I dunno. It looks like it might be decent. But definitely too dark for a FF film.

Not a fan of how they're teenagers/almost teenagers.

Maybe its just cause I've read Ultimates, so I've been around the idea of them being "young" for a while, (contemporaries of Spiderman after all… and he's traditionally been younger) but them being a young group works fine. Keeps them from being established heroes with decades of experience.

Plus Johnny and Sue were always young... Reed was the old guy, and he felt it even more so due to his stuffy science mode.

And Doom… I've never been fond of him in the comics and he already was the bad guy in the other films.

No, a guy claiming to be Doom was in the other movies. He hasn't actually been in a movie yet. He's one of the greatest and most iconic marvel characters, (He and Magneto are pretty much THE two big bads) he deserves some justice.

Doom never did much for me, but then again that's what i thought about venom and the green goblin.

And spectacular sure proved me, oh so wrong, about the green goblin atleast. So here's hoping.

Venom has always sucked. He was cool for a few months when he was basically creepy evil spiderman, and after Peter had the black costume. All the powers amplified, stealthed from Spider sense, knew his secret identity, had an actual grudge with Peter rather than Spiderman.

But then he became popular and appeared in a million things and went to crap real fast. He worked fine once in a while. As on ongoing threat/own lead in a book? Not so much.

It's not going to get Avengers 1 numbers because there are too many movie people these days that are hating on the comic book genre right now and will give it rotten just for that. It's amazing how much this genre is getting ripped on and hated. Hollywood is such snobs.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of hate towards comic book movies, I don't get why but whatever. I don't care much for reviews, so it really doesn't matter haha.

What? This is just flat-out incorrect. Even just last year Days of Future Past, Winter Soldier, and Guardians were all very well received by critics. Outside of Man of Steel every superhero film since 2008 has been well received or better; yes, even The Incredible Hulk, which got a decent 67% on Rotten Tomatoes.

EDIT: Completely blanked on Amazing Spider-man 2 being received poorly, and I forgot the atrocious X-Men Origins film came out in 2009, but in both of those cases critical consensus and the fan consensus were pretty much identical.

yeaaaaah…I don't know how one can interpret an 80-ish% as a BAD thing on Rotten Tomatoes.

Marvel's two worst movies, Iron Man 2 and Thor 2, have scores of 73% and 66% respectively. Marvel's average score since the studio's conception has been a stellar 82%.

Other companies have been less oustanding. Over the same period of time, Warner Bros has a 57%, 20th Century Fox has earned a 71%, and Sony Pictures had a 63%. None of those are awful numbers.

The only three outright bad movies from these four during that time were Green Lantern, X-men Origins Wolverine, and Jonah Hex, which is best left forgotten. 5 movies total out of 22 scored less than 60%.

Columbia and Lionsgate also dip their fingers occasionally but I'm ignoring them because that's even more confusing.

I do think that superhero fatigue is a thing that affects some critics, especially given the saturation that we've seen. And it's only going to get worse in 2016, when every superhero movie ever is coming out. Despite all that, it seems like many critics either recognize comic books/superheroes as their own genre now or still think the movies are entertaining and well-made.

So I watched the midnight premiere of AoU. It was good and all… but I expected more, because Whedon kept saying this was the one where he could really delve into things. He does that more than with Avengers 1 for sure, but... it was still all very surface level. I also felt most of the best scenes were already in the trailers. I went with two friends, one was very impressed and the other one liked it but I had problems with the tonal clashes (dramatic scene, comedy scene, dramatic scene, etc.).

I hate comics Wanda, but she might've been the most entertaining character in the movie. Hawkeye was also very good. I was dissappointed Black Widow was mostly wasted on a romantic subplot after her amazing performance in Winter Soldier. Rhodey was fantasti in every one of his small appearances. DoFP Quicksilver >>>>>> AoU Quicksilver. The final scene in the movie got me hyped as fuck for Civil War.

Every? Wasn't it basically a jab in a musical number or a Jack Black joke or something? I suppose the Nightcrawler director expressed frustration with them when he didn't really need to, but I don't think he was totally off point. RDJ basically said the same thing before then and it wasn't given much grief.

On some points, I agree with you. The others I just don't have any comment on. Now let me make one thing clear: Had this been just some other movie that I went to see on a whim without any expectations ahead of time, chances are I would have absolutely ADORED it… but with all the hype surrounding it, I found myself feeling just a tiny bit underwhelmed. Just a little though. On the whole there was still plenty of fun to be had. Though yes. Quicksilver was definitely better in Days of Future Past.
Unrelated spoiler about what was a clear standout moment for me…

! Loved Vision's entrance though. The entire theater broke into laughter once he just casually picked up Thor's hammer… then they quieted down a bit... then they laughed some more. Actually Vision as a whole was pretty fantastic.

Disagree there. The QS in this was actually a character with a role to play in the story (not a great one) instead of just a device for one punchline as a fuck you to Marvel by Fox.

I thought this movie was fantastic. There were a few rushes and plot conveniences but overall it was a well told story with great character development for all the characters. Ultron was a fascinating antagonist, he's easily up there with Loki for me. Fucking loved this movie.

Really, it's a testament to Whedon's direction and Vision (hurr hurr) that he could take the fuck ton of plotlines he had to address and make not only a coherent but highly enjoyable movie. This is definitely one of my favorite Marvel films, definitely belongs in the upper tier at least.

Huh that's interesting, why is it that Japan has their release date all the way in July? (Whereas Korea is releasing the movie tomorrow). Do they normally dub these these films when releasing it in theaters?

Yeah, seems like traveling out will be the most likely scenario. Probably end up driving to the nearest stations to travel to Osaka or Kyoto for DB and Avengers then.

But no, despite a few hiccups here and there causing me to feel that the movie couldn't quite reach the same highs as the first Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy, I still left the theater really glad that I'd seen the movie.

…That said, I feel like I should have watched it in 2D. I dunno if it's the 3D-conversion being poorly done (or did they finally start to actually film these in 3D?), the projectors being meh or just my eyesight having somehow gotten dramatically worse since the last time I saw a 3D-movie in theaters (note: in the past 4 months), but I found some of the action-scenes a bit hard to follow... If I go to see the movie again (which chances are, I probably will) I'll probably go for the 2D-version instead. I didn't feel like the 3D really added much anyway. I really only went for that in the first place because when I pre-ordered my tickets, only 3D-screenings were available. Plus I wanted to see it on the largest possible screen, and naturally the 2D-screenings (which did pop up a few days later) were in smaller halls.

Saw the movie yesterday and made an entire movie summary for those interested :)

! Movie starts with the Avengers attacking Baron Struckers base. They succeed in capturing Strucker and retrieving Loki's scepter.
They also encounter the twins, but they escape.
! Stark discovers thet Loki's scepter has something inside it, a stone with an AI far superior to Jarvis.
Stark and Banner start to work on it.
! The Avengers have a party to celebrate they defeated Strucker.
At the end of the party Ultron has activated himself, 'kills' Jarvis and reveals himself to the Avengers.
The Avengers fight him off.
! Ultron finds the twins and together they go after Claw to get some vibranium.
The Avengers discover this plan and go after Claw aswel.
! They meet up and a fight starts. Wanda screws with the mind of Black Window, Captain America, Thor and Hulk.
Stark needs to stop the Hulk from destroying the city. He summons his Hulkbuster armor and an awesome fight begins.
After a bit of fighting the Hulk regaines his mind and Stark knocks him out.
! The Avengers then go to a safe house recommended by Hawkeye. It's actually Hawkeye's place and his wife and kids live there.
Nick Fury also shows up and talks to Stark. Thor goes of for some soul searching and get's a vision about the infinity stones.
! Meanwhile Ultron is trying to create a new android body that he wants to put his own mind in.
Wanda at this point reads Ultrons mind and sees he wants to destroy the planet.
Ultron start to tranfer his mind into the android body, but is stopped by Wanda.
Then the Avengers show up (without Thor).
! After some fighting Stark retrieves the android body. Now he wants to put Jarvis (who wasn't completely dead) into the android body.
Captain America doesn't agree and a fight between them starts. During the fight Thor shows up and activates the android with a thunder shock.
! The android with Jarvis's mind comes alive and he calles himself Vision. Thor tells the other that the stone in Loki's scepter that is now on Vision's head is an infinity stone (the mind stone).
He wanted to have it on their side that's why he activated the android. The Vision acts friendly and is able to lif Thor's hammer.
! Now the final battle starts.
Ultron is using some tech to lift an entire city into the sky, with the Avengers on it. He plans to smash it back into the Earth like an meteor.
The twins help the Avengers fight against Ultron, but Quicksilver dies while saving Hawkeye.
At the end all of Ultrons bodies are destroyed and because Vision blocked Ultron from escaping Ultron is defeated.
Then Thor smashes the entire flying city into peaches.
! After the fight the Hulk leaves on his own without anyone knowing where he went. Thor goes back to Asgard. Hawkeye goes back to his wife.
And Stark tells Captain America he is going on a break aswell. The last scene is that of the new group of Avengers.
Captain America, Black Widow, Vision, Scarlet Witch, War Machine and Falcon.
! The mid-credit scene is Thanos picking up the infinity gauntlet and saying he will do this himself.

No, you're right. The action scenes at the start were hard to follow. Couldn't tell if it was the movie or the 3D making it hard to see properly because of how dark the glasses were. Had no choice but to watch it in 3D though because that was the only thing available. It did improve I feel as the film went on or maybe I just got used to it.

UGH! I just wanted to scream out loud during every scene between them. The start was sweet and all but COME ON WHYYY.
On that note: Was it rly necessary that Banner had to fall Face first into her boobs?

! Quicksilver. His german Voice was just meh, dunno about the original, but I personally liked X-Men Movie Quicksilver more, so I wasn't really sad when he was killed off. DoFP at least had him smirking around instead of always looking grumpy and even saying his jokes in the most grumpy voice possible. Also he just didn't look good.
! Maximoff twins hating on Stark but they never actually have a talk with him. But hey, let's just change sides and work with the, from their perspective, big bad wolf without ever clearing the air.
! All in all there wasn't enough interaction I think. Like real interactions in the team. And them just.. don't know.. being more than just Avengers. I missed that in the first movie but here it was really lacking.
And yeah, they tried to be funny in uncalled situations.
! Jarvis being killed in the first 10mins. And Iron Man without him therefore :( That really made me sad.
! The lack of Gwyneth Paltrow and Nathalie Portman.
! No funeral for Quicksilver.
! I honestly think there was too much screentime for Hawkeye and not enough for the other team members. Shoot me. I know most of the others have their own movies where they can shine but in an Avengers Movie I want them all to shine and be their best and coolest and especially not Widow being degraded to some love interest and Shield-deliverer.

! Guess what. I liked it. The movie was definitely not without its flaws but it was consistently entertaining. Checked the time exactly nonce and I watched the movie twice today.
! Flaws:
! Natasha and Bruce was a little out of nowhere. I don't think that they needed more scenes to flesh it out because they already had a lot. Maybe I'm just not a fan of the pairing. But it would have been nice to have Banner articulate what attracts him to Widow. Besides boobs. Yeah, that gag was meh.
! Random vision water for Thor to bathe in. I'm not sure why Selvig even had to come. I guess he located it? And I think he had some sort of box…
! Vision and the mention of the Infinty Stones both clashed with the setting of this movie for me. I mean, I know we had aliens in the first one and obviously the Stones need to actually be discussed sooner rather than later but...it was just weird. I liked Paul Bettany a lot though so Vision won me over.

! Ultron. He was really fun when he was petulant and childish.
Vision and Mjölnir. Based on the trailer scene people were speculating that Cap would end up lifting it at some point but this was a much better payoff. A shortcut for everybody to just go along with Vision. Great writing.
The fact that things were happening in countries that weren't the US.

You saw the movie twice in a day? Wow, I haven't done that since I was, like, 8. And for a movie I had on VHS, I don't think I'd ever actually pay to go to a movie-theater to see the same movie twice in one day, no matter how awesome it was. To me, just going to see the same movie in theaters twice period is pretty significant. (Funfact: I saw The Avengers three times. The last was mostly just because my sister was going to see it and I had nothing else to do that day though.)

So I just noticed that the critical reception of Age of Ultron in Norway seems to have been somewhat lukewarm. I mean, fans love it but the reviews seem to be more split on it. So out of curiousity I went and checked how it compared to other Marvel-movies…

Thor: The Dark World has a higher average score from movie-reviewers than Age of Ultron in Norway. Did we even watch the same movie? I mean I may be in the "First Avengers was better"-camp, but Age of Ultron was still far superior to either of Thor's outings… and actually, probably every single movie in Phase 1 except The Avengers itself.

Maybe someday people will move away from caring about these arbitrary numbers.
Maybe someday it'll click with everyone how weird it is that we try to quantify two very subjective things like enjoyment and quality into cold hard logical numbers.
Maybe then we stop wondering why nothing in the world of scoring will ever make sense when you apply math to it.
The average is not the average when in fact everyone's rating was operating on a different and personal numerical value system while doing the rating.
Discrepancies like above are bound to happen. (Also even if it were somehow logical the sample size of thor is 4 times bigger than that of the avengers 2 which has to be considered in a comparison)

And don't ask me why almost everyone uses the decimal system to express their personal rating, it makes no sense beyond this weird assumption "oh everyone knows these numbers so it'll make total sense when I use them, they'll totally understand" well that doesn't seem to be case when I look at the rage outcry over these numbers on various stuff.

Though its villain was lackluster, its Asgardian side cast mostly underdeveloped and its comic relief occasionally grating, I'd still rank Thor 2 above its predecessor. Mostly because more stuff actually happened, and went balls out with the fantastical elements. Going back to Thor 1 at this point in the MCU, its not that it doesn't have a small-scale charm, but it also feels kinda…cheap.

Also Thor 2 has my vote. Way more ambitious and entertaining than the first one.
