I like the way women are portrayed in One Piece. Strong, independent, sex object. Any women who doesn't want to be betrayed as an sex object needs to shut up and make some babies.
Stop confusing Naruto for One Piece.

Oooo. This is a tough one.
The fact that Thriller Bark didn't happen quick enough to introduce Brook and Moria so I could play as them in Unlimited Adventure and be stuck waiting for an American release that's never gonna happen.

Did you mean to say "portrayed"? talk about a fruedian slip…
as for the actual topic, I would say that the zombie generals being taken out by Oars in Thiller Bark was dissapointing, but I think lots of people have said that. so I'll add something new and say that Usopp not getting a proper 1 v 1 fight during Eines Lobby was kinda dissapointing. I liked how it turned out, but it could've been cool...
Japan didn't invent harems…
But they've also had it for a while now.

And while we are on the topic of women. Robin's new hair and rounder face still look off to me. I like her old angular look more damn it.

Same here, I really don't like her new style. Her hair and clothes were much much much better before.
waiting each week for a new one to come out QQ
I love Robin's new hair. I don't know if I love the hair/glasses combo though. I can't say I care for her clothes but it isn't something I am dwelling on, after all, Oda seems to change up the clothing of Robin and Nami much more then the other SHs. It's not like Robins new clothes are forever.

This is just me being me, but I loved her old bangs and now they are gone! Her old hairstyle is one of my favorite hairstyles
EDIT: to clarify I am talking aboot Robin
I'm completely okay with Robin's current design. I'm digging the whole semi-gypsi robe flowing look. Robin is one hot mama. Get her some Rikku like hair braids and I'm throwing all my chips in. Not sure if that would really work, though, but I'd be happy.
The general zombie's thing was a good one. I forgot about that until now but that totally decimated the rep. they had been given up until that point.
I was always disappointed in Hannyabal as a whole. I felt he was way underpowered and boring. I expected more from him in terms of strength because Magellan was such a monster and I never really latched on and sympathized a lot with his backstory like a lot of people did at the time on the forums (his whole scene with Luffy was really lost on me).

to be fair, he really never got into a fair fight

I wouldn't say he's underpowered. He was able to defeat both Buggy and Mr. 3 at the same time very easily. I wouldn't say he's Magellan's level, but he could be around Franky's or Brook's. Hannyabal just got stuck in some bad matchups and let his pervertedness get the better of him with Bon Clay.
Eh, I'd expect the vice-warden of impel down to be a lot stronger than Brook or Franky, considering the people he's in charge of keeping detained.
I personally think he was a good deal stronger than either of them, but still disappointing. It was more his character as a whole though than anything specific.
Biggest disappointment is the breaks.
I see where people get annoyed with size differences sometimes but he mostly keeps the main characters close to what they should be most of the time. Though he might draw them a bit bigger then normal to emphasize the/their importance at that moment.
I'm quite happy with how he draws most scenes, they have a good flow and energy. I'd rather have scenes with good body gestures and out of scale characters then boring body gestures and in-scale characters.

I totally agree about the scaling. I think it adds so much individuality to the manga that other mangas lack by being so overly concerned with ensuring everything is correctly scaled/in proportion etc. I think it is part of what makes One Piece so special and unique, that scaling is used as another storytelling device.
Breaks are always tough to bear, but I don't mind when it comes to Oda as he delivers with every single chapter, unlike many other authors.
This brought me some disappointment:
! Hopefully I'm wrong, but this is a sign that Oda's gettin' lazy.

Why is it Lazy to tell the story the way he wants to tell it?
I don't see the problem with him doing that with the hat.

The hat's fine, but the guy practically looks like a carbon-copy of Luffy. And xeroxing is lazy.

The hat makes the resemblance, in my opinion Roger's face (that part which is seen) looks more like Ace than Luffy.

Unless there is a reason they look similar
Remember the story is not finished yet - I think there is a lot more similar to Roger and Luffy then we think - how right I am is something only time will tell but I have the patience to wait.

I think he looks more like Ace, the more you look at it. I know the first time I saw it, I was like "OMFG LUFFY?!".

You sir, are blind. Luffy has been made to look like Roger in every aspect since the beginning of this series… Roger, Dragon, Garp, Ace ... they're all D's and similar in every way.
It's only natural that Luffy resembles the younger Roger... I think the opposite would have been strange.
The D's do look similar, but young Roger and Luffy almost look identical if you compare the two… IDENTICAL. Nobody wants that.
But I'm confident Oda hid Roger's eyes because they are different to Luffy's. He just wanted to show a similarity between Luffy and Roger in that page, to relate to Rayleigh's feelings on Luffy.
Saul looks so much like Luffy and Garp.
Pretty much the whole East Blue kinda disappointed me
Every time they would fight a new villain he would claim to be the greatest pirate, but in reality they pretty much all would have failed in the Grand Line. I think Oda just bigged them up too much is all.
@$abZ:

No, they don't.
Roger has Ace's jaw, smile, and nose.
The only similarity is the hat.
I'm just wondering how people has decided that Roger looks similar to Luffy.
^^probably the big ass grin, similar shirt and same hat. Those paying closer attention realized that young Roger was more similar to Ace.

Yes they looks identical, because you want it…no more no less. It's like when we thought that Ace and Luffy were blood brothers, it's was : of course they are brother, look at how they ressemble each other.
Here, like some have say, young Roger looks more like Ace than Luffy, but we have of course a lot of people to say "oh ma god, young roger iz exactly ze same as luffy"
We didn't see his eyes. That is a big difference between characters. The strawhat is the main reason people say they look a like.

You can tell that from the jaw?
Btw Ace looks a lot like his mom.
haha - ok. I should have been more specific. Young Roger's jaw is more similar to Ace's then Luffy's.
The hair's a bit closer to Ace and the jaw's a bit more defined. Obviously Oda drew him in such a way so that he'd physically resemble both Luffy and Ace.
Disappointment? The fact that Impel Down, for a place that housed the world's greatest and deadliest prisoners, was astoundingly poorly equipped to handle them. You'd really think the world's greatest prison would have at least a team of guys capable of quelling uprest from the strongest inmates, not just one.
Franctically searching for a spread of Fist of the North Star to display similarities in characters
I thought the whole point with the picture was the hat. Showed exactly why the hat was so important to Shanks in the first place.

The thing I really liked about the Impel Down staff is that they deviate from the standard of villains who work for the WG. Most of them are stand-up guys, just trying to make an honest day's living while serving the greater good. With everyone else (pirates and marines alike) having a "damn it feels good to be evil" attitude, Impel Down's guys are the closest thing to the common everyday working man.
Breaks? Are you being like "it's so good, just the breaks are bad" or are you actually complaining?
Love the series, just hate the breaks jump takes ever now and then. Would have figured after a month of no one piece there wouldn't be a break for atleast another month or two. shrug

To be fair, ID did have two guys who were supposed to keep shit in line. One just went rogue.

Right, that's what I thought you meant. Give the man a break, he works his ass off. For a series to be serialized weekly for this long.. and he doesn't skip as often as some authors. The chapters are consistently great, too. Man has to do some research and get some inspiration every once in awhile or just sit on the couch and get his hot wife to jump on it.
I'm sure someone else out there can come up with an even better reason why you shouldn't be complaining.
I'm pretty sure that for half of these breaks, Oda still works.
Hell, he only took one week off during September.

Totally agree with this. I think it is incredible that he is able to produce all these amazing ideas in such a diverse and complex environment week after week. He is a genius of imagination in my opinion and I am quite happy for him to take breaks as I think he deserves them.
Well perhaps. But think about it like this:
Do newspapers get one week off? Are normal working people able to go on so many "breaks" during the year and use their time off (it depends of a country but Japan for instance has one of the least time off = holiday - for instance here in my place that is 2-3 weeks per year+ the holidays + the years you have been working)
Now if we just take the last few months we have 2 months break plus this weeks break that's almost 70 days of a holiday+ the breaks in previous months.
What I am saying is you guys can not just say: "Shut up people who come here and whine about the breaks, Oda does a great job so he deserves those breaks!"
Ok so you can also say it at your work: Look boos I am doing a great job, I am going on a 2 month break now and in 1 month time you say, ok boss I am going on another week of break ok? and you keep repeating this stuff.." (does not work like this…)
Or what would you say if I don't know a weekly magazine you are reading went on a break. Does it happen? Of course not and it is not just because there is more than one person working on it too.
Like it or not we are reading the product produced by Oda and the Shounen jump basically and the quality of the product is not just in design, quality of a story and so on but also in the availability.
In modern world it simply counts.
And the most interesting thing of them all for me personally is the following:
Oda is said to be a few weeks ahead of the shounen jump publishing anyway (ment if chapter 605 is about to be released, Oda in reality has already done chapter 609 for instance)
So if that is true, I don't understand where is the problem in just releasing the 605 and 606 if he is on the break and when he comes back he works his ass off to come ahead of it again
Just like any other normal worker who goes on holiday comes back and has a lot of work waiting for him.
Yes please have your own opinion and go easy on Oda as you like, but don't get all patronising on others because they don't like the fact that the guy is able to take breaks like he "owns" the jump and jump doesn't "own" him.
He has a contract, he also is making a lot of money from the manga. People like to read it and in general it would be fair of him to be professional about it and deliver back with his attitude.
Like I said, people in normal world usually can't take holidays like he can, so it is normal for them to be unable to comprehend why on earth, he can. (plus add the bit even if he does, the manga could still come out normally knowing the fact he is ahead of the schedule in reality anyway)
That would be all, hope I didn't go in too harsh, just got tired of people who not only defend the weeks off but are telling others that they are being unreasonable "crying" about the breaks...
Stay nice to eachother ok?
While I agree with what you have said to an extent. It should also be factored in that the style of work requires a great deal of inspiration. While I am certainly no Oda, I have been working on my own comic for a while and it is extremely taxing trying to come up with a constant array of good ideas, fresh concepts and drawings to accompany this. Also I work a full-time job and while it is taxing, it doesn't exactly require constant free thinking and creativity, such things are naturally chaotic and thus can't be compared to a standard 9-5 and consequent holidays.
As an amateur comic book artist and an full time editor, it has become very apprarent to me just how difficult it is to work on a story that relies on a constant influx of ideas and free-wheeling concepts. Sure Oda has some help, but he also has to generate everything and has done for the past decade (ish). Book writers work for less time, so do artists on one picture - the nature of comic book art is ridiculously taxing.
Being a few chapters ahead is completely necessary as you never know when you might suddenly run dry, afterall you can't force ideas and drawings out. If he hit a wall and was only up-to-date with his chapters then what would happen?
Maybe you know this as well, but my point is that it isn't as simply as comparing to a standard job nor is it an easy thing by it's very nature. Presonally I am constantly in awe of someone who can do as Oda has so consistently and to such a high standard and, coming from where I am coming from, I find it more difficult to understand complaint unless the critics have experienced what it is actually like to do something similar to Oda themselves. Sure an opinion is fine to express and everyone's right, I just think a little perspective is needed sometimes to balance this. And I certainly don't mean this antagonistically :)
If Oda doesn't deserve his holidays, then his family does. He has two kids, and if I'm correct he only sees them once a week. This makes the breaks much more bearable for me.
