I folded east blue into two movies (Orange Town and Loguetown) with he other arcs condensed down into subplots within those arcs. It's not graceful by any means (and certainly an awful idea in context of a feature film) but finding a way to make all the arcs concurrent would play more like soap opera TV ala Game of Thrones. Whether they can do that well though remains to be seen.

I don't know, but I'm pretty optimistic for this after reading about the showrunner Steven Maeda, and finding about how much Oda himself is working towards this becoming a reality. We did a video talking about it, as I believe they can do a great show even if it won't follow the manga story to the exact point. Like Marvel have done with MCU - as long as it is true to the characters it can become something different but still great.

I respect your opinion, but I've thought about this a good deal as well, and I feel like (if the episodes are in the 40-60 minute range, longer the better) ten episodes is the perfect number for covering East Blue. I think keeping up a brisk pace will be one of the keys to making this series work. So to me, it would work best like this:
And as much as I love Gaimon, and I'd definitely include him in a video game RPG adaptation, I just don't see him being relevant enough to anything to include him.
I am really having a hard time wrapping my head around a live action One Piece series that works without either losing all its charm and whimsy or else really corny.
I feel some of the strawhat concepts could be like the commercial that aired in japan
I reckon they're going to end the first season with Syrup or Baratie. I think Syrup for two reasons:
1. Kuro murdering his crew indiscriminately, being the polar opposite of Luffy, feels like a more appropriate place to end the season thematically than Krieg. Just chuck in some more parallels and you're golden.
2. Going after Nami would be a good goal for the second season, and it happens after Syrup, early in Baratie. It would lead on into a second season if it ends with the Nami's departure cliffhanger.
I do think that Zoro's loss to Mihawk would better fit towards the end of a season, though, and a small break between Baratie and finding Nami would be appropriate (for R&R for the crew, at least). If they end with Baratie, I expect Nami to depart later than in the series, but still before the end of the arc. Season 2 would predominantly be Arlong Park regardless, which is the first 'hook' arc for a lot of people. It'll end with Loguetown as a single episode, probably.
Regardless, I don't believe they'll finish East Blue in the first season. I think Arlong Park is where things get whacky with races and visuals, and the prosthetics and CG on the fishmen would probably require more budget than anyhing beforehand. Dedicating most of a season's budget to it would be nice.
If they need two whole seasons just to get to the Grand Line, it'll be like Season 15 for them to get to Wano. That's just not feasible and pretty unrealistic. They'll just have to cut some corners here and there.
I feel like they are going to fit the whole East Blue Saga into one season. Wish it was 13 episode but it is going to be 10. Hope future seasons have more episodes if it is successful. They can change to 16 episode format if they have a part 1&2 seasons.We also don't know the episode length of each, so they can be 45min, 50min, 1 hr, or more format. The format they will never do will be the Chinese TV drama format. They can do 40, 50, 60, 70, or more episodes per a season.

CP9 Saga and Water 7 Saga are the same thing. Thriller Bark and Fishman Island are too short to be their own seasons.
One thing to keep in mind is the budget per episode. If this is going to be as expensive as we think it will be, it's in their best interest to keep every season short with each episode being 45mins or 60 mins long.
I'm genuinely surprised the first season isn't 8 episodes.
I think 8 episode would be too short. 10 episodes is already too short for One Piece but because of huge budget, it has to be short.
Episode of Series from One Piece Anime already shown that if you force too little time, it can ruin a story.
Breakneck speed can ruin a series. Look at what happen to Season 7&8 of Game of Thrones.
Now too many episodes can cause a series to slow down in its pacing and force them to use filler to fill in the gap. Like most of Netflix Marvel tv shows. All should those shows should of been 10 episodes instead of 13.
I also don't like the season format storytelling for arc based story. I wish they introduce arc format storytelling format. If an arc required 10 episode, make 10 episodes. If an arc required 12 episodes, make 12 episodes. If an arc required 30 episode, make 30 episodes. I think the business side will not let that happen and I don't think anyone has try attempt this. Story not business dictate the amount of episode being made.
Also depending on actors and actress, some might not want to stay in series for 10+ years. So it is better to keep it under 10 years, if it ever reach those seasons.
Sabaody Archipelago Arc can be part of Thriller Bark Saga Season. I think ending that saga with that cliffhanger would be great for that season.
Return to Sabaody Arc with Fishman Island Arc should be enough for Fishman Island Saga Season.

I hope this and Netflix's live action Last Airbender does well. It can open up to future live action Hollywood Costume/Historical Martial Art Fantasy tv shows which includes Shonen Jump Anime, wuxia(wire fu), xianxia(immortal fantasy), Video Game fantasy. Hollywood doesn't really make these type of shows in that genre. (Into the Badlands, Macro Polo, Wu Assassin(some parts), just aren't very good) Surprisingly China make the most out of that genre and not Japan or South Korea.
Not news directly related to the Live action show, but the showrunner, Matt Owens has apparently been approached to co-write a Star Wars movie.
I'm really hyped for the live action show because of Owens, I loved his episodes of Agents of SHIELD, so it's cool to see his career going to cool places.

Works nice. I don't think they'll outright skip Gaimon, since for futureproofing they probably wouldn't do anything that other adaptations (4kids) dug themselves into. Cut it down, sure. But not skipping. Luffy's backstory capping the first act also makes sense, and it's short enough that Gaimon could be used as the framing device for it. Nami should leave by either episode 5 or 6, because you need that "oh shit" moment mid-season, and the earlier arlong (aka the arc that everyone says is where the story picks up) is set up the better.
There's no reason to not have all of East Blue happen in one season. A faithful adaptation =/= a good adaptation. There's no reason why a story like Buggy's can't happen in an episode. The same with Usopp. The information you need from those stories are simple enough (Buggy, Nami, Usopp. That's it), and their themes aren't complex enough to demand anything else than an episode. That leaves much more room to beef up Baratie (which is a perfect mid-season story), and heighten the stakes for Arlong. Everything "taken out" of the previous stories could be put in Baratie/Arlong instead, as far as any thematic aspects or character development.
*As far as cover stories, they could either spend an episode/place them in lighter episodes; or, more interestingly, adapt them as post-credits scenes. That could easily look like:
Ep. 1-4: Colby's story
Ep. 5-9: Buggy's story
Otherwise, they're skipped, or made into shorts.
This will be interesting. But it can also get silly real fast. Japenese live action adaptions tend to look overly cosolay-y, whereas American ones just fail to capture the essence of the source material. A middle ground is nice. Will Luffy look like a hillbilly wearing that straw hat? Will his stretching look good? Translating people who arw super powered is to screen is hard.
Do not have a live action Zoro fight with a third sword in his mouth!
