! "The Death of Portgas D. Ace"
Ah, they're going with the: "this is what happens in this volume" title…I'm kind of disappointed.

Ah, what a pleasent way to tell the tankôbon-only readers what the volume's about.
Considering that last volume ended with Ace being fisted, and that the first chapter of this volume is the "Death of Portgas D. Ace" one, AND that the first page of each chapter has its title anyway, I don't think there's a huge spoiler there.
I mean, even us knew it because of the title of the chapter thread. And the people who read it on Shonen were spoiled the moment they saw the title of the chapter in which Ace died.
BTW: I totally called the title would be it.

Last volume ended with Ace getting magmafisted. I doubt that ANY volume-only crowd would have hold on to know.

Yeah, I know. Just wanted to throw in some aloof-sarcasm humor in there. :p
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
niiiiceee oooooone.
(and i was totally wrong)
Title is okay, since he got magma-fisted in the last volume
@CCC:
This. Duh. And not just the changing era, but the actual transfer of power from **W**B to **B**B.
Where are people getting red from? Ace received his killing blow in 58. He's dead after the first chapter in 59, so the majority of 59 is all about Blackbeard killing Whitebeard.Fill in the ??????:
57 = white
58 = 1/2 white, 1/2 black
59 = ??????I feel like I've seen this question before, possibly on an exam in kindergarden.
well, my friend, you failed.

Badass
Whitebeard and Blackbeard :wub:
So Jimbei is blue.
Amazing cover, one of my TOP 3.
And new record, 3,200,000 copias in the first edition ^^
How many copies have already sold Volumen 58?
@Sir:
So Jimbei is blue.
We already knew that…

Aw man, where's the crying Luffy?
What's up with his staff being red and yellow, though? What an awful design, Oda
How many copies have already sold Volumen 58?

@Sir:
Sure, I was just stating that he was still blue.
How could he even change skin color?

"Right!"

I happen to like that color, it's not a sin for a staff to have that color
Its a sin to have it multi-colored in stripes, though
The cover doesn't really catch the feeling I connect with this volume. It's much too colourful and… kind of happy.
It's much too colourful and… kind of happy.
It's the Kaze wo Sagashite of covers.
Seriously though, it's a weird choice for a volume kicking off with Ace's death.
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAT COVER! Can't wait till it makes its way over here.
@'ko:
well, my friend, you failed.
All rationality said it should have been black. Not like anything in your prediction was right either, besides "Luffy front center." And notice that nobody predicted "sickly yellowish." Not to mention the rest of the cover is a complete abomination; tooty fruity colors for the volume containing the only/first two major non-flashback deaths + Ace up in a fighting stance, when he's already dead by the end of the first chapter. Kaze wo Sagasite of covers indeed.
I don't really mind most of the cover, its nice to have it Yellow so that it doesn't get too sad, and after all, this is still a relatively easy-going manga, besides, Whitebeard is still in the badass position, Blackbeard in the badass-maniac-position-that-only-Bellamy-can-surpass, Shanks is with that serious look and both Luffy and Ace are in awesome positions
Its just that staff… man... that staff

Amazing cover -
The title they choose is also perfect.
I don't get what Jimbei has to do with anything on that cover. -.-

No different than Shanks really. A contribution to Luffy being able to escape after the trauma.
Cover looks pretty good from that small pic. Can't wait to see a bigger version.
Pretty cover, but I don't feel it's appropriate to the volume. I mean, Ace's already mortally wounded in the opening of very first chapter, and he dies 16 pages later. Luffy spends the rest of the volume in a coma, awakening with a serious depression by the end of it.
They could've maintained all the elements, but put Luffy hugging a mortally wounded Ace. The duo all happy and in action makes no sense at this point.
Amazing cover u
I don't really get what Jinbei is doing on it, but err, whatever, I guess~

Yeah, but Shanks has not been an active character for a lot of time, so it makes sense his presence on the cover just for him showing at all. Jimbei is just a guy thrown there to fill space, Sengoku would have been a better fit, but it would have been even better if there were just WB, BB, Luffy, Ace and Shanks.
I like the cover a lot anyway, just pointing out that I think that Jimbei doesn't belong there.

you may not believe me, but i totally agree with you, this cover sucks. and it's anti-climatic, just like the end of the war BTW.
my post was just caused by the irritating tone of your previous message

Oh, ok. I'll be sure not to irritate you again.
Wait why Jimbei and no Croc and Sengoku and Akainu, this sucks…..
The cover is white in the background the sickly yellow colour you guys are seeing is flames.
Jimbei is there for obvious reasons as he is the one who takes Luffy after Ace dies…

! "The Death of Portgas D. Ace"
KOBE!
But I do think the cover could have been a little more appropriate. Action and chaos definitely aren't themes of the volume, which is what the cover is tells us. Ehhh.
They could've maintained all the elements, but put Luffy hugging a mortally wounded Ace.
I agree with this. It would have been keeping more to the theme of the title, and the chapter content thereafter.
However, I do like the fact that this cover has Blackbeard doing his dramatic posing and Whitebeard still looking grimly determined despite his injuries. Shanks and Jinbei I feel indifferently about. It's not really that bad of a cover, but I do have to admit that there's nothing about it that really knocks me out of my shoes, unfortunately.
I don't know, personally I could do without a crying Luffy hugging his dead/dying brother on the cover of a volume…
I really like the cover. The colours, the characters and everything. Maybe there's a little "too much" but still good though.
I like the volume cover. Ace and Luffy together (not Ace dying) deserved to be on one cover…while more appropriate for 58, I'd rather see them together at least once in the entire series on the cover of a volume.
Whitebeard, Shanks, and Blackbeard were givens. No way this cover wouldn't have had those 3.
Jimbei's placement is a little weird though. He's so large it just makes him seem more important than he is in this volume. It would have made more sense to make him a little smaller to squeeze in Crocodile and Buggy...or Hancock...or Law.
I kind of get the feeling Jimbei is there for color contrast....overall Buggy might've been a better choice.
After all, at Blackbeard's introduction, he was on the cover of volume 35 with Shanks and Buggy...would've been interesting to see something similar on volume 59.
Wow, I had no idea that Whitebeard was fighting with a candy cane. :ninja:

So Whitebeard is now a shepherdess and his sons are his herd? Brilliant, just brilliant.
The cover would have been better if last volume ended with Ace newly free and with Luffy. But…yeah, he's dead one chapter in and Whitebeard dies too.
If they were going to throw this as the cover, then they at least could have maybe snuck Blackbeard or Law on there as well. (or at least make up for it next volume with maybe a nice pic of the Dawn Island cast including Dadan and Makino)
Damnit Jimbei was chased by Akainu like a bitch. While Sengoku was gangbanging the BB pirates and Cr faced Akainu one on one.
I thought Croc was one of Oda's favourites:sad:

This looks like something 4Kids might have done with the scene…
Actually…rather than Jimbei, Croc, Buggy, Hancock, Law, Akainu, or Sengoku...Koby may have been the most appropriate character to stick in Jimbei's spot on this cover.
I mean considering this whole saga started way back in volume 45 which had Luffy, Ace, Blackbeard, Whitebeard, and Shank as well....Koby, Helmeppo, and Garp also were on that cover. I think Koby would've been the best choice for volume 59 in Jimbei's spot.
Thats a good point Vongola boss.
