Pretty much. In fact, if the newspaper article about Jinbe is true and he was somehow manipulated by Big Mom's powers to go back on his deal, then Brook may be able to reverse the effects. But that's just going into fan fiction territory since we have no evidence about other capabilities of Big Mom's Soul Soul powers and the roulette incident in general. But Brook and Pedro being the only ones aware of Jinbe's situation with Big Mom while separated from the rest of the Straw Hats as they sneak into her lair to get a copy of her Red Poneglyph's scriptures is quite interesting and could pay off in some unexpected fashion. Because I seriously doubt that their espionage operation is going to go off without a hitch lol.
Chapter 835: The Nation of Souls

I see what you're saying. Big Mom and Big Eater are more than likely related. Their relation might be why Bonney is free after being captured by Akainu.
More than likely related? Lol, there's absolutely no proof for this, and I'd say most evidence points in the opposite direction. You really think if she was one of Big Mom's unmarried daughters she'd also be a world famous pirate doing what she wants wherever she wants? If I was a betting man, I'd bet a lot of money that her story lies elsewhere.

Well time for my weekly comment.
I liked this chapter(ok I like almost every chapter, but still)
I think the discussion in the first couple pages was about countering fruits, not if Brooke or Bruelle or whatever her name is could take down BM and kizaru
Also where else could mami have pulled the climatic from for it to be a surprise? I don't think that was meant to be Pervy, IDs just wanted nami to dish out a surprise attack and if she's just holding it or has it strapped to her leg the enemy can clearly see it. Luckily for her she has big enough boobs to hide her weapon.
Only read the first two pages so these are my thoughts so far. Should probably go to bed as its 3am here, but I'm enjoying the discussion and I'll read more instead

Why do I have a feeling they are going to have to fight Cracker in order to save Lola's dad, because he seems he would be crucial to helping them?
I guess his job is done: explaining Big Moms ability, connecting Big Mom and Lola. They will find their way out with Big Moms VivreCard (which is probably in Namis bra or under the Log Pose or whatever). They will save him though.
-
So does that mean Alladin, Jimbei and his Fishmen have a shorter lifespan now? That… kinda sucks.
-
Wow that chapter was short. And we'll probably not have a chapter next week. Such a bummer. I can only imagine how Big Mom can use her DF in actual combat. And if the process of sharing lifespan is even reversible. At least Nami is with Luffy now. Can't even imagine that our hero is worth 500M when everything is fucking with him.
Lol literally best point made in this thread for me. So true
-
@Count:
It is indeed true that Brook stands absolutely no chance against Big Mom's strength regardless of whether or not his Devil Fruit makes him immune to Big Mom's lifespan-stealing powers. At most, it'll be played up a gag or two. But what is interesting is the versatility of Brook's Devil Fruit allowing him to manipulate souls by playing music effects that induce hallucinations and fatigue that causes sleep.

! [qimg]http://i.imgur.com/Gz9ydWg.png[/qimg]Given how Brook's Devil Fruit powers are loosely defined to fit pretty much anything related to lore about the afterlife, I can see Oda writing Brook's music incantations to be capable of manipulating those incarnations of Big Mom's soul, the soul pieces of Totland's citizens, and maybe even the inanimate objects and animals that were given souls.
I can imagine Brook walking around Chocolate town playing music followed by the citizens ' souls (like the fairy tale with the mice - I don't know the English name)
-
So does that mean Alladin, Jimbei and his Fishmen have a shorter lifespan now? That… kinda sucks.
well it has only been 2 years since whitebeard fell..at best they have lost 4 months of lifespan, nothing major
the full effect of that it's kinda minimal if you are not someone who passes his entire life on totland, since 30 years of living there take 5 years from you,and 60 take 10@Candide:I guess his job is done: explaining Big Moms ability, connecting Big Mom and Lola. it's the father of nami's bff,of course they are gonna save him
-
Even if that means beating the ass of the mother, borthers and sisters of Nami's bff
-
-
So Carrot has two claw weapons now? So why did she only have one claw weapon on Zou?
She always had 2 claws. See her in the fight against Jack.
-
It seems that Big Mom's power can only be used after asking the target to choose his life or something else. She did it to Muscat and does it again to the residents of Totland. Also, if the translation is correct, then the souls can't be put on "someone else", but it leaves the posibility of returning souls to the original owner.
-
What will happen if BM tries to eat Brook's soul? Brook's life expectancy is 0. And he is DF user so eating Brook's soul will make BM "explode" because of the two DF interaction.
In the end : Brook may be BM natural enemy.
exactly what i was thinking when i read the chapter… there must be an interesting interaction between the "soul king" and the soul soul user

@Lao:
Can Brûlée put up her mirror at the speed of light tho?
if luffy can dodge a speed of light beam, she must be able to block it too

This chapter also squashes that one theory I heard on a couple of places that Devil Fruit Users can't have kids.
That was squashed when Capone Bege introduced his son.
-
Wouldn't it be cool if when a DF user has a kid, some of their power is transferred to their child? like maybe a weaker version…So Akainu has a kid but he has just fire instead of magma. loll Ace is Akainu's son confirmed.
-

That would be lame.

I would feel really sorry for the mother giving birth to that
-
I would feel really sorry for the mother giving birth to that
I would feel sorry for whoever would give birth to Buggy's kid. Imagine their head coming out severed from the body at childbirth.
So… Does anyone think that Carrot might have some Through the Looking Glass adventures in Brulee's Mirror World? Brûlée seems too minor of a character to get power expanded upon that much, but it would be interesting.
!
-
I'm glad we finally got an answer for why that rabbit guy who chased Nami, Chopper, and Carrot around for awhile was such a stone faced mute. That bugged me.
I wonder if there's any special significance behind why the "Incarnations" of Big Mom's soul look different from the other souls we see, or if it's just an artistic choice that won't amount to anything.
Finally, looking at the penguins in the colour spread again makes me wish Chopper was one instead. He would've been much more adorable if he was.
How did Big Mom put a piece of soul into a sun anyway?
It's probably either a model or drawing of the sun.
-

Nah reindeer chopper is more adorable
-
Oh ok… Shame over me
Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

that would be like pokemon breeding…
the kid could combine abilities from mother and father, would be potentially overpowered -
I think that "Meadows" character is actually Kaidou.
-
I am thinking… What are the chances that Pedro lost a fraction of his soul to Big Mom the first time he set foot on Totland? Then, we'll learn that his soul settled on Randolph the rabbit. Hehe, he'll be like the Thriller Bark's Brook, yes? Here's hoping we get him alongside Jimbe after the arc.

I don't think the soul keeps any habits or personality of the original user, since Big Mom does this every 6 months, I think it deteriorates probably so probably not Pedros.
As for Pedro joining the SHs, highly doubtly…I think he'll go back to Pirating with Pekoms though and become an Ally
-
How anyone can want Pedro at all when Carrot is a thing is SUPER beyond me. Pedro is another swordsman. Carrot is a martial arts using female.
"COME ON!" (GOB style)Also I think we can safely assume that when they said the souls don't settle into humans, Oda probably included all of the other races of human intelligence. Minks, Long Arms, Long Necks, Fishmen, Giants, Dwarfs, and Long Legs. Obviously I don't really know shit, but to me it seems a reasonable sort of expectation.
F*cking Pedro. Seriously? COME ON
-
I understand why kids these days prefer Carrot. Pedro is cuts above any minks though not named Nekomamushi and Inuarashi (in combat and reputation). And since we can't have them, if we ever get a mink crew mate, I definitely want Pedro.
-
But Carrot becoming a SH and surpassing Pedro would be even better
-
Goddamit, we've stucked in these woods for months. Why ? WHY ?!
Oda has the drag drag fruit; milking out petty events, stalling to get to interesting situations.
Besides the revealing of Big mom's ability and what it can do nothing really happened. -
Pedro is cuts above any minks though not named Nekomamushi and Inuarashi (in combat and reputation).
And horribly horribly below nearly all other Minks in the actually relevant category of personality and chemistry with crew members.
But of course none of this matters because absolutely none of these characters are joining the crew whatsoever. -

and the revealing of big guy's identity
and the introduction of a new BM pirate
and the flashback to what happened during the skirmish with Bruleeyeah, nothing at all
-
But this forest just is so boring. I want some real action. And nah, Cracker or Brulee won't do it. Screw the whole rising action phase, I want Luffy vs. Big Mom immidiately!!!
-

-
Personally, I think the forest and the current chapter were just fine, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Nami uses the information about Lola. But compared to Sanji's family drama, Brook and Pedro sneaking through Sweet City, and various smaller subplots (Jinbei, Capone, Caeser), it's probably my least favorite thing going on in this arc right now. I can understand why some people are anxious.

Those people don't give a flying fuck about anything your listing, and are just dragging their knuckles in circles until we get to the obligatory arc fights. Don't defend these fools.

Okay….well what other scenario do you have?
Bonney might not be blood related to Big Mom. That is very plausible. But she has been alluded to be around a candy themed area which is similar to Big Mom.
@KageKageKing:She always had 2 claws. See her in the fight against Jack.
One claw is always obscured in the flashback. But whatever. No biggie.
-
I like this arc actually, even this woods. Its probably just the impatience and many plot points happening all over the place that get the others agitated. I also like the fact that there are no annoying shits like Momonosuke around.

This is shaping up to be one of my favorite arcs for a lot of reasons, but the supporting cast is probably the biggest. Everyone so far is either likable or intriguing.
I hope I didn't just jinx anything -
Yeah this arc is amazing. This and Zou are just great.

I need to tell myself this everyday. It's the cold hard truth I need. CARRRROTTTTTTTT
-
I know this has nothing to do with the chapter, but i fucking love this episode lol. Stinkmeaner is the GOAT shit talking old man.
-
-
Stop
Quit it
FFS Stop feeding the troll, damn it!
This might sound stupid, but why did you forgot Monkey King?
-
Interesting chapter, lots of info. From what i could gather, Lin Lin has ghost minions like Perona, they take the soul bits according to his owner's permission and add it to animals or things. Maybe Lin Lin powers go much powerful than just take souls when she's taking the soul… but i can assure it when she goes on rampage. A new brand broken ability has been introduced.
The mirrow thing is cliché, just too much, i don't care about it. Lola's father got nice haircut.
-
I wonder, when Luffy will eventually knock the lights outta BM, will the soul fragments that she took from the people in Totland go back to their original owners? I just thought about this since her powers are parallel to Moria's and when he got KO'ed the shadows he took went back to their owners.
-
Big Mom obviously is the weakest yonko. Also to me it's clear that she doesn't stand a chance against any admiral. Her fruit just doesn't suit for a combat.
-
There really wasn't much more indication that Moria's fruit was suited for combat until he had an actual fight.
Don't underestimate Big Mom.
