@ArSoNiSt:
Well, I'm kinda new here (Mostly active on OMF) and I'm not sure where I'm supposed to post this, so I figured this thread might be best. I'll introduce myself by posting what I think about OP:
I think you're a troll between this and the Perona remark on the crew thread, but I'll bite anyway.
Although there are things that I like about OP, I think that it is greatly overrated by some of the fans. OP is good, but Oda isn’t deserving of the “God” thing. Prior to becoming knowledgeable about OP, I came across a couple fans (Mostly in this thread, bashing Naruto and Bleach) that claim that OP is the best thing out there because of superior writing and whatnot. So I decided to give OP a shot, in order to see for myself if it is really better than Bleach and Naruto…..
Haha yes, set things up with the "your bias im not" story. Nice. Passive aggressive style is always better as well.
….and I discovered that it isn’t really that better than either Naruto or Bleach.
Then you need to go back and do your fucking homework.
I for one think that Oda is a good writer, the character development behind the main characters are pretty good (I for one loved Chopper’s and Franky’s backstories the most…although Ussop is my favourite character), but there are several things that Oda does that makes him fall pretty short to “God” status (Akira Toriyama and the author of Rurouni Kenshin [I’ll try to find the name] IMO are much closer to God status IMO). I don’t think that OP is any better than Naruto or Bleach.
Kenshin is mediocre at best, and complete tripe at worst. Watsuki is basically a hack with style.
Moreover, I think that the same sh*t that I’ve heard OP fans say about Naruto and Bleach (Naruto being emo over Sasuke, or Ichigo using resolve steroidz to win) can be found in OP as well. Not only that, but they are in greater abundance in OP as opposed to Naruto and Bleach.
No one in OP has Naruto's problem, and that isn't any kind of criticism of why Bleach sucks at all. And lollll at final statement. You can't make this realistic can you? You could have been clever and really trolled people, but nope, you just had to accuse One Piece of being more emo then Naruto, POOF, all your credibility as real goes out of the window.
When Luffy was saved by an unmanned Going Merry at Enies Lobby:
This part just made no sense at all to me. If Iceberg’s/Kaku’s/Franky’s diagnosis of the Going Merry being beyond repair didn’t make this feat ridiculous enough.
Merry wasn't broken beyond use then, just not capable of being fixed of it's increasing problems and inevitably going to collapse. It's like a doctor giving a patient five weeks to live, not pronouncing them dead.
Pay attention scrub.
The fact that Iceberg was somehow able to do enough repairs on the Going Merry, whom Iceberg said was unfit to sail again…much less through a buster call was just asspull to me.
No he didn't goddamned say that. He said if they took Merry out it would fall apart before long. He never fucking said it was incapable of sailing at all again.
I mean, a buster call is supposed to destroy everything, yet an unmanned going merry was able to get through a buster call? That was just lame to me.
Buster Calls target islands, wow, all your "critique" is just really sloppy attention paying and misunderstandings. Magnificent work Ebert.
Oda can talk about ship spirit and what not, but I think that the Going Merry even making it to Enies Lobby from Water 7 was just lame. Oda tries to create an atmosphere of sentimentality in order to sweep this obvious a$$pull under the rug by having everyone focus on the fact that the GM was a “nakama” and had a “spirit”.
It did have a spirit. What did Usopp see in Sky Island? Like 10+ volumes before any of this shit. Pay. Attention.
This also didn’t make any sense to me. Luffy all of a sudden being able to use an ability like Soru (What Luffy calls gear 2)
Gear 2 isn't Soru. And Luffy never called it that.
, even though we haven’t really been shown any hints that Luffy was indeed working on a tech like that, ever since he met Aokiji.
Because Oda hates training, which is the most spectacular shonen innovation of the otherwise mannerist work that is One Piece.
We always know they work on moves and strength between arcs, this is just a fact of the universe. Gear was just a little more jarring to see.
*If Luffy came up with the tech after getting whooped by Aokiji, why would he need to look at Blueno’s feet? He should have his own way of using gear 2.
Because the feet thing was Luffy seeing through a technique, it wasn't the same thing as Gear2.
*Not only that, but the last time Luffy had met Blueno, it was at Water 7 when he and Zorro got tossed out of the building by Lucci. I don’t think Luffy had seen Blueno use soru then, and even if he did, when did he get time to even practice gear 2?
That wasn't a real fight, it was over quick before anyone was fully aware of what was going on.
He was stuck underwater between two buildings (Which surprises me because he should’ve drowned). We only saw Luffy again when the Laguna had subsided before striking Water 7 with all of its force.
Luffy didn't land in water, Zoro did.
Another thing is that gear third doesn’t make sense either. Luffy bites his rubber body and inflates himself….how the hell can he bite himself? He’s made of rubber?
Rubber is breakable. Maybe you want to take this "a$$pull" up with physics.
If Valopu,
His name is Wapol.
someone who has eaten fruit that allows him to tear off the side of ships, not to mention have lots of trouble chewing Luffy himself when they first met. How the hell can Luffy bite himself and use gear 3rd?
Biting through a whole neck and head is different then biting through a bit of finger.
I think that the Nakama all getting the same idea when they saw Luffy in the paper is just Oda again using sentimentality to justify this obvious use of the plot-plot fruit to create a time skip. I think that this was very contrived, and a very weak plot twist. How the hell could 3XD2Y mean “Stay where you are for two years”? I think that this was total a$$pull.
It didn't. It meant "See you in two years". The crew stayed where they were because it made sense. Except for Robin obviously who didn't stay where she was. Staying where they were was just what happened. It wasn't said by Luffy.
Not only that, but then almost every Tom, **** and Harry have DFs (And some lame ones too) with some of them not making any sense (Soap turning you into a giant shiny blob thingy?? Chew fruit allowing you to become what you eat?), even though it was said to be the rarest of treasures.
I love whenever some upstart moron makes this declaration, and then promptly shuts the fuck up when someone (me this time) points out that it was said hella early on that the Grand Line (as gathering place of all the strongest people) was crawling with Fruit users.
Hmm, let's see. Fruits seen in East Blue.
1. Gum Gum
2. Bits Bits
3. Slip Slip
4. Smoke Smoke
Buggy got his while sailing with Roger, Luffy got his from big time pirates, and Smoker is a Marine of Grand Line rank.
Pay the fuck attention.
Also Soap makes them slippery and smooth. Have you ever held a bar of soap? That's what Sanji and Nami's bodies were like. Wapol's fruit was a fucking factory fruit, the name/sound of it was a factory industrial noise, he ingests material and creates things with it.
You fucking suck.
It would make sense if only the strongest of the pirates had DFs,
Hmm, like maybe, the kind who show up in the elite super sea route? Hmmm. Maybe something to that…
and some other kind of power source or fighting styles existed for the not so strong. Like in Naruto.
loll, you mean Bloodline Naruto?
Everyone has chakra, but only a few can mould it to perform ninjutsu (Ninjas in general), then only a few can use doujutsu (Hyuga, Uchiha), and only a few of those can use the advanced forms of said dojutsu (Neji, Sasuke). Then there are those who have beasts in them that make them incredibly strong (Hosts).
Haki, swords, and basic martial arts are other kinds of fighting. Everyone has Haki as well.
The good thing about Kishi’s take on powers sources/techs is that they are all derived from one single entity….chakra.
The bad thing is that only two characters actually focus on Taijutsu. Ninjutsu is a blanket term for whatever dumb bullshit Kishi makes the ninjas do. And Genjutsu is the absolute worst part about Naruto fighting period. Whoopdeeshit. What immaculate power sources/techs.
The same can be said for Kido, bankai and shikai in Bleach, they are all derived from reiatsu. DFs on the other hand are so random that Oda basically comes up with all kinds in order to suit the situation, which in turn doesn’t feel all that coherent in comparison to chakra in Naruto or reiatsu in Bleach.
Bleach has no system. It's a bunch of bland faggots with swords that do whatever Kubo wants them to do. It's the same accusation you level at devil Fruits. In fact same with Kishi and Naruto. Ninjutsu covers practically anything under the sun, and Genjutusu is a literal cheat code for bad action writing.
DFs seem to be more or less tailored to the person’s personality rather than a person just using a power source.
lol, you mean like Kido and Ninjutsu.
Like the evil BlackBeard having Yami no mi, or the Superstrong WhiteBeard having the Goru no mi, or even Ace having the fire Logia. I don’t think that the DF’s are well written into the story at all.
Ah yes, the Fire and Earthquake archetypes. What the fuck are you talking about.
Another thing is that the some of the DFs in terms of abilities don’t really add up either. Like Chopper’s DF ability. It’s supposed to be a human fruit zoan, that turns you into a human. But then Chopper’s transformations are barely human at all. He gains superstrength (Without the rumble ball) from normal transformations. The additional transformations don’t make much sense either.
The additional transformations are various levels of hybrid. Jump Point is a humanoid torso crossed with raindeer legs for instance. Chopped and Kureha created rumble balls to fuck around with the power.
And as also fucking stated, a power boost is a given for Zoans, so Chopper's human form is buff.
bunch of boring overanalytical crap about rumble balls
I'm getting bored, who fucking cares about all this obsessive combat technical shit. What the hell is this? Dungeons and Dragons? One Piece isn't about this shit, and it's not for autists who care too much about it either.
I also don’t like how some of the other fighting techs outside of DFs are as well. I mean, some of them are ridiculously retarded, like Ramen Kempo (The guy that Sanji beat with the knives on the Puffing Tom when Robin was being taken away), Ivana’s Death wink and Okama kempo in general (Seriously? A death wink? A tranny fighting style?).
Like this, A BLOO BLOO HE WINKS TO ATTACK, you haven't developed a taste for this because you have your brain up your ass obsessing with SUPAR SRIOUZ FIGHT MEN COMIC or whatever. You ain't hip to this.
So what do I think of OP?
A bunch of who gives a shit qualms about fighting technical issues, a bunch of misconceptions about "plot holes" and "contrived" things that mostly don't exist, and a terrible inability to read the comic.
lol, I hope Oda gets better with some of the stuff I mentioned in the future…that is, if he really wants to become a manga G-O-D IMO.
You fucking suck, now never write that much worthless bullshit again.
