One Piece 705: Maynard "The Pursuer"
-
-
Wow, what a chapter! CP0, Fujitora (real position revealed though it was already speculated) and Barthy.
The wasy Fujitora told that marine to record the population, it seems as if he has the same outlook as Akainu, absolute justice and from the feeling I have I think they may initiate a buster call. I mean why count all the civilians not the enemies? That way its easier to say x amount of lives were lost on the Dressrosa incident all enemies were eradicated though.
Can't wait to see Luffy fight.
-
- I'm hoping for a new bounties too. Its about god damn time! Bounties rise (or first time showing for crew) are one of the most baddass moments in OP :D
- Sanji using CoO? Why is it always CoO whenever character does anything. I don't see any sign of Sanji using CoO, not saying it wasn't it but still. When Zoro noticed fairy with the page at his reaction looked much more likely to be CoO to me. Maybe i wrong dunno :P
Maybe it wasn't. I just noticed that "zap" next to Sanji's head and assumed it was the same thing as when Tashigi used it and Zoro as well. It was a sniper high up on the roof top after all.
Still, looking at the scene I don't understand it. Sanji seemed to already be flying while in the gunners sight, yet a moment later he is looking down on someone else, which I thought was Sanji and violet at first. In my head I played that scene around backwards. First the far off shot, then Sanji flies, then Sanji kicks.
-
When it says Marine HQ Vice-Admiral Maynard, does that mean he's stationed at the HQ? Or is that the full title for any Vice-Admiral?

oh man, last chapter i thought this arc would be monumental, and after this it seems more and more so to be true. I think this arc might be the longest one to date…actually it might not even be "one arc" at one time.
the marines and their sect
cp0 and their sect
Doflamingo and his sect
jesus
bartolomeu
rebecca
the numerous "miscellaneou" countries
violet
kanjuro
fairies
green bit's mystery
and any others i might have missed.Oda has separated it so far into 6 Big Scenes but i definitely see more, maybe 9 or 10 different scenes total. Franky will go his way and a possible split of nami's team (less likely) and law's team (a bit more likely) and cp0's objectives.
oh man, my nether regions are tingling just thinking about it.
edit: forgot to put this but skypiea arc was 66 chapters, alabasta was 63 chapters… i think this might hit over 80 chapters. i could seriously see it.
-
Some scenes felt a little bit short this week, but I liked it nonetheless.
- Weird chapter title, if you think about what actually happens in the chapter. Although Oda could trick us here…the name Maynard in itself should promise something...
- Also weird how little we saw of Jesus Burgess after his reveal last chapter...
- Why did the one-legged soldier follow Franky? Well, I like him anyways and seems like he knows something.
- Don't say shit about the Donquixote Family!
- Why did Ganbia's introduction need so much space if he gets trashed next page? Other scenes could have used that panel time.
- Fujitora seems rather reasonable, while Maynard doesn't. I also think Fujitora looks even better with his coat on.
- Caesar with a moustache. _ Law also looks rather hilarious.
- CP-0! I already thought about that there could be some CP for the New World. Could have also been the CP8 seeing how we didn't see any members back then on the sea train. But yeah, I enjoy that reveal quite much and the members look pretty pimp. They obviously should have something to do with Doflamingo, because the man in the middle looks like the one Donquixote talked to after fighting Moriah.
- The Zoro plot left out quite a bit with Zoro actually finding the fairy and chasing her up the house. But after his reaction I guess the fairy looks nothing like we would imagine as one such.
- Oh god, the design of the guy that talks to Kinemon is cool alone. I don't think he was one of the spectators we saw watching Caesar's experiment though, or was he?
- So was the sniper the one Sanji should kill? He was a member of Doflamingo at least, so Violet is pretty much confirmed to be an actual support character and not a villain.
- I wonder where Chopper got this different hat from e. g.? Kinemon was not there anymore, before they changed to this attire...
- I think the ones on the Sunny will belong to the fairies (stealing stuff and such...).
- Wow, a Vice Admiral trashed. That's quite some hype for Balto Romeo. So I guess he will win Round B. That leaves Luffy for round C and Rebecca & Cavendish will have to battle out who wins round D.
- But goddamn, how many things are there to keep track of? We have Cavendish, Balto Romeo, Rebecca, Kyros, Franky's search for the factory together with the one-legged soldier, the living toys, the fairies, Sanji & Violet, Fujitora & the marines, Jesus Burgess, Bellamy, CP0 and the Green Bit part. Oh, does anyone remember by the way that we have Doflamingo and his men on this island?
I hope Oda can coordinate all of this and can resolve all of these plot threads in the end.
-
I kid, I kid. However, there is a double issue coming up soon, I think issue 22/23 is it.
So after this chapter, we should have two more chapter before the one week break, given that Oda doesn't take a break of his own.But we'll get that issue next wednesday, right? So one more chapter before the break.
-
CP0 makes 200% sense when you remember that the word "cipher" is actually derived from the old word for zero.
I've ran the numbers. The math checks out.
-
@The:
There was a chapter named after Monet (maybe more), and in the end, it turned out she was a complete pushover.
She got scared crapless by Zoro, then got 1-shot by Tashigi; FREAKING TASHIGI. Heck… She even failed to blow up the facility.
To be fair, Monet was stronger than Tashigi. Zoro basically saved her life and then afterwards put Monet in a static state of shock where she couldn't move and was completely defensively, basically the One Piece version of handing someone on a platter to take care of.
-
Awesome chapter. Finaly confirmed that the WG could not have it's strongest Cipher Pol be able to be taken down by Luffy at that stage.
-
The Monet thing is a good point…..but still, why would Oda name the chapter after Maynard? If he really was fodder, naming it "Cipher Pol 0" or something equally revelant would've been more fitting.
I dunno, I think we haven't seen the last of him.
-
But we'll get that issue next wednesday, right? So one more chapter before the break.
In that very quote of his Aohige says that we should have two more chapters before the break and you ask that again?
-
Huh these forums are acting a bit wonky aren't they? Geez, could Oda possibly have packed this chapter with any more though!? Just amazing, that he can bring in all these different plot points, can't wait to see how they'll all come together. It was really obvious that blind guy was Fujitora, but glad it's spelled out anyway. Huh, he doesn't seem like too bad a guy either, at least not at first glance. I don't think he really has the same ideals as Akainu at least. CP0, some sort of fighting fish, this new rookie who took on an undercover vice admiral…damn is this arc shaping up nicely!I don't see why people are complaining about how Nami is around Momo though, I thought the whole impression from this chapter is that chopper and her were doing it so the kid didn't feel bad. Not to mention the entirety of punk hazard how it was clearly shown Nami's got a bit of a soft spot for kids. Point is, I don't think he's necessarily tricking her at all.
-
btw mangarule's version of the chapter is up but I can't access the reader. Here's the link anyway
http://mangarule.altervista.org/blog/blog/ -
This chapter was really confusing. So it looked like Zoro was the one that jumped off the building and landed but the bubbles made it seem like someone else was talking about Zoro. And also the whole Bartolomeo and Capman parts. So it looked like Capman originally beat up/killed Bartolomeo but then at the end it showed Capman lying beat up/dead. Could anyone help me figure out what was going on with those? And this chapter gave quite a lot of exposition but no real conclusions. Everything cut off in the middle of events. I do like that the old man is Fujitora though. That was something nice that was revealed.
Also I hate mangapanda's scans.
-
Seeing Luffy owning Bellamy again would be nice :)
Not sure about Rebecca getting through and Cavendish not. He seems to be quite interesting person and his grudge can make for funny interactions later on. I think that Rebecca will lose as some people already predicted before and she will entrust Luffy to win, so he wins and gives her fruit (not sure 'bout fruit part xD). I hope Cavendish fights someone that he hates - one of supernova :D Very probably to happy imo. As for Capman or Bartolomeo - seems like Capman is out of the game. Thats weird that VA got owned so easily even though chapter was named after him, but ow well, i don't see him faking being owned tbh…
Seems like there will be very interesting things going on at Green Bit. Law/SH vs DF vs Marines, how will it play out?
Watching Kid slaughter him would be pretty hysterical.
-
In that very quote of his Aohige says that we should have two more chapters before the break and you ask that again?
This chapter comes out next monday (15th). The one we get next wednesday comes out on the 22nd. 29th is already Golden Week = break. Or does the magazine take a break after GW?
-
Nami so hot. Momo, you bastard.
-

I am pretty sure that it's safe to assume that each time someone does something supernatural that is related to detecting actions of living creatures, when it comes to Zoro and Sanji, that they are in fact using CoO (like both of your examples). We've seen both Sanji and Zoro using CoO without issues, so I think we just have to accept that this is now becoming every-day stuff for these guys.
-
About naming the chapter with the name of a character that is done in the end of it… Wow, is quite obvious. The chapter is not about Maynard. It's about Bartolomeo. It's just to show him using a twist/in a interesting way.
-

Capman beat one of Barto's men, not Barto himself. Basto then took him down and he is still drawn in black, likely to be shown off next week in the Group B battle.
-
Holy shit, this is one hell of a build up chapter! O_o
First we got Fujitora, then a 1st division commander of the blackbeard pirates, then a powerful ass rookie, now we even got CP0!? Not mention that the strawhats still have Doflamingo to deal with!
This arc is freaking awesome so far! :D

She got scared crapless by Zoro, then got 1-shot by Tashigi; FREAKING TASHIGI. Heck… She even failed to blow up the facility.
Monet appeared in more than one chapter. She may be weaker than the Strawhats but she wasn't a total pushover or they could have swatted her the first time she appeared in front of the crew & kids. She was just weaker than the SHs. She still gave them trouble, enough that it was Zoro and Tashigi (who both have haki) that finished her off. In a way you just proved my point = We WILL be seeing more of VA Maynard, and that there is more to see of him. That is I was try to say, not that he is not weaker than Barto boy. Some people were writing Maynard off as if that is all to see of him, I am pointing out that he will appear again and isn't as weak as he appears. Yes, I do think he would not stand up to the Strawhats but he's not a weakling. We need to remember that the Strawhats have been portrayed in a class of "DAYUM! that entire crew are monsters compared to the average pirate!" so yeah they WILL be stronger than some marines, even VAs. Heck for all we know, there could be a personality quirk .. like Garp. Remember when Garp got cut by Axe-hand Morgan who was able to then escape? ..it was because Garp fell asleep! Yeah that chance is rare but Oda has done it.
-

Could be. I think people (myself included) are reading too much into it.

This chapter comes out next monday (15th). The one we get next wednesday comes out on the 22nd. 29th is already Golden Week = break. Or does the magazine take a break after GW?
It'll most likely go like this:
April 17th: We get a chapter
April 24th: We don't get a chapter because of Golden Week
May 1st: We get a chapter. -
Soooo confused after reading the mangapanda version
-
Anyone else think DoFla faked leaving the Schichibukai? Given his stature as a king and position as schichibukai I'm pretty sure he could pull some strings (no pun intended) to make it believable.
-
Anyone else think DoFla faked leaving the Schichibukai? Given his stature as a king and position as schichibukai I'm pretty sure he could pull some strings (no pun intended) to make it believable.
It's possible.
I mean… Law's plan WILL go wrong somewhere, possibly terribly wrong. Either the main SMILE Factory not being on Dressrosa (instead being on Kaido's "capital island"), underestimating Yonko Kaido and his crew and overestimating the alliance success chance etc.
People who think otherwise, people who think Law is perfection, are fooling themselves and are in for a letdown.

oda is just a troll
also by naming the chapter by the fodder vice admiral, balto romeo exploit is even more surprising

Double issues usually covers the following week.
This chapter (705) is published in issue 20.
Issue 22/23 will probably be published the Saturday of prior week, meaning the 27th. Is what I'm guessing. So,
issue 20 - 4/15 (One Piece 705)
issue 21 - 4/22 (One Piece 706)
issue 22/23 - 4/27 (One Piece 707)
issue 24 - 5/13 (One Piece 708)Is my guess.
Unless Oda takes a break separate from WSJ's schedule, but let's hope not.
-

we were present at the reunion were they were talking about his resignation.
also, after smoker's report he would have been kicked out of the shichibukai anyway -
@Dan:
You have no idea if fujitora was retired or not, or why they promoted him the first place. Hell maybe the WG mandated it be specifically him, whatever his circumstances were beforehand, to balance out Akainu's idea of Justice.
yeah i don't know, its an assumption, but lets thing about it. If he wasnt retired then who was he before? He wasn't VA so was he lower rank then raise to power so quickly? Doesn't seem likely, not at all. Was he at some kind of special secret force that wasn't shown at marineford? Maybe but that doesn't seem that likely to me. I say chances that he's retired marine is much bigger. If there was any VA powerfull enough for Admiral rank he would would be Admiral now.
-
The chapter title is just an huge red herring. It's like Oda said to us "Hey look how strong and important this new character is ! Oh snap, Bartolomeo off-paneled him… just how strong this Bartolomeo guy can be ?!! cliffhanger"
-
Anyone else think DoFla faked leaving the Schichibukai? Given his stature as a king and position as schichibukai I'm pretty sure he could pull some strings (no pun intended) to make it believable.
Considering the marines are about to intervene in the tournament, which they wouldn't be allowed to otherwise, I believe he did quit for real. Besides, the whole point with the shichi is reputation, and media printing it and Dofla secretly remaining shichi would be pointless
-
CP0 makes 200% sense when you remember that the word "cipher" is actually derived from the old word for zero.
I don't have a problem with their name.
I have a problem that despite all the Cipher Pol talk back in Water 7, when we were learning who they were, there wasn't even a mention of Cipher Pol 0. They're apparently not a secret mysterious CP like CP9 was, so why didn't we learn about them earlier. That would have been some good foreshadowing and build up.
-
Isn't it obvious? Fujitora is the childhood or simply longtime friend of Akainu, the person who tries to keep him level-headed and cool. Kinda-sorta a Garp <> Sengoku relationship.
Just a prediction, of course.
-
And I really enjoy how there's so many interesting characters introduced in this arc. It gives me this feeling of a very lively, loud, crowded place (especially in contrast to Punk Hazard) A lot of strong people walking around, not just blurred crowd, this is how i imagined NW; and pace is not affected by that at all - at least imo
I still wonder how luffy will handle fighting without revealing who he is… and red hawk is forbidden :cAlready love this arc
-

Yeah, that's possible im not saying it isnt :) Its just weird that every action like that seems to be CoO and before timeskip they could do the same things and it was just their good hearings/eyesight/reflex/whatever nothing haki related ;p

Ah, okay. So should we expect 707 around monday/tuesday, since it comes out earlier than usual?

This is true, but…..maybe they were formed during the timeskip? Or not? shrug
I personally don't have a problem with them coming out of the blue (at least nothing was said to the contrary), but I do think there should've been some little hints along the way.
anyone knows what aegis means?
It's the same name of a famous shield in Greek myths.
-
No doubts Lucy will meet Bellamy who will recognize him by the punch. Things will start going mad after this.
It'd be nice.
-
-

I dunno, I think we haven't seen the last of him.
He wasn't fodder, he just wasn't amazingly strong.
The reason the chapter was named after him is simple. It was an to attempt and catch us off gaurd and have an awesome moment, and for hyping purposes. If we see the chapter is named after a character, and then he's made to look like this badass, effortlessly taking out a pirate of some note, what are we supposed to think? "This guy is impressive, and if he even gets a chapter named after he must be sure strong and plot relevant!" BUT NOPE. TWIST. Barto utterly steals his sole in a moment that is designed to both surprise us and create massive hype around this guy. And for my money, it worked. Job well done.

Sorry wrong thread LOL

Well we don't know if they're mysterious or not, Robin spent two years with the Revolutionaries and Law became a Shichibukai, so it's possible this shit isn't public knowledge.
Also, do the Cipher Pol agents just go around in ridiculous costumes on every mission and it just happened to be appropriate at Water 7 ? Or are these their real faces and it'll be a joke later ?

God… I really do love Fujitora. My favorite Admiral by far.
I like his seemingly kind personality.
I like his character design, and the influence for it.
I like his apparent Devil Fruit ability (and that it isn't a Logia). So, so good.
