One Piece 707: B Block
-
-
Well we all gotta sometimes.
just joking
I thought the characters were pretty cool, but I found the chapter sort of unsatisfactory overall too. Then again, this was the sort of pacing One Piece had before the time skip; I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
I bet these chapters will be a blast during a straight sit-down read, but on a weekly basis they leave a bit to be desired. This chapter lent itself to more speculation than the last one though.
-
my comment wasn't directed at you Half-Metal more towards earlier comments in the thread as I m still reading through and haven't even read a post from you in here yet.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Completely random but Barto's design makes me think of that movie the Lost Boys lol.
-
The two incogto gladiators are "Lucy" and "Ricky". Is Oda referencing "I Love Lucy"?
Maybe Ricky's real name begins with Ri
Rikyros
-
I don't know if anyone mentioned this here, but some people on Reddit have a good prediction: Bellamy has a Reject Dial from Skypea, his springs could absorve the dial's recoil and he is going to take the King's Punch.
Nobody else would willingly rush to protect the Coliseum and the Dressrosan people, so yeah maybe.
-

Hey, that's the prediction I made half-assedly in last weeks chapter thread. -w- Yeah, loads of other people have suggested it too though, specifically about King One-Punch. I was thinking those dials would suit Bellamy's style well, I just wasn't sure about it being a reject. Weren't those rare to the point of Wiper having the only one left?
-
Oh man, I loved this chapter, and not just because of Ricky. It's just nice to see so many side characters get developed.
-
Cool colorspread, but not my favorite. I dunno, maybe it's the rainbow along with the combat rainbow thing. But hey, at least they're finding time to hang out with Aokiji's penguin.
-
I'm always loving more spotlight for Robotnik. I'll take all I can get for him. But the details for Elizabello are actually pretty cool. One ridiculous punch every hour, and I wouldn't even mind if it actually was unbeatable. There's no way he'll be able to connect with it against someone with high mantra skills anyway. Of course, due to the nature of Dagama, I'm guessing it's going to be used for humor this time around. He'll probably wind up hitting Dagama on accident or something. Bellamy getting one shot by it could be amusing too, but that seems less likely.
-
Tank Lepanto wins the lamest named character of the chapter award. His purpose is to show what Bellamy grew from? Lol, poor guy. He reminds me of those guilty jury guys from Enies Lobby. Same weapon and build and all that, and doomed to be fodder. But hey, at least as a bonus he got to show off the out of bounds portion of the arena. I figured those things would be sharks, but mini fighting fish are way better. The design is neat, and it makes the real thing seem all the more intimidating.
-
I'm glad that Bellamy finally learned that he didn't have the "legs turn into springs" fruit. I've been itching for a simple spring powered punch. But Lepanto blocked it anyway. Bellamy should beat him easily, but getting blocked by that loser doesn't bode well for him in the long run.
-
Abdullah and Jeet, surrounding people so that they can stab them in the back. They've pretty much punched their ticket to loserville as well. Oh well, at least they have neat designs. But definitely in the lower rung of named characters in this tournament like Lepanto.
-
Hack is like the kind of guy that everyone wanted to randomly show up during Fishman Island. It's hard to say how strong he actually is, though. At least he seems competent. It's nice that Aladdin has some company now, for named Jinbe backup when Big Mom comes around. It's unfortunate that he didn't flash much personality and only had time to give his own flavor of the Fisher Tiger theme. But he'll be back, so I can hope that he'll find time to do it later. If things go the right way, he could even display some personality with Luffy in this arc.
-
Bluegilly has a pretty cool design to him. The Bruce Lee bit was expanded upon nicely, and it's cool to finally see a member of the long-leg tribe in the flesh. I figured they'd have double jointed legs like the long-arm tribe, but that idea always seemed pretty weird. But the thing that impresses me most is that his legs aren't just thin sticks like most characters. His thighs have some serious bulk to them. His martial art skills seem pretty cool too.
-
Ricky. Oh God Ricky. He's freaking Kyros? I went out of my way last week to point out how suspicious the guy was after I realized he was getting no love whatsoever around here. I guess a lot of people thought I was joking, but I really believed that he was very suspicious. And then Brennan and Vanessa gave me hell for it (haha, last laugh, sorry nessu). It was easy to stand firm, though, since Darkstorm and Robby helped me build the bandwagon. Truthfully, we expected more people to say that we were crazy, but there wasn't much of that. Anyway, I didn't really expect him to turn out to be Kyros, but looking back I probably should have considered it. I mean, this is literally the perfect venue for him to make an appearance, and there really weren't any other characters that could have wound up being him.
As for why I think he's Kyros, well, first there's the obvious stuff. Oda goes out of his way to tell us that he's a former gladiator, and the old guy in the audience seems to remember watching him fight but can't remember his name. That's just blatantly related to the stuff Rebecca was saying about him. I mean, an argument can be made that it's too obvious that we're supposed to think it's him. But then there's the fact that he's a legend. And if there's one thing that's true about legends, it's that Luffy always seems to write his own chapter into them. That feels especially true with this one after getting a chapter title like "Lucy and the statue of Kyros." But people forgetting about this guy is really strange, since the possibility that he never existed is pretty much toast now. I have a hard time coming up with explanations with that one. Some kind of amnesia DF or something?
-
Ok, Bartolomeo laying on the ground watching is pretty hilarious. But it is odd that nobody is bothering to attack him. I mean, I still don't expect the guy to win the entire block or anything, but I'm definitely warming up to him more. And not expecting a lot isn't really that bad of a thing. I don't expect much from Robotnik at all, and I freaking love that guy.
-
I'm warming up to Cavendish more now too. The thought of him stabbing wanted posters in his spare time cracks me up. And the fact that his fault face still sparkles is great. But that Don Chinjao, I dunno. I hoped for good things from him when I first saw him. And even now I like his design, and the fact that he has a connection to Garp. I'm interested in his country of origin too. But getting destroyed by Garp a long time ago and holding a deep grudge over it ever since is pretty fodder like. I guess that's one more guy that I'm interested in that I don't really expect anything from. There sure are a lot of those hanging around, but that's fine. I'm absolutely loving all of this side character development. How strong they actually are is chump change.
-
-
Bartolomeo was channeling his inner Moriah in this one…. I'm gonna say it was a decent chapter.
-
If Elizabello's punch is half worthy of the hype then I could see it being blocked via an impact dial or even Bellamy's df. Hell it might even just be avoided and used to devastate his own men like it accidentally hitting Dagama.

-_- Beaten by Urouge

Beaten by a punch, mind you.

Love the review Urouge.

Would be cool if Elizabello accidentally released it towards Diamante's way and the latter blocks it, greatly increasing his hype. Someone mentioned that here IIRC.
-
I never said I was disappointed. I am just saying that this chapter itself was just average to me. That's not a condemnation of Oda's work or his choice of story telling. I judge the chapters on an individual base. This one just didn't do it for me, aside from the interesting ending. If you liked this chapter, then that's awesome.
That's a dumb thing to do.

I don't remember anyone whining during the yawn inducing Punk Hazard action.
But we get some goofy Dragonball/Kinnikuman character fights with silly powers and lots of little faces and fun intrigue and in comes the whining! -
Seeing how things going about Luffy, i don't think that we will be able to see Block D fights.
Now we have 3 people who knows who Lucy is. And when Block C fights begins, Luffy identity can be unveiled to all the presents, maybe when by fighting his beard will drop out or Bellamy or Cavendish will accuse him, so that will provoke a strong reaction or an interruption of the Tournament (Perhaps even he can be disqualified because he lied about his identity) and things can turn veeery crazy.
-

Urouge, we've already seen a Longleg tribe member, his name was Baron Tamago.
-
ricky might be that bronze statue…
lol -
Dressrosa is going to be long as fuck isn't it.
Thank god it's so fucking cool! -
Looks like One Piece got its groove back. Took awhile after the slumps like Fishman island and Punk Hazard.
-
the begining and ending of fishman island were great but the main crux of the arc was a little slow punk hazard was friggen epic
anybody think bellamy and bartolomeu were only hyped to hype up ricky when he beats them -
I hope Ricky isn't Kyros.
Bellamy is showing is progress like I was expecting.
So long leg doesn't have three articulation.
I hope Daguma has a good plan because I can't see Diamente waiting 1 hour for that punch. I can't even see how they suppose to win the round. Pretty sure it would about destroying the ground or something rather than punching someone.
Whitebeard would tank that punch.
Hack is a 100th dan. I hope we get some good background with Jimbei.
I wonder why is Bartolomeo left alone.
I just love the beautiful captain.
Does the old dude talk about his grandson or not? -
Anyone who can't understand that most of these characters are going to be somewhat important to this arc must not know how Oda writes his manga.
-
The only ones in this block that I don't think will play another huge role would be Abdullah and Jeet, and Sexy Legs.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also the first time I read this, when I got to the part of the Fighting Fish, my first thought was:
What the hell. THAT'S A LITTLE FIGHTING FISH? My god - how big are the normal Fighting Fish then?
-
So long leg doesn't have three articulation.
Does NOBODY remember Tamago? This is the THIRD time.
!
-
I hope Daguma has a good plan because I can't see Diamente waiting 1 hour for that punch. I can't even see how they suppose to win the round.
I assume they're counting on time gap between rounds to allow him to charge up.
-

I just remember him having long legs. I never thought about checking such details.
-
Not much to comment on this chapter.
Bellamy seems in par with Tank (which i expect only a minor character), maybe slightly powerful, don't expect that he will win this block.
I vote on Bartolomeo to win this block.
Don Chinjao already met luffy in the waiting room but do not speak or seems to notice him.
Maybe he plan to test Luffy strength by making Cavendish fight him.
Even if Luffy won, he will be ruled out from the competition before the fight in Block C started. -
This post is deleted!
-
Maybe Ricky's real name begins with Ri
Rikyros
Richard Kyros would be a pretty neat name, lol.
-
This post is deleted!

-
Does that mean Cavendish is Griffith?
-
Has anyone ever mentioned that even if Bartolomeo wins he might be disqualified due to the fact that he fought with someone before the actual B block rumble? I know it was mentioned that fighting before the official fights began was prohibited.
-

No shame in losing to prime Garp. He was one of the top dogs of his era. If anything, I think their dialogue served as hype to his combat prowess. He know's who and how strong Luffy is and despite that can't wait to mix it up with him in the arena. He won't win, obviously, but I think he'll press Luffy harder than Hody or Caesar ever could, and that's enough for me.
-
Before this chapter I had wondered if Don Chinjao could (or at least would) even speak or not, since all he did before now was silently follow the other two he was with. He seems like an interesting character, and I'm glad to know he talks.
-
LOL @ Luffy blowing his cover so easily. That new big guy has a scary yet comical character design.
-
Urouge, we've already seen a Longleg tribe member, his name was Baron Tamago.
Ah, that's right. Not sure how that slipped my mind. The fact that someone actually has muscular legs must have surprised me more than I thought.

I'm not saying there's shame in losing to him, but what else is someone who's not that tough going to do? What gets me is the fact that he held a grudge over it for so long that was so deep that he's going after the guy's grandkids over it. That seems kinda whiny to me.
-
To his defense, he actually didn't outright say he's going after Luffy.
Just that after Garp nearly killing him he decided to keep a grudge for generations. The way he approached Luffy was pretty friendly and courteous, we don't know if he still feels the same way, or how serious he is.
-
thats a lot of slacking
only 20 pages till now.. -
@zeff:
thats a lot of slacking

Ah, so that is indeed what 孫子 implies, yeah? Not just "children and grandchildren" but "descendants" in general.
I was a little worried about that. :P -
Will Ricky (Kyros???) take the round or will it be one of the B's from B block (Belly and Bart)…
Or will Daruma's masterplan work (lol)!!!
Place your bet now in Championship gambling!!! Round 2 and show your deductive abilities…

I'm sure his demeanor towards Luffy will change once C-Block is up to fight. Grudge or not, he's there to win.
-
Meh chapter. I'll give Oda props for making me root for Bellamy though. Ending was the only part that really held my interest.
-
Damn it all, Luffy! And to think that he would be exposed during the fight, and not before.
-
I really hope Ricky isn't Kyros, and he is just a superfan or something. Would rather see more from either Barto or Bellamy, honestly.
-
Is it really funny? I've been trying to find new mangas or webtoons to read but I don't where to begin
It is really funny. Take a shot at Chapter 1
It's crazy:blink:.. literally! -

Same here. I'm hoping for more Bellamy.
-
Yeah, and you wished the blind man wasn't Fujitora either. LOL.
-
Two weeks so long :(
-
I have recently been wondering… Baby5 and Buffalo are both members of the DD family, right? Bellamy, however, is not, but wants to be. Is it because he is not strong enough, which is why he needs to proof his strength in the arena? Does that mean that Bellamy is about equally strong as Baby5 and buffalo, who both got pretty (excuse this) PWNED by Franky (and nami and Usopp)? Because then I don't think Bellamy stands a chance against the likings of say Bart, who took down a viceadmiral? maybe I have overlooked something, but I sorta seems unlogical ...
(I love how Oda has made everyone rooting for bellamy, though! I have no idea, how he can make a prick as Bellamy into a lovable character, whom everyone suddenly has an interest in :) -
Yeah, and you wished the blind man wasn't Fujitora either. LOL.
But this time my reason isn't stupid!
I don't care about the Fujitora thing anymore… He seems pretty interesting. Though I still hope his power isn't just "gravity".
