@fana:
Aoyama having a guilty conscience all along while at the time of one of the incident he was shown as almost having fun talking about his whereabouts didn't fit.
I'm starting to think his fun/flamboyant attitude that he's become known for is actually his cover.
That's why he always came off as strange, eccentric, unnatural/unnerving etc
(to the point Deku was scared of him when he was acting sus, before he realized he was trying to cheer him up)
I would have no problem believing that he was like that on purpose, that it was all an act.
Forced aloofness to mask the turmoil within, while also covering up any "unusual behaviour" suspicions by acting "unusual" 24/7.
That's the irony in Deku and Hakagure only recently noticing something's up,
because Aoyama's usual mask is down, and THAT'S made him appear unusual. I like it.
Of course, even if the main idea behind my post in untrue,
I don't think of his USJ comment as intentional fun.
I think of it more like "I don't want anyone asking about my whereabouts, so I'll bring it up first"
It comes off as elaborate deflection to me.
Distractive aloofness is a common deceptive tactic used in real life all the time.
If someone asked him about where he was or who he fought (out of curiosity),
it would be suspicious if he mentioned a location in which it was impossible for him to go unnoticed,
so in that situation he would have likely struggled for an answer and floundered.
By taking initiative and addressing the topic in his own quirky terms, he ends that potential thread before it begins.
