Chapter was short and boring. I always appreciate text/conversation over pictures. And I dont understand why Oda shows us so many characters, who will loose after first round anyway.
Goddamnit. its called world building! Its way of showing that the stakes are higher and that they are now in a completely different league where they are going to be dealing with Kings and Emperors. He has to show that the world doesn't revolve around the straw hats and that there are other people whom they have never met who have their own agendas and goals that this time have coincided with the strawhats goals.
Its bringing the world to life.
I'm sorry but I just had to reply to this. You don't really expect every chapter to have something "important" happen all the damn time don't you. Plus how can you say nothing important happens when we've just seen character progression for a character and also possibly got some hints that a new character is not what he seems to be.
Reading bits of a story weekly should at least tell you that not everything will be exciting super revelations all the god damn time. What would have happened for you to deem the chapter as not crap and something happening?
Probably something more than Barto talking to the crowd and Bellamy talking to Luffy for 3 pages. Just wasn't really that good. Had they started the fight and continued it, it would have been much better. Pacing was way too slow.

The chapter was too short and boring. Mainly was just Bellamy talking and Bart being a fag. It didn't even show the mysterious person on the ship. The pacing was slow, especially since there are like 7 different side plots that need to be covered. I hope the B block is finished next chapter.

Yeah…I'm not getting the logic some people have about there being "named fodder" You can't have a tournament without the announcers telling you who's gonna be fighting. Regardless if they get OHKO or not. You gotta at least pretend they are a threat. There will always be oponets in a tournament that fail immediately. And honestly Oda isn't that predictable, we don't know who will be relevant later or not. Just because we know Luffy is stronger than the vast majority if people he has come across recently we don't know enough at this point about other characters to say they'll get curb stomped right off the bat.
I really liked that the chapter just stuck with the tournament details instead of hoping plots. Those can come later after a fight or two in the tournament. Also...Geeze. I don't know how I feel about Bellamy being not a total asshat. He wasn't the most pure evil of villains, but he was a jerk and I gotta like when a jerk learns his lesson the hard way and becomes a better person for it. Never expected that pillar from Skypeia to ever be brought up again, that's kinda awesome actually.
All I can say is I want Cavendish to win his block lol...

If Jinbei's bounty rose to 400 mill, I'd think that Croc's'd be the same, if not more (given the fact that he has the propensity to organise crime rings, as opposed to Jinbei, who is an emancipator of slaves - I know that in the eyes of the WG, both of these things're crimes, however, I don't think that the Marine'd be able to say that Jinbei is actually more of a threat to world peace just because he commited a noble crime).

Bellamy and Rebecca both have a purpose in the tournament other than getting the Flame Flame Fruit and cause havoc. I don't know why in the world that makes them unlikelier to get through, when compared to Bartolomeo and Cavendish, whose goal doesn't even tie into the story other than "I want this fruit and go crazy with it".

Look at "Rolling Logan" in both pages. The upper page is from mangastream, the bottom page is from mangarule. I'm quite confused. In Stream and Panda's scanlation, the "Rolling Logan" in the background is clearly an /L/, while in Rule's version it looks like an /R/ or some other letter. Why is that?
This is exactly why Barto and Caven are more likely to advance. Outside of the tournament context, they're both purposeless. And if they lose now, they don't get to justify their relevance. Bellamy and Rebecca aren't bound to the tournament because of their connection with Dofla, meaning they don't get wasted even if they lose.

I liked the scene with Bellamy. Kind of. I liked that he learned his lesson, but it does seem like a big turn around for his character_._ We know everyone on Skypeia is ok, so that little bit of posturing was nice.
I liked the titular moment, but still. I don't like they Oda is seemingly trying to make us like this asshole. That said, he and Luffy need to fight again, so I'll be pissed if the Rookie guy wins.
As for everything else in this chapter…
My thoughts on this whole thing are well documented. No need to go through them all again. Needless to say, this chapter did not help my reservations.
Wait, what? How is Oda trying to make you like him? The man didn't believe in myths and dreams and he resented people like Luffy who(in his opinion) were wasting they lives on such nonsense. Then he goes to a sky island and holy crap all that shit was real meaning that he was the fool and so he had to re evaluate his values. Which means that he can no longer mock people who have dream example, Luffy.
Plus, I think he decided to try and go to skypeia(sp?) when Dofla told him that he(bellamy) was the fool for mocking other people's ambition.
Again back then, it was shown that Bellamy looked up to Doflamingo, respected him and believed in Doflamingo's dream of a new era. Now he has is trying to prove that he belongs in this era and by Doflamingos side.
All this seems natural and not an attempt by the author to make you like him. Also bellamy has attacked various countries for insulting Dressrosa so he's not all innocent(although Roger apparently used to do something similar)
Damn, I wanted Rebecca to at least win her block since she's the only woman here (and One Piece really lacks strong female characters), but Cavendish is too great to be wasted. GO CAVENDISH !!!

I wouldn't rule out Rebecca winning her Block. I am sure Rebecca will be taken out of the tournament by someone who will completely enrage Luffy and make him want to avenge her. So, unless Cavendish is much worse than meets the eye, I believe Rebecca will be taken out by one of Doffy men in the second round.
But I still hope I am wrong. I am all for Jesus/Bartolomeo/Lucy/Cavendish in the next round.
I'm really curious about what Bellamy did to the Skypeians. His saying "What, indeed" made it seem significant. What happened to his crew and why is he trying to get onto DoFla's ship. I'm hoping for some backstory for him. He's more interesting than the new characters in this arc, I think.
Can't wait for follow ups on the other Straw Hats. I feel like this could turn out to be a great arc if it has been well planned-out. Could lead to interesting and significant things.

Yes. Definitely. The name of the chapter is "I won't laugh at you" which is what Bellamy was known for doing throughout the Skypeia arc. Now, he believes in dreams and ambition. Really great way to develop the character, I think.

I'm placing my money on Cavendish. And Bellamy; he has purpose, I just can't see him losing to Bart, even if Bart looks more badass, Bellamy has more going for him in terms of character. Regardless, the character that loses will still probably play a factor in the story. Remember, we have many 'scenes' going on, and a loser can easily leave the Colosseum and join a different scene.

Damn, what a first class redemption he has done there. He actually went to the sky and stole a golden pillar(I bet it's the same pillar with the one that the skypieans intended to give to strawhats), instead of raging storm he's been through (losing his nakama and stuff).

Well I must say that One Piece is worse than Fairy Tail's tournament in creating 100 people out of nowhere and having them become nobodies seconds later.
I mean only 4 people advance, and we have gotten how many new names. At least fairy tail showed most everyone in a semi small battle or some game at least.
Not sure why Oda is bothering with everyones name. I really hope he doesn't try and flesh these guys out and include them much into the story or future arcs. We have way too damn many characters as is that have to yet be dealt with and expanded upon. Not to mention others pirates/bounty hunters/marines ect we have yet to meet or citizens of new world islands, ect.

Am I the only one failing to see Bellamy reedeming himself? I mean, granted he is not laughing at Luffy anymore, but wasn't that expected since he was always a guy who thought bounties meant everything (and Luffy has a HUGE bounty nowadays)?
I am not saying he is the same guy as ever, I wouldn't be surprise if we discover Gunfall acted as a real god and Bellamy had a revelation in Skypiea, who knows? I am just saying that nothing in this chapter actually points to him not being so different as everyone is claiming except for him saying so (with a maniac face, though).

This so badly! I already feel bad for skypiens. Mean guy after another destroying their beatiful country. Shandian's history was one of the most touching stories. I really thought Oda gave them peace
