Sorry. Your meme is lost on me without context.
Air Gear is so bad, even it's memes gave up before conception.
i tried reading that chapter and i had no idea what was even happening
it was worse than when i read a random chapter of Reborn
^It can't be that ba–
I'll take that back.
Air Gear is a manga that I read until it actually got TOO RIDICULOUS to be read. Let that sink in.
To provide a basis of comparison, I read Naruto and Bleach, as bad as they are, without any trouble whatsoever.
Fairy Tail and Reborn have moments when they get so real bad and I'm tempted to drop them, but even so, I read them with only a hiccup here or there.
And I have read Oh!Great's previous manga, Tenjo Tenge, so it's not like I don't know just how badly he's capable of fucking up his story (especially towards the end).
I dropped Air Gear. To call it a hot mess would be an understatement.
That chapter up on Mangastream right now is one of the more straightforward ones. Decipherable. But imagine every chapter being. like. that. Or WORSE. So much worse.
With Gaia Online fanfic quality character development, backstories, and retcons. Almost deliberately bad. Reading Air Gear, bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse, assail me, impale me, with monster truck force.
I had to stop. It was just THAT convoluted, that nonsensical – THAT stupid. The pacing is manic, the dialogue could've been written by L****** S**, and the introduction of new plotpoints is handled with all the forewarning, elegance and subtlety of a meteor strike.
It fails as a story on every measurable level and even some that haven't been invented yet.
And if the thread for it were anywhere near as bad as the manga itself is, the mods would be merging the Naruto & Bleach threads into IT.
That's Air Gear.
If you take a random page from a random book, put the text into Babelfish, run it through six or eight languages and back, draw pictures using half of the resulting text, and write a script with the other half, I'd pretty sure that Air Gear is what you would come out with.
I really hoped there would a miracle and they would pick Karakur Circus and release it with a steady pace but…
Also i just noticed that mangafox also got owned by Vizmedia. They removed Bakuman , Bleach , One Piece and Naruto. Not sure if anything else got removed or not.
Now where am i supposed to read those :D
Edit: About Air Gear, i have also stopped reading it.The whole concept of AT is nice but why the fuck are they fighting?Rollerskates and fighting? When i started that manga i was hoping more of a sports kind of thing. You know racing , parkour and mixing it with other sports anything but fighting , also plot was beyond stupid.Worse then 60 billion exploding papers or aizen
Air Gear's a total mess of a series. Which is a shame because it has potential. Apart from the fantastic art, I like Oh Great's treatment of women as competent fighting characters (even though he shamelessly fanservices the hell out of them) and even some concepts and ideas are kinda cool but the journey itself is such a mess and even msot of the ideas themselves are totally insane and not in the good way. You have things like Barack Obama switching bodies with a high school girl (which I actually liked because of how hilariously stupid it is)… and then you have a character like Akito whose brother is actually his father and whose mother who looks like a rule 63 version of him shot herself in the head in the middle of the ocean before he was born and had her ovaries were extracted after she killed herself.

You've said it all friend lol.
I will say this in Air Gear's defense (I've done at least a half dozen volumes for Del Rey/Kodansha)…
The plot may be absolutely ludicrous, full of holes, drenched in pointless fanservice, etc etc...
But the dialogue is actually pretty good, when it comes to humor, wit, copious use of elegant (and eye-rolling) metaphor, callbacks, and so on. Enough that your enjoyment could differ significantly based on how well it's translated. And every time I've ever subjected myself to checking out the scanlations of Air Gear, it's been barely recognizable as English (I'm talking absolute factual errors in almost every sentence). So unless I've just been looking in the wrong places, I imagine a good translation would give readers a much better appreciation of its strengths.

Air Gear in one post, Oh! Great is a horrible writer. I have my doubts about who is worse, Kubo or him.
Was it already reported that Viz just took One Piece,Naruto and Bleach and a few others off of Manga Fox?
I wouldnt worry to much about Mangafox. They took down the big 3 when OneManga went down. Then after a couple of months after things died down, they put them all back up again.
Well after all the Air Gear bashing I got curious and tried to read the manga…then tried the anime on netflix...yea no...just...no
@mangafox:
Hi everyone,
Sorry for inconvenience, and for the big 3, we received an email about requesting us to remove them from Shueisha Inc., so we have no choice but to take them down now.
Almost of the users care for " when the big 3 come back", right? For this thing, we will do our best to make them back asap. So please continue to pay attention to our site. Wait patiently!!!
Thanks!!!!
shueishisasa themselves huh??
big 3
Way to grief me MangaFox.

I heard similar stuff for Tenjou Tenge. It blew my mind that a plot messier than gargled diarrhea could be so highly acclaimed back in the day, there had to be more to it than simple "bad taste".
Buuut…CMX happened, and I haven't touched a volume in half a decade.
Tenjou Tenge was fine till the second flashback where it completely derailed.
I think i remeber tenjou tenge. It was about Highschool with fighting and a lot of fanservice elements etc?But one of the flashbacks went on about old japan and ancestors or something right? If thats the one yeah, it was really really weird. It was like jumping from one manga to another manga midway then doing 2 backflips and then landing on your face kind of thing.
Tenjou Tenge…that manga failed me so hard...God, it was such a troll. I was in love in the beginning, but we all know how love can turn to hate...

Wha…what?
Is there any unintentional comedy value to be derived from it's bad writing or is it just atrociously bad?
First Mangastream, now Mangafox.

I don't see why Mangafox would lie.

What I don't understand is why would Shueisha only ask them to withdraw the Big 3. I'm sure they are not the only mangas published by Shueisha which are on Mangafox.

Those manga don't really have anything left to gain from promotional piracy.
See something called J-PREVIEW in the pitiful remains of my Mangastream RSS and click on it

They also took down Toriko
its so funny JPREVIEW is summing up things i illegally read last week
edit: my bad, that was a last week preview
it would be cool if they could some how get early spoilers instead of current stuff
Despite all the well deserved Air Gear bashing, I would still take it in a heartbeat over Bleach.

Seeing as how Oh Great actually does his damn job I think everyone would pick Air Gear over Bleach.
Sometimes I think it would be better for scanlators if they didn't have their own websites,
they used to just have IRC channels, same with anime fansubs. . .hell I STILL use IRC to dl scans and or anime that I cant get I can read the language enough now that I can just buy the release but still, a lot of times Ill miss the anime eps on tv as work is busy
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Zp1:
VIZ is an idiotic company that honestly has no clue how to run a successful business model in the year 2012. There is a demand to read manga such as that which appears in JUMP - there is not a demand to read that manga and have a cost which is paid by the consumer.
The entire trend for internet based services (one that's now extending to even games as well), is that the consumer does not want to spend his/her money to view or consume a product. Rather, the onus is on the business to find ways of making profit from the consumers time and attention alone (IE: proper advertising models). Even though it's rough around the edges, funimation is essentially on the right track with how they handle anime episodes of One Piece. They provide the video on their website with no charge to the consumer, and end up getting some degree of compensation from advertisements built in to the service.
You can try and take a perceived moral high ground and claim that "BUT THE TRADEMARK HOLDER HAS A RIGHT TO CHARGE WHATEVER!!111" - but you're woefully ignorant if you think such views reflect reality. Consumer behavior and circumventing of bad business models is the primary driver of the creation of new business models more favorable to the consumer. Without services like Napster and rampant music piracy (which completely destroyed the 19.99 per CD market), you wouldn't have services such as iTunes or the abundance of free music on YouTube today.
VIZ will not be successful by trying to push a subscription model. Five MangaStream style websites will pop up for every website they take down. They will absolutely be shit on by groups providing a free product/service until they find a way of providing a free product/service themselves. It's as simple as that. And no - you shouldn't feel sorry for VIZ, because a company that can't adapt to what the market wants deserves to crash and burn.
Ok, so I was a little annoyed at first with this but then I read more and went "yeah I get it" I realized why these markets have a hard time to get people to pay for them (same with anime subs): most people have equated it to T.V. take a look at T.V. its usually 10-13 channels, of stuff you watch for free, yes people work to make the shows you watched, but people still watch it for free anyway, and they are not considered "Stealing" why? because the advertisers pay TOP DOLLAR to the GOOD shows that people watch, so basically the more people watch a certain show, the more a network can charge for advertising space. I think that you are getting at this as a business model on the net, which has been popping up since google and youtube came a long, I read an article about this and how the owners of anime streaming sites make more money than the actual companies that make shows! I believe that this is what is coming, unless alpha takes off and is spread to other countires- but even then they can have a "no ads" version that is subscription based and an ads version that is free. . .anyway zp1 What do you know about decent net advertising models, I've been interested in working on that end for a while. if you got some time, send a pm my way.
In order to run as an efficient business, Shueisha would need all of these people, being properly fluent in English and possessing the right skills and mindset to interface with the English internet. They are not going to find those people in Japan, and hiring a bunch of Americans to go live in Japan is a) not a long-term solution given their work visa regulations, and b) makes way less sense than the current configuration, which almost every international company in the world uses: a partner or offshoot that is based in the target country and staffed by people from that country!
This.
I totally thought of this point when it was brought up, it is Difficult living in Japan as a foreigner, its one of those culture shock things that really never goes away, its a lot different than any other country Ive lived in before(and Ive been a quite a few) its mostly a cultural thing, but the main reason is the fact that not many people know about or talk about. . .the Japanese really really do try to screw over a lot of people (mostly in bad working conditions, living conditions or bad products, or just in scams etc. . .) even other Japanese as well, this is pretty much the main reason why housing in Japan (if you live near any major city which most people do) is absolutely horrible. I have a few Japanese friends here, who live in apartments that are no bigger than a closet. and I am not exaggerating that either. All that being put on someone from overseas who clearly isn't used to all of it, and I haven't even gone into the backdoor racism that goes on and shows itself in various ways, makes it hard for foreigners to stay here for long.
There is a big industry in financial firms that deal solely with getting foreigners to invest in stocks, etc etc. . . .
The reason is, many overseas companies pay their employes that move here DOUBLE their salary. . .that's right, Double with a D and Ive only skimmed over some of the issues with Japan that are really just unique to any other place in the world that means any Japanophiles getting offended by this and using the "every country has its problems argument" has no leg to stand on, as Japan's problems have a lot more impact on certain groups of people (even. . .er ESPECIALLY among the Japanese) than others, and directly is the reason why pretty much what stephen mentioned here was right. Hell, the only I myself am still here is because I have a few business obligations that will keep me here at least until the end of March, in which depending on how they turn out will determine if I will need to stay here longer or, will be able to go to Singapore.
^
Sorry, off-topic but is there anywhere that we can take this conversation?
I'm really interested to hear about japan because it's like a paradise to me even tho I know it has its own share of problems.
I'm a singaporean, so I'm also interested in you coming over/what you see about it :D
@Baou:
They also took down Toriko
I think Toriko classifies as "Big 3" now.

Don't say that you'll make baou cream his pants.
Hey, if mangareader gets the note from Viz.. this is another cool site with the Big 3 - > http://mangabreaker.net/ Thumbs up
My Antivirus just detected a trojan horse from that site, might want to scan your PC if you've been using that site.
It looks like Manga Reader is next for the count none of the SJ Alpha series + HXH and Reborn aren't working on the site anymore. We'll probably get another bitching response tomorrow.
I just checked. They're still working for me.
Yeah works fine for me.
Well, that's odd. Guess they were just glitching. False alarm.
EDIT: Well, they actually still aren't working from me… Do you guess live in the US?

I do.
Was there an actual notice saying they took it down because of Viz? It's probably just a glitch.
I guess, it wasn't working for my friends on twitter also. So I thought they may have begun taking the manga down.
Mangareader is also not working for me… Fuck.
Anybody knows a good alternative? (Preferably, without hidden Trojans)

Unixmanga is pretty decent, and I've never had problem with it.
Ditto Mangakong.
Also, I'm having the same problems with Mangareader, which is odd because a few hours ago it was fine.
What sort of problems? Mangareader is functional form me.
Mangareader is working fine for me today & loaded One Piece fine. I was having some issues with the site yesterday when I was catching up with Sora no Otoshimono, but that seemed to be a site issue & not a specific series issue.
Mangareader is working for me again. Must have been a site issue like some people said.
