Get well soon, Oda.
Shueisha really needs to let Oda rest for a while.

well,he definitely has 3-4 chapters in his hand…..but it seems authors like to work with that cushion...that's why whenever they fall ill, mangas go on break..
The print schedule is three weeks ahead of the reader. The artist is not. The three weeks they're ahead of the reader is not a buffer, that's just how long it takes to print and ship. (And why we get leaks almost a week early.) In truth they're almost always going up to the edge of the deadline.
(I imagine a gag manga like Kochikame can have a couple standby chapters built up, but the ongoing stories really can't.)
@CCC:
For real.
From an earlier interview:
In a previous interview, Oda once described his usual workday: "I get up at 5am, and I work until 2am. It's normal for me to sleep from 2am to 5am." He added, "I have no days off. If I had them, I'd want to go on vacation with my family. I just want to go outside, it doesn't matter where. See, I don't get out much."
Damn, I knew he worked hard, but I didn't know he worked THAT hard. He really needs to take a good, well-deserved rest. I can go without One Piece for a while if it means he'll get better and enjoy some time for himself. Get better soon, Oda-sensei, and take it easy !
Get well soon Oda.
Get well Oda and take a good rest.
Hope he gets well soon

umm…i get it ...that means the chapter that was supposed to be for this week was submitted 3 weeks ago....then if he does 1 chapter/week,Oda has submitted 2 more chapters in between...but if they publish those,by the time Oda recovered they would run out of chapters for 2 weeks...so a break would be inevitable anyway...
Argh. Poor Oda!
The anime better go on a break too at this rate. Maybe soon we'll have one page of a chapter per episode….
I remember that I had to do a tonsils surgery when I was eight. Even with ice cream it was really frustrating to not be able to talk normally for some time.
Hoping Oda gets better and change his habits and manage to change his break times.
Get well soon, Oda!!
Get well soon, Oda.
BTW
Can we change the title name in the correct illness?
Please get well, Oda. Hope he gets lots of rest and relaxation.
By this time I guess Oda has already recovered and continue to draw Chapter 710.
Do your best, Oda.
Wow, that really sucks. Tonsil infections are no fun; add a hospital stay to that equation and it's just living hell.
Get well soon and have some well-deserved R&R, Oda-sensei!
Well, I guess that's a sign to quit while you're ahead.
He should end One Piece NOW!
Well, that sucks. Get well soon Oda. Coincidentally, Gummy Devil Fruit candy made it onto the Huffington Post today:

That's why I say he needs a month off.
Going straight back to the studio fresh out of hospital can't be fun. :(
Get well soon Oda.
He should take a month off instead of just 2 weeks.
Well this blows on multiple levels. Get well soon Oda!!
Tonsils are really bad, i've lost recently my cousin because of that, and she was pregnant on top of that, i hope he will get well soon, those tonsils are really dangerous!

If the news was announced in the magazine, then that means the news is also three weeks old.
If the news was announced on tv, then that means it just happened.
There is no magic buffer.
oh god the forums will dissolve into anarchy, we can't survive even one week
Remember the 4 week break, that was hell, but those of us who survived came out stronger.

Stronger to keep in memory those who didn't make it.

Wondering if there's some kind of commercial to this.

Actually, this is not necessarily true.
I've seen sudden announcements made and later be characterized to something recent.
But yeah, since this was a news on webpage, it's likely Oda indeed got sick this week or the last, and chapter 710 maybe at the office.
But that doesn't mean they'll go ahead and publish it, there's no point, as all it does is shift the break one week over.
For example, the TOC comments are much more recent than 3 weeks.
When Kubo went to Germany, the TOC comments reflected his visit only a week later.
Anyways… yes. There's no magic buffer. Unless you're Akimoto.
I'm extremely pissed at the circumstances, not the man himself.
Was kinda looking forward to it seeing how shit this week has been so far :/
Ah darn, no chapters for 2 weeks. Oh well, we can be patient.
The only thing I don't like about this kind of news is that people start acting like Oda is their personal friend the way they worry

Yeah, I assume the covers are printed last, while the interiors are done first. And color pages are done a week or two earlier than that.

He is. He's a friend to all with his imagination, stories, dedication, and heart.
Just because we don't chat with him doesn't mean we don't worry or care about him.

Because he is?
So is Michael Jackson. I was so depressed when he died. Since you know, he was a large chunk of my childhood.
So screw you, let us keep our imaginary celebrity friends.
I didn't realize there was a close personal friend requirment to worry about someones obviously poor health
Not that anybodys been saying that they're gonna come over to his place with chicken soup
Hope you don't work yourself into an early grave isn't that strongly loaded a sentiment. I'd offer that to my car mechanic if it looked like he needed the nod
Get Well ….
should take "month" off

Eiichiro Oda has given me one of the most exciting things weekly since I was about 10, now being 20 I have grown to respect the man in more ways than just the cause of personal enjoyment. He's the only person I idolize more than any other person aside from my mother. The influence that this story gives is phenomenal, and has literally gone beyond the point of criticism. It may be my opinion, but I still own it, and because of that I find it offensive when people say we shouldn't care about this man. He is history in the making and his manga will leave something children and adults alike for years to come. I hope he gets better end of story, I will be devastated if something bad ever happens to him. Not because my favorite literature/media/anything will be gone forever, but because the man who created it never was able to finish it for the whole world to see in completion.
Hell, he should take a year off, quit smoking, drink less, sleep more, and slowly work on the manga on the side and have a nice batch ready so that way he won't have to work as hard when he starts again.
Because he is?

I remember crying when I heard Diane died and I was like what 9 and obviously not acquainted with the British Royal Family at the time ?
Awwww… mannnn.... as soon as i saw this thread .. i googled the the thing .. looks painful.. :(
Get well Odacchi ..... Take a month break please... spend time with family & friends .. a breather should be must every now & then ..
Health is most important thing is life .. everything comes after .... i am saying this from personal experiences ... my father's health issues made me realise the truth of the proverb "Health is Wealth" ...
& coming to myself ... mann... two of my most favorite manga authors are having health issues... Tower of God's author SIU is also suffering from wrist problems ... & he too just announced 2 week break ... i heard a lot about Manga Authors health problems ... Hope that Odacchi will try to quit smoking & drinking ... :)
Oh man that isn't fun may Oda-sensei have a speedy recovery.
I wouldn't even blame him if he takes a brake for the whole summer. Maybe it wouldn't even be a bad idea.

As torturous as that would be for everyone, If he did, then good on him. But that won't happen because they'd loose alotta money…
well that sucks. Get well soon oda sensei (although if my understanding is right this happened either a week or two weeks or more ago meaning he's already better :ninja:)
Get well soon Oda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember the 4 week break, that was hell, but those of us who survived came out stronger.
I never said that…it's like I have a doppelganger here....META!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah quitting cigarettes will greatly improve his immune systems health, he really should look into that.
However, I hope he is okay after all this! He really should take a break, and even though he is probably in pain and what not, I hope he can somehow enjoy his time off!
Horrible news. Prayers go out to him and his fam. Oda, get lots of rest (and ice cream) and get well soon!

Oda is Nami
Please throw your desk out of the window for a month !
What if Oda gets cancer…? I'm not lying or trying to be funny.
I mean... He's seemed to be having various throat conditions in the last couple of months, and Oda smokes like a chimney. What if he develops throat cancer?
What if Oda becomes a robot?
Oda has quinsy? I hope Kubo isn't involved.
