I can't even properly rank the laughs from this arc. People are forced to laugh, it's messed up.
Finally watched OP laughs on Crunchyroll and I think Moria's crew might slightly beat Doffy's crew for best laughs for villains.

Really interested to see if Law does get away with the Poneglyph info, because that would mean Blackbeard would have to resort to going to Wano soon.
Can we get an official Egghead thread? Although it looks like the new arc won't be entirely focused on Egghead...
@electricmastro I just thought that maybe Blackbeard would just get the poneglyph copy from Zou and then go to Wano for the other one, but I then I remembered Pluton is in Wano... If Blackbeard goes to Wano, it should be for that! He will have to encounter Caribou first...

I get the feeling Oda got fed up saving non-main island scenes for in between arcs and is showing Blackbeard confronting Law now even though they’re not at Egghead. lol

Yeah, regardless if Law gets away with the poneglyph info or not, there’s also the matter if Blackbeard is interested enough to go to Wano for Pluton, in addition to Kaido and Big Mom’s fruits.

Maybe. Or we are in the final saga and Oda wants to end the story soon, so he can no longer confine an arc to a single setting.

Yeah, One Piece might end by July 2025 after all, so maybe we could see Wano again before 2022 ends for all we know. lol
@electricmastro I don't think so. The earliest I can see One Piece ending is in July of 2027! For the 30th anniversary.

Ah, but Oda mentioned the idea of 3 years in a July 2022 interview, and this is endgame, so how can one not think this? lol

Because so far he has failed to be right every single time when he gave an estimate about the series ending. Or to put it differently, he has flawless track record of being wrong in his estimates. With that in mind the question should rather be how can anyone still take them seriously?
Also shouldn't this thread be unstickied?
@electricmastro Because ending it on the 30th anniversary (if possible) would be too good to pass up from a marketing perspective. It's just two more years from the "goal" of ending it in 2025.
Oda is a hack for not naming the legend that is the CP0 guy that interrupted Luffy vs Kaido.
Secondly, I liked looking at Luffy stretch different parts of Kaido as Nika Man.
Starting to realize just how many seeds Oda was planting to be revisited for later:
-Kaido getting less than a chapter for his backstory even though Doflamingo got multiple chapter devoted to his
-Zoro not visiting Ryuma's grave even though he said he would
-Momo wanting to surpass Oden
-Sanji's transformation into a Germa cyborg from his switched eyebrows
-Kiku not being shown mourning over her brother Izou dying even though them reuniting after years was a big deal
-Big Mom's status and if any of her children like Katakuri will try to avenge her
-Oden's will to prepare Wano for Joy Boy's return
-Carrot being nominated to be Zou ruler even though she never talked about getting such a position
Sure Oda was mainly focusing on Momo as Wano is pretty much his arc, and has planted seeds before, but this might be the most polarizing seed planting he has ever ended an arc on.
What an optimistic guy you are
It really feels good how the toxicity during Wano has been drastically reduced for now. Egghead is restful. Not that it is perfect (Ohara books LOL, Saul), but less of a mess than the country of the cringe Samurai.
You know with this Official Wano Thread I've wondered why there's not an Official Egghead Thread yet? It's a terrible short arc yes, but it has already enough going on for discussion going on that span the entire arc rather than being chapter specific.

What aspects do you think are terrible if I might ask? The Ohara books being ignored for instance deeply insulted my intelligence, I almost refuse to believe Oda had planned it that way back then.
I wouldn't call it terrible, but it feels uneventful outside of VP being the worst. His character is so odd and entertaining. He's carrying the arc.

You might ask but I don't feel like talking about it. If you check the last batch of chapters discussions you'll notice that I stayed out almost completely. I just feel a bit fatigued at being pissed off at something new every week that I just don't want to waste my energy on those things. Especially if it would lead to discussions where I would have to focus on these things more.
Don't get me wrong, I usually like having a constructive discussion with different takes. But at this point the entire situation of being disappointed with the series is what I just don't want to focus my time on too much. So I hope you don't mind if I don't really provide an explenation to your question.

I think it didn't help that Oda had to push things aside to give spotlight to Momo, as Wano, at least Act 3, is pretty much Momo's arc. I don't think he's a particularly interesting character to be around, but I'm happy for him in rising up to be the shogun he wants to be.
I figure that any time Oda wants to return there would feel more welcome as we could take the time to focus on lore more like Joy Boy's return, instead of having to shift to 50+ viewpoints while fighting against a bully like Kaido. Oda could expand more on any heritage Zoro has from there for example.
@electricmastro
Oda didn't have to give Momo a spotlight, he chose to. And it would not be a problema if he had managed to make Momo an interesting character. We were all excited to see his growth and development, we just didn't like the way it happened.
(One exception for me: I think I might be the only person who liked the scene in which Momo bites Kaidou, both in dragon form. Luffy saying "After this, is there anything in this world you are afraid of?" was so awesome! And it was so weird that after that everyone was waiting for Momo to finally attack Kaidou or give him the final blow, as if that had not just happened??)

Seeing as how Momo becoming the shogun is the direct aftermath of Kaido getting his ass kicked and even had Luffy’s presumed 10th person stay for a time due to his failure with the Admiral, it can be easy to see why Oda treated it as big of a deal as it was. I agree he’s not a particularly exciting or interesting individual to be around, and that his relationship with Luffy mostly amounted to being yelled at and coached, but clearly Oda isn’t done with him yet even after all these years. For now, we’ll have to see how fast he learns his stuff after in wanting to surpass Oden.
I posted this in the latest chapter thread and people seemed to get a kick out of it. Wano is over, but I hope this video might leave a smile on some faces when thinking back on it:

It feels like more of a pause right now, because of Pluton and Tama’s discrimination of course, but that’s funny too. lol

Donald's opinion on Wano is pretty solid, ngl.
Another video has released and it's Sanji vs Zoro. Also pretty funny.
My 2 biggest gripes with Wano were the handling of Momo and the inclusion of the Supernova vs "old guard" narrative.
I compare Momo/Kinemon to Jinbe/Shirahoshi at times. They shared the arc as the connection to the crew that supersede a Tama. They are the point of interest and push the other support or trigger flashbacks that are the main subjects. Kinemon just stands out as someone that was powerless and really wanted to do best for Oden/Wano, while Momo had things handed to him. A DF, general/teacher in Kaido's son, SH alliance, age up, time travel to avoid living under Orochi's rule, etc.
I can keep going, but it was horrible with how many things felt unearned with Momo. It's the amount in totality and not each individual tool on its own. My favorite moment with him is saying his name in the face of all those enemies and not seeing an ally, but for every moment like that, he has 2 unearned blessings from the writer.
I felt a balance with Jinbe and Shirahoshi. With Kinemon, he is just written way better than Momo.
The Supernova narrative just overcrowded things more than they needed too. I like this arc at its core. An intimate story about oppression, changing of ways, carrying wills, stoicism, understanding. It just becomes too crowded when Kid and Killer subplots have to be squeezed in.
I understood a floodgate of enemies would be opened to invade Wano now that Kaido is gone. But if that’s true, where are the enemies in Chapter 1089’s Wano panel? Why is Momo not attacking anyone? Why is he just standing around? Why is he not bruised?
@electricmastro Having the nation in a vulnerable state does not equal having to deal with enemies 24/7.
@Deicide said in Official Wano Thread:

Well that’s what it sounded like Yamato was saying given her abrupt decision and Ryokugyu’s intrusion.
I wouldn’t even be bringing this up if Oda hadn’t of mentioned it, but he took the time to show Wano in 1089, so I’ll take the opportunity to likewise analyze it.
And so if Wano isn’t being invaded by enemies more, then what can really be said of Yamato’s claim of “a floodgate of enemies coming”?
@electricmastro Simple. It hasn't happened yet. It will soon.
Yamato is currently fighting the enemies at the shore, there you go
@Chams-0 said in Official Wano Thread:

That would be at odds with what Momo said about him wanting to be Wano defender instead of her then.
If that much can be gotten from one panel, then I guess it's true when they say a picture is worth 1,000 words.
One of the big things that bugged me in wano arc is that Jinbei and Kawamatsu didn’t have a moment. It didn’t cost Oda anything to give them a moment. When jinbei was alone sitting at the dinner table while the others were parting, that would have been a great opportunity for jinbei and Kawamatsu to have a talk.
What does Kawamatsu know about the Fishmen and the world outside?. Does Kawamatsu know how to talk to some fish like jinbei does?. Can he handle water like jinbei?.
These things are not trivial, they enrich the story.

Well, i reckon the Blackbeard Pirates on Egghead will get ahold of Caribou somehow. He will let them know about Pluton and... Probably bad news for Wano.

I had that idea too, but it really seems up to how interested Blackbeard is in Pluton, which is a maybe at best at this point.
Crocodile has been shown to have interest in Pluton though, so this in conjunction with Buggy having had connections with Oden in the past may result in Cross Guild manipulating Zou and Wano into gaining their trust for special favors, including from Momo and his friends.

Like many things, it wasn't relevant enough to show if they did talk.
I noticed something while flipping through my physical copy of volume 103 that came in the mail today, and it's that there are basically no firearms in the Onigashima raid. Aside from Izo, the armoured squad accompanying Sasaki, and Queen, I don't think I've spotted a single fodder character in the crowd scenes with a pistol, rifle or bazooka.
Now, for the samurai, I get it. It was a whole plot thing that weapons on Wano are tightly controlled, and it took an entire side mission just to get them equipped with swords. But the Beasts Pirates should be packing. Their mooks and Orochi's enforcers use guns at several points in the first two acts, and Kaido himself finished off Oden with a gunshot. So where did all those weapons go for the final battle? Is it Onigashima policy to check them at the door, or did Oda just write them off to keep things feeling like a traditional, close quarters samurai battle?
(and this is purely an Onigashima issue too, I skimmed over bits of Marineford, Dressrosa and Whole Cake's big, crowded battle scenes and while swords are the go-to weapon, I still spotted a reasonable amount of nameless fodder characters with guns)
@Captain-M I'd handwave it as the result of the Beast Pirates not being prepared for the raid and the samurai infiltrating them before they reveal themselves. When the enemy is everywhere (no battle lines) and suddenly rises up amongst you, you default to melee. Also, firing guns at a melee when you are outnumbering the enemy has a very high risk of friendly fire.
Of course, some firearms should have been used here and there, but let's just chalk it to "we just didn't see it".
@Deicide Yeah, it's not too hard to handwave away, but once I started noticing it I couldn't unnotice it.
When did Onigashima start sinking towards Ancient Wano?
Did Momo and Yamato just yeet it down there? XD
Looks like Wano is fully coming back into the story after an 18 month break.
Question about Kaido’s motives! So do we know why he wanted to die so much and was waiting around for Joy Boy?
I have this idea in my head that Oda deliberately showed us 2 Zoan awakenings with the clouds but nothing of the sort with Kaido because he wasn’t awakened.
Am I reading too much into it that Kaidou wanted one of those near death(or actual death) battles to awaken his fruit? I haven’t reread Wano yet and it just dawned on me I still don’t know exactly why he was so interested in Joy Boy or dying.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I’m predicting that Yamato will stumble across Kaidou on her journey. He’d be broken and still recovering but awakened. Luffy helped him accomplish his dream of “dying”.
@RomanceDawn
I’d say Kaido didn’t show his awakening cause what’s left for Momo to do once the last battle comes?
The same awakening as Kaido would be boring, so that’s probably why he didn’t show it with Kaido.
His death wish was likely inspired by Oden and Whitebeard epic death where they inspired legends, we know this about Oden and Whitebeard confirmed that the One Piece exists.
So IMO Kaido wanted a legend of his own.
As far as I remember he wasn’t interested in Joyboy, I think the first person who told him about Joyboy was King, who thought that Kaido was Joyboy and would bring the change, but Kaido kinda disagreed with that and said Joyboy would be the one who defeats him.
This should be part of Kaidos brief flashback or part of Kings when he goes down.

As I recall, we don’t know. We don’t even know when he first found out about Joy Boy. My suspicion is that he might have found it out from either Rocks or King.
Not sure how Yamato would stumble across Kaido after Kaido got fisted into fish volcano soup though. Unless there would be more elaboration on their family history and dynamic, I imagine Oda would rather focus on Yamato dealing with the racism of being Kaido’s child.
@RomanceDawn said in Official Wano Thread:

I like this idea, never thought of that. But as far as I remember, Oda never really went back to Kaido's suicidal tendencies after his introductory chapter back in Dressrosa. I don't think it was ever even acknowledged after that, so maybe it's am aspect of the character that was dropped by the time he was fully presented in Wano.
My headcanon is that Kaido and Linlin had Awakening and never used it for different reasons: Linlin out of hubris, because she never conceived two upstart rookies would force her to go that far (and when she realized the mistake, it was too late); Kaido because he saw it as overkill and would just ruin the fight to use it too early (and by the time he realized he would needed it, it was too late for him as well).
We know from Lucci that even after Awakening a Zoan used can still access their regular transformation, so Kaido never using an Awakened form doesn't necessarily means he didn't had it.
