Sorry, I am probably just ignorant, but I don't see what's wrong with expecting some hatred from other people.

I'm pretty sure everyone feels hatred, and I prefer it when people are honest about it, blunt or not.

There is something very wrong with that yes. Do not assume people's mental ableness, but also do not say terrible statements like "kill yourself" ever– it is not someone's fault if they are hurt over a very out of line phrase like that. I assume you're aware of the concept of interpretation, and I also assume you're aware of the fact that the written word doesn't not always have a literal intent. So, the recipient holds the power over interpretation, right? A random asshole's words don't have to mean anything if you dismiss the author as a random asshole.

Of course, not everyone is logically inclined, but I don't believe people should be afraid of writing what they feel like for fear of offending some type of person they're not even sure are currently around.

And, that random asshole could never be judged as such anyway, if the phrases labeling him that way were outlawed.

Everything you wrote makes sense, and I suppose I was wrong about the intelligent part as well. I was thinking in a knowledge bank sort of sense, but considering we're on the internet and everything, yeah maybe not.

But… I still can't grasp how Shipmate's post was offensive, at least overtly. It's not like it was the equivalent of a random blog post. However unwarranted it might have been, it still had some relevance.

And while you generally wouldn't post a wall of textbook if you were assuming everyone already knew what you were writing about, I don't see how that automatically equates instilling a sense of superiority.
