The Strawhat that Luffy has is the one ot the former pirate king passed down to Shanks and to Luffy.
I don't think we ever saw Roger giving his strawhat to Shanks. We just assumed it. Shanks could also made his own in respect to his former captain.

because Shirahoshi and most of all Rebecca are such super flat characters.
Are you making fun of their bust sizes?!

You dont have to see it.. Oda showing that Roger was the owner of the Strawhat without a doubt shows that the Apprentice on his ship got it from him.

Well, yes. But after this it's hard to believe something else.
Excuse me if am not in the mood to see awful characters of previous arc have their AA meeting reunion.

Close enough. It was a very pleasant chapter, but there wasn't really much for me to discuss (I wonder why Carue was looking so intently at Leo, though).
EDIT: Oh, right. I forgot something: wtf is with all those royal families trying to marry Shirahoshi with one of their sons? I can pass the citizens being excited with the prospect of meeting this beauty, but trying to marry her into your royal family goes completely against all the prejudice we were led to believe the merfolk suffer.
When the kings themselves want their royal blood mixed with merfolk, there is absolutely no way to believe in that narrative. I call a big incoherence here.
The term āCaucasianā comes from white slavery, and eventually became synonymous with what is now known as white people. Circassian slaves in particular were renowned for their beauty after the Russian genocidal conquest of their homeland. So gendered racism leading to fetishazation of āexoticā women is an old one. The men are feared, the women renowned for their beauty. Itās racism intertwined with the male gaze.
Sex with giant mermaids must be a lot more desirable (and imaginable) than I thought :ninja:
There are people on this forum who've been around for a decade or so, which means that they're at the very least in their mid-20's. But they're still getting mad at whoever didn't like something in this manga
@Gecko:

I know, I avoided using fetishism in my post because people use to be overly sensitive when you start sounding like what they call SJW. But the thing is while I can understand fetishization explaining the public in general being in love with this exotic mermaid princess beauty while seeing the merfolk as sub-humans, the kings wanting her to marry with one of their sons seems to fall completely out of that category. Sai is there as Kano's king scort. But I really hope she somehow manages to get there, I need her there when the Shichibukai are disbanded so Amazon Lily can join in my dream scene of the kingdoms announcing themselves as Luffy's territory by the end of the meeting.
Also, Hancock is always a delight when she is not around Luffy and is 100% the meanest person alive. She may storm there because she got word that the Shichibukai were going to be disbanded or because people were saying Shirahoshi is more beautiful than her.
She should be able to get there without any problem even being a pirate becauseā¦ SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!

Amazon Lily isn't part of the World Government. She became a Warlord to strike a deal with the WG to keep her island safe from Marines.
 wish jaminis pages would load I ended up missing a few pages because they refused to load regardless of browser
Please don't make One Piece like Naruto pre destined crap!
Naruto was not that much more predestined than Luffy. It was a prophecy that someone with the power to 'play' with nine bijus would appear someday and separately Jiraiya would mentor a person who will bring change in the ninja world.
For Luffy too there is a 'prophecy' type expectation that someone to bear the the weight the long lost history would appear someday and turn the world in new direction( the moment he entered Grand Line). He too has already a illustrious bloodline of Dragon and Garp and mentored by Reileigh and Shank. So he is a destiny's child.
But Naruto's power level went off the chart randomly, while Oda kept Luffy's growth fairly balanced.
Posting this here incae anyone else has any issues with jaminis or smth-

Sai being there brings an interesting point, though.
Before, with Vivi, it was made very clear a royal family having connection with pirates was not allowed, and this chapter itself abundantly reaffirmed it with the princesses and Dalton having to pretend they are not friends of Luffy and even Leo saying the Tonta Corps. will have to sever their ties with Dressrosa after the Reverie (presumably because they will officially start as official pirates then). So how come Kano is allowed to have a pirate crew, and a huge as hell one, so close it is pretty much their national guard? Was it explained already and I forgot?

They aren't pirates they are the Happo Navy.
I for some reason expect the reveal that Dragon is a noble in his mothers side.
Slummed down with Garp's gutter genes.
With mama being all sad and weepy there in mary jane town.

It'd be weird for her to come to the place of her childhood trauma, where she was kept as slave for celestial dragons. I mean why would she be forced to go there? Because she wouldn't go there on her free will.
They aren't pirates they are the Happo Navy.
And the Happo Navy is a pirate crew. Why do you think Chinjao has a bounty on his head?
I mean, their status as a pirate crew is literally stated in this very chapter by Leo (Sai didn't became a pirate after Dressrosa like Leo, Ideo and Orlumbus)

Chinjao was a pirate chasing treasure, Sai was navy serving his country. The leader decide what the navy does. Chinjao chose treasures, Sai chose his country. They just now decided to become pirates and that's not public record.

I always assumed that Chinjao was classified a pirate mostly because every ship not sailing from a WG nation with the WG's permission seems to get branded as such, and he just rolled with it for a while. Eventually Kano joined the WG and presumably part of whatever deal they cut in joining involved bounties being dropped and crimes forgiven, but the reputation lingered. I could be wrong, but I don't recall Chinjao ever being specifically described as an active pirate. The wiki doesn't cite a chapter, but it does call him a former pirate in his bio.
Hence Sai this week saying he needs to cut ties with the country if he's going to become a pirate. They may have had pirates in the past, whose legacies linger on, but they don't and aren't allowed to now.

I suppose it could be that. They used to be a pirate crew back when Chinjao was its leader, but reformed when Sai took over.
I was under the impression it was Leo saying that about cutting ties after the Reverie, but looking at it again it could be Sai.
My theory is that the strawhats are woven in a way to store the wearers haki as it progresses over time and is passed on from person to person provided they share the same will. The new one that's just been introduced could be imbued with the intention of the world government's founders, whose descendants are now realizing from Luffy's massive bounty raise that Roger had the same idea though a different cause. Perhaps it's being kept in a cold place to keep the haki locked in for the next person worthy of wearing it

I was so quick to think it was Sai I didn't even consider the possibility of Leoā¦ It could really go either way, huh? I guess we'll know for sure on Tuesday - the inflection Stephen puts on all the Tontatta dialogue will give it away once and for all.
For Leo, it depends on if Greenbit is formally considered a state of Dressrosa or not. If it's a separate country/kingdom it's obviously not WG aligned, even if it is allied to Dressrosa, so they shouldn't have too much trouble explaining away so many of their forces joining Luffy. Easier for them than someone of Sai's status in a WG country anyway. Weren't the Tontatta kind of a secret until fairly recently as well? But if they are part and representative of Dressrosa, yeah it makes sense for Leo to be cutting ties.
Loved the chapter overall but man these black silhouettes are getting old. They really seem unnecessary at this point.

But that implies that Kureha, Wapol, Vivi and Sai are awful.

Is it confirmed that Amazon Lily is part of the WG?
I could do without the trivia panels. New readers are completely capable of understanding the context of the scene without an entire page of text explaining what happened.
My favorite part of the chapter is actually the reveal that the moving road is being run by slaves longing for death. The nobles are so fucking despicable. I do wonder how the world will look once One Piece is found and Mary Geoise falls - there seem to be nobles here that aren't wholly corrupt and many that are personal friends of Luffy. I loved Sai's presence at this thing. He's the guy at the party who really breaks the ice.
Uh the hat thingā¦ I'm as worried as everyone else I think. The theory I'm most comfortable with from the spoiler thread is that Joyboy had a Straw Hat of their own that Roger wore to honor them. I had always presumed that the destruction of the red line and Mary Geoise would lead to the destruction of Fishmen Isle (the people being lead to the surface by Noah's ark) and thus the world is united as "one piece". Although now that there's a new Straw Hat at Mary Geoise, it kinda feels like something else could happen
or maybe she is just really good at what she trained to do?
kyros taught her how to dodge, it doesn't mean it s haki.. hell we have no sign that kyros knows haki himself, let alone him being able to teach it to her.
not in any translation i read
In the official volume it's startedā¦. multiple times i believe. I will check when i get home and post the panels
Is it confirmed that Amazon Lily is part of the WG?
No. They have a treaty with the World Government which remains in effect so long as she is a Shichbukai, their sovereignty is not infringed upon and they're left aloneā¦.
Hmmm didn't really like the chapter I'm sure I am alone in that sentiment. So much stuff seems like overkill or perhaps me nitpicking. Why make the bubbles or gandolera's drop the visitors so far away and then make them walk a mile of stairs? Once they get to the top then that have another mile to walk to get to the castle? If Shirahous could possibly say something to offend the other individuals why bring her or not give her a heads up. What is the purpose of the slaves moving the ground, you mean in such a technological time frame nobody invented an electronic device to do that. Obviously, it was only to highlight how cruel the conditions are but I feel it could of been done another way. If the Celestial Dragons are on the premises why have mer-people come to Mary Geoise, to easy to get kidnapped. Also the last page was disappointing in my eyes, why is the person looking at the large hat, obviously nobody is under it unless we have an AntMan situation here. I get it was a cliffhanger but it doesn't make sense, it's like someone walking into my house and staring at my empty shoes as if I am going to appear inside them. I really enjoyed last weeks chapter but this one just seems like checking a box more in my eyes.
Can we discuss the freaking giant strawhat covered in dust that was presumably hold captive in Mariejoie since the void century and is referred to as the national treasure by Doffy ?!
Or maybe we can speculate about how Sabo will save all the slaves and become a modern Fisher Tiger ?
Hell I'd even welcome a yaoi ship between Dalton and Luffy.
Why does the main discussion have to be about Rebecca's haki ?
Why would Hancock be here anyway. So was a slave at Marijois till she was practually a young adult. She'd likely burn the place down if she could. Would be a nice twist though.
But fun chapter, both horrifying (seeing slaves practically have to move a sidewalk, the return of -ugh- Charloss), funny (all the intereaction with the princesses along and past characters. But Dalton pretty much ignoring Wapol who goes on a rant how a "true king" much act) and intriguing (Doflamingo's fate, the Straw Hat in the vault). That said this was mostly just exposition chapter on who's who again and basically everyone fanboy-ing about Luffy, thought at least it's cute.
Spectulation: Mmm I kinda again with the Joyboy theory. Really doubt Luffy is related to royalty. Even if he was, it would probably be as distant ancestor. Not all the D's are related after all and I doubt Luffy would care about his lineage, heck he didn't even know he had a father so what would he care about what happened in the past. It'll be his adversaries who suffer for trying to bring up old crap.
As for what happens next, meeting, World Nobles pulls some bullcrap, confrontation, good characters are in trouble and the revolutionaries come to save the day. OR one of the Luffy friends stumble upon Sabo, reveal they're a friend of Luffy and things just get crazy from there.
Either way, loving how this is coming along.
@Bond:
I don't think the issue is with the head tilt. Looking closely at Rebecca's eyes, her right iris is slightly higher than her left iris (look at the whites between the iris and the upper and lower eyelids).
It's a very subtle difference, and I wouldn't fault Oda for something so minor, but it does create a rather noticeable derpface effect.
Of course its higher! Her head is tilted, which caused it. I don't mean her head is tilted to front or back but to the side.
Go to a mirror. Tilt your head to the right, your right eye will be lower then your left eye. The left corner of your mouth will be higher than the right. Just like Rebecca's mouth is!
Amazon Lily isn't part of the World Government. She became a Warlord to strike a deal with the WG to keep her island safe from Marines.
I forgot that Amazon Lily wasn't part of the WG, thanks for the reminder.

They aren't pirates they are the Happo Navy.
Sai was never a pirate. It was Chinjao who was.
It was stated that he retired as a pirate after Garp bent his drill-shaped head. This was long before the birth of his grandsons. As for the Happo Navy, its been around for a long time and likely wasn't a pirate force at some time before Chinjao. Chinjao has 12 tattooed on him, while Sai has 13, its been suggested that each leader and their heirs of the Happo Navy gets such a tattoo. By this time the Happo Navy was connected to the kingdom's defence. Therefore the Marines wouldn't automatically think Sai is a pirate but think he's simply a new leader of a kingdom's navy.

Those slaves's reaction when Morley happens to tunnel himself in front of them would be pricelessā¦ better be Okama recruits than being a travelator-puller slave til death. Haha.
Excuse me who tf care?
just ignore him, this want a charter with 15/17 pages being intense fighting. Of course he doesnt enjoy it.
Amazon Lily is not a part of the WG. And Luffy did said that Rebecca has haki, and it makes sense if you think of her dodging Hakuba or being an undefeated gladiator. I really liked the interactions between the nobles that know and love Luffy. It was one of the hypes of the whole series to see nobles from the cities Luffy saved in a hostile environment like Mariejoa (didn't like the new name :( ).
No attention to the Revos in this chapter, I wonder what's their plan. Sabo could've sneaked onto the princesses "hey, that's my little brother you talking about".
And that hat. I definitely thought I was seeing things, for years I've wondered what could be this famous national treasure, and it's a big straw hat? I don't know what to think about it. It has a DF power? Is it something the hat is hiding? There are more chambers like that in Mariejoa? And the crowned figure, woman or man? Noble, Tenryuubito or Gorousei?

Power trumps prejudice. Marrying the most beautiful woman in the world is a huge status boost for any country, unless youāre Sterry-level racist. & since Hancock most likely wonāt show up to Reverie (unless Amazon Lily joined during the timeskip, Shirahoshi dominates the sausage fest that is a bunch of kings.
Will Iceburg show up to Reverie? Heās important but I guess mayors need not apply.
For sure Sterry will become CD. Either he does something now like help reveal the revolutionaries and capture them and in exchange he gets named CD, amybe even in the place of charlos.
SQUEEEEEE after reading this manga for so long and it feels like we're getting closer and closer near the end. This is exciting.
Two wanted posters hmmm who's the other person I wonder.
Probably Shanks (former owner of the hat and also a D. [my theory :P] ).
Could also be Dragon since we may see him this arc. Could be Teach as well.

When the prejudice against the Fishmen is explained by Robin in chapter 500 she says that this was abolished in most of the world since the World Government made an agreement with them remaining only in islands more "backward" like Sabaody.
I still think the treasure Doffy was talking about and that Strawhat(which i guess a important treasure too) are two different things. It's simply red herring by Oda by switching the panels to Mary Joeis.
