at some point Usopp will stand to protect the dwarves, but until that moment comes I think he is overdoing it.
Right now, instead of finding it funny, I just want him to be punched in the face so he can get his things straight. -
Nice chapter, though I have to wonder why they simply had to charge in instead of sneaking that tobasco grape in :/ Yeah, yeah, good ol' underestimation :(
Other than that, I hope we'll see Ussop in action soon. He's starting to irritate me a little. And I'd love it if Sugar got knocked out by Trebol's attack at the end xD
-
This is ussop line!
!

All against Usopp. ^^
What would you say if Trevor has taken Sugar out, I mean he threw a whole pirate ship at the tower she is in… Oo
Ah I think it would be veeeery funny ^^ -

Right now, instead of finding it funny, I just want him to be punched in the face so he can get his things straight.Yeah, pretty much in agreement there. I also prefer Usopp as at least being cowardly sometimes, like in front of a terrifying foe he can't possibly beat. But in this chapter it seems that Usopp might get some of the dwarves killed (suggestively) while Usopp continues to cower. It definitely seems like Usopp is merely using the dwarves rather than caring about their well-being, with his "Me too?" response suggesting he only cares about saving his own hide. It also doesn't help that the foe in question is ,externally, a little girl–the sort of foe I'd expect Usopp to consider a piece of cake and try and take on with false bravado.
-
Really nice chapter, we get to know more about smiles, trevor's strenght and is alwys good to see Robin. Also sugar looked freaking cool in that panel when she did the little black bears attack
-
Basically we know Trevor/Trebol is too much of an opponent for all them put together, but his opponent will be the chaos and the trouble that will occur once Sugar gets knocked out. I thought about Kanjuro being a possible opponent, that can hold Trebol/Trevor back, while the others escape safely to the surface. Trebol looks like the type of character that would destroy the whole area just to eliminate his enemies. So I don't know what to expect.
-
I hoping to see Usopp vs Sugar and Robin Vs Trebol, it would be awesome!!

Right now, instead of finding it funny, I just want him to be punched in the face so he can get his things straight.I also wanted Usopp to remain cowardly after the time-skip. It is the majority of his character, and his dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea so I don't see why people expect that of him already. Though I did expect him to be a little more confident than he is now (with his power upgrade). But remember this is Donflamingo they are fighting so Usopp is entitled to be afraid of the SHs current situation (not to mention a marine Admiral being on the island and the prospect of Kaidou in the future). Usopp is also aware of the strength the dwarves have (physically stronger than himself), which is why I think he let them rush in against Sugar (who he must have partly underestimated) while he remains hidden… like he has consistently stayed hidden behind Luffy, Zoro, Sanji etc when he feels he isn't needed (that's his excuse alongside the fear factor). When Usopp doesn't feel he's needed he doesn't feel the need to put himself in danger (which in this case could work out). However, when the right moment arrives Usopp (or Sogeking hopefully) will be the difference in victory. He needs to be forced into a battle for his will to protect others to emerge, and like the SHs his will gets stronger throughout battle (but in Usopp's case it goes back to 0% after). Sanji put it well on Enies Lobby when he told Usopp to do what only he is good at, which led to the epic stance on the Tower of Justice and Robin being saved.
-
I must be the only person not annoyed by it.
I figure Usopp's going to enter the situation right about now.
My only question is, is Robin going to fight Trebol, or is Usopp? Trebol has long ranged attacks and a sniping ability. Sugar probably can't be touched at all by Robin's power I'm thinking?
-
Well Ussop is long range fighter as sniper, should be easy to take down Sugar.
-
Good chapter. I like how focused it was. I hate how the chapters have had five different scenes lately. Doesn't let you get into any of them. Causes pacing problems.
-
It's not Usopp being Usopp that's annoying. I also don't want him to become brave all of a sudden (I know some people thought that would happen as soon as Sabaody 2.0 took place).
It's just that with his cowardice came at least a bit of a sense of justice. Here it feels like as long as he's not the one being targeted, he's ok with the outcome of this mission.
And it's weird, considering how he's being idolized by the very dwarves that he's sending to do his bidding. That should raise his morale, right? It seems like the opposite is taking place.
Anyways, as I said, I don't doubt for even a second that when it's time to get down and dirty, he'll do it, but it feels like Oda is dragging the situation and making every Usopp comment more outrageously coward and selfish than the last, which shouldn't be the case.
Anyways, that shouldn't be a reason to hate the chapter since it was like 4 pannels out of the entire thing, and the rest of the stuff was basically very good.
-
BETA BETA means sticky sticky.
Sticky Icky? Well Trébol is pretty trippy and the stickier the icky, the better
-
Yall don't realize that Usopp figured the dwarves could take care of it by themselves. We got cut away as soon as he reacted to the operation failing and the dwarves turning into toys. He's probably going to either get conflicted next chapter and then take action, or just take action immediately. I think the cutaway is what's making people disappointed.
Also, the crashing ship will probably reveal him anyway.
-
Could some mod please change the title of the thread? The current one looks terrible.^^
I like it when Oda gives us names of some characters like Sanshita or Ibusu - makes the world seem even livelier. The chapter also had some art with the Smile factory and Sugar scenes.
And I actually didn't find Usopp's cowardice as annoying as it was in previous scenes of this arc. This chapter he maybe just sent the dwarves in alone, but that's also because physically they are stronger than him - so I didn't get the feeling he would immediately run off, when something bad's happening. While in previous chapters, there was literally always a thought bubble explaining how he will try to flee if something goes wrong. Wonder how Trébol throwing that ship will affect the whole situation though.
Trébol seems to have a thing for destruction btw. I don't know if destroying the wall just because of a fly or destroying the whole tower now was really that necessary.
-
There seems to be a lot of Usopp hate because of this latest chapter. I'm not really sure if it's because people set their expectations for Usopp way too high or if they just don't like the character in general, but I honestly don't get it. Usopp may still show his signs of cowardice often but it's never out of malicious intent. You can even see in this chapter that he's now concerned about their situation since the Tontatta are obviously not succeeding at the moment. Plus, the fact that he still struggles with his quest to become more brave is essentially the idea that the character is centered upon. Like, if Nami or Chopper freaked about about how frightening an antagonist was and tried to run away, it wouldn't really be funny because it doesn't have any relevance to the character. But with Usopp that's essentially his biggest ongoing conflict throughout the entire series. I think a lot peoples' issues with him has to do with the fact that they view his "becoming a brave warrior of the sea" dream as a concrete goal like some of the other dreams of the Straw Hats when that couldn't be further from the truth. Overall what I think his dream can be best translated to is Usopp just wanting to become a better person in general. Hell, even by the end of the series I'm willing to bet that he'll still be a nervous wreck about things and will get scared about any foreign situation at the drop of a hat, but by then and after all the experiences that he's been through he will have grown as a human being. Growing up is what Usopp's character is all about, and he's still in the process of doing so.
I have virtually no doubt in my mind that Usopp will step up to the occasion and save the day. Not only is this crucial to defeating Doflamingo, but it would also bring Usopp's role in the arc full circle as he'd now be completley justified in his "Usoland the mighty hero" claims that are the reason why the Tontatta idolize him in the first place. Also, I guess I am biased since Usopp is my favorite character in the series, but he's also my favorite for a reason (which I explained above), and that's because whenever he behaves a certain way it can almost always be completely rationalized.
-
I am displeased by Usopp. But yeah, I am fully aware of that he is just being Usopp.
I guess I was hoping that he would have turned after the talk with the gnomes as for why they would save their mean princess.
http://read.powermanga.org/content/comics/one_piece_5251c1a821656/717_0_the_forgotten_of_dressrosa_525255a9e6ad1/18.pngMy expection at the time was that he would somehow relate to that and get serious. That was obviously many chapters ago. He will come around. Eventually. Temporarily. But that's Usopp!
-
Also, I think it's important to remember (no pun intended) the fact that Usopp is just as unaware of the fact that half of the Tontatta were turned into toys as the rest of the Tontatta now are. To Usopp it probably seems like a random attack that Sugar just pulled off, so he is still hoping that the Tontatta could take care of it somehow. He's not just sitting idly by while saying to himself "The Tontatta are attacking their own comrades right now, no problem here!" Usopp is not malicious, it just may seem that way becasue we're aware of who has been turned into toys.
-
The characterization of Ussop did a 180. There's building suspense, which I get,but we know he's not going to betray the dwarfs and it seems pointless to pretend.
I want a combination of Sogeking and old ussop for time skip Ussop. I just hate that he had all that character growth for no reason.
Other thing, Sugar's weakness is probably something with her contract, there's something weird about the phrasing of it. Or a toy with autonomy can attack or Ussop's sniping skills. She can't turn objects (ussop's ammo) into objects probably.
Lastly. I WANT ROBIN TO FIGHT TREBOL!!!! I want to see her growth.
-
I just hate that he had all that character growth for no reason.
That's a pretty bold statement. So much of his character growth throughout the first half of the series was regarding his insecurities with being part of the crew and trying to not feel like he was useless. Basically all of his more intense dramatic moments revolve around this aspect. He wants to prove his worth to his crewmates and everyone else and it's his fear that ends up being his biggest obstacle. And it's an obstacle that is still present within him and probably always will be. But that's what makes the character endearing. It's a goal that he keeps fighting for.
To say that Usopp has grown without purpose is pretty ridiculous. That's like saying that Luffy's growth has been pointless just because he's not the King of the Pirates yet.
-
People actually thought that Sugar would be absolutely defenseless despite her employment by Doflo and her cold-hearted nature? Weird
-
People actually thought that Sugar would be absolutely defenseless despite her employment by Doflo and her cold-hearted nature? Weird
It's mostly because she needed a bodyguard.
-
This arc has introduced a lot of character to Robin, she's badass!
-
Great chapter, the SMILEs, Robin actually doing something, and Tebol's gooeyness is ready for action.
-
She didn't use CoA against Monet, though.
Neither did Sanji i. I don't think it means much. They can still have Robin pull out some low level haki the way Tashigi did.
-
So Trebol's MO is to ensure Sugar's safety… And then he drops a fucking ship on the building she's in?
Either Trebol is very impulsive, or Sugar is agile enough to avoid injuries from that. It just seemed like a slightly random reaction on his part. That said, seeing him spring into action with that kind of power is really cool - he's obviously not a pushover.
He seems to be a bit impulsive as he destroyed part of wall just because of some big fly:ninja: also Sugar also seems to be quite strong so she should be fine but at same time she was screaming for Trebol to come back and that does not mean that she was doing alright at the moment so It would be really funny to think that Trebol would be the one to KO her with a ship
-
The reason why Trebol is able to hurl at ship at the officers tower and not worry about Sugar's safety is that Sugar isn't the type of person who would allow herself to be injured by something like that. Remember when Baby-5 was going nuts trying to blow up Doflamingo. Sugar was right next to him and didn't bat an eye. He destroyed the tower so that he could reveal the enemies hiding inside of it knowing Sugar would be fine. His guarding of Sugar is almost superfluous but clearly he's there for the unforeseeable case that something goes very very wrong, after all they are in the NW and probably have plenty of enemies.
-
Okay so the Dwarves plan has already crumbled. Sugar can hold her own against the Dwarves - She's at least as fast as them and capable of surviving Trebol's ship throw - and is now having them fight each other. Robin is nowhere near Sugar and Usopp hasn't shown his face. Also, and most importantly, Trebol shows why he holds a key seat in the family. Oda has illustrated how a fruit who some severely underrated could be used creatively and destructively in combat - casually launching a ship into the tower. I don't see anyone outside of the Monster trio taking Trebol out 1 on 1, unless Oda plans to make Robin badass all of a sudden.
Predictions: At this point while I don't see anyone defeating Trebol, and Sugar not eating the fake grape (she dropped all her grapes and basket), but the plan still not considering knocking Sugar out… It's up to Usopp. Yes, he has to shoot that tobasco pill into Sugars mouth and have her swallow it. Choking would also be okay if they manage to resuscitate her.
-
One thing I'm liking about Donflamingo's crew is that many of them are legitimately strong. Both Sugar and Trebol have powerful devil fruit, and in the past that would have been enough. But no, Sugar is a speedster. Meanwhile, Trebol possesses super speed, super accuracy, and super strength to boot. This guy is a monster, unlike the gimmick devil fruit users of past arcs, or even the few that are in his crew like that art DF lady. He seems like a great enemy.
-
So guys what do you think are the implications on the Dwarves being unable to grow Devil fruits? Does it mean that they aren't just a strange occurence of nature but something else? maybe man made, because we've basically got confirmation that the Dwarves can grow anything but not DFs apparently. Actually the dwarves have been the biggest plot progression in a long while, don't understand why people ignore them.

Yea there's something fishy about that line where the dwarf says these smile are very unnatural..
-
Did Trevor KO Sugar???
-
I've always thought that Ussop was the obvious match up for Sugar. Scare her into unconciousness, Perona says hi.

Nothing fishy about it. Because df is not suppose to be man-made.

Because they are artificial DF, the product of a scientist, they are not the real ones.
Btw first post, after a shortwhile lurking i decided to subscribe because this seems a great fanforum :)

What the…? Is Robin able to perform Kage Bunshin No Jutsu now?? xD
As far as I know, her fake body must be attached to something or someone but it could never move or run as she did

It is, welcome!
On a chapter related note, I guess this confirms that Sugar can make the toys look like whatever she wants, not just randomized. Still waiting to see toy Hakuba.

Things are getting even more interesting. I suppose I should have known but I never would have imagine the smile actually grew on fruit bearing plants. I just assumed with all the chemicals involved they would be created through some sort of machine being processed into a fruit shape like how we shape candy or something.
Of course with the Tontatas being able to cultivate any plant, it makes even more sense that they are the ones doing the dirty work with the Smile. I don't know how I didn't put 2 and 2 together immediately.
Then there is the ripening aspect to the fruit. Is there something more to it or are the slaves just picking too soon? If these grow on trees and ripen(even if through artificial means), then Oda's original idea of the Gum Gum fruit coming from some gum gum tree may just prove true later on. At the very least the Devils Fruit could start growing from some wicked/magical plant until it ripens and falls off. Only then would the Devil Fruit life cycle that we are currently aware of would take place.
We know for a fact these Smile Fruit contain many types of animal powers. So far everything looks exactly alike but each tree could be a different color bearing only one animal fruit each. Or maybe everything grows randomly? That would certainly be odd as well. I have to assume the different serial numbers for SAD represent a different chemical corresponding to a different animal.
-
Sugar and contracts.
How many contracts per object? 1 at a time. If so, can she change it.
Unless the toys are slaves, then the contract should be made up of payment/reward. From the toy's persperctive the payment is following what Sugar dictated regarding who to obey etc. What is the reward??
From Sugar's perspective, what is it she gives up to the toys??Something we need to learn, and I do think we will quite sooon, is how the toy soldier was able to break free of Sugar's orders.
A scenario is that the Toy soldier never got a contract, but just a transformation. Maybe Flamingo wanted the Toy soldier to keep his free will and suffer and realize that no matter what he does he can't change the society he now lives in.Just some thoughts, and I am intrigued by Sugar.
-
Robin and Usopp vs Trebol and Sugar. Please happen. Pleaaaaaaase happen.
Absolutely loving that the chapter focused on one theatre only.
The thing with the captured dwarves was pretty unsurprising; the idea that they'd be cultivating Smiles and that they'd been duped had been, I think, pretty obvious for some time. Bit of added brutality to make the Doflamingo Family look even nastier.
Also, Trebol is scaaaaary~
-
• "People never usually ask me why I'm not doing anything" this line says it all and I understand why some people are so pissed about Usopp but you have to keep in mind that he has always been back up by monster, he has never been in a situation where people are actually depending on him to do the job, so I think this is the time where Oda choose to develop a part Usopp that is still sleeping and will come into play more often.
• Robin is just being awesome, I hope she gets to fight Trevol and why did she close her eyes before capturing Leo?
• 1 out of 10 smiles, this has to be Caesar fault lol
• Trevol doesn't seem to be a Logia, but he's just another mr 3/ Magellan

It looks like the cloning was wearing the real hat/helmet of Robin. And when Trebol cathed the body the hat fell of and the cloning disapeared.

It is for sure going to be both Usopp and Robin against Trebol and Sugar … perhaps they will have backup to beat trebol once Sugar is KO'ed and all toys turn back to their Human form.
A scenario that I would really love to love to see is Sugar turns Usopp to a toy but fails to put him under a contract because either dwarves or Robin attack her, Usopp runs and tries to make Robin remember him xD but later on take opportunity and KO Sugar with the tatababasco grape either by sniping it from far or by blending in with the toys and taking the opportunity xD
But a question pops in my mind ... If Sugar touches one of Robin's sprouted hands/legs/etc ... would that turn Robin into a toy ??:ninja:
-
Im pretty sure now that we will see sogeking soon enough, because it is much up to Usopp to do the next move now, and that would be perfect boost to his courage. It is also about time to hero show up and save the situation. Also, only then Trebol and Sugar would recognize her due to his wanted poster.
