I would say that it followed the predicted script too perfectly: Sabo had amnesia, his memory returns upon Ace's death, the entire mystery about him not making an attempt to rescue Ace is solved…
No surprises... =/

This was a good chapter, mainly because it answers all the Sabo questions and just get it over with, and after the big exposition from last week, this is good comfort food.
No waiting years to find out what happened.
This was a really beautiful, emotional and necessary chapter. Despite all that I just can't shake the feeling that Dressrosa is going so slow and that it just needs to wrap up fast and get going to the next arc (and to the Sanji group too). This is the second chapter in a very short time (the other being chapter 791) in which nothing actually happened/the story didn't go forward. Going by this pace if we get to the next arc before chapter 800 I'll be extra happy. And when I remember that the start of the Dressrosa arc was in chapter 700 which was released in March 2013 I realize all of a sudden that this arc has been going on for almost two and a half years and it just hits me "damn, bro, that was centuries ago, this better finish really quickly". And then I remember that there is no chapter next week and I get sad. It would have been a lot better if the break was after the previous chapter when a lot of things happened and not after this one when nothing happened. These are gonna be two long weeks But maybe Oda did this on purpose to mark the end of Dressrosa with this break and the next chapter finally moves to the Sanji group and the next arc
Saboala confirmed, they already look like they were made for each other.
Crows at the end, who could that be hmm?
Luffy And Sabo scene will live long in the memory, kid brother jumping on big brother haha Luffy almost drowned him with more tears than Rebecca did with him. Best chapter I've read in years. So many throwbacks too.
Franky fixing his eyeball only for the tears to blow it up again was funny.
I love how Dragon is as nonchalant about his son as Luffy was about him when his comrades found out.
So they are similar after all. Luffy flying backwards after the revelation was similar to Ivankov flying back when it found out Luffy was Dragon's son. Perfect winding down chapter and it can be inferred that Dragon does indeed have a beastly devil fruit.
From the flashback scenes I won't lie I did try to see if there were any female bombshells in the revs that could potentially be Luffy's mom XD but I'm doubting this more and more since Sabo hasn't mentioned anything.
the whole amnesia thing was really unnecessary and cliché.. just being too far away for being present at the war would have been enough of an explanation
Considering this is the first time in nearly 800 chapters that any character in One-Piece has had amnesia, and I'd bet it's the last time it happens too, I'd say it's fair that Oda gets to use it at least once.
Besides, it actually makes sense here, as he was under a lot of psychological duress and then suffered and then went through a pretty traumatic event.
Would you rather have had him just not be able to show up at the war? Have Dragon forbid him from not only letting his brothers know he was alive, but go save them?
In that second last page is Franky's newly built eye/socket short circuiting because of his tears? lol
Ace execution was announced few days before the war. Enough time to get there. Been too far away would have been B.S
I think it was a whole week, at least. Because it was announced before the crew was scattered on Sabaody.

i was ok with him just being too far away to arrive on time..
the grand line is huge, much bigger than most readers realize..luffy was barely able to get to impel down on time and amazon lily is really close to it..if sabo was somewhere on the new world at that time it wouldn't have been a stretch just to say that whatever he would have done,he wouldn't have been able to reach marineford in time for the execution,at least until someone in onepiece gets the teleport fruit (even though the door-door was kinda like that)
that was all the explanation we needed.

Well, medical amnesia, not someone's power, I guess. But considering one of the major themes of this arc is those who are forgotten, the Sabo thing works extra well.

What about the 10 years previous to this, then? Why did Sabo never let them know he was alive? That's a bigger issue than the war.
Koala is nowhere to be seen so that's it. She is all the crows.

because he didn't have a vivre card of the two brothrr..so finding them was basically finding the needle in a haystack, and he had much more important things to do for the revolutionaries…
ace managed to got in contact with luffy only beause he was on the same route following teach..it's not like he set sail and abandoned everything he was doing as a pirate just to get to luffy

Sure, it was probably on purpose.
About recurring theme, did Sabo actually use the words "bird cage" as a kid ? Or is it mangastream's interpretation ?

Isn't she in the middle panel there ? I prefer Hajro's Moria theory

Sure once they were spread on the grand line, but they were both on Goa for another 3 years after his death. Pretty easy to find them then. Plenty of time to write a letter.
And then, Ace, of course, became a famous pirate on Whitebeard's ship, which would have made him pretty easy to find.
I'm just saying, if my family thought I was dead, I would do everything in my power to let them know that I wasn't. Based on what we know about Sabo, he would have too.
An answer to why Kyros may have two legs now is that law some how got him a new one like he did with the fodder on Punk Hazard. Damn Forestry beat me to it on page 7 :getlost:

i really doubt the postal system reaches as far as the base of the revolutionaries..of course they could have send a ship or the crow dude to deliver a letter..but that would have been a lot to do for a little child when they have more important matters to deal with and they have to stay in secret, but it's true we don't know how gentle the revolutionaries are
for ace, being a part of whitebeard crew doesn't mean you can find it easily since they travel with a boat ,a boat that moves, and has no magnetism…things without a magnetism are pretty much impossible to find without a vivre card..you need a magnetism to follow to travel through the grand line, you can't just sail...hell the mugiwara weren't even able to reach the point where the knockup stream was going to appear and it wasn't very far from the coast of jaya, they needed the south bird
and i don't think the newspaper cover daily where any emperor is...we saw the marines have surveillance 24/7 on them, but it's not data accessible for sabo..of course he can move on rumors much like ace did searching for teach..but it would take a lot of time and luck
as per sabo,we don't really know what his priorities are or how free he is to act under the revoultionaries..he is the second in command,he has responsabilities towards a lot of people..it's not like he can say "by guys,i'm gonna go searching for my brothers now, have fun with the whole revolution thing without me for a while"
Everyone knows who Dragon is… Minor fodder knew about Sabo at Dressrosa. Yup he never has been in the news
Neither Luffy nor Bartolomeo had heard of Sabo either.
Heck, none of Luffy's crew knew about Ace back at Alabasta.
And how about Fujitora? No one in Dressrosa knew him.
Just because you're a big player, it doesn't mean everybody knows everything about you. No one knew about Dragon's full name or that Kuma was once a Revolutionary for example.
Neither Luffy nor Bartolomeo had heard of Sabo either.
Heck, none of Luffy's crew knew about Ace back at Alabasta.
And how about Fujitora? No one in Dressrosa knew him.
Additionally, when has Luffy ever read the news, that would be like Zoro following directions correctly.

well that is kinda different than your regular hit in the head amnesia!

Just because you're a big player, it doesn't mean everybody knows everything about you.
Just because you're a big player, it doesn't mean the readers of OP know about you. So you, reader, can later read how the Marine did know about a big player you just come to know for the first time. Case probe: Fujitora.
Which is pretty convenient for Oda.
Well I feel Bellamy is going to reveal something from his trip to skypiea to the Strawhats . Probably why Oda needed him to stick around this season.
And I doubt Dragon is the fleet of crows. Why? Because like we see in that previous chapter the crow delivers a newspaper to the revolutionaries and then Sabo asks him (the crow) a question about if he/she can do this anytime. I doubt Sabo wouldn't know Dragon (of all people) has such an ability. I guess it's one of the crew members, and he is probably just having to do this kind of flight in the current circumstances.
" Zoro : Man, That's almost the exact same thing Ace said to us… "
Oda, you better not kill him too!
So what role will bellamy and kyros have, will they be new nakama? Where is bartolomeo?
Would you rather have had him just not be able to show up at the war? Have Dragon forbid him from not only letting his brothers know he was alive, but go save them?
I think there are a dozen different ways Oda could've explained his absence that would have given Sabo's character some semblance of conflict/ambiguity/turmoil. Like he has to choose between a certain important obligation to his cause as a revolutionary and his brother.
What about the 10 years previous to this, then? Why did Sabo never let them know he was alive? That's a bigger issue than the war.
I can see what you're saying. But remember that Ace also went several years without messaging Luffy and only dropped by to say "Hi" by chance because he was an island or so away while chasing BB. There's been a precedent set for the brothers to go without contacting one another for stupidly long stretches of time unless one of them is in immediate danger. From Sabo's PoV, he would have no idea that his brothers thought he died the day he set sail, he sent them a letter saying that they'd see each other again once they'd all become strong pirates more free than anyone else, so he wouldn't have a reason to contact Ace+Luffy to assuage any worries.
TL;DR it's Oda's manga and he can do what it wants but amnesia was the most uninteresting way to go about it.
Man, this chapter almost made me want to cry up along with Luffy and Sabo. This chapter did raised some questions and answered a few questions of my own .
Bellamy won't join. But I guess they'll have a farewell as "friends" before Luffy leaves.
oh sweet a day early

Cover page shown we will never see doflamingos eyes I'll be thankful if someone link me to where oda shows one of doflamingos eyes
( someone said it on spoiler thread that one of his eyes was shown in laws flashback but where ? )

There's the problem right there. Sabo wasn't going to become a pirate anymore.
Heck, had he remembered who he was, do you think he would have stayed with the Revolutionaries instead of fulfilling his promise that he gave to both Luffy and Ace? Koala did bring this up, but only after 10 years of service.
So there's a reason to contact them. To tell them that he wasn't going to follow the same path as them.
Also, Sabo had 3 years to contact Ace when he started his pirate life. Ace did it in the same year Luffy started his, and he tried to leave a message in Drum too.
TL;DR it's Oda's manga and he can do what it wants but amnesia was the most uninteresting way to go about it.
It was the most consistent way.
Nice to see that the explanation why Sabo did not come to save Ace in form of amnesia comes in an arc in which the biggest tragedy was people having been turned into toys and forgotten by their family members.
My initial impression on the chapter was that the amnesia felt like a necessary cop out. This just changed my mind completely.
Fujitora knew Sabo but just not the fact that he is Luffy's brother. Same goes for Bartolomeo and the crewmates. If they never heared the story about Sabo and Ace how could they know that he is the brother of Luffy…
Dofla revealed his identity in the broadcast.
Zoro or Franky did say they never heard of another brother.

nice chapter, figured a break was coming bc it had been a while

also this. Nice wording with the bard cage in the flashback panel too
I was most excited for seeing Fuijtora's next course of action, but I guess a little backstory for Sabo coupled with an explanation was due. I know people will mostly dislike it and call it bullshit but I thought it was pretty nice. I approved of it. Though the wait for the next chapter where we are bound too something actually excitement (either Fujitora's discision or the swirly hats pirate)is gonna be difficult.. Breaks, man /:
One thing….
Seeing Zoro laughing is weird.
I like it.
Oda should not always come with something out of the blue. You people expect too much. Amnesia was a very nice thing :)
Since, Bellamy wasn't taken by the authorities this could mean he could possibly be the newkama. I actually would welcome the idea.
Anyone know why Dragon's veins were pumped so much? Seemed from using his devil fruit or something.
Oda's art lately has been consistently great. Most of Dressrosa has been. And these past request cover stories are awesome.
Chapter's pretty damn good to me. It's effective, it's emotional, and worth it just for the retelling of Luffy and Sabo's meeting at the Colosseum that got cut first time we saw it. Would've preferred if Sabo also cried a river like Luffy, but apparently he only cried afterwards while talking to Koala.
Talking crows be crazy, I'm really loving the running gag of people punching the poor operator everytime Sabo hangs them up and a hint of Dragon's power at work. Sabo mimicking Luffy when he found out Ace died. Kuma, Ivankov and Inazuma. Terminator eye Franky, and his circuitry messing up again once he starts crying, even after fixing it. Bellamy sleeping with the rest. All little details that, to me, make this chapter probably better than the main content should make up for. But that's part of this manga's charm.
But let's just talk about how disappointing amnesia is as a plot point (it is, indeed); that was such a small part of the overall experience I don't quite care about it?
Not imo.
At first I thought it was great but sometime before Law's flashback and after Zoro did the Phoenix thing on Pica it started to degrade imo on a panel to panel basis and has been like that consistently.
I think we've had great spreads and panels since that point but it's definitely not on par with the what I said and past arcs imo currently.
I'm perfectly content with amnesia and perfectly content with this story happening before we see Fuji's resolve. I discovered my dad when I was about 22 years old, so seeing Luffy so happy to see someone he thought ceased to exist and being so happy really hit home for me. Oh and isn't it kind of nice that an explosion of all things finally caused some serious and lasting damage?
Oda drew the moon 3 times this chapter(or maybe an editor) but it's wrong twice. The previous night in the One Piece world where Usopp and Chopper stayed up all night afraid Doflamingo would attack, the moon was in it's crescent phase, Ch 699. In this chapter the dry next night, the moon is more or less the same in it's first and 3rd appearance. Only on it's second appearance does it look like it's going through it's natural phase.
Anyone notice Franky's crying is ruining his circuits? And look how he places some sort of contact lens/fake pupil to appear more normal.
About those crows. I think it's Moriah. Sabo seems to be a little unfamiliar with the crow ability so I'm guessing Moriah joined the revolutionaries recently. No longer after Kaidou, I bet he set his sights on the World Government and who better to join than the revolutionaries? I figure the crows are a variation of Brick Bat and he's figured out how to talk through his shadows.
Anyone know why Dragon's veins were pumped so much? Seemed from using his devil fruit or something.
It's the typical one piece way of showing rage
Sabo tells the whole story here. Barto hears it.
Yeah and now what? Barto could have heared about Sabo in person before… but not that he is the brother.
Further more Barto seems like someone who gives a damn for everyone bar Luffy. This proves nothing that Bartolomeo never heared about chief in staff Sabo
CPO leaves around 3 when the deal is going down. Final fight and broadcast happens when it's still daytime. How would they have made so much time leaving that it would take them twice as long to return? Wind and waves against them now? Plot convenience?
Amnesia…
An amnesia never mentioned being brought up in this chapter only to justify Sabo not being at Marineford and being magically cured right after it to make sure it will serve no purpose but being an excuse to justify Sabo not being at Marineford. And of all the possibilities, amnesia...
With all the complaints I am giving this manga as of lately, I will avoid commenting any further. Only that this was a new low and that I am willing to believe Oda's evil and much less competent twin imprisoned him after the timeskip and is pretending to be him. I call him Usoda.
Didn't expect to get a chapter on Wednesday… As mentioned by many, Sabo's amnesia is cliche but do the work perfectly fine. I mean, If he hadn't lost his memories and was just far away from Marine Ford - we would have been questioning why he didn't returned as soon as the news came out.
So Luffy has his own Vivre Card now?
@Kishido The Revos were/are an institution based on secrecy, the only reason as to why they are getting in spotlight at the moment is because the Reviere is this year. Sabo seemed to have become know to the World after Ace's death.
Anyone know why Dragon's veins were pumped so much? Seemed from using his devil fruit or something.
Or he could just be pissed that a person fired a Bazooka at a child with the intention to kill…............That's a viable explanation too.
My fav part of this chapter was a little hint into Dragon's character and his similarity to Luffy and Garp; when the guy was confirming that Dragon was Luffy's father, he just nonchalanty replies "Oh. Yeah." No sh*ts give...........I love that!
