RE: The Dark Knight Rises
This is what is known from the person (From SHH) who was at the recent WB screening (Not very spoilery but i will tag it anyway for convenience):
! 1) TDKR Is far superior to TDK.
! 2) Bane has such a strong presence that makes you almost forget the Joker even existed.
! 3) The film did indeed get a standing ovation.
! 4) Grown men came out of the viewing crying..its an absolutely emotional ending.
! 5) There's quite a bit of action compared to the previous films, but that it doesn't overshadow the immense heart and depth of the story.
! 6) Full story is told with more-than-adequate depth, development and conclusion in the WB cut.
! 7) He'd be shocked if WB marketed a Bane mask replica towards children, considering the purpose of the mask in the film. (When he was told about the Bane mask in the Halloween costumes he replied) "Yeah, that's awful. I mean, it's always fun to be a baddie for Halloween, but Bane? That mask is literally part of what makes him a villain. It's like including the Joker's knives with his costumes. I would say it's a wrong move."
! 8) With all 3 trailers you haven't seen anything. The experience is best not knowing anything; that is why Nolan is vague with everything being released.
! 9) Compared to the Avengers its apples and oranges. The source loved Avengers and he was blown away by TDKR. It's hard to compare, though - they're quite different . He said they're both rollercoaster rides, but TDKR is kind of like a really creaky, old coaster where you feel it could fall apart at any second (and that's a good thing…it's similar to TDK in that it builds and builds, and it's scary. The analogy works because you do end up at that safe place. But the ride itself is exciting and unpredictable.) where Avengers was more of a solid-but-exciting ride. They're nothing at all alike.
! 10) On July 20th fans are in for something truly special.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
For the sake of clarity about the film plot, could some one give a recap about
! Loki's plan, why would he need to get caught why he suddenly appear at the beginning, why he tries to invade the earth,etc. because i don't quite catch it the first time and i don't intend to seeing it again until the Blu-ray comes out

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I'm surprised no one had brought up
! That all the alien suddenly died after their mothership destroyed it's probably the most wtf scene for me in this movie.
@Law:The movie was more like X-men but not as bad as the x-men movies however the first x-men movie was ok it was just the later ones that sucked lol
What are you talking about the first class and x2 is a good movie. especially the first class.

RE: Deux Ex: Human Revolution
Finally finished this game. Love it, I love all the little detail that they put in the game, hell, i even like the boss battle in this game. most of them might be frustrating at first if you choose a stealthy approach but for me it serve as a wake up call to balance up your build.
! Love the fact that you could save malik, the fact that the upgrade you get actually bite you in the ass later on in the game and the ability to verbally own the enemies in the game.
It nice to see a game that force the player to be creative in its approach. -
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Just don't have high hopes for batman 3. Never did really. Batman begins was good cause it was a coming of age/beginning whatever you want to call it is story and those always seem to be good. Then on to batman 2. 100% Heath Ledger. He made the movie, it was all him. Now on to batman 3, it just hasn't gotten me excited for it at all. looks like it will be dull.
Everyone seems to be sucking batmans #(#@) because of dark knight and the two recent batman games. But when i saw them they looked amazing and i was pumped for them. batman 3 has not amazed me and not pumped for. Hell i have a hard time even finishing a trailer for batman 3.
Good for you, having a high expectation for a movie suck, as i learned from this movie.
@tatermoog:I believe Dark Knight Rises will be a well-made movie, but I do hope that The Avengers tops it for the simple fact that it lets Hollywood know that some people prefer an optimistic/fun movie to grittiness and darkness. There's room for both, but the former needs to make a resurgence.
Hollywood is already know about that or else shit movie like transformer, battleship and a lot other would never been made. there are a lot of optimistic/fun movie has been made but making it good is the tricky part

@The:
I don't know about you guys, but I don't feel like there was anything to exceed my expectations in this.
It was like, the standard default of what a superhero movie should be and it never really rose above that. This entire movie was what I would have expected. Maybe superhero movies have just been that bad where this is the kind of movie we need to represent a genre, but I don't know.
I was thinking there was going to be more to this.
I thought it was okay and it was a good movie.
There were a lot of little moments and things such as
! The aforementioned Cap's shield deflecting a laser teamwork thing
That made it a little more special, but i don't know
I just… kind of expect any good movie to contain that when it features six superdudes hanging.
Granted, this is like, the first one? First good one?
Finally some one that shares my sentiment :wub:, i'm probably wouldn't be disappointed watching it if people didn't hype this film so much like it was the best movie ever. It didn't help that I have watch The Raid before hand that basically invalided all the action scene in this movie.
@Hinscher:Wow
came in with expectations I didn't think could be matched and yet it far exceeded them. At the end of the movie there was not one complaint from me.
Only one thing that bothers me. I'm not sure if i'm going to be able to enjoy the Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America movies anymore. They just seem so weak now in comparison.
Oh and Batman trailer during previews. Sorry but i can't possibly see how Batman can be anything to even close to this movies greatness. Batman really screwed up by not being released first. The Avengers was just soo damn good and actiony and super and huge that batman will look like watching some petty little kids battle.
Nolan's batman was never about action in the first place, its more about drama and thriller. it may have less action than the avanger but one thing that i'm sure of, is that it would have a better story than this movie.

@Thousand:
! No, it was pure luck that the nuke came at all let alone in time at all. Had they managed to close the gate, they would have still had to contend with a bunch of soldiers left on Earth and they were already on their last legs. Had the nuke come too late, they would have been blown to smithereens. It was it coming at the exact right moment that saved their asses.
! It's not about how wide the world was affected, it's about what we as the audience see, what we as the audience care about. We saw the civilians running in fear, the massive destruction of buildings and vehicles, we get personally invested in the chaos and that's far more engaging. The smaller scale is better because it's easier to visualize and focus to what was going on compared to say they nuked half the planet and we would be totally disconnected to that.
! The point is it was done effectively. The people acted like people would in that situation, we could relate to them and we can take seriously what they're going through. If a villain can evoke such emotions, then the character is fulfilling its role.
! Have you seen the same movie? Because it was pretty clear that had the battle gone any longer, the Avengers would have lost. Hawk Eye was fresh out of arrows, Hulk was getting pulverized, Iron Man's suit was getting shredded, Captain America got shot in the stomach. They were all getting tired and the soldiers kept coming and coming with no end in sight. The enemy's main strength was their numbers and the heroes were getting over-powered.
Let just say that we have different opinion on that scene and move on. I clearly didn't get the same feeling when i watched that scene as you do. any more discussion on this part is pointless. I stand with my original statement that the villain in this movie is disappointing. if you impressed by them then go ahead its your opinion anyway.

@Thousand:
! The only reason the heroes won was mostly pure dumb luck and a near sacrifice play by Tony. It was fine, there did not need to be an ultimate end all villain, Thanos can be saved for later.
! No, it the other way around. The only reason the heroes is threatened is because of poor luck in their part. They already near closing the gate before the nuclear is launched and the only reason tony doing a sacrifice play is because their own government tried to nuke out new york and his armor power is running low
@Thousand:! They incredible amounts of devastation
! it only effect new york that like what 0.1% of the earth.
@Thousand:! threatened the lives of many innocent people
! That's like the minimal requirement for a villain in any big action movie.
@Thousand:! pushed the Avengers to their limit which is what mattered.
! Are we watching the same movie, none of the Avengers is even injured at the end.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
@Thousand:
! Loki was a fine villain, he was a very good villain actually. Far more threatening and interesting than in Thor where he was just a whiny baby with daddy issues. His superiority complex and contempt of humanity was well developed and intriguing and he was a good foil to the heroes for most of the movie. Yes, he got bitch-slapped around in the end rather than some major climactic battle, well that was the freakin' point. He was not the final villain, he was simply an avatar for a far greater war, a deluded narcissist dealing with forces far beyond his ken, a prospective tyrant destined to lose control and be over-taken by forces far greater than he. That was the whole point of his character, they drew parallelisms between him and Hitler, it couldn't be more clear. I'm over-analyzing this a bit but my point is, the way he was taken out did not undermine his character, his role was nothing more than a messenger and him taken out in such a near comical manner served to show how small he really was in the grand scheme of things. It's not that he was weak or a poor villain, he was just in over his head. His grand speeches were well done and threatening when they were made before but the moment he brought in the war, his role in the story was done. He had become powerless in the face of all the chaos he had caused and any more speeches he gave would have just came off as pretentious. Which is why it was so freakin' awesome that Hulk raped his ass during the middle of one. You were done Loki, sorry but you couldn't pull off another one.
! I'm fine with loki if he wasn't the final villain in this movie but he is, which is why its so disappointing for me. and the war that he brought is also a dud, the only thing it brought is more fodder and some big flying machine that got one shotted by the hulk. you know you fail as a villain when the most threatening moment in the movie is not come from your plan but from retaliation act that's done by your opponent
