This one will be Obama's 3rd or 4th debt ceiling raise, which isn't bad, compared to Reagan and Carter. Bush Jr. was at the same amount of raises at this point of time in his first term, though, so comparisons made to him aren't wholly accurate.
The point was and still remains that it has never been a big issue before now. I'm not sure how, for that point, it matters where in their term the increases took place. Where in their term is an argument that deals with spending comparisons, a whole different issue. When you consider just the cost of the wars Bush started that were never included in the budgets, he is hardly a paragon of small government or low gov't spending, lol.
Oh, completely agreed. I just think a comparison to Reagan might be more appropriate than Bush 2, because of the pedestal most conservatives in the House and Senate hold him.

It is a horrible story. My great uncle actually worked with Ron Thomas, the deceased's father thew last three and a half years before he retired and from hearing what he told my mom he is distraught that this happened period, not just because the man was the son of a sheriff.
The city has offered Ron Thomas $900,000 to prevent him from suing the city, which to me is kinda fucked up.

Well it's not like that was his Plan A. He did try to increase taxes to take in revenue, but the Republicans in Sacramento kept blocking him. When you cant' raise money, the only thing left to do is cut.

I understand your anger, but you need to calm down and think about this rationally. The WBC are cowardly bastards who hide behind the first-amendment, and it is their sole and really only protection from getting their asses ripped apart. Do you really think they'll actually travel to a place where they know said amendment won't protect them? I highly doubt it. Sickening as it is, They're completely ball-less, and will rarely (if ever) leave their "safety zone".
I suspect this is merely a ploy for their brief moments in the "spotlight". 3 Students saw a man and thought he had a gun so they reported it and the school went into lockdown. Last I hear police never found this guy, so whether or not there was actually a man on campus with a gun is unknown.

It is his fault to some extent. Obama had a lot to do with the Democrats choosing not to deal with the Bush tax cuts issue prior to the 2010 elections. That was a ready made issue for Democrats to expose Republicans on, but they chose not to do it. On several different occasions, he's had clear chances to fight Republicans over things that polled well, but chose not to engage because… well, who the hell knows? At this point, the Republicans have zero reason to fear or evn respect him since they can play the waiting game until he caves.
Beyond that, Obama has also included a lot of Republican rhetoric in his talks about deficit reduction. Cutting Social Security was actually something that the White House proposed rather than the Republicans despite the fact that it has nothing to do with the deficit; if anything, Boehner ran away from the White House's initial proposal to cut the debt. The argument could be made that it was something designed to lure the Republicans into voting for it so that Obama could veto it and make them look bad, but there have been quite a few statements from the White House over the past few years about reforming entitlements.
If anything, the mere fact that he didn't come out and immediately dismiss the idea of cutting spending in a recession as utterly idiotic went a long way towards legitimizing the Republican position. If I recall correctly, the whole talk about not cleanly raising the debt ceiling to begin with actually started from the White House and a handful of conservative Democrats and not the Republicans.
