Loved the chapter. I was expecting that Sanji would just trample over BM pirates stationed before the mirror. Was glad to see the Charlottes hold their own, just like in the wedding.
I must be one of the few that actually think that the Big Mom pirates are a very capable crew. The only exceptions would be Opera lying about Luffy's death and… oh boy, Smoothie... Who, again, in this chapter, decides to do nothing....
Chapter 897: Pekoms' Cacao Island Escape Plan
-
-
no doubt Oda's drained of creative ideas. it's all coming to Luffy's luck now and his thicc plot armor
Well, I mean we recently had a guy that is a literal human magic lamp, but okay I guess that's not creative.
-
Yeah, not saying any of my hypothetical plans would have succeeded. Just saying the attempt would've shown that Sanji had put more thought into everything you yourself pointed out and decided to try something other than directly rushing in. Again, not a big deal, just not really a good showing for Sanji…...AGAIN! In fact, it doesn't really seem like he had any impact on Luffy's predicament whatsoever.
I agree, but I have faith that Sanji will get his time to actually really shine before this arc is over!

getting punched and beaten by Smoothie/Snack/Big Mom/Oven wouldn't count as "shine"

Almost everyone is assembled now, only the Firetank Delivery Service and Big Mom are left. And when that cake is eaten and their momma is saved, he's gonna get the credit.

Great Chapter
Nice to see the Sanji Luffy
Pekom's sulong didn't look that interesting. Maybe he didn't transform but I thought he did
Glad to see big mom isn't full of chumps again. The Sanji and Luffy scenes were nice though
Kind of wished we saw a bit more of a plan from Sanji but he'S not done yet
The vinsmoke surprise was well executed and Badass.
Regarding Pekoms' sacrifice and Pedro stopping him, I feel it's a red herring, he got taken out pretty easily and will probably be rescued somewhat by the germs -
This little skirmish seems to be quite the quandary for AP users. Both sides consist of the people whose slightest moments of weakness will cause them to be berated by disappointed users a la irresistible force meets immovable object

That giant from the Sabaody Auction House is back!! He's friggin back! And he's got a fine beard and a shiny warrior's attire. I wondered when Oda would bring him back, but never expected it to be now. The chapter was good for me, although I wish both Pekoms and Sanji could have done a little bit more. But I guess we should not underestimate a huge gathering of an Emperor's forces. That moment with Sanji and Luffy being back together was really sweet too. That is what the SHPs are all about

When those things happened?

Show sulong form isn't invincible though. Block the eye or attack during transformations are weak points for them.
Same wish Sanji will have time to shine in the next few chapters. I assume he'll take on Oven or another heavy hitter.
Like how Sanji was worried for Pekoms their.
Doubt the will remove his eyes though I'm sure we shall see him fullly transform.
the panel shows he was hit by their weapons, but I'm assuming his haki or sulong form protected him.
-
I would love to see Sanji x Smoothie. "I can't fight, I'm not allowed to hurt a woman", "I can't fight, I'm not allowed to do anything"… it would be our Metapod x Metapod.

Wonder if the Vinsmoke tech is geared alot toward sea battles. It would be a good way to thin down BM's fleet if they are simply lots of ol'wooden ships up against the high tech snails of doom.
When the Vinsmokes were introduced, and Reiju kicked Yonji to the sea, it started giving me ideas. They have no kingdom, I thought maybe an ancient weapon had erased their country. Could be Uranus, if it is an air weapon, the Vinsmokes' boots could be a counter measure to that.
-
No wonder Snack got defeated and removed from commanders before this arc even started and barely shows up in small panels at the end of this arc, he looks like a joke and is doing nothing.
-
Judging people on appearances in One Piece of all things, crazy.
-
As I said in other posts, looks like Sanji is going to get some upgrade using a Black Raid Suit. He looks overpowered by the others constantly in this arc.
And you will be wrong like all the other times you brought it up.
-

Going to hazard a guess that the Uranus (whatever it is) wasn't involved. Based on how the Pluton is spoken of by Crocodile, Spandam, and the Galley-La shipwrights, I think it's safe to assume that if any of the Ancient Weapons were found and used (at least, provably so), it would be a monumental event that none of the powers that be could ignore, comparable to someone launching a nuke in the real world.
What, admittedly little, we've heard of the Germa Kingdom's backstory implies that they were overthrown and either fled or were cast out. If the Uranus was involved, I imagine that'd be little more than a footnote for the incident, rather than it's conclusion.
-
Germa very likely used "Stealth" technology that Niji used against Sanji at start of this arc.
Ah, right, thanks. I wasn't certain if that was a thing or if I was misremembering. Either way I'd have preferred some sort of clue beforehand or a more subtle introduction. We knew all along that they were coming anyway, so rather than to create a shallow surprise for the audience there could have been value in showcasing their approach. Such as it is, the execution relies too much on a rule-of-cool-I'm-winging-it sort of storytelling for my liking.

I am at work to check, but how old did Judge say his grudge was? Could be something that happened a long time ago. I am not that into the idea as much though, since their introduction, many things changed.

4 Pandaman in just 1 Chapter
Amazing lolol -
@Long:
Well they could be pretty far away since the vinsmokes went ahead on foot and the ships were the ones who launched the cannons.
There's also the possibility of them coming from the opposite side of the strawhats. Besides once things got crazy with luffy coming out it's not like they were paying attention to the coasyI'll grant that the army surrounding the mirror on land had other things on their minds. There's also the stealth suits and the siblings could have acted as a vanguard indeed. But the ships ? Unless I'm misremembering things there are at least 2 full fleets of the BM pirates here, of which one is spread all around Cacao island. It's nothing short of a miracle that absolutely no-one caught sight of these huge snails - and lets not forget the giant floating castle. They could believably have seen them coming like, an hour ago.
So yeah, I guess that must be Oda subtly foreshadowing why you should have a competent look-out onboard your ship. Carrot for nakama, yeehee :ninja:
-
They apparently, and seemingly quite easily, sunk a ten thousand man strong fleet who knew they were coming. If they can do that then it seems feasible that they could easily do the same against another fleet with the added element of suprise. Add to that, that these people are supposed to have technology that gives everyone boners over how great and desireable it is. The factors all check out in my book

Amazing lololFor real?
I tried to look for him at first, but just got bored.
Another great thing of this chapter… is this:
Oven got flame vision, like Superman or Powerpuff girls DDDDDDDD:
That is awesome. -
Oda created new type of hunger in me..
I hunger for fully healthy Luffy going against a group of decently strong fighters that underestimate him.
Like raging army or group like we have now on Cacao Island. But unlike those two situations where Luffy is on his last leg, I want Gear Fourth Luffy to mop the floor with this type of group of pirates. Series of pages where he sends decently strong people flying with Kong Gun after Rhino Schneiders and so on. Would be a blast visually and would show how far Luffy has came with his strength beside 1 vs 1 fights.

That is awesome.I expect that Luffys awakening power might be alike to Owens- Luffy turning area where he looks into rubber.
Though it would be cool if he has to touch something to make it rubbery.
-
So, what are the chances Pekoms goes on his rampage, only to her the words "STOP PEKOMS" come from Pedro's mouth seconds before he does something terrible?
-

Oh, I'm not questioning the Germa's might or the fact they were able to reach Sanji in the confusion - both are perfectly fine by me. My beef, rather, is with Oda's choice to pass it as a (hardly believable) surprise and off-panel their arrival until the chapter's conclusion instead of showing it more substantially. They could have been spotted by the BM crews and still reach their goal, albeit with some opposition - that might even have been a good opportunity to showcase the extent of their science/abilities. Or there could have been glimpses of something approaching, people suddenly staring at the horizon, a lingering impression that something's brewing up. Even knowing they're on their way, there could have been tension in whether they would have made it in time, or if they were here to help at all… At the end of the day I'm glad to see the Vinsmoke siblings, but I think their comeback could have been more entertaining.
-
Oh boy, it sure seems that Pedro might return and stop Pekoms in Sulong form (if he indeed manages to shake of the Big Mom pirates on top of him).
I was expecting Pedro's return to be something like Pagaya or Pell: totally useless to the story, just so people wouldn't be sad. But now it seems like it could be part of the main story.Or, if Pekoms is stopped now from entering his Sulong form, their relationship could be developed during Wano, where Pekoms would go with the Strawhats. It would be something like the return of Igaram, only after some arcs and to bring a resolution to the conflict (maybe Pekoms going berserk-sulong in Wano).
-
What's the over-under on Pekoms having lost an eye when he got taken down?
-
I imagine Pekoms can turtle up and tank a lot of blows, unless his mind is lost or something. Hopefully his eyes are alright
poor guy
-
Hopefully his eyes are alright
poor guy
Thematically it would be perfect to have him end up looking like Pedro.
-
Or, Luffy will be able to talk to Pekoms with his "Voice of all things" like Momo did with Zunisha.
-
Stansen looking fresh!, and that smile, tells me he is 100% in on following the Straw Hats. "Hajrudin! why are we leaving the messiah?!"
"To follow the GOD".Where is Zeus?
Pekoms, Pekoms, Mystoms. I see, it makes even more sense now. I wonder if he can use/control electro. If Pekoms transforms into Sulong he dies. Pekoms went there to sacrifice himself like Pedro. So many options: He could try again to learn to control Sulong. Pedro still is the one to calm him down. Someone new. For the last option, maybe Luffy?, but he is asleep, Carrot? Moving forward, if Pekoms transforms in this arc, he will die, that would be three in one arc, how Oda changes. Either way, I do not think Pekoms can stay with the Big Mom pirates, he has to go.
Pekoms is so cute, he still thought he was not going to be recognized, jajajaja. He was suppressed before he could fully transform, impressive. Just be safe my boy, you have a mission, you have to live on.
Raisan did not Enel face, he was just kicked in the face. This was a pretty funny chapter. I really like the Big Mom pirate with the scythe flying through the sky. Germa can finally repay their debt to Sanji, because last time they tried they got decimated. Without Big Mom this should be easy.
I guess Big Mom is the last big final entrance. Unless she does eat the cake elsewhere. I thought it would have been simpler to bring them all together. Seems like not even Smoothie saw the Germa come in.
-
Or, Luffy will be able to talk to Pekoms with his "Voice of all things" like Momo did with Zunisha.
Luffy gonna be out for like the rest of the arc, this in't happening.
-
What's the over-under on Pekoms having lost an eye when he got taken down?
I saw blood and a yell, and that scythe or whatever went somewhere right after they said they'd do it, so…
This isn't a death, so it's not like it's exactly impossible to picture, especially this arc. We'll know soon enough I suppose.
-
The problem i have with this chapter is that sanji has been so underwellming this arc. I wanted him to crash the party and beat some people up. He got stopped by some dudes that used moonwalk. Remember sky is where he is more comfortable fighting. Sky battles are his speciality,,, :@
-
While I totally understand people feeling it's underwhelming his mysterious plan was "grab Luffy and run", maybe it's too soon to assume we already saw all of it.
-
Can't Pekoms transforms into a Turtle and hide in his shell?
-
@K.:
Seems like not even Smoothie saw the Germa come in.
You say that as if you were surprised.
And even if she did saw them, considering the efficiency she had shown during the whole arc, it wouldnt have made any difference. -
So the Germa will be annihilated next chapter in order for the BM pirates to save face? I guess being attacked by such a hyped organisation justifies the ruined party. Somewhat.
Maybe we can hope that Smoothie sucks them dry or whatever else she can do. Horizontal-sword-sucker-swing! Yes?
-
Well
Smoothie's already beaten them before
-
Sanji's plans have never been particularly nuanced. He broke into Rain Dinners by having Chopper run around outside as a decoy and he fought his way through the Sea Train only to be overwhelmed by CP9.
He'll definitely still have a role to play in the remainder of the escape, though, considering that his family doing all the work for him would be pretty antithetical to his arc with them.
-
It is once hinted before in the story that when using that techno suit that they boasted before (forgot the name), germa is near invicibles…
Well except when the enemy is a well known pirate with a yonkou and first class commanders..... Or combined main squad of one or two marine admiral. -
Sanji will save Luffy as much as Luffy defeated Katakuri..
-
Anyone notice Ichiji's hands are covered in blood?

I got the "there is no way that was you" as an answer to Pound because he was having delusional thoughts that he was surprisingly strong. And of course he didn't had a clue who Sanji was… he was wearing a mask.
So all the evidence is there to show Sanji wasn't seen, Sanji says himself he'll do it so fast he cant be seen, an ability show off. But you're arguing he was seen. Ok.
-
They defeated off screen the few guys that were shooting at Sanji and Luffy. That's why his hand are bloody.

Well Ichiji was clearly portrayed as the most merciless of the bunch.
-

Except there isn't, unless you take Oven saying "Who was that just now!?" as an evidence he didn't noticed there was someone there just now.

Sanji's still smoking… So that wasn't Puddin-chan last wish... What could it be? Please, forget me:blink:
