At first, I thought this thread was about the one with the rap in it, which I thought was pretty awesome.
I don't really mind this one as much as some of you guys do, but I definitely see where the rage stems from. This song would fit a lot better as an ending, and even then, it's kind of iffy.
I mentioned earlier that the new opening makes me think of old Saturday Morning cartoons, or something similar to that. The cheesy vocals and upbeat tempo made me think of the '80's. So I decided to make the following video in lieu of that:
ZDdvSB6NTYo
Here´s a live performance
…....Well, I thought the opening was ok at first but with out the OnePieceness that makes the song look awesome, the song looks really, really REALLY Gay.
EDIT: Look at the guys in the green at the background lol
mmmm, opening is meh…. starting to like it actually. Though if this was a song to something other than One Piece I doubt I would feel the same.
The song itself is bearable but the the entire package… not as much. Toei should really change the opening as soon as they can. If Detective Conan can change both its opening and ending every 10 episodes, Toei should change it at episode 436 so we can start liking the openings again.
Also, Believe is a cookie cutter Eurobeat song? Believe IS a Eurobeat COVER of an awesome song called Dreamin' of You by Lolita. Ready! is a cover of Baby One, Baby Two by her. Folder 5 covered alot of stuff. Regardless, what's wrong with EUROBEAT?
ITS AWESOME AND INITIAL D IS MOAR AWESOME WITH IT. EUROBEAT RULES. IF YOU HATE IT, GO RUNNING IN THE 90s.
The thing wrong with it is that they use it for far too many episodes, and end up spoiling the story 13 weeks too early by throwing in Opening 3.
There should have been an Alabasta-specific opening.

That would be at least 75% better with only the three girls and no grown men embarassing themselves.

..seriously? that's much worse
Yeah, but it balances things out. It was so far to one extreme I needed another extreme to put things back in the middle.
However, if you want a QUALITY balance…

i just finished this. its what one piece would be like if we kept believe as the opening
excuse the english version, i didnt have the original tv size on me
That worked out pretty well. I still say one piece needs a danceman opening though…

I DID originally make it…
Let's admit that one piece openings are getting worse. Because they ARE. WE ARE = best opening, in my opinion…second best, WE ARE done by TVXQ as opening 10

nah We Are sucked, this song is only slightly worse.
hey ! i noticed a little something while i was making my "fake opening". In the scene where Luffy falls from the sky he wears his blue shirt. But it was revealed by the latest volume cover that the shirt he currently wears is yellow ! ^^
Well, when would he have changed clothes recently?
When Inazuma gave him his clothes the Candies presumably mad it yellow. Or something.

Kinda funny how in "Share the World" the accurately depicted Luffy's color as teal even though he had yet to get it by the point the song premiered but they didn't catch the color change this time around. I wonder if they'll color it yellow to keep in line with the manga or if they'll keep in teal to keep in line with the intro?
Funny how all the arcs since Thriller Bark have been color coded by Luffy's vest.
O-chan
I'm pretty sure it was already known in the manga that Luffy's vest color changed to teal, so that's why Share the World had it right. But Toei's been wrong about colorings before in their intros. Share the World has the white Blugori's for instance that was never fixed, but they were made blue for the anime's ID episodes. They'll likely keep the intro's teal vest, but change it to yellow for Marineford episodes.
I like this intro. The ironic contrast between happytime intro with the Impel Down arc and coming war is interesting. I'm not too worried about the target audience for the song, or what it implies. I just like the clash.
I though that was a pretty gutsy thing for Toei to do, given the massive turning point the series is at, I wish them all the best.
The fifth opening, Kokoro no chizu, has not yet been bettered in my opinion.
I love that song so much, I've got it on my ipod.
One Piece was never really a show that had powerful's OP's or ED's for me, with the exception of ED 9 and 11 and 12 and 16. Well never mind, but mostly it's the story that kept me watching. I personally didn't think much of the recent OP until I read this thread. It seems those against the OP make a really good point about it not fitting the theme of the arc.

This post has made me think about the intro in a way that maybe the first half is ment to be shown as the happy times between the straw hats but then the dynamic changes when it shows the split between everybody.
Every opening so far has been "shounen." This one clearly wasn't. It was more "shoujo" or "akachan"(I know that's not a genre). It clearly doesn't fit. And with all Oda's been talking about lately in interviews and sbs with wanting to keep One Piece strictly shounen, I'm surprised Toei had the balls to give him such a slap in the face.

This is kinda subjective to opinon. But Brand New World and Kokoro no chizu were powerfull and they moved me.
I loved most of the endings as well. Lot's of great songs.
Toei started to drop the ball around Enies Lobby.

A slap in the face? Really? Also, there have been a plethora of different types of music used for shounen openings, so how can one determine what kind of opening song isn't 'shounen'. I fail to see how the song doesn't fit One Piece. It certainly fits more than the past couple of songs.
@Kouji:

I guess this has to be repeated every couple of pages for newcomers: Anyone who lives in Japan or is familiar with Japanese culture knows that that song is meant only for babies, toddlers, and little girls. It's the equivalent of the Sesame Street song or "Hey Barbie Let's Go Party."

Sorry, I don't buy it. I've seen shounen series with opening songs that range from hot blooded rock to bouncy, catchy love songs.
It's done by some chick from Morning Musume.
It's not shounen. And it shouldn't be a One Piece opening.
Sorry, I don't buy it.
Said the poster from Tacoma, Washington who has seen some anime.
The opening is pathetic. But it's here to stay and hopefully won't happen again because of the reaction this one garnered.
It's very clear WHY they didn't act on this opening because it basically gave birth to a sub-unit of the Hexagon assembly-line-style pop-'artists' and with so many major names riding on it not to mention famous figures in showbiz coughShinsukecough** there's no way they could have taken it off without slapping a lot of important people in the face.
And they all lived happily ever after.
What are you guys talking about, Sobakasu is a great opening.
…. oh, wrong era.
I don't think it's that great of a song, but I also don't think the song is THAT far a cry from what One Piece is.
I suppose my groundbreaking opinion is "meh."

Y'know the way people are reacting to this its like One Piece is some sacred cow and how DARE it have an unfitting opening song. Seriously, its not the first popular anime to do this and it definitely won't be the last. But yeah…usually these openings with their j-pop bands being promoted don't really get taken off unless something controversial happens (I'm thinking the 4th Avenue Cafe Ruroken incident). I got used to the opening quite some time ago. It's different but not to the point of being bad.

Wow, really? Is this really that serious? Whatever, I'm still not convinced that this is all that bad of an opening. It's still better and more fitting to the series than the other stuff we were getting recently. I wasn't aware that opening theme songs were that big a deal.
Frankly, the series hasn't had an opening song that truly fit it since the first one. Everything since then has been nothing but flavor of the week, just like the most recent entry. Some worked, some didn't, people moved on. The only reason people's panties are in a bunch is because the current arc is 'dark and gritty' for 'serious, mature people'.
It's One Piece, not Claymore or Death Note. I doubt the show's ever going to have a 'hard edged' opening theme. You're free to dislike the song, but acting as if it's the worst thing that could happen to the show and damn near attacking those that disagree with you? Now that's pathetic.
Said the poster from Tacoma, Washington who has seen some anime.
I'm sorry what does that have to do with anything, this guy's opinion is as valid as anyone else's.
How can you say with absolute certain what piece of music fits in a 'Shounen' anime and what don't. Does, Dvorak's Symphony No 9, fit in a 'Shounen' anime?
No, why would classical music fit in a children's tv show, that's ridiculous.
Fair enough if you don't like the new opening, but you are also not the final authority on anime music.
And when you start saying someones opinion isn't valid because they live in Washington and have not seen every anime on the planet, my bullshit detector starts going haywire.
Hey, I'M from Tacoma Washington, and I'VE seen some anime too!!!
I can't see this opening being any worse than say, Bon Voyage, which was a huge letdown after the awesome Hikari E.
I doubt they will do this again, however. I'm definately in the minority on this one.
