I'm glad I still bought the sets but now the price per episode is considerably more reasonable for a long series. It's too bad Fuimation bought 1-205 rather than 144-349. If they had then we would have completed all of Skypiea and all of CP9 and would be complaining that they arn't finishing up Thriller Bark.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

Well…I'm buying it anyway, and I'll re-watch the series dub. Who knows, maybe I can finally convince some of my friends to actually buy them.
-
I kinda think ol' FUNi shoulda released the series in 26 episode sets in the first place. But for the same price of course (30 bucks).
-
Thank god Rightstuf confirmed for people who though this would be a movie/season 4 boxset.

Like me haha. I wished. So much. So…..much....:whistling::whistling:

So it is perfectly okay for you to wish that every con will announce something One Piece related but not us hoping 'Collection' set would be movies or a placeholder for Season 4/Whatever? haha
Well I always told myself I will never by re-releases of the older sets since I already own them but with a price like that I am going have to reconsider that policy. haha
-
Few things to take note of…
In the commentary on pt5, someone says, "Maybe we'll see Dragon again in Season 4." If One Piece is cancelled, they don't know about it. Another small hopeful sign- not to be pessimistic.
Isn't a SAVE release the same thing as this with terrible box art instead?
Bad news about the re-release: They'll probably wait until they've put the whole series out this way before we get season four- even if they have it now.
Good news about the re-release: They might continue with Season four in this format after they catch up. It sure would be awesome to get 26 episodes to start off with. This is unlikely though. Especially knowing Funi's strategy. The box set 'officially' comes out tomorrow, I'd start expecting news over the next two weeks. I've been checking ANN religiously.
Mickey, I don't think most people thought this was season four. Most thought it was a re-release. Some thought it was a movie box set.
Arcadia, I'd prefer it if it was those later episodes instead. Only because I love CP9 so much. But I would certainly miss Alabasta, Little Garden, and others.
-
I myself am still pondering if I should purchase this.
-
I'm sure we'll get "official" word about this this weekend at either Anime Boston or Sakura Con, so keep those ears open. I still think if these sets sell really well we have a chance to get Season 4 before these are all announced/produced. It's all a matter of sales here folks, so if you want Season 4 you need to get everyone you know and their friends to buy these sets.
-
^ Then I shall buy it.
-
Do we have a release date for when RightStuf will get this?
I am soooooooooooooo going to purchase these, as long as they still have the dub. -

Glad I'm going to AB then.
-
It officially streets July 26. If one pre-orders it they should get it two or so weeks before then.
-
I assume this will be in the normal thinpak packaging, but if they decided to do a limited edition with a chipboard box I'd buy it.
-
^ It'll probably be packaged like my Trigun Complete Series set. It'll be the same set up as the regular One Piece DVD's, except in the thinpack cases there will be two discs (one on each side) instead of just one disk.
-
Could someone suggest/ask about earlier sets getting the chipbox's. As they would be good for keeping them bit safer and look good aswell.
When/if they get round to season 4, Voyage one CE would come with the season 4 box. where as CE for voyage 2 could be made and come with a box for season 1 and so on.
Just a thought.
-
It's a minor thing, mainly since I already have the originals, but I do hope they keep the commentaries and stuff on there.
-
Or pack in an art book, keychain, posterboard, plushie, odds, ends, stuff.
And get a shelf spot at Walmart this time around. Even in the boonies I see Naruto, Bleach, DBZ on a walmart shelf. No One Piece EVER.Edit: Or the best packit would be an official Funimation "Be Patient" sticker.
-
Shit I'd be happy with just postcards, like with FMA: Brotherhood.

I already own all of the sets, but I pre-ordered this anyway. If anything, it would make a nice gift, and I'd only need two of these for someone to see the entire East Blue Saga.
-
HA! I just completed the order from Right Stuf. I just love those guys.
So If this turns out to be a collection of One Piece swimsuit issue collection or something then well those are nice to look at too. -
Uhh…. what? It's a DVD set, it has a runtime, region and dicks.
-
A DVD collection of dicks in One Piece bathing suites. How to I cancel my order?
-

Why would you want to? FUNi's really taking a risk with releasing this one if that's the case. I'd buy it just so I could say "I gotta collection of One Piece wieners in the mail today."
-
Lets see someone complain about the prices this time around.
-
I really hope the dicks don't overlap 'cause I hate when my dicks overlap. It feels really uncomfortable in my pants.
-

…..................What.

This is plural. So again:
What.

never underestimate the cheap otaku.
anyways im definitely going to buy these for a couple of friends and one for myself of course, it would be nice if they added some special item to it like collectible cards or something.
never the less, lets keep the one piece crazy train rolling and keep buying those sets

They did this for Black Cat and Tsubasa. Volume 1 came with a box for the whole series. They should definitely do this for each season. I mean- why NOT? The only reason they didn't do it for One Piece is because each set already comes in a box and the aforementioned dvds only contained 4-6 episodes each.
-
@Badass:
This is plural.
Yes, I know. I meant to do that and so did the mis-spelling.
-
If they don't give us some real indication as to their intentions long-term during this next set of conventions, I'm going to plotz.
-
Yes, I know. I meant to do that and so did the mis-spelling.
I hope you did some misspelling.
Anyways, I've been watching the G8 arc- got my set today. Only on the fourth episode, but it is thoroughly entertaining for a filler arc. I love Johnathan's VA, as well as Johnathan as a villain. I'm also surprised that the commentary made almost no mention of a season four.
And yes, Kenji, I'll be thuroughly aggravated if they don't release news soon.
Off to play Reach, sn Baroque25 if anyone wants to play me at this late hour.
-
I sort of hope that they make the marathon mode exclude the recaps. It would make me buy the set, even though I already own all of them.
-
never underestimate the cheap otaku.
Exactly. They'd whine that it's not 26 eps of Season 4, and then download it anyway.
-
I think the latest volume comes out today, I'll probably have to go pick that up.
-
Mickey, I don't think most people thought this was season four. Most thought it was a re-release. Some thought it was a movie box set.
Yeah. I know. I mostly said that to get his goat. haha
I will preorder this as soon as the cover art comes out. I would preorder it now but I already have a few orders coming down the pipe that I still need to pay for. So I think the cover art will be a good time to order. I don't like rebuying what I already bought but that is one good price right there. $30 bucks? Sign me up.
-
I should be used to repackages by Funi by now, but for some reason I always have to get the most recent release because I just can't wait to watch it. Happened with Samurai 7, and now it's happening with One Piece. I wouldn't trade it though, I love getting to Best Buy the day the newest box set comes out, then setting the marathon feature. It's really been a while since I've had that kind of anticipation for a series release.
Here's hoping for some season 4 info soon though! fingers crossed
-
I don't know how you guys do the marathon feature. I have to pace myself and watch just an episode or two at a time, especially with the 3-4 month release schedule it has been on. I like to ration my DVD box sets out, personally.
-
I wonder why the eyecatches are never cut of the marathon feature.
-
Haha, rationing One Piece. I think I'd go insane if I tried that!
One piece is just so addicting that I'd get annoyed without using the marathon feature. The only time I didn't play it was when A-Z was the ending because that's my favorite of any OP closing song. I don't even mind the dubbed version of it (since it pretty much sounds exactly the same, just English). And it's really helpful when you get a whole arc in box set and need a pick-me up just to marathon an arc. I just marathoned Skypiea recently and enjoyed it so much!
-
Got my Voyage 5 in the mail today. I have to finish Brotherhood Part 4 first. And if anyone is wondering the final part comes out July 26th.
-
I wonder why the eyecatches are never cut of the marathon feature.
The marathon feature works in conjunction with the chapter stops of the episodes; the opening and closing are each their own chapter, while each of the eyecatches are a part of the chapter that precedes and continues from it, respectively. Just making the eyecatches their own chapter also wouldn't would when they sometimes continue a musical cue from the scene before it.
That might be a problem for the recaps as well, since the audio from them sometimes affect the audio just before the episode title and could cause a skip if cut.
-
Anyone think FUNimation will fix some of the dub episodes in the re-release? I remember one of the eyecatchers having the original logo instead of the FUNimation one that one time. Maybe they will notice this time around?
-

I love the marathon feature. I honestly wish they'd put it on all their stuff.

i need 2 more to watch from my blu ray discs, picked it up at fry's, they were glorious. and that final set is definitely a first day buy

Does anyone else love Johnathan's VA on Fifth voyage?
He's such a great filler villain. Funny, smart AND badass. I'm really liking this filler, surprisingly. Definitely worth the 30$.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Strangly enough, his VA is Mark Stoddard. Who is credited for playing Hiriluk, Mayor Boodle, and Jaguar D. Saul. They've casted Saul? Since when? I don't remember him being in Unlimited Adventure, but I suppose he must;ve been in a flashback in that game.

They casted him as Saul for movie 8.

Just finished G8 and I have to say… I liked it better than Skypeia.
-
Is Skypeia really is that bad? I haven't seen it.
-
Is Skypeia really is that bad? I haven't seen it.
I don't think so. It's a good example of the Straw Hats just going off to have an adventure. It kind of suffers from being a bit too long in the middle and the fact it's sandwiched between Alabasta and Water 7, and that's hard for anything to stand up to. It might have been best served as a movie, but there's a lot about the arc to enjoy, particularly the villain.
