AP is going to implode the coming month.
Chapter 596: "Spectrum" Discussion
-
-
This is because chapter 597 is going to be an halmark chapter, Oda has to plan the post-timeskip changes, such as how characters in a few years or plan out what the post-timeskip story will be. This is big for him that he needs a 4 week break.
-
Well, I'm going to go ahead and say this will be the start of the APocalypse
-
would be hella cool if Sanji grew a ponytail and some truly noticeable stubble
Usopp would look badass with dreads, but he'd also look almost too much like his dad, so I dunno
and I don't know. I suppose Zoro could reveal the message, but I always just thought that this next chapter would entail Zoro saying he'd train too along with a surprise from Mihawk or Perona, followed by a Luffy and Rayleigh conversation that gives a bit more insight on Haki followed by a final confirmation of the timeskip
-
Ooh I like the idea of Sanji with a ponytail. That's be cool, you're right. Dreds are cool to, but yeah, maybe too much like the elder, more's the pity. We can hope, though, since he wants to emulate his dad, after all.
I think everyone will be filled out with a bit more muscle, too, as in more like Ace compared to skinny, gangly Luffy (except maybe Zoro, who seems to have gone through puberty already.) The girls are gonna be pretty much the same build, with different hair, perhaps. Everyone may have a new fashion look, too…
Yeah I can see the chapter progressing as you suggest. I wonder if he'll let us know what happens to TS and Shakky though. Or will it be a mystery until after the skip?
-
Hmm… not sure
I can't see him actually continuing that Kuma scene unless Kuma says something completely groundbreaking: something that is going to be incredibly important post-timeskip
It's more likely that once the SH get back to the ship after the reunion, Shakky says "I forgot to tell you; Kuma told me to tell you..." I imagine it's important enough, so Shakky's comment will most likely be the cliffhanger of that chapter
but then again, who knows why Kuma's there?
-
It's just we heard the sound of Kuma's attack ramping up, and I wonder about that–suppose it could have been someone behind her he was gona zap--lol. hat classic ploy.
-
Sanji with a ponytail would be awesome, like in the "Boss Luffy" specials.
I hope that whatever happens at SA, Shakky will somehow survive. It'd be helpful if she can fight like Rayleigh, cuz it really looked like Kuma was about to attack her (otherwise what was the point of the laser sound effects?). Kuma might somehow deliver a message. I'm still not clear on how a supposedly mindless cyborg would be able to find the ship so easily unless he still has some part that's still human. though it rather seemed like everyone knows where the Strawhats' ship is, what with the bandits.
-
Kuma showed up because he had forgotten to vanish the Sunny back in 513 and came back to fix that. He'll send it back to Water 7 where Galley-La will work on it some more and make it stronger too.
But in all seriousness, I don't think that'll be touched on before the Straw Hats get back to Sabaody, but I hope I'm wrong on that. I imagine next chapter will have Zoro explaining the message and gearing up for his bout of level-grinding against the monkeys, then we switch back to Amazon Lily with one last speech from Luffy explaining the situation before he starts his training with Rayleigh/Jimbei/Maguerite/Hancock/whoever. Just work on a loose end or two and then end.
If the next cover is a continuation of the ''what if?" with the people who have passed away in the Straw Hats' pasts like this one, I will fly over to Japan and give Oda a high-five.
And then the wait will begin… My head's going to hurt from some of the stuff that this forum will propose, I'm sure.
-
Since One Piece is going on break for an entire month, do you guys think a time skip will happen in the issue that One Piece comes back in?
-
I'm sure we'll all go stir-crazy and run out of things to say midway through the second week.
-
@Cyan:
I'm sure we'll all go stir-crazy and run out of things to say midway through the second week.
Damn right, worst month ever…. I'm definitely not going to look at spoilers when they surface for the issue One Piece will return in.
On the other hand, I guess I'll have a bit more time to get my college work done.
To keep it on-topic.... So that timeskip, eh....

And I guess this pretty much confirms a time skip, huh? I mean, I can't see another reason.~~
EDIT: Oh yeah, pretty much everybody saw that.

A little late, aren't we? We knew this since last week.

@.access:
EDIT: Oh yeah, pretty much everybody saw that.
I didn't see it until a few hours ago.
The month of September is pretty much dead to me now.
–-
Anyway, I want to be on topic but I don't know what to say about this chapter that hasn't been said already. Just still the cover was the most shocking part to me. I still can't believe Oda actually showed Sabo's adult form just like that.
And unlike the others I enjoyed Brook's. I don't know what it is, but those things that Brook says just really get at me. I guess I just take this series too seriously.
-
Maybe Oda wanted to make now a larger break, because he finally reached a point he aimed for since a long time.
Means the timeskip.
And with that reached he finished the "first half" of his manga (not literaly) and even when he has planned already whats going to happen next, he wants to have some time for himself and his family.
Maybe gathering and researching some stuff he want to use in the NW etc.I think for reaching such a groundbreaking point in the manga after which a lot of things will change (for example a bit differnet looking main charas) he deserves such a LOOOOONG break.
Ohh my god, this place will be like hell in that month..good that i have b-day, have to learn a lot for the university and other stuff to do than.
^^ -

So you think the timing of the scene in SA means Oda's burying/distracting readers from the whole TS/Shakky question with all this other SH stuff so we more or less are surprised with it (Oh yeah! TS! I forgot about that! Oh Shit!) when we get back to SA with the Shs? Interesting. Its not an unheard of literary device. It would be interesting, and of course could lead into the next adventure. Which brings me to…
My silly little idea, created during a conversation with Don Quichotte De Flamingo, is that if Kuma is now "dead" and in the hands of the military, they could be using him to please the mad as hornet Celestial Dragons that are gunning for Luffy. (They are supposed to be influencial, after all, and have the ear of the marines and the Gorousei). They could use the TS to lure the SHs and Luffy to Mariejoa to retrieve it, along with Shakky perhaps, since by protecting the ship she has a proven connection to them. Just a silly idea. LOL--something to chew over and spit out during the four week break, perhaps.

^^Yeah I think the break confirms the timeskip without a doubt, if any doubt still existed at this point, that is.
Oda must be exhausted after this past year's grueling schedule with the manga and the movie etc. Plus emotionally it puts the reader in the right frame of mind to take a break and come back after the time skip has happened to an older crew and a newly settled OPverse. We'll have had a break, too. It won't feel so abrupt, if you will. Good marketing, too.
-

I did ponder that possibility, of the Celestial Dragons being behind Kuma's appearance (since they can move around Admirals, no reason they can't do the same for a mindless Warlord), since Sharlia was swearing vengence in 514. I do think there will be a little breather arc involving them once the Straw Hats reunite to show off their new gizmos and such before heading off to Fishman Island. And if they are going to get a new crewmate before then, that would be a perfect time to break him/her in.
-
I have to agree putting the timeskip at the same point as the break is a good idea if it does happen. Some parts of me want to hold on to the fact it seems like Oda would not be the type to do a timeskip but all signs point to it happening.
Don - Seems like me and you are in the same spot for the month of September, I've got a bday coming up on the 20th, as well as I have university/graduate school. :)

Yeah I can't imagine we've heard the last of the Celestial Dragons, not after Oda made such a strong point of how influencial and powerful they are, and sicne the crew wants to get to FI and Mariejoa is right above it, geographically, (and the Gorousei are there as well) seems a no brainer that whatever arc that involves them ought to come then, but just because of that, it won't, lol! It's Oda after all.
-
@I:

It would not surprise me if that's the case. Oda did that same thing with Law showing up during the war to save Luffy. He practically spelled it out and then we wind up forgetting that fact a few chapters later, so it was still a super awesome moment. He's really good at distracting us.
Interesting theory about the Celestial Dragons and Shakky.
and if anyone deserves a break that long, it's Oda. He really works so hard and with such passion. I bet he's going to be thinking up lots of cool ideas in that time too.
-
yeah I'm glad the timeskip is during a month where I have afterschool sports and clubs along with school itself
would be a lot more grating if it was during a summer month where I have jackshit to do
-
I'm worried about the amount of a power growth in the SHs Post time skip. Based on the War we are transitioning into that DBZ phase of power ups. (or already have been). I just want Oda to avoid the Majin Buu/GT brand of power ups =/
But oda does deserve the break. In all the time of me reading OP i have never heard of him taking a break longer than a week. And he often takes that time to research.
So its well deserved. But i think mainly he wants to take that time to work out all of the plot holes. I don't think he has the New World as figured out as he did with the first half of OP.
-
Reopen the thread for it then.
I just took a look at it, it does come from a reliable source. (who's never been wrong, even when the official pages were)The Sabo and Supernovas threads are locked … :ninja:
-
I personaly believe we ll be seeing yet another "short" "rescue arc" when OP returns. Why?
Thousand Sunny will be taken away which will serve as an easy way to display new powers of the crew who has just reunited.
In my eyes totally unnecessary and draggy but at the same time I think this is how Oda will do it. (I hope not though)
-

I guess they won
t have time to slow down a bit. First of all Sunny will be missing. They have to head to either FI or MAryjoa after Shabondy to keep moving forward…so no peace there for sure. When you say that they should show off their new abilitys\strenght, i guess they must have strong opponents to do so. Normal fodder like always doesn
t rly need to be crushed with new moves.
Maybe Nami and Usopp would use here their new abilities but sure not the rest.
So for me a big adventure(FI or Maryjoa) would be more fitting to come up next.
It would set the tone and we know the SHs have big goals to reach..so why now messing around after the timeskip. -
the spoilers that are going to come today or tomorrow may wait another week or so if I'm concerned seeing we will have a one pieceless month coming.
I want the story to progress too. So no little arcs to show powers and gizmo's but a large arc with hard foes (perhaps Kuma in some kind of thousand Sunny rescue arc or whatever. The enemies have to be damn strong anyway to have a nice display of power.) I really haven't a clue what to think about Kuma being at the Sunny. Could it be that Shakky is damn powerful and actually defeated him? If that were so, the marines would just send someone more powerful. Maybe the marines send Kuma there to see if the SH's were all there since SA is the last place they have been seen together and Kuma probably has no knowledge about sending them off anymore.
-
I think Shakky sure is a strong woman(she was pirate, we don
t have to forget that) but against Kuma. I mean for what was than all the powerup of this chara. When they come back and Shakky just stands there having defeated Kuma one of the top tiers with his DF… NAhhh can
t imagine that:blink: -
indeed, me neither. So the most probable explanation is that Shakky and the Rosy Life Riders (or however they are called) are defeated by Kuma. It is obvious he has no more humanity when we know he used to be afraid of Ivankov and he didn't even recognize him/her anymore. Also, he said himself that he has little time left when speaking to Rayleigh. He is nothing but a mindless robot at this point, that was send there with a mission. Possibly destroy or take the thousand sunny for some reason and search the SH on Shabaody as that is the last place they were last seen together. Maybe he wants to extract information from Shakky as well because the WG might know of a connection between Shakky and Rayleigh and they might, in this scenario, get a gist of the plan that Rayleigh set up and what exactly happened AND know exactly at what time the SH's are going to meet up again and be there with a formidable cast of opponents awaiting their return to SA.
-
We have to think that the Celestrial Dragons ordered him to do so(or they ordered the WG\marines).
I already discussed it with BusterCall and i guess the most likely scenarios are:a) Kuma takes via his DF the TS to another place (maybe MAryjoa)
b) also takes Shakky ,which would drag Rayleigh into a rescueing arc
c) Kuma waits there for the SHs (defeats just Shakky and the rest)That he destroys the TS is out of question and that he has back his mind would just be..not fitting.
-
i was hoping that when the SH's get back to SA it'll be to years later so jopefully some more rookies are already there looking to pick a fight with the SH crew… and than the ass beating begins
-
we were just introduced to a shitload of Supernova (quite some time ago but still), is that not enough? They were all amazing in their own way.
-
I really liked this chapter.
Okay, it was not surprising, but I doubet Oda would just show the reactions of Sanji and Chopper alone.
It focused more on the strawhat's emotions. After I read that, I think the reunion will be more epicOh yeah, and Grown-Up Sabo kicks ass!
-

yes but remember what wb said when he died , there will be comming a shitload of new crews to gl/nw.

I suppose there is a rare outside chance the WG might have some suspisions that's Shakky has a connection to Rayleigh, they might even make a connection to the fact Ray is with Luffy at the moment to the fact that Shakky is with the TS (although given their seeming cluelessness up until now about a number of things, I somehow doubt it) but frankly we have no idea how old Shakky is compared to Ray, or if they were on Roger's ship together or met afterwards in retirement on AS, so making a connection between them would be a stretch for anyone.
The thing is, they don't need a connection to Rayleigh to have a reason to act against her. She is clearly guarding the SH's ship–that alone, at this point, is enough to indict her in their eyes. I had wondered, since she was a pirate and probably had a bounty of her own, why they would't just simply ship her straight off to ID, and came to the conclusion they might feel, based on Luffy's past behavior, that taking someone who seem to be a Nakama would be the best means of making sure he'd eventually come to rescue her.
I think there will be a rescue arc. It's what the SHs do.
-
There's already a thread for whining about the upcoming lack of One Piece.
Please use it and stop cluttering the chapter discussion thread. -
The chapter and time skip are interesting to think about. Any thoughts on what Pop Greens might actually be? And I feel strongly there's been a lot of strong hinting that there will be a physical breakdown for Luffy at some point in the future–I'm hoping whatever our friend Chopper learns is the what makes the difference for him. What do you all think? What will the breakdown look like? Will it be an illness or related to the abuse he subjects himself to with gear 2 and etc?
-
I'm thinking an illness. Roger and Yorki died of incurable diseases and Chopper's dream is to find a cure for all illnesses. If Luffy got a supposed incurable disease, then that would be a major step towards Chopper's dream when he would find a cure.
-
I think it was implied that Yorki died from the same thing that Nami got in Little Garden. One of the crew members mentions that he must have gotten it from ''that jungle island we stopped at the other day'', or something to that effect.
-

Yeah that's more or less where Oda seems to be putting a lot of the hinting, but I'm left wondering if the abuse he heaps on himself will make it all the more complicated and heartrendingly unsure of a happy outcome when the time comes, you know? The drama Oda can do so well (like the poison in ID–man that was hard to watch--er, ah, I mean read of course. (True confessions--I like both the manga and the anime, so far, lol)

Huh. I missed that reference. Now I gotta go back and reread it, lol. I love this series–the things you miss and go back for when new info comes up just never get old.
-
I hope the Pop Greens are kind of seeds which will instantly form strong lianas or such stuff.
ALso cool would be when some other Pop Greens would make some bodyparts bulg extremly quick.(actually they must have something to do with growing, because we just have to look at those enormous animals there) -

I love the idea of a temporary growth pattern from "popping" a pop green, lol. That seems like a cool idea. I had assume they were more along the line of an explosive.
-
@I:
Not sure what you mean by "lianas"–can you explain more?
Upps , i meaned lianes(you know Tarzen and stuff)
I kind of imagine Usopp shooting a Pop Green seed on a villain which than instantly grows into a strong and long liane ,which traps the villain.
Also cool would be when Usopp shoots a Pop Green to the ground and there than instantly grow some trees to protect for example the TS or the crew for some cannonballs. -
I think he means vines.

Yes seems like you might mean "vines" in English Don. And that is a great idea, as is the tree thing. That'd be cool too. It makes sense that whatever he gets from the island might ahve growth stuff related to it.
-
Ahh yeah vines^^
Wasnt sure and looked it up in a dictonary. Ehmm but what is a "liane" than ? :ninja:well, isn
t that important.also nice would be when he uses some Pop Greens on himself:
Like letting his fist grow..his nose grow..etc -

Like letting his fist grow..his nose grow..etcI looked it up in my HUGE dictionary (it's awesome–got it at a library book sale. Must weigh 10 pounds, lol) and you are right--lianes are exactly the sort of thick vine you mean, it's just not a commonly used word by folks outside of a juggle setting, I'm guessing.
...and on his nose. LOL! What a visual! I can see him raking people down by accident when he turns his head

he would be even funnier than before when he accidently gives the rest of the crew some of those Pop Greens.<– Oda could make gold out of it^^

Oh yeah. I can not wait to see what they are gonna be like after the break. Fun stuff awaits us, along with high drama and just darned good storytelling. LOL
(But, and I'm sure I'm in the minority here, I hope he doesn't do the obvious joke of growth beyond reason on the girls. Just sayin', but to me that'd just be tacky. How much you wanna bet, if they are about growth, that the anime does go there, though, even if Oda does not!)
-
Like i said a few times alread i rly hope the NW will be a darker place than the GL and this time for real.
Calling the GL as a paradise must have a reason, but remembering that people from EB said the same thing about the GL(being hell) i rly hope it finally will turn into such a place.
Haven`t seen that on the GL…it was most of the time not even close to that hellplace they all said it would be in my opinion.
We definitely need more pirates or bounty hunters who randomly go against the SHs.
Also the NW has to be darker in terms of what happens there.
Slavery we already know a bit about or the cruelity of the Celestrial Dragons sure make super cool points to build arcs around there.@I:

I don
t think the anime is good anyways, but when it goes THAT fucking low. Let
s hope it won`t happen…would be like puking on oneself^^
