Chapter 935: Queen
-
So the jailbird is going to bust out with Raizos help and cause a scene, Luff is gonna get the key and expand upon the scene causing. Then they'll get funkily cornered because queen is so damn great and that's when the Chopper operated BM bot will enter and make the scene into an entire movie. That's atleast what i expect from the next few chapters.

But not before sanji gets his pervert chapter going in mixed bath with his new dream gear. I hope he finds kaidou's bath instead and gets luffy'd.
-
Yeah some scenario hopping is bound to happen. Maybe next chapter will be entirely disconnected from this one and we can finally see Oro-dude with a bandaid on his head/s or some exposition on what happend to Pageru wanu. Now that it's been so long that people have lost interest maybe Oda will be alright with finally putting those events out there. And on an unrelated note i do wonder how queen fights, and how his mecha parts fit into his animal form. Is the mecha arm still an arm when he's like a megazord or whatever he transforms into, or is it like a randomly placed mecha arm in the chest or something weird like that? These are things to ponder.
-
I really prefer the crab puns from the scans.
-
Queen doing the Running Man is easily one of the best and most hilarious moments in One Piece. Also, his triple take is going to turn into a meme very soon.
-
Queen when Kaido becomes the Pirate King: We are the champions
Queen when someone interrupts his show: Don't stop me now
Queen if he had Pica's fruit: We will we will rock you -
Didn't the samurais act like sexually repressed perverts on Zou? And now we have mixed bathing in the capital? Or do I remember that wrong?

Orochi's a perv so I assume he changed the rules of the bath houses since they've been gone.
As for the chapter. It was fantastic! Damn, Queen is great!!
-
I called Luffys powerup from training in seastone.
-
Anyone else noticed Minatomo(Carpenter Boss) in the bath house?
-
People were saying Queen would be an okama and then he pulled out his literal no homo Komurasaki card. Smooth, Mr. Eiichiro.
-
Just gonna throw it out there, Solitaire and Daifugo are probably the best smile users so far in terms of appearance/powers. It's good to see they aren't guaranteed to disadvantage the users. Babanuki is also interesting. At a glance, I thought the elephant's lower jaw on the page where it's shooting was a neck leading out from Babanuki's belt. Figured the belt might have been some kind of device that helps him control the animal parts and hide them when they weren't needed, which would have been cool tech. But no, it's just fixed to his chest like normal.
I wish we could have seen more of Luffy's breakout attempt. It feels like we cut very quickly from it starting to him being caught and served up for judgement by Queen. I'd even have sacrificed a page of the bathhouse (blasphemy!) for a bit of that.
Queen is… interesting. I hope now that we've seen a bit more of him people are going to stop saying he's an okama. I've sung the praises of okama on here before, I'd love to see more of them and have Oda doing different things with them, but Queen seems to have got the reputation of one via the name alone. He doesn't dress feminine, he doesn't have different pronouns, he's apparently straight. It's like people around the place and out on reddit totally forgot about the deck of cards theme. Overall I like him, the "top three things you're worried about" bit was hilarious and I'm sure there's some good backstory behind the robot arm.
Zoro's sword being stolen again as a way to hook him into a plot thread is meh. I"m sure he's getting involved in something good, but the setup is meh.
Not sure how I feel about the many pages of bathhouse in the chapter. On one hand it's easy, shallow fanservice of a kind Oda easily dips into. On another, it was a kind of fanservice I enjoyed, even if it's not really necessary and not what I come to One Piece for. And Oda wouldn't be the first fantasy author to use characters discovering another culture has different taboos/lack of taboos about nudity and gender mixing as a worldbuilding thing. Plus it does feel accurate to how Japan was in the period Wano is based on, based on things I vaguely recall reading once. That is an experience that can happen when you travel. Eh, even with the best possible interpretation, I'd say the scene outstays its welcome just a little. Like I said above, I think at least one page of the scene should have gone to the prison instead.
Not much to say about Hyogoro yet. Wait and see if and how he lives up to his reputation and how he fits into everything. Offering up his own life to save Luffy is a great start.
Good to have the fishbone prisoner confirmed at last. If I never read the words "lurking legend" again it'll be too soon. It'd be just like Oda to subvert expectations with a really weird looking otter monster for Kawamatsu, but I think this time I'd prefer he go traditional and just let a cute otter be a cute otter. And I really hope the actual reveal is next week. After all this build up, it'd be painful to wait any longer now we have the name.

Queen is obviously his fan because he's jelaous of her beauty and he whishes to look like her.
-
So I'll take the bait and ask if Kawamatsu is Bone Spitter than who is the Manslayer?
-

It seems very likely that he is Denjirou. Their silhouettes, namely the hairstyle, matches. No idea who the Witching Hour Boy is though.

Maybe because fan-fictions aren't exactly facts?
-

Queen when Kaido becomes the Pirate King: We are the champions
Queen when someone interrupts his show: Don't stop me now
Queen if he had Pica's fruit: We will we will rock youQueen when she met Big Mom : Bohemian Rhapsody (Mamaaaaaa, oooouuuuu)

Queen was so great.
I'm excited to see Kawamatsu's proper reveal. I wonder if he has some limbs missing.
-

I thought so to until I retread the page where they mention him
They specifically say "As you all probably know the culprit is none other than Kamazou the manslayer, even though he is known throughout the country he has yet to be apprehended"
If he is known throughout the country, how can he be another famous samurai from 20 years ago with a different name?
I'm not a 100% certain on this theory since like you said there hair styles in the silhouette look exactly alike and Shutenmaru ended up being ashura douji, so it's not like this kind mix up can't happen

https://jaiminisbox.com/reader/read/one-piece-2/en/0/921/page/10If Asura Douji can be roaming around Wano all this time under the alias of Shutenmaru, then I don't see why Denjiro can't do the same.
Realistically, there's only two options left for Denjiro's identity. Either it's the most likely option of him being the Manslayer, whose silhouette actually matches Denjiro's. Or it may be the person that stole the blueprints for Kaido's mansion, though I suppose it's not impossible that they may be one and the same.
The only other mysterious character left is the Witching Hour Boy, but it is very likely that that isn't Denjiro if Shutenmaru's reveal is any indication.
-
I've read some Points about the bone spitter being a Mink and gotta say: the arguments are quite good.
Another question that Comes to mind is: which hat-guy the hell was with Crocus at Reverse mountain if the hat-guy is in prison since 2 decades?
Calico Yoki would be an Option.
I know, Queen can't be Franky's dad, but Queen has this robotic arm AND did a nice intro-Dance (just like Franky did in HIS intro).
And yeah, Iva also had such an entrance… -
Oh man… Queen is a real hoot.
The dancing, and his reactions to the bad news.... gave me a good laugh.I'm struggling to guess what kind of DF he'll have.
If its keeping in line with Jack/King , it'll be an Ancient type zoan...though his title of plague bringer.....hmm...

I say we shouldn't focus too heavily on the title. After all, mammoths aren't really associated with drought and pteranodons don't usually bring wildfires.
Personally, I want Queen to be a brontosaurus or some other long neck. It'd look both intimidating and goofy.
-
I like OP physics: the suppression of the powers of a DF user depends on the amount of sea-stone, but also it depends on the amount of the user's will power. So will power can change material facts. Cool. It wouldn't be weird if in the future we see a warrior with great will power who is inmune to sea-stone.
Isn't the three penalties pointing to a maimed prisoner? Because the story of a maimed brave samurai (Kawamatsu) can be great; it reminds me of Living with one leg.
Also what's the utility of the invisible outfit in a unisex bathhouse? Much more if he's the only one with the nosebleeding power.
-

I think that's exactly the joke Oda's going for with making the bathhouse unisex.

What I get is that sea-stone nullifies the DF regardless of its amount, but on top of it it also drains a DF user from their strength. We have always seen they not only become unable to use their abilities, but are also numb or something like that whenever they are in contact with sea-stone. The amount of sea-stone determines how much it awakens the DF user aside from depriving them from using their "DF-powers", but will power allows them to fight back the general nerf (just like it does with anything in any manga).
-
I find it a wee bit weird that Luffy has had no problem using haki before while at deaths door - like, that other time he was in prison and were poisoned and freezing AF - but here he apparantly cannot, while simultaneously dropkicking a Yonkou officer to the face.
But then again, haki is not exactly known for its consistency as a concept.
Apart from that the chapter provides some wonky pacing once again, but also some fun times at the prison with Queen, easily the best Beast pirate so far.

Here are some trivial information about Grandpa Hyo and Queen’s pun.
In this chapter, Oda drew the young days of Grandpa Hyo. He looks like a famous Fudo Myouou statue (Wisdom King/明王).
In chapter 921, Kaido was said to be the same "Wisdom King" who protects Wano country. It is known that Yakuza people love Wisdom King tattoo.Maybe Oda wants to hint us that Hyo will take the position of Kaido and protect Wano with Momonosuke peacefully after Kaido gets defeated..
[hide]
[/hide]***********************
There is a Japanese pun in Queen’s words. In raw chapter, he says “Ekisaito” (エキサイト) twice, which means “exciting”.
Queen’s epithet is “Ekisai” (疫災) in raw version, which means “Plague”.With that in mind, I’m impressed that Stephen translated them as “I’m plagued with excitement” and “Plague-a-licious!” .
Kudos to his professionalism.
I’m curious to know if Queen’s personality/DF will have something to do with plague or Oda just wanted to show this pun.

[/hide]Ooooooh this is good! Thanks for the insight, sandman!!
-
Dammit, that pun was great, thanks Sandman! Just adds to the comedy of this chapter. It got a good laugh out of me right in the morning. So funky!
Queen has been a blast so far. It's a shame he's not an Okama, since I love their vibe in OP, but oh well, he's fun anyway.
"Name your top 3 concerns, go! No. 3! - Kid has escaped - Whaaaaaaaat?
No. 2! - Someone stole the cuff keys - WHAAAAAAAAT?
No. 3! - Luffy is escaping as we speak - WTF, go after him NOW!"
Honestly, I think the comedy has been one of the best things about this arc so far, I hadn't laughed with OP as much as in Wano since the gold days of Skypiea, I think.

Translating puns has to be the worst part of a translators life.

Still going with Scorpion.

That Solitaire woman is like Oda's early design for a squid or octopus swords women in Arlongs crew. Well the typical slender body, multiple arms and each hand with a katana.
I wonder who among us condemning Sanji for wanting to peek on the women in the bathhouse were totally cool with it back at Alabasta when he and every body else did it? If you grew out of it great, Sanji hasn't and thats who he is. When Al and Bud Bundy peak in the girls locker room I get a kick out of it, when Sanji does I get kick out of it. Oh how detestable I am.
Speaking of the bath house, it's for everyone which once again brings us another element in which the suits purpose has a redundant ability. Of course thats just in Wano at this particular bath house, but still don't like it. Sanji already being capable of flight, being able to move so fast that he can't be perceived by the naked eye, fast enough to dodge a jelly bean from Katakuri, and not even noticing when he's taken gun shots makes me believe that the suits final destination would be for something else.
I get that the suit takes all those things to an extreme level but I'm still scratching my head why have Sanji demonstrate those things naturally if he was going to be handed those gifts later on? I'd say this coed bathhouse reveal was another point for Sanji to disregard the suit but the over all positive emphasis Oda put on the thing since it was revealed just tells me Sanji is keeping it. Oh woe is me.
Queen looks and acts so cool! Who was it that put up the Birt the Bashful comparison, Jyabra? Thats him lol. Can't wait to see his power and what that robotic arm is all about.
I like the idea that Kawamatsu is a quadruple amputee since he isn't working but I wonder how Oda would make him fight? I suppose he could have a devil fruit that makes him mobile and plenty dangerous.

I agree with you btw, the gag of Sanji being a pervert is funny especially because it's so absurd. Sometimes I think people just say they hate his perverted actions because they think they are supposed to say that? The fact that he does something that is obviously not ok makes the joke funny. But hey, if people wanna make a fuss about an obvious joke, I won't stand in their way. -
Octopus cleaning girls in a bath house. Interesting.

Actually spelling it out makes it sound like a cover page.

I agree with you 100%. A character can be allowed to be a pervert as a joke without it reflecting badly on the author. Especially because Sanji almost never succeeds in his perverted endeavors and usually gets immediate karmic payback. I don't see hating on Brook this much. Or on classic characters like Roshi from DB either who are way bigger perverts than Sanji could ever hope to be. I think the outrage over Sanji's perverted nature has gotten a little stale and forced, honestly.
-
Can't wait for Sanji to install some camera Den Den Mushi in the women's toilet. Since he embraces technology now he might as well go all the way.

I think I've seen this defense almost word for word before, but for Mineta from MHA lol

Thinking about the designs and uses of SMILEs has got me thinking about how much of an abject failure Caesar has been. He made a deadly gas that didn't kill people, he couldn't make people giants without side effects, his KX Launchers failed, and now these SMILEs, while they have their benefits, still make Vegapunk's "failed" artificial fruit look like a bonafide success. I would feel sorry for the guy but he deserves it.
-
The crab smile user makes you wonder why Kaido was so worried for not having more smilies. Maybe the fact that he's drunk all the time can explain it.:getlost:
-
It's all about image, that all animal pirate thing is probably something he's dreamed about for years. Still they are all just like any other random goons, at the moment it really doesn't seem like destroying the Smile production really did much of anything.
-
As long as he throws good punches everything is ok.
-
Imagining the "Beast Pirates sign-up application" process:
Recruiter - Do you have an animal fruit? If yes, it's an instant pass but, if not, do not worry: there's this nice alternative called SMILE that gives you sort-of-animal fruit:
Then proceeds to showcase some "successful" examples such as Crab SMILE user, Lion head-in-stomach SMILE user, Hippo SMILE user …
Applicant - That's ... great ...

Do you mean like how rayleigh removed seastone handcuffs or?
-
I wonder why beast pirates stopped searching for momonosuek and raizou. And have harder time finding them when they next to them isntead of searching otherr islands.
-
Do you mean like how rayleigh removed seastone handcuffs or?
My best guess is, that Camie didn't have any seastone handcuffs. Why would you use expensive seastone handcuffs on a being which is submerged completely underwater anyway? I guess those slavers just used seastone handcuffs on DF-user-slaves.
You also can't blow up seastone handcuffs. And the cuffs on EL looked different than the cuffs on SA (the latter had explosives, so…). -
I think the outrage over Sanji's perverted nature has gotten a little stale and forced, honestly.
Just like the gag itself.
At this point the character is just a weak, obnoxiously sleazy shadow of his former self. Toning it down while cranking the volume on some of more serious aspects of his personality would go a LONG way.
-
The "Sanji-the-perv"-joke really gets old, I know. But Oda kept piling up this gag further and further. And those 2 yrs in the Kamabaka KD haven't made it any better.
On the other Hand Oda does the same with Zoro's sense of direction. He just makes those jokes more and more ridiculous. In the thread Prior to this one [hide]the Spoiler thread[/hide] People discussed how weak some headliners are.
The intro-Panel for the scorpion-smile-user is a Symbol for that IMO.Queen's theme has to be "we got the funk" by George Clinton. Especially the Chorus. Just Change it to "Queeeen's got the funk! He's got the funk!"
