Somehow or another Caribou will be dragged into the fight. Do you think he will stick with the SH side or go with Dekker?

For me he still is just the first task on FI to show some of Luffys new Haki skills which Luffy will later use fully in the fight vs the main villain of the arc(hopely a fishman).
Caribou being a logia seems perfectly fitting for a first villain Luffy has to use Haki against,
but Caribou showed so many differnet facettes of his chara that i wouldn`t be surprised if he stays a bit longer in the story planning something and after he is reunited with his crew he makes his move, instead of just being used as a 0-8-15 fodder pirate being beaten in minutes.
That is not the way Oda handles a logia.

So yeah, him joining for a while Decker is possible, but i think he will always work just for his own goals non the less.

I wouldn't care if Oda spend another 10 chapters with this undersea adventure since his characters and imagination are just so much fun to look at. One Piece is an adventure story and I'm sure this is the kind of chapters Oda loves drawing, introducing readers to his crazy new concepts, characters and environment. Knowing that the series will probably end in less than a decade, I'm going to enjoy every moment of wonderful adventure the crew has together. And I don't want every chapter to be stuffed with plot progression or overly dramatic moments. That's not One Piece IMO.

ugh now i feel like a douche since you seem to be a nice guy…or girl....prob guy though shrugs Also they haven't progressed downwards at all they're still at 3000 feet according to nami so they've been floating around at the same level looking for luffy/zoro/sanji.

Good and dialogue-packed chapter. I love the scenes where only people's expressions make me laugh, so Franky was just hilarious. I didn't think that undersea would be that dangerous, because it's only route between Paradise and New World for pirates, and they're even using a ship with all kind of gadgets.

I'm waiting to see Decken's full appearance. I think he'll be a comical character, because Oda just does that with the real life legends. I suppose we're not going to get to Fishman Island any time soon. This will be probably the only arc we're undersea, so Oda is going to take his time. I'm sure he has planned this for years.

Because if so, then that solves the sushi problem nicely.
Zoro gets his giant tako gunkanmaki and Mr. Surume (eventually) gets his arm back.

Not that it makes much difference, but I agree with dinty. I vastly prefer reading someone's reasoned and thoughtful post even if I disagree than to see thousands of one liners telling me someone thought something sucked/was lame etc etc.

Although at the same time I hope it also starts interesting debates, without the antagonism.

Blue, may I ask something about your post? You mentioned that you wanted Chopper and Usoop to man up, now this is something I was thinking on recently as I too would have thought Usoop in particular would have grown up a lot over two years. But putting aside the pracitalities, don't you think it would make things rather one-dimensional if the entire crew were always stoic, cool and collected in the face of danger? I think it adds a nice contrast. Plus my suscpicion is that Usoop will act a lot cooler once he is facing off against a non monstrous opponent (more like when he nailed Perona).

I really think the crew balance will be made skewiff without this panic and it might make every single foe seem far less dangerous if everyone were to simply take things in their stride.

On a more general note, really liked this chapter, really interested to see Decker and I guess this almost confirms that Caribou is a mud logia, cool!

Awesome chapter. The adventurous feel in this manga is some of what truly makes it great in my eyes.

Surume's kraaaaaaaaaaaakeeeeeen paaaaaaauuuunch was pretty badass… came out of fucking nowhere, had me laughing. Really reminds me of the the octopus from Strong World and the way he punches just adds to it. Definitely digging that!

I didn't liked the chap that much either, I mean it was a nice chapter but not an exciting one (to me, at least) I get the point that this is a transition chap and we will eventually find the full action later on so I'm not so worried…

Still, there's certain thing that I just can't learn to love thus far... Chopper's path to cutecy hell... I liked the early design and the fact that is getting "cuter and cuter" is already starting to bother me... I remember Skypiea Chopper who was funny, just a little cute and yet badass… that's what I liked about he. Now everytime I see him on a panel I can help to think I am seeing in fact the pet of the Straw Hats...

How does that make "monster trio" canon? I don't read it that way at all. It's just Nami commenting on their strength.

Personally, i'm almost certain the concept isn't canon at all. It's just how the Mangastream guy translated it. It could easily be something like "now that those three strong guys are gone" or something like that.

Besides, how the would Caribou know of the concept? It seems likely to me that it was just the translators preference rather then the literal translation.

Just to reheat something from the spoiler thread, but this chapter has given us a possibility of how the marines might have gotten san juan into Impel Down - as a sea giant the bluegori could have pulled him down into Lvl6 through the sea - they'd need a large airlock, but it's better then the absurdity of him going through lvl1-5. His nickname "colossal battleship" may just allude to the fact that he's a very large sea giant.

I really enjoyed the chapter. It was great that they took refuge in Zoro's bubble. I don't have an issue with Chopper and his cuteness. He didn't really have any friends before the Strawhats, then he is separated for 2 years away from them. I think it sort of nice seeing how much Chopper bonded with Luffy.

I was expecting Franky to punch through the barrel and knockout Caribou. This also proves my earlier statement that Logias turn to their form at their whim.

Luffy training the Kraken was awesome. I want to see these scenes animated. I can't imagine how beautiful the Jelly Fish will look.

About that Monster Trio part. I checked the raw, and with my non-existent Japanese skills that part seems to be written as 怪物3人組, which is romanized as Kaibutsu 3-Ningumi. Kaibutsu seems to mean monster, and 3-Ningumi trio, so the right translation really is Monster Trio. But maybe someone could confirm this?

I read the earlier comments, and it seems like the term was already used in chapter 455. I knew I had heard that in the manga before.

Caribou mentioned in earlier chapter he was surprised to see the Kraken in that area. Van der Decken called him an "Arctic Kraken" insinuating it was unusual for it to be in that area. I'm hoping these statements are related to the Kraken being far from home making it more likely he will travel with the crew for a while.

If it wasn't for the bruises on his face from the punching I was going to suggest it was an air hose and the black thing on his head was a diving helmet.
But that does make more sense.

Franky MVP of this chapter. Him slowly finding Caribou while the latter was orgazming over his brilliant schemes was hilarious. And Oda seems to have used the original story for the Flying Dutchman, as Brook told it, but all magic should be handled by DFs, so I'm curious how that will turn out.

A nice character moment with him too. "I'm used to being alone." Daaaaw I fucking love Brook. Robin warning Chopper was nice too, but Chopper is a medic, he should probably know better.

Oda is really cramming everything he knows about the deep sea into these chapters! Plus awesome youkai. Though it's kind of contrived that not only do the SHs stumble upon the legendary Flying Dutchman (whose backstory is amazing btw), but at that precise moment the volcanic shafts choose to erupt (or do they erupt fairly frequently? Though if they did I don't imagine Van der Decken would choose that place as an area to wander around, unless he didn't know beforehand). Also, I must have missed something, but how did the Monster Trio find their way back to the TS? Did Surume just sense where they went?

This chapter was so jam packed I was forced to use a computer with a larger screen.

Can't wait to see Van der Decken's character design!

I actually agree with you. well chopper looks really cool now in his reindeer form but other than that I get the impression that he's just there to be cute … which is really sad coz he could pull off so much more. -___-

I dont see any bubbles surrounding the ship. So how does the crew survive down there and especially a DF-user shouldnt be able to live there.
Only fishman could handle that, thats why i somehow doubt that van der Decken will be a DF-user.

I wonder how the Flying Dutchman is going to be explained, because it didn't seem to be coated. And as we know, Brook, zombies and ghosts were all explained with Devil Fruits, so I doubt that there really exists anything like cursed, eternally living pirates. But maybe this is an exception, but I don't think so.

The silhouetted crew have to be fishmen, but what if the captian was a fishman who ate a fruit and thats why he has a ship to sail underwater? Wouldn't explain why most likely moves comfortably under water, but could be interesting. I am hoping for a no fruit powered fishman.

Also, only 1 of every fruit exits at any given time. No 50 year regrowths.

The best of this chapter was obviously Zoro blaming Nami and the others getting lost with the GM, not himself and Luffy/Sanji.
