I hope you're not suggesting anything…
-
Editing the dialogue to make it fit is stupid and lazy. REAL dubbing companies actually spend the time and effort to match the flaps without taking any shortcuts.

And how would you go about doing that?

Something I've noticed, and I suppose we can chalk this up to Dragon Ball Kai, but we have yet to have a week with two episodes to upload. I'm curious how this might change in coming years, if FUNimation will make a big deal out of 'two new episodes this week!' or whatever.
Gah, I wish FUNi was simulcasting DBK!!

So do I. There are a lot more Dragon Ball/Z fans than One Piece. I like them both, and it would support the Dragon Box releases, in a way.
On topic now! Tonight's episode is the start of Impel Down!
-
New episode up~!!!!!
-
An awesome episode, Richie was just hilarious I missed him xD. Domino's voice sounded perfect, and Hannibal made me laugh, animation was ok for this episode. I'm just so happy that I can watch One Piece 1 hour after it airs in Japan and with professional subbing. Next episode is going to ROCK, Buggy returns oh and I think Blugoris will be shown.
-
I hope the anime did not screw up the Blugori's colors due to the opening.
-
Good episode but what the hell was with, "I'm gonna learn you a lesson?"
-
-
Is it just me, or has Richie shrunk in size exponentially since the Buggy Arc?
-
Good episode but what the hell was with, "I'm gonna learn you a lesson?"
I noticed that too
Good episode. This arc is going to be fantastic animated!
-
Who said it? Maybe their accent makes them sound like a hick.
-
Whenever I try to watch the official simulcast, I just get an "error" message. Anyone know what the problem might be?
-
Do you live in the US?
-
Awesome episode! I can't wait to see Buggy and all the other returning cameos in this arc!
Richie does seem to shrink every time we see him. oO Next time he will be the size of a kitten.

They were in the next episode preview. Blue.
Good episode but what the hell was with, "I'm gonna learn you a lesson?"
Also "Those are well-suited for hide something inside". The subs must've been rushed for this episode.
-

I dunno, I've heard people speak that way in an informal manner in English. "I'm gonna learn you a thing or two".
I haven't seen the episode yet, but if the character was speaking somewhat informally, that could have been their way of portraying that. Like how in their Dragon Ball subs, they have Son use things like "Aint" and other bits of Bad grammar to get across his hick-ness.
The other thing is obviously an Error though
-
Great episode! I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see Buggy, but I know for a fact we'll see him next episode, so it's cool. The part with the Buggy Pirates was hilarious, especially Richie's food fantasies. Hannaybal's voice was freaking funny(well the change in it was) Can't wait for next week.
-
Good episode, although all these sub errors are kind of distracting. But hey, it's better to support the series' official subs, then to ruin FUNi's good intentions by watching fansubs.
-
Ok, I just saw the Episode, and "Learn You a Lesson" wasn't an Error.
Prisoners said it, and they said it in a Crude way, it was the FUNi translator's way of getting that across. Plus, "Learn You a Lesson" is a Popular "Uneducated" way to say it, Ubran Dictionary even makes fun of it.
-
the only thing i didn't like about tis episode was the richie food thing, it seemed overplayed and i jus tdidn't find it funny
-
To bad Minatarous(what ever) didn't have spikes on his club like the manga. It looks down right vicious there, but now it looks pretty lame.
-
Ah, Hannyabal. Your silly voice and your slips-of-the-tongue will lead you to great things.
This episode was actually not bad. The parts with the Buggy Pirates were well-played out. Impel Down looks great animated, too.

This is all exactly right. When subbing, should you always focus entirely on making each and every line suitable for an English class or something? And what do you do when faced with characters speaking slang?
The answer is simple. If a character like a pirate prisoner is talkin like some idiot behind bars at your local jail cell, are you gonna hear things like "We are going to teach you a lesson."? On the contrary, these guys are gonna be all but proper English.
Gotta love Hannybal's voice. Suits him well.

The quick change of his tone was really funny, I enjoyed it a lot. It really did crack me up.
Was I the only one who thought we didn't need 3 "Richie's Hungry" jokes, and after the first one it was already overdone.

One would have been more than enough.
-
The Ritchie joke is a good example of something that works much better in comic book form than when animated. In the manga, it's just another detail added to a couple panels where everyone are talking, while in the anime is has to be singled out and focused specifically on, making it much more in-your-face, killing the entire joke in the process.

I feel I've heard his voice in another anime, but I can't figure out where. Something very recent too…
While I didn't lmao of the Richie joke, I didn't hate it either.

This is true.
-
first time was fine when they commented on it, but they kept focusing on it, and it just got lame
-
It should have been kept in the background "while" everyone was talking. It would have been funnier. Then agian, that whole scene on the ship seemed a bit poorly directed.
-
Yeah, really wonky looking animation and still shots.
-
They try to save money wherever they can.
-
Mohji's head was pretty giant though.
-
@dirt:
Mohji's head was pretty giant though.
It's supposed to. It's like that in the manga too. His hair just keeps growing.
-
I think the overly long Buggy Crew stuff was simply to pad the episode a bit. Frankly, I would have preferred more random scenes of Imperial Down. Or even better, more Garp/Ace conversation.
-
head
not hair -
I hope Mohji keeps having a new hairstyle every time he appears.

I loved that bit. Seeing that bunch was just hilarious and nostalgic. It also really made me respect Mr. Oda a lot to have these first arc characters still have an effect on the story complete with character retention and even some character development.
-
@dirt:
head
not hairMy point is that his hair makes his head look bigger.
-
Well at least they stuck to the manga with this episode.

Hulu plans to start charging for content by next year.

Don't get why people complain about paying for something that, I dunno, took money to make in the first place. Hell, if they charged us to watch the simulcast, I'd pay for it, to support the series.

Urgh. Time to start using my damned television set again. Or just start hitting up torrents once again.

Good thing I watch the simulcast to get my weekly dose of One Piece.
-
I won't be charged for going to FUNi's site, so who cares?
-
Wasn't the entire point of Hulu to be free? I use it to watch episodes of House or Fringe that I miss so I guess I'll have to start using torrents :getlost: .

I would too, but Hulu's different. It's supposed to take the place of TV, and it's going to be doing a bad job of that if it charges.
