An old website that pretty much tore a big one in the old Saban dub.
-
This game would've been 100x better if Farmer With a Shotgun is in it.:ninja:
@RPG KING DBZU was a website that expose the "uncensored" version of DBZ to North America while Saban's edits was still the only that was available in NA.

For anyone who cares…!! More spoilers for Episode of Bardock…
! @TripleRach:
! > Amazon Japan's insane shipping prices are justified by insane shipping speed, so I got the August issue today. Here's a quick summary of the first chapter:(Spoilers, obviously.)
Like the end of the TV special, Bardock tries to attack Freeza's ship in space. They have a short conversation where Freeza says he's sick of working with Saiyans, then he launches a blast to blow up Planet Vegeta. But instead of dying, Bardock wakes up in a bed on a planet that looks a lot like Planet Vegeta. He's being treated by some weird alien guys (look a little like Gure's race). Ipana, the village doctor, and his little son Berry. Bardock thinks the medicine being used to heal him is similar to the fluid in Medical Machines. Ipana says this is Planet Plant, so Bardock starts to wonder if he's in the past. Two guys arrive in a spaceship and declare they're gonna conquer Planet Plant. Toobi (looks kind of like the beetle guy from the afterlife tournament), and Kyabira (bigger guy with a shark fin on his head). Bardock kills them, and all the villagers come to thank him, but he says he doesn't give a shit about them and flies away to hang out in a cave. Berry arrives at the cave with a basket of food, and Bardock acts like a dick to him, but eventually accepts it. Berry comes back again with food multiple times, and Bardock seems to be growing tolerant of him. Meanwhile, Chilled (Chirudo, member of Freeza's race) says it's been 10 days since they've heard from Toobi and Kyabira, so he decides to investigate Planet Plant himself.
My theory is that Bardock might've gone back 1,000 years, so he's going to turn out to be the legendary Super Saiyan. But the dialogue at Freeza's spaceship seems a lot different from the dialogue of that scene in the TV special, so maybe they're not necessarily trying to fit it into the series timeline like that.
I can't do scans right now, but I could try to post a few photos and other details when I get a chance.
! and…
! @TripleRach:
! > @TripleRach:so maybe they're not necessarily trying to fit it into the series timeline like that.
I spoke too soon, because I just noticed the page before the manga starts says exactly that. There's a blurb that describes what the TV special was (broadcast 21 years ago, etc), then says this manga is a sequel to it. There's also a timeline describing the events of the TV special, and the final line of the timeline says, "However, Bardock lived!! You'll know the truth by reading this story!!" There's also a blurb that says Toriyama designed Chilled.
Anyway, here are some photos. Uploaded them to Imgur so my own bandwidth wouldn't get destroyed, so feel free to link them wherever else you want.

Ipana: イパナ
Berry: ベリー
Kyabira: キャビラ
Toobi: トービ
Chilled: チルドBig happenings in Little Chinatown!

So…Bardock is alive. Wow.
-
! Bardock being the legendary super sayian? I can't say I saw that coming.
-
Bardock being the original SSJ would actually be fairly interesting.
-
This game would've been 100x better if Farmer With a Shotgun is in it.:ninja:
Truer words have never been spoken.
-
wow. bardock the legendary super sayajin . that was unexpected
dragon ball heroes should have some OVA's -
This isn't technically canon right? Bardock being the legendary Super Saiyan? Then again Broly wasn't canon either. So They're pretty much doin' whatever the fuck they want with the series at this point.
But I still like this idea. It further expands the DragonBall universe.
-
'Canon' to what? When has Shueisha or Toei ever cared about some sense of 'canon'?
-
As it stands, the only thing that is "canon" are the 42 volumes Toriyama wrote…of which only 26 matter to Toei and Shueisha and the like.

The 2008 Jump Special?

Quick question, thought you people in here might know more than the average poster about it. My son (9 1/2 years old) is interested in playing the online game "Dragonball online." http://dbmmo.com/ I am concerned since it involves playing with other people, and he is young still. If it would be better to take these questions to the gaming section, do simply say so, and I will. Is there anyone here who's played it? Can you tell me about it at all? Does it involve conversation between players at all?

I don't play that game but from my experience pretty much all online games of that kind would involve conversation between players.
Personally I wouldn't let my kids approach any game online until they are old enough. I had a bad time with it. Chance that your son will meet with bad language and some other inappropriate behaviors is high.

I just checked that site.
And my, was it pathetic. This is the most embarrassing thing I've read in the internet for a long time:
http://dbmmo.com/Forum/player_vs_player_pvp/5304-i_need_one_account_vietnam.html
Begging for a game account he can't afford to buy and blame our country's economy? And what's he doing playing online game while he is that poor?
I thought I had no national pride…[/hide]–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I did some search and yes that game does have conversing function:
-
Thanks Sea. That pretty much answers the question right there, doesn't it? No game for him yet.

Online games are a waste of of valuable youth. I would do anything to get that part of my life back…(which was 4 months until I looked at myself in mirror) That's unless the game is incredibly boring and he stops playing it after a month or two... If it's non-stop addicting, prepare to have a son that would probably be living in his computer for the rest of his life. Whether this is good or bad is up to you.
-
Yikes. That sounds scary, Hiroy, and makes me feel as if I spend way too much time online, giving him a bad example. Offline we go, right this minute. Thanks!

Agreed. In 8th grade I was addicted to some, and it was a terrible terrible time that leaves me scared whenever I think about it. Back then I had no computer so I stayed in the net cafe all day, and didn't even learn anything positive from the Internet. Then my family bought a computer and I sticked to video games instead, which cured my addiction for any soft of game.

There's a great deal on amazon.com right now for the Dragon Boxes. I just pre-ordered 7 for 23 bucks.

Okay, this is kind of random, but I just finished watching this episode of Dragonball Z Kai and…well, has anyone ever noticed this?
-
…wow.
That certainly was unexpected. O_o

FUNimation announced at Comic Con that there will be a new difinitive release of Dragonball Z, Dragonball Z on Blu-ray. I thought that the Dragon Boxes were the difinitive collection? Anyways, we get the first Blu-ray in November entitled "Dragonball Z Level 1.1" and has the first 17 episodes.

Every new release of DBZ they do is advertised as the "definitive collection".
And the only time I've even cautiously believed them, was for the Dragon Box. Which is also the only DBZ-release they've done that I've been completely 100% satisfied with. And I seriously doubt that FUNi's own HD-master is gonna be better than it. Especially seeing how it's the SAME FREAKIN' STUDIO and the SAME FREAKIN' SUPERVISOR as the "Orange Bricks". Which was the absolute worst official release of any anime I have ever seen. Were it not for the fact that the real definitive collection only has one more set to go and that said one set is still slated for an October-release at which point I will finally have the entirety of Dragon Ball Z in the format I always wanted it in, I'd probably be a lot more annoyed that they're pulling this crap again. As it is though, I'm only annoyed that they're putting their focus on this rather than getting Dragon Boxes out for the original Dragon Ball.
But yeah, I have zero faith that this will be good. At all.
-
How many times has Funi released DBZ anyway?
I mean, there's only so many times you can "remaster" and/or redub a series.

Yes, but this time its definitive on Blue Ray.
Not that it really matters since the anime wasn't created with high def in mind. if anything, it'll look a little worse at super high resolution.
Shame Kai completely fell apart, wasn't what it promised to be and didn't finish, or else I'd have been getting that. I'd love to have the whole series in 100 episodes without filler. But… thats not what Kai turned out to be.
And dub Goku is still horrendosuly miscast even 12 years later, and Kaio still sounds like a retard with a lisp. They recast so many parts and dubbed them fresh, and its still so, so bad.
-

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. I mean, Kai looked alright if one can look past Toei's quasi-remastering which, while being nowhere near as bad as FUNi's, still wasn't all that great, and there were those few episodes in the Freeza-arc that were inexplicably stored on higher quality film and as a result were in much better condition… And those looked great in Kai.
Of course this is all moot since again, they went to the SAME GUY who handled their last "remastering". Which was abysmal.

Seven separate lines for the second television series alone.

Interesting.
….They just can't get it completely right, huh? Whether it's some wonky VAs or the "remastering", it....baffles me.

No, they got it right with the Dragon Boxes. They went to Toei and got the masters used for the Japanese DVDs.
Rather than wait for Toei to make their own supervised HD remaster they decided to break out a film stock they had on hand and do their own…despite knowing nothing about how the show was made, having any proper reference materials, and money for a proper restoration.

They got it right with the Dragon Boxes. It's just that Dragonball Z is such a money making behemoth for FUNimation that they want to milk this series for all it's worth, and exhaust every possible release before finally not being able to come up with any other way to distribute it.
-
The Dragon Boxes themselves aren't even that great a remaster. It's just that it's gotten so much hype throughout the past decade and with the horrendous orange brick release stateside it has gotten much more cred than it deserves, when Kai looks overall better and truer to the original picture.
-

I can't wait for Dragon Ball Online. It looks brilliant and Toriyama spent a LOT of time being involved with it.
BUT if it helps your case at all, Dragon Ball Online won't even hit Japan until Quarter 2 of 2012 - so maybe your son will be more the age when it hits English-speaking shores?
-

Excuse me, what now? The Dragon Boxes were remastered from the original film print, with no adjustments save for the removal of scratches and other film damage. You literally can't get any more "true to the original picture", because what we got on the Dragon Boxes is the original picture. Also, Kai attempted to remove the grain by blending two and two frames together, resulting in a damn-near constant ghosting. It might superficially appear to be of higher quality, but if one looks more closely… it really isn't. Kanzentai's review of Kai episode 12 has a pretty good example of what I'm talking about.
-
Kai pisses me off so much I don't even want to think about it. The beginning was great, fast paced, color correction, and all that jazz, and then during the Cell Saga, that all disappeared. Then they have the nerve to not do the Buu Saga, I'm really lucky I didn't buy a single dvd. >_>
-
I just want the Dragon Boxes for the original series myself stateside. I was going to buy the Blue Bricks seeing it was finally the whole series until someone said "wait for the Dragon Box". Doubt it will ever occur with their obsession with DBZ but…oh well, one less thing for me to buy.
Though I could look at the prices for the DBZ Dragon Boxes...if it's a good price, it's an easy way to get the entire 297, warts and all.
