Imagine going back in time to the Sabaody era and showing this cover to a reader from that time, I'm sure it would be a great shock to see the three Straw Hats' terrors: Sentomaru, Kizaru and Kuma dancing happily on a cute volume cover. LOL

RE: Chapter 1066: The Will of Ohara
That also rubbed me the wrong way. Like before that Ohara as land of knowledge had more mystisism to it as it seemed like something that existed for a long time. But nope, Clover seems to have created that entire place within a few decades only by just making him flock other people with the same idiology fly to him like moths attracted by a fly. How could this country ever get such a high standing within the WG if Clover was known to be a rowdy looking into problematic things? That just didn't sit well with me.
The tree of knowledge has been around for 5000 years so obviously the concept of "land of knowledge" has been around for a long time. Vegapunk was just talking about Clover's generation.
I felt the same. It's like they are listening to everything that's going on and then while witnessing the things Vegapunk reveals and Robin clearly crying out of joy, the Strawhat's are not only incapable human speech but also are so emotionally detatched that they can't even tell Robin is sharing tears of sheer happiness? Get out!
The tears of joy were the second cry when he found out that Saul was alive, the first one (the one where the Straw Hats got angry) was tears of sadness to be remembering the tragedy of Ohara.

I'm sticking with Zoro moving to Vice Captain (more than likely not his choice) and freeing up the combatant spot. Not the most exciting but we are heading towards the end, I don't see Oda introducing any new roles. He has already blended roles together for certain crew members and the rest is shared amongst the crew to avoid constantly separating characters from the group.
Combatant is kind of vague so that doesn't really narrow the field too much. If Devon is confirmed to be a combatant, then it narrows the field considerably.
If Oda hasn't made Zoro Vice Captain so far, it's not in the final stretch that he's going to change that.
Seriously how would that be? Luffy would suddenly arrive and say "So now that we are a Yonko crew we need to have a more defined hierarchy so Zoro is now officially the Vice Captain and our new member is the combatant after all we all know there can only be one." I can't think of a scenario where this would make sense since Luffy never cared about these hierarchies.
The reason the crew never had a Vice Captain is that it doesn't make sense to hierarchize them like that. Having someone in the pack be "most important" after Luffy doesn't seem right with their dynamic.
And after Oda made Helmsman a "very important" role even though they never needed it until then I found it a waste of time guessing what roles new Nakamas will have LOL -

RE: The evolving grand plot theory
@Nidhoeggr Well Robin mocked Cobra when he said that his family was protecting the Poneyglyph which I always thought was a possible hint of the Nefertari's involvement in the creation of the World Government. Of course it could have been something else but it always felt like a scene that was hinting at something deeper.

If it comes from the interview with Conan's mangaka, I remember reading a translation that was way more nuanced than that tweet.
Yes, here is the interview for anyone who wants to read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSZ8bE7VDpLQhbvT5B9zTqAaHw9NHFxRd-4tA7Dh-4Xe0riNQZOvhOoDa2b2_euttfOzz6PMAe76MHg/pub
Oda's explanation of why he did this is far more detailed and nuanced than Sandman's abridged translation made it out to be. -

Don’t know if this has been posted before
And for years I thought he was going to have the diamond diamond fruit and Oda just switched it up because too many people predicted it
In this interview he's talking about Absalom because Shiriyu hadn't even shown up with the fruit yet lol Sandman only mentioned him there because it was the most recent example but Oda didn't mention him in the real interview.
I always thought some people on this forum were always very arrogant about this diamond theory (not you) so I laughed a lot when it was revealed that it wasn't that. -

So, Franky lost the position of father to Jinbe and became... the grandMOther??? Ok, I love it.
(also, I don't want to get into the shipping department, but it's interesting considering Robin is the "mother" and while some people saw some chemistry between her and Franky before, she had a kind of "flirting" attitute towards Jinbe in Wano). This was revealed in SBS volume 99

You have to wonder if the series' sheer length makes that kind of setup inevitable, from early releases not quite feeling out the tone, a lurch forward, and then settling into something that better reflects its growing legacy. Do other languages have similar stories?
Here in Brazil we had the first edition of One Piece made by a publisher called Conrad. They made it to volume 35 until it was cancelled.
I never read this version but friends who read it said it was a good translation but with some stupid mistakes (like Edwar D Newgate) or strange romanizations (Ruffy, Bibi) and weird decisions like making the characters swear.
However, some time later they canceled it and the publisher Panini took over, they brought the same translator back and she, more experienced, polished her translation better and made it more enjoyable to read. In addition to being able to correct some terms that at the time were not very clear.
My only criticism of this translation is that sometimes it adapts too much and the dialogue becomes a little weird, but overall it is infinitely better than the translation of the Brazilian scans.
So this translator stayed until volume 46, from volume 47, the translator who took over was one of the biggest One Piece fans that I know, he was relatively well-known in the Brazilian fandom for having one of the first One Piece websites we had(which was a great encyclopedia of the series since he translated information from the Databooks that we didn't have access to here) he does a great job with the manga and you can see how much he loves the series. I'm always impressed by their creativity in translating speech mannerisms as something most translators ignore. -

RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@zeltrax225 In Oda's statement about the Shichibukai not being initially planned, he comments that his five-year plan would be "a tale of fighting the Yonkous" so introducing the Shichibukai and the plots surrounding them was the reason the manga lasted so long.
If I understand correctly what Oda meant then Alabasta was not part of Oda's five year plan it was created to accommodate Crocodille. -
