This movie…god damn it was fantastic.
By the time I walked out of the theatre I was gushing about every awesome moment along with my twelve year old brother.
And every moment was friggin' awesome!
Not only that, I'm pretty damn sure I'm a fan of the Hulk now, who almost stole the whole damn show.
A character I was always sort of meh about.

I saw it and my inner fanboy came. Hard.
The Avengers lived up to my expectations and practically exceeded them.
I don't want to post any spoilers, but the pure chemistry between the characters, especially Stark and Cap, was fantastic. For me, that was something I was looking forward to more than the story, which itself was okay.
The audience was cheering and applauding like crazy, almost to the point that it was hard to hear some of the lines in the movie.
My only big complaint would be that! Evans never said "Avengers ASSEMBLE!!!", not once. FUCK!!!
Short story, I loved the movie. And I'm going to see it again tomorrow. Rarely has there ever been a movie that makes me want to see multiple times.
Christopher Nolan better step his game up. (which I know he will)9.5/10
Also,
! DAT POST CREDIT SCENE.

FINALLY, I can come in here and read what's behind the spoiler tags! 8D
I just got back from the movie a few minutes ago. Pretty much every showing at my theater tonight was sold out. And considering how F***ing amazing this movie was, I suspect it's gonna be that way for awhile. Honestly, there's way too much for me to fangirl over in this thing; I'd have some serious block-text going on in here.
I will say a few things though; every single main character got their badass moments. As is deserved, and as I was saying to my friend, not only was it all well done, it was done in a plausible way. Yes it's all comic book fantasy, but it didn't feel totally out of reach either. I also take back any worries I had re: ScarJo, she made one badass Black Widow in this sucker.
A few other things plot-related that I'll put into spoilers:
! My friend is a total Jeremy Renner stan, and they didn't like his part in the film. "He didn't talk enough! Why is he stuck with the bad guys while everyone else is together?!" I figured it's because we haven't met/seen him as much as the others, and we needed a reason to feel for him; being brainwashed and attacking/killing your own men? That'll do it. But every scene he was in had him as a total BAMF and his part in the final battle was an excellent use for his skills.
! And am I the only one who thinks Agent Coulson isn't actually dead? The scene with Maria, Fury and the cards being from Coulson's locker, not his suit pocket? I wouldn't put it past Fury to lie in order to give the Avengers the 'push' they needed.
! Sooooo many quoteable lines in this movie, it's impossible to choose just one. But I have to say, I really loved the delivery of Bruce Banner's line: "That's my trick Captain…I'm always angry." That one was pretty powerful for me.! Evans never said "Avengers ASSEMBLE!!!", not once. FUCK!!!
! Well how else are they gonna get 'em all together in Avengers 2? ;D
-
[poop]The best bit about the movie was when that guy did that thing, and then the other guys were like WOAH! And then all kinds of stuff went splorsh and stuff. That was awesome.[poop]
-
This movie was AMAZINGLY EPIC!
VERY Rarely has a movie so readily delivered on and exceeded all of my expectations like this. Really, The Dark Knight is the only other one, and some people are going to cry blasphemy but I think this Movie is better overall just as a superhero flick and a fun flick. TDK was amazing but it was very dramatic, there wasn't a whole lot of funny in it. This movie had it ALLMy favorite bits were:
! Everything with Coulson. His death was epic, but I loved all that he got to do here.
Loki was one evil sunuvabitch, Tom Hiddleston NAILED it.
Pretty much everyone's character interactions, especially Tony - Steve and Tony - Bruce.
The part where Steve started giving the orders like a true leader was amazing. And the Hulk stole the damn show
! Loki: I AM A GOD! AND YOU WIL-
Hulk grabs Loki and proceeds to play a game of Whack-a-Mole with him as the malletAnd also, TOTALLY CALLED the first after-credits scene.
! I told all my friends a couple of weeks ago "The Aliens' armor on the toys looks gold and very Thanos-esque, I bet Thanos is really the main guy pulling the strings in the shadows and Loki is basically a Pawn."
It's awesome when you end up being right.I have to move this weekend, but next weekend I'm seeing this movie again. I mean god damn WOW!
I hope we get Giant Man/Ant Man and Black Panther in the near future, they'd be good additions to the team I think. -
I am amazed by the amount of positive feedbacks.
I might be tempted to go see it. I ussually want a good action flick to:
- Hold the camera still.
- Don't cut too much otherwise I won't know what is going on.
- Not too much explosions and build it up.
- Decent and fun plot with great acting and humor.
- Less cgi the better.
-
Just got back from seeing it for the second time in as many nights, and its just as fantastic as it was the first time through.
However, I do have one legitimate complaint now, but it's not really that big: Captain America's new uniform. Now, they don't seem that different, but for some reason the redesign just doesn't fully gel with me. It looks a bit too comical.
Minor stuff.
Also, like said earlier, the plot itself is kinda meh, but this is a character film, not a plot one, so that really doesn't matter either.
-
I think this version of the hulk is by far the best one weve gotten in a movie yet, he looked great and true to the comic interpretation. I wish they would have made hawkeye look a bit more like his comic counterpart, i know his mask would look ridiculous in real life (although caps looks ok) but i think they could have at least given him a hood or something.
-
Honestly if they have
! Thanos in the sequel please give me something close to this
!
-
I'm sure they'll hew close to that comic story since… that's kind of the most famous one with that character.
ANd one of Cap's best moments as well.
-
Honestly if they have
! Thanos in the sequel please give me something close to this
! http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3841/751/1600/Cap01.jpg
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3841/751/1600/Cap02.jpg
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3841/751/1600/Cap03.jpg! That scene is awesome. But having reread it lately, hope they leave the Infinity Gauntlet out of the sequel. Not sure an "I'm omnipotent but will give you the means to defeat me because of my self-esteem or something like that!" will make the most satisfying of endings in a movie.
-
I don't know about you guys, but I don't feel like there was anything to exceed my expectations in this.
It was like, the standard default of what a superhero movie should be and it never really rose above that. This entire movie was what I would have expected. Maybe superhero movies have just been that bad where this is the kind of movie we need to represent a genre, but I don't know.
I was thinking there was going to be more to this.
I thought it was okay and it was a good movie.
There were a lot of little moments and things such as
! The aforementioned Cap's shield deflecting a laser teamwork thing
That made it a little more special, but i don't know
I just… kind of expect any good movie to contain that when it features six superdudes hanging.
Granted, this is like, the first one? First good one?
-
@Nex:

They kinda handwaved that tho by the offhand comment that Coulson was the one who re-designed it. Being the fanboy that he was (was I the only one who got gay vibes from him? Even later when Tony was asked if Coulson had a wife, he answered vaguely) I fully understand that it is this cheezy spandex suit.
-
did anyone else want less SHIELD more Avengers because I honestly felt like it was thinned and it left a bad taste in my mouth. so much of the movie was driven less by the characters and more by SHIELD and Loki and that was what bummed me out when everybody told me this was a character-driven movie.
Because it wasn't really as much as I wanted it to be.
I get SHIELD is like the backbone, but fuck, Black Widow and Hawkeye bored the shit out of me and so did NICK FURY somehow? I just want Iron Man, Thor, Cap, and Hulk to fucking HULK OUT and be the Avengers
And avenge shit.
And as much as people say that they did, they didn't do enough of it.
This was the SHIELD movie and I wanted the AVENGERS movie.
This was the prequel to the Avengers movie imho
I'm witholding praise until I get two full solid hours of Hulk hulking out without any shitty plot wasting its time in my face when I could be getting hulkouts
the REAL Avengers movie should just be Nick Fury saying YO GO HULK THAT SHIT and Banner is like
YOU WON'T HULK ME WHEN I'M HULKY
and Cap and Iron Man slap each other and Thor laughs and we all have a good time. And it's that for six hours. And Black Widow doesn't exist anymore.
-

I'm pretty sure that vagueness was more because Stark doesn't really know Coulson all that well as a person despite having associated with him for a much longer time than the rest of the team. Tony didn't even know his first name until Pepper said it.
And I really enjoyed this film; Captain America is probably still my favorite of this series of films, but this was a pretty awesome work. Shame that they didn't get Giant Man in on this as he and the Wasp were part of the initial set, but that's a minor quibble.
-
This movie is just….beyond words...I've been waiting for this since Iron Man came out.
I thought this was part was the most hilarious:!
and this spoof was hilarious:!
-
Love love loved this movie. It was pretty much perfect.
-
Saw the movie. Absolutely phenomenal movie. This actually may be the first time I'll be tempted to see a movie twice in theaters.
! I love how all of the heroes got their moments of awesomeness. Cap pummeling a bunch of aliens in front of that cop who doubted him, Iron Man's self-sacrifice, Hawkeye shooting an alien ship without even looking at it, and, as everyone has said, Hulk had the best damn scene(s) in the whole damn movie. I guess the only one who didn't get a truly awesome moment was Thor, although he did have that line about Loki being adopted, so…
! Now, all that being said, I have to admit I had a few gripes with this movie:
-Maybe I was expecting too much, but I wish they had done a bit more with Hawkeye. He didn't have as many badass moments and awesome lines as the others and I had some trouble getting invested in his character.
-That really was kind of a dick move by Nick Fury with him lying about the trading cards. I mean, was that really Coulson's blood? I get what he was trying to do, but that's kind of messed up.
-Loki did become kind of a wimp after the climax. Wish there could have at least been one final showdown with him.
! But, those minor gripes aside, this was still an excellent excellent movie and I can't wait to see it again, be it on the big screen or on DVD.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
! Oh yeah, one other thing, where the hell was War Machine?
-
Wow
came in with expectations I didn't think could be matched and yet it far exceeded them. At the end of the movie there was not one complaint from me.
Only one thing that bothers me. I'm not sure if i'm going to be able to enjoy the Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America movies anymore. They just seem so weak now in comparison.
Oh and Batman trailer during previews. Sorry but i can't possibly see how Batman can be anything to even close to this movies greatness. Batman really screwed up by not being released first. The Avengers was just soo damn good and actiony and super and huge that batman will look like watching some petty little kids battle.
-
Just saw Iron Man 3 (featuring the Avengers). Good clean fun. A few thoughts, if anyone cares:
! -Iron Man and Hulk were clearly the stars of this show. I'm not dissing anybody's performance–Johansson's was fine if typically one-note, and Renner's brainwashed mode didn't give him much of a chance to shine for most of the movie--but most of the great one-liners were delivered pitch-perfect by Stark and I agree with everyone who says they nailed the Hulk.
-A little disappointed in Captain America in this movie, though he was still good. For one thing, a series of flying aliens isn't exactly in his combat happy-zone. On the other, it didn't really bring out the "best qualities of humanity" aspect and there was no real reason given why the team defaulted to him as leader (by the time of the war, it really made sense to leave it to Stark judging from his role earlier in the film). It was especially awkward since that major insult--paraphrased, "all of your heroism came from a test tube"--didn't really get a good response. I was hoping that he would be the one to finish off Loki, but I'm hopeful that they're saving the man versus higher being for a Thanos matchup in the second movie.
-Of the "major" Avengers, Thor is still the weak link. Part of this was hamstrung by the ending of his movie, where he ended up in Asgaard never to return unless Natalie Portman found a way to bring him back...except for the fact that there was, apparently, a way to bring him back. He just seemed stodgy and detached from the crew in this chapter, which matched the comics but missed the few good aspects of his feature movie.
-One of the few times I've gotten chills in a blockbuster like this was in Hulk's first feature scene in the war. Great stuff. And honestly, it might have been good that we didn't get a vision of Ruffalo's Banner/Hulk beforehand, it made it all the more awesome to see it for the first time in this movie.
-I don't know why, but every time I see Gwyneth Paltrow play Pepper Potts, I'm amazed. It shouldn't be that good of a role, and I'm not a huge fan of her as an actress, but she owns it.Overall, an outstanding popcorn flick. I agree with The Beast that too much was about Nick Fury–who was fairly boring and mainly played off of it being Samuel L. Jackson playing every Samuel L. Jackson role from the past decade--and that more space could have been given to the core characters, especially Thor. It also had a pretty slow first act. But hell, it's fun, and that's all I could ask.

Finally some one that shares my sentiment , i'm probably wouldn't be disappointed watching it if people didn't hype this film so much like it was the best movie ever. It didn't help that I have watch The Raid before hand that basically invalided all the action scene in this movie.

Nolan's batman was never about action in the first place, its more about drama and thriller. it may have less action than the avanger but one thing that i'm sure of, is that it would have a better story than this movie.

Just don't have high hopes for batman 3. Never did really. Batman begins was good cause it was a coming of age/beginning whatever you want to call it is story and those always seem to be good. Then on to batman 2. 100% Heath Ledger. He made the movie, it was all him. Now on to batman 3, it just hasn't gotten me excited for it at all. looks like it will be dull.
Everyone seems to be sucking batmans #(#@) because of dark knight and the two recent batman games. But when i saw them they looked amazing and i was pumped for them, and they deserve all the praise they got. They were amazing. But batman 3 has not amazed me and not pumped for. I have a feeling it will be like many trilogies that had amazing first 2 books/movie/whatever, then the conclusion fails horribly and hte series disappears from all memory of people as just another failure. Be like Eragon books had a bad ending. I'm hoping the Patrick Rothfuss books "name of the wind" has a great third book. I love the first two. but hell i have a hard time even finishing a trailer for batman 3. I watched the avengers trailers a crap load of times and every one. watched the batman 1 & 2 trailers a crap load, and so on. this third one though has never felt right to me though.
-
I believe Dark Knight Rises will be a well-made movie, but I do hope that The Avengers tops it for the simple fact that it lets Hollywood know that some people prefer an optimistic/fun movie to grittiness and darkness. There's room for both, but the former needs to make a resurgence.

Good for you, having a high expectation for a movie suck, as i learned from this movie.

Hollywood is already know about that or else shit movie like transformer, battleship and a lot other would never been made. there are a lot of optimistic/fun movie has been made but making it good is the tricky part

Uhm, so because The Dark Knight was so good, that if Rises doesn't live entirely up to that level, it will be a failure? That's rather extreme. The movie will need to have like a 50% on rottentomatoes to be considered a failure. I'm not saying that Nolan is all perfect, but his recent movies has pretty much says a lot on how good he and his brother are at this. It's the fact that Nolan didn't initially want to do it that gives me high hopes. He did until he finally found a story he was satisfied with, not one the studio pressured him into.
And on a personal note, the recent trailer has got me pumped. It does a wonderful job of telling me that this is the end, and that for Bruce, it's more personal, more with what the consequences of his actions have done, than it is about just stopping a villain. I love the Avengers to death, but Rises is about a deep and phsycological or whatever story. Bane captures Batman. How does he get out? I can't wait to find out.
Anyways … saw Avengers a week ago. And now it's out in USA. Is it really necessary to still have spoiler tags? Makes more sense for people not to dive into a topic for a movie that's released.

Yes, and I explained why in depth several pages back.
It can loosen up some at this point for casual chatter about the movie, (and it already has) but anything major or really good bits should still be tagged. Some people come in just to see if the consensus is that it's good, or to get news about it, or follow the conversation. You can want to talk about a movie without wanting to know the story.
Theatrical releases work different than manga chapters or tv shows.
-
Saw this Friday. Oh sweet marvelous marvel, this was fucking amazing. Loved it to death and WILL see it multiple times. To me this movie is just all around more enjoyable and therefore better than even the almighty DK. Loved the characters, loved the fights, loved the humor, loved the drama just Omg. That was more than a film that was an experience. I left the theater TIRED from clapping and cheering and having my fucking expectations annihilated. This movie made me care about Black widow who I didn't like in I2 and even though I would have preferred Norton I still enjoyed Ruffalo. I've never found Thor particularly cool but he really had a chance to show off here and I liked him a lot as well. Everyone else was great as well but those are the ones I feel the need to comment on. Everyone involved in this project deserves a round of applause, a vacation, and every cent they make off this movie.

One more thing:
! Why do commercials keep spoiling major climactic scenes in movies? I was looking forward to the scene where the Hulk caught a falling Iron Man. Turns out it was one of the key moments of the very end of the movie. Dammit, PR Folk.
-

Umm, the last 5 or 6 Marvel films leading up to this have all been fun light-hearted movies, and most of them performed very well. Would we even have this movie if that weren't the case?

! I got a bit annoyed with that, too. Especially since it's included in literally every trailer, statement-talk of the actors and other teasers out there - so he fell, and everyone knew the Hulk had still to do his little catching. Never mind.

Nice. It was predicted to do 500 mill by this weekend, but 600 is even better!
Also, new Bobarts.
-
Pretty much everything said had been said. I saw it yesterday and needless to say there wasn't a part I hated. It felt like a honest to goodness superhero squad movie. Very well structured (a little slow to build I admit) and even though a basic story (seriously why do all superhero group origins have to start with an alien invasion) Joss Whedon handled it beautifully, well acted by everyone involved (especially Robert Downy Jr, he was on fire on here. Extra kudos to Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Bet Edward Norton kicking himself for passing on this film) and great use of special effect. I laughed, I was shocked, I cheered and pretty much clapped my hands off. What can I say, it rocked! Definitely going in my DVD collection.
-
About to go see this for the third time, but this time in IMAX. One thing I love about this movie is the fact that none of the team felt under-used.

@Thousand:
I expect no less from the greatest movie ever made :)
I'd hardly call it the greatest movie ever made, but its no doubt a damn good and very entertaining one…..
-
For me it is, Citizen Kane can suck it!
-
Time for everyone to watch Buffy/Angel!
-
Time for everyone to watch Buffy/Angel!
There are people out there who haven't seen Buffy? o.0
I actually just got done rewatching both series. And it reaffirmed my belief that Joss Whedon needs to write more musicals. Dr Horrible and Once More with Feeling were amazing.
So, my fingers are crossed for the sequel to be: The Avengers: The Infinity Gauntlet of Dance.
-
Fingers crossed that they can get Spider-Man in it.
-
Spidey had a guest appearance in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. Take what you can get.
-
-
I never knew Hulk could be that quiet…hmm...
Saw the movie just now...words can not describe my glee...
-
I saw the movie for the first time yesterday. I loved everything about it! Joss Wheadon can really make a difference in a franchise. The banter was so amazing. I'm impressed with Black Widow now, I wasn't sure how'd she fair, but she gave as good as she got.
After the credits:
! Sitting through what feels like 15 minutes of credits was soooo worth it. Who would have thought a completely silent scene like eating swarma could be so entertaining?
-
Have yet to see it. Hopefully it will be sometime this month.

BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND EVER!!!!
-
Just saw it. It was really good, too bad they made Captain America look really pathetic since he never got to "show Tony up". It was apparent that he influenced Tony at the end though. He was given the leadership role.. but it was never determined why.
With that in mind, Hulk and Tony really did steal the show.
Hawkeye really needed more development and his upbeat/jackass attitude… in this movie he was so... meh...
Black Widow was good, don't know why she was chosen over Wasp though. ( I mean... I know why but.. you get it)
As a matter of fact... why didn't they introduce Pym/Lang and Janet in this movie? Do they really think people are going to watch that "Giant Man" movie with no build up?
I feel really spoiled by Avengers EMH, since I feel they did just about every key moment in an amazing way.

I think Cap was made leader 'cause he's Captain.
I think Hawkeye as a jackass is a good thing, as he always was. They didn't introduce Ant-Man and Wasp because Hawkeye and Black Widow were human, normal (even though Ant-Man and Wasp are, too), according to Axel Alonso.

Plus I think Hawkeye and Blackwidow are more marketable.

A person who gets really big, and a person who get really tiny works in comics, (but only with time to really play with the idea) but it's a harder power to take seriously and it always, ALWAYS looks stupid on film.
Pirates of the Caribean 3 is the most recent time I can think of it and it just… it looks stupid.
Besides, the movie was already balancing 7 leads and a villain, (and a whole mess of side characters) thats about the upper limit you can manage without stressing things and losing screen time for various characters.
