I hope this and Netflix's live action Last Airbender does well. It can open up to future live action Hollywood Costume/Historical Martial Art Fantasy tv shows which includes Shonen Jump Anime, wuxia(wire fu), xianxia(immortal fantasy), Video Game fantasy. Hollywood doesn't really make these type of shows in that genre. (Into the Badlands, Macro Polo, Wu Assassin(some parts), just aren't very good) Surprisingly China make the most out of that genre and not Japan or South Korea.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I think 8 episode would be too short. 10 episodes is already too short for One Piece but because of huge budget, it has to be short.
Episode of Series from One Piece Anime already shown that if you force too little time, it can ruin a story.
Breakneck speed can ruin a series. Look at what happen to Season 7&8 of Game of Thrones.
Now too many episodes can cause a series to slow down in its pacing and force them to use filler to fill in the gap. Like most of Netflix Marvel tv shows. All should those shows should of been 10 episodes instead of 13.I also don't like the season format storytelling for arc based story. I wish they introduce arc format storytelling format. If an arc required 10 episode, make 10 episodes. If an arc required 12 episodes, make 12 episodes. If an arc required 30 episode, make 30 episodes. I think the business side will not let that happen and I don't think anyone has try attempt this. Story not business dictate the amount of episode being made.
Also depending on actors and actress, some might not want to stay in series for 10+ years. So it is better to keep it under 10 years, if it ever reach those seasons.
Sabaody Archipelago Arc can be part of Thriller Bark Saga Season. I think ending that saga with that cliffhanger would be great for that season.
Return to Sabaody Arc with Fishman Island Arc should be enough for Fishman Island Saga Season. -
RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I feel like they are going to fit the whole East Blue Saga into one season. Wish it was 13 episode but it is going to be 10. Hope future seasons have more episodes if it is successful. They can change to 16 episode format if they have a part 1&2 seasons. We also don't know the episode length of each, so they can be 45min, 50min, 1 hr, or more format. The format they will never do will be the Chinese TV drama format. They can do 40, 50, 60, 70, or more episodes per a season.
Episode 1&2: Romancing Dawn Arc
Some Episode 2&3: Orange Town Arc
Some of Episode 3&4: Syrup Town Arc
Episode 5&6: Baratie Arc
Episode 7&8&9: Arlong Park Arc
Episode 10: Loguetown ArcI feel every season might be a saga.
Season 1 East Blue Saga
Season 2 Alabasta Saga
Season 3 Sky Island Saga
Season 4 Water 7 Saga
Season 5 Thriller Bark Saga
Season 6 Summit War Saga
Season 7 Fish-Men Island Saga
Season 8 Dressrosa Saga
Season 9 Yonko Saga -
RE: The Whole Cake Island Whole Arc Discussion Thread - Reviews for Totland
I think one of the things that long running manga is that it will shows both the author's strengths and weakness. All authors run out of ideas at some point. It is when you run out of idea, what is your default story solution and formula?
Whole Cake Island and Dressrosa show that some of his present day stuff are recycle too much from his previous arcs but weaker.
Most anime/manga shows usually fall off after time-skip a little bit or a lot depending on author. I use to get hype for timeskip but seeing what happen to series after it happen. I don't care about it as much. (The only ones that I thought were just as strong after timeskip are Jo Jo Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball)Oda still is very good at world building and for the most part still very good at flashback. (Even thought WCI arc's flashback are so average.)
His arcs are just too long now. (If you didn't like that arc, you could always look forward to the next one but now you have to wait at least 50 to 100 chapters before he started a new one) Did we really need 78 chapters for WCI(This could of been a way shorter arc) or 102 chapters for Dressrosa(This could of been broken up to 2 arcs like how Water7 and Enies Lobby was)?
An arc should be less than 40 chapters but a saga could be over 100 chapters. He has huge pacing issues once it goes beyond 50 chapters for an arc. Having 1 or two small arc before the giant one are good for a series. -
RE: The Whole Cake Island Whole Arc Discussion Thread - Reviews for Totland
I thought that the arc that was average. It started out badly but ended up decent. Like it feeling like Alice and Wonderland. Didn't like it at the beginning feeling like a way weaker version of Thriller Bark and CP9 Arc. Like the location. Still don't like that the arc was this long. Still think that the Zou Arc was still Oda best post timeskip Arc.
I still didn't like the set up and the build up of Sanji vs Luffy. Luffy vs Ussop underlining motivation was way better. Wish it was Zoro vs Sanji. (We could of had a break of Luffy for an arc. Sometimes I feel like One Piece overuse their main character like Dragon Ball and Naruto. This is an ensemble story so use your ensemble cast well.) Zoro bring back Sanji would of been deeper because of their history. It would of been different if he drag him back and can't face his captain if he couldn't kept his promise. (Remember Zoro's promises?) Sanji could of been dealing with a better motivation. They could of explore the concept of how much is their job is their identity. Is Sanji nothing without his hands as a cook? (Image how Zoro logic play with losing a limb of something) Is he a nobody if he is not a cook and is being a cook the only thing that makes him a Straw Hat? (Image a speech from Zoro that convincing Sanji coming back to the crew) (I feel like they could of went the Stain(My Hero Academia) route. Deeply exploring a complex profession theme of the show) Family theme is overuse by now by movies and tv shows. Luffy dragging back a crew-mate was way better in CP9 Saga.
I like the crew of Big Mama. Big Mama, Katakuri, Perospero, Brulee, Cracker, Pudding, and Chiffon were decent. I don't know if I like the insane part of Big Mama's character. Some Big Mama's crew was well develop and some was badly develop. It is better than Thriller Bark cast of character. But felt even with the Dofamingo crew. Like the part where Luffy still need room to grow in power.
The extended backstory of Sanji was okay. None of the backstory in this arc was above average. Germa 66 was very underwhelming.
Chopper was wasted character. Carrot, Nami, Jinbe, Brook were decent in this arc.
Didn't we already went through Jinbe not really joining the crew in Fishmen Island?
Bege was way better than I thought. The events/pacing that extended Luffy vs Katakuri fighting was way better than Doflamingo vs Luffy. The chase at the end felt like One Piece formula 101. Like the post arc stuff.

RE: If there WAS a live-action One Piece film…
Movie run time format is just too small for One Piece. You would have to cut too much stuff. (The 10 episode or 13 episode tv series format is already going to cut some stuff)
Long movies(any movies over 2 hr and 1/2) aren't something that movie studios/theaters like for a business mode. -
RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
One of the thing they can learn from Game of Thrones episode format, is that they put their biggest battle/action/reaction scenes in episode 9 or an episode before the finale.
(It will all depends on if they are going to use 10 or 13 episode model.) Having a post arc episode finale might be are great way to world build, lore build, and foreshadow things to come.
One Piece has some of the best post-arc stories. It will be a waste if they don't use it well. The last episode doesn't have to be a cliffhanger. (It will all depend on the arc.) -
RE: If there WAS a live-action One Piece film…
@Triumph:
I know people are going to tell at me… But ScarJo would make a good Robin. She's got a good attitude for it.
I would choose Eva Green more for Robin. Eva has a more exotic look. She also willing to do TV show(Penny Dreadful and Camelot) over Scarlett.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
Yeah, exactly. Cause I guarantee it WILL be a shit show.
If it fails, then so be it.
If it succeed it will open the door for live action Anime to the world. Wouldn't it be awesome if One Piece open the door for live action Anime?
At least they understand that they shouldn't do a movie series for One Piece.
I am also waiting for who the show-runner for it. It has to be a person who is fan or can be a fan of One Piece, understands principle of long story arc storyteller, and understand how fictional lore base franchise works. (We don't want end up like Kathleen Kennedy's Star War) -
RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
What about Jamie Lee Curtis for Dr. Kureha? (I don't know how expensive she is after Halloween)
What about Bryan Cranston for Garp? (He will playing a character that is inbetween Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle Role) I think he can bring the threat and joy of Garp. (He just not that built)
What about David Bradley for Dr. Hiluluk(Walder Frey from Game of Thrones)? He can go from being one of the most hated character to one most touching character. If he can pull off it, it would be shocking to audience.
