@Lorce:
Well yeah now I do… I actually used to be crazy about it before Shipuuden but then things just got too repetitive... but I meant eye powers in general now, cos so many mangas have something to do with eyes, even if it's not a power but unique eyes like one is red,or they turn blue or stuff like that and it's just used too much... choose a different body part for once please like errrr the pinky toe! :p
Yeah well I guess nowadays some mangas just find it so hard to be original :/ that's why I really liked mangas like Sensei No Bulge or Takamagahara which were ended so early :/ but there's still hope in some new one like One Punch Man for obvious reasons and I guess AssClass is good for comic relief but One Piece is my top atm, with HxH of course :p then there are some which I have just bookmarked for later because I'm not sure if I wanna read them or not but now that I think about it, even with my huge critic list, I actually read ALOT of mangas... Vagabond, Tough, The Breaker, Oroborous, Hammer Session, Gambler Fish, Green Blood, ReMember, Ganz, Buster Keel... the list goes on :p
@Archie:
Mangas should try and stay original, I agree, and I try not to let that get in the way of how I feel about it, but if it's the same old same old, it does get very annoying. That's part of why I spend most my time on the same ones like One Piece (will always be my favorite), DBZ, Naruto (though I know it will get old fast), and Bleach. After I finish DBZ I might throw in some newer ones I haven't tried before it's kind of hard to break away from my cycle, and I go into withdrawal if I don't go through all of One Piece's anime every 6 months. I need to shake things up, they're getting to static, I'm certainly up in the air for new mangas/animes.
You guys realize there's new volumes of over 1000 titles being released every month in Japan, right?
You may want to venture away from "big popular shounen manga", because Japan is NEVER in lack of variety and originality.
Did you know there's a popular series running in Sunday about CATTLE FARMING?
Did you know there's a popular manga running in Monthly Big Comic Spirits where entire manga is composed of nothing but "images of a girl eating delicious food"?
Did you know there's a popular manga about Jesus Christ and Buddha living in an apartment in Japan as young, eccentric hipsters?
Did you know there's a popular manga about conspiracies of TV medium, ties with Yakuza, and a beautiful news caster protagonist being the mastermind behind it all?
Did you know there's a long running popular manga about a vigilante swindler who only swindle other professional swindlers, exacting revenge and justice on them?
Guys, the list can go on for hundreds of lines. And I'm not even exaggerating.
These are just the current manga, if I include the last fifty years of manga, the list would be counted in thousands.
Every single time I see someone complaining about lack of variety, it's the same focus on "but but but it's not running in Jump! So it must not exist!"
Blame the English speaking fan communities for feverishly only focusing on "popular big shounen titles", neglecting vast majority of the market out there.
