I am so sorry Dryish but your post reads exactly like one of my ironic jokes
It's the little things, Holy. I'm a hopeless sap and if there's something that does, somehow, elicit an emotional response in me, you can be sure I'll go to my grave defending the value of that emotion and the things that draw it out. It has its tasteless sides, to be sure, but that's not everything.

I have learned from the master. Just you wait, one of these days I am actually going to catch you off guard by lulling you into a false sense of security upon the sight of my name and leave you a shattered ruin as I reveal that my entire existence was a fraudulent one.
Be prepared. It won't be fun otherwise.

For some reason or another I always felt that Holy and Dryish are like brothers

! I've hated my username since the day I created it. I picked it because it was so unlike me and would do away with stalkers >_> but every time I log in or people call me by my username, I cringe.
I know how you feel here. Kind of. I created my account here solely because I wanted to read chapter spoilers and so I just wanted to make a ridiculous username. But now that I actually post places, I regret it.

I can request a name change? What do I have to do, PM an admin?
But I'll never shave my neckbeard! Until I next have to look professional, at least :ninja:

Oh no, Jazzy "Uncle Kenny" Jinx hath spoken. It must be so.

Yes just PM me and as long as it's not something taken (or close to something taken) or offensive or too long, I'll change it. But ya only get one change as a general rule.

Speaking of being retarded as a teenager, there was a period of time in middle school where I genuinely thought I was some sort of spellcasting wizard.

Heh yeah. The anime is actually pretty endearing BTW, if you're not exclusively into shounen action subject matter.

So about a year ago I learned that "Nickelback is shit"
In the summer I learned that "listening to music in a language you don't know is weird"
And now I've learned that 'Linkin Park is emo"I'm so out of touch with the world . . .
-

Not even going to touch the other ones, but, what?
-
This week alone i've listened to Norweigan, Danish, French, Chinese and Spanish/Latin music
I see no problem with this, and most people seem to find it rather entertaining when i talk about it
-
@Panda:

Well a substantial number of people thought it was strange~
Maybe I'm not all that out of touch with the world on one count the :p
-
I have music (that I listen to) in dozens of languages. Well actually probably somewhere between 10 and 20. I don't care if people think I'm weird for that.

Do I detect the faint aroma of a challenge?! :silly: Yeah, no, I haven't got a number. But it's totally more then two or three though!

It's fun listening to tunein radio and trying to guess what you are listening to
Is it the Indian Britney Spears? Or the Chinese Aerosmith?
Only sad part about listening to Chinese music is that i have no way of finding out their names
-
Yeah no I wasn't trying to brag lol.
-
Honestly, more often than not, I don't really pay any attention to what the lyrics of a song are actually saying, so I really don't see where it would matter whether or not I could technically understand them.
-
It does somehow change the meaning of songs when you read the translated lyrics
I for instance had no idea so many reaggeton songs were about sweat dripping from sexy women at the club
-
Yeah no I wasn't trying to brag lol.
A likely story! As penance post a song sung in a language with fewer than a hundred thousand speakers! :silly:

I agree. There are a few types of songs (parodies being the obvious one that comes to mind) where I pay attention to the lyrics, but otherwise I expect them to either harmonize or help the flow, or otherwise be non-existent. It never bothers me when songs say stupid things (which allows me to enjoy a lot of rap) and conversely I don't tend to value songs more highly if they have some sort of deep message (which I probably never noticed). But I think I am (we are?) in a minority there. Speaking for myself, music is all about instrumentality and sound (chords, harmonies, instrument juxtaposition, melodic phrasing, rhythm, etc). I only appreciate vocals insofar as they add to that; the words being spoken are incidental at best to me (again, save for a few special categories like parody songs). In a sense I feel like lyrics detract from the purity of music, because they are beckoning me to focus on them instead of the musicality, and because they add a layer of message/meaning in which I have no interest.
But again I realize that's just my own personal narrow scope. I mean music elicits emotion, and you may want to combine that with a verbal message to change the way people experience it. It's just that unless it's a personal message for me (like if someone, dare I imagine, wrote me a love song :P ) then I pretty much just don't care.

Oh so now it's a contest about language obscurity? I don't think I have any stuff in languages with so few speakers. The closest is probably Icelandic, and I already posted Icelandic videos recently. :P

No it's penance for not bragging! Anyways, I'll do your penance for you then, that's really legitimate. Just so we are sure to be in the clear. :ninja:

A Thousand Suns, released in 2010.
It's not a masterpiece musically - as in even though their playing is fairly standard and not hugely creative or innovative it's nothing groundbreaking - but its strength lies in it being a good entity that has tracks buttressing one another both thematically and musically. It's not a incongruous compilation of songs that desperately try to sound good on their own like some of their past albums and way too many commercial rock albums these days, and while it follows only a quasi-logical thematic progression as far as its lyrics and the order of its songs go it doesn't feel jarring.
Obviously it wouldn't be Linkin Park if a few songs on that albums didn't have motifs that are downright questionable and lyrics that draw from the very base emotions and as a result get overly and stupidly aggressive and fear-mongering, but the ones that don't are the ones that carry it. The lighter, more secure and more interesting songs pretty much all use the emotion of hope as their driving force (heh, LP and hope?). No, it's not the most intellectual nor the deepest approach imaginable, but the lyrics of those few songs like Iridescent or Waiting For the End (not about what you might think it is) all have simple wisdom in them that is often what a person in an anxious and distressed state of mind can function with when they lack mental energy to do anything else. And it isn't accidental either, it clearly shows that Shinoda was actually using his brain for once, which I appreciate him for. It's very basic stuff, to be sure, but it's been a while since I've last seen or heard someone nail the basics down that well.
And if you necessarily find it reproachable to say good things about LP or are alerted by someone saying that they make music that is very good in comparison to other rock music, yeah, I haven't lost my mind. It's nowhere near as good as the really really good stuff is. The ones that hit higher highs make it seem like a waste of time in comparison. But compared to a big swathe of the commercial rock and metal music that you hear these days, it definitely does its job well. And that's why I like it so much.
I confess that since I read this recommendation like 2 hours ago I've been listening to "Waiting For The End" on repeat XD
-
It is good! Saved me from falling into a deep deep depression this summer and I know it'll forever have a place in my heart for that.
-
Wow I don't think I've listened to anything off that particular LP CD, I will have to look it up!!
I confess I am going to go on a murderous rampage if I don't get working internet, soon

thanks one side of me tries to convince whole me that I'm indeed that. With mixed effect. Sometimes that just isn't working and I feel like a lowly warm. I sometimes feel like there is no one, who could possibly like someone like me to be there. I feel that I must appear to fellow human beings like somebody incredibly cold, stupid, boring and weird.

That sounds like me! It used to bother me, but I came to embrace it, and once I took ownership of it, I've been a lot better.

Funny, because when you post here you seem really smart and interesting actually.
To a certain degree I feel the same way, but then I remember that humans are pretty self-centered creatures and other people don't really waste a lot of time thinking about me anyway. Helps me worry a lot less about being likable.

Yeah, I think everyone can relate to DarkFalcon.
At least on a forum full of intelligent people like this one.

Haha reminding myself of that has helped sometimes when I've done really stupid/embarrassing things.

I think I've realised via the people I've met today that my passion for things unrelated to my course at uni is actually much greater than that for what I am studying. Not that that's a problem in itself but I guess I was kinda taken aback by the passion people have for the things they are doing … for some reason it's completely difficult to the interest anyone seemed to have for what they were going to study from my school.
