I loved the chapter. Especially the part with Kyros really hit me hard
I really don't know why people are complaining, Oda always does this after a major arc

As long as this arc is over…
A more exact phrasing would probably be that it feels directionless because of the dragging to me and I'm really scared about the quality of the next arc because of it. I want it to finally be a really great arc, but after 200 chapters of rather flawed and clunky storytelling I'm not sure One Piece can deliver a purely great arc anymore. I'm not also saying this is not Oda's style - this is very much a One Piece arc end, I just think it's very boring and makes me feel nothing but happiness that the arc's finally over. All of the big arcs which are often also criticized for pacing ended on a very satisfactory note to me. Skypiea, Alabasta, Enies Lobby had great finales and they didn't have chapter-long speeches about how awesome the main character is in an attempt to give it some more weight.
Nope just seems like you wanted something "flashy" to happen compare to characters showing their humanity .
Also Luffy is the center focus in this series . Get over it .
ONE WORD!!! EPIC!! It's finally over!! Maybe we can finally get back to the mis-adventures of the swirly hats now!! This arc has been severally lacking in Chopper cuteness!!!

Totally with you on this.
To be fair, I think Dressrosa (I just wrote Alabasta and corrected it, but I would like to point it out) was the best arc post time-skip and still it felt like that. Before it started, after FI and PH, I was feeling exactly like that "can OP get back on track again? Or Oda just exhausted his ideas and from now on he will keep repeating his old things and I will just have to accept it grew old and will not work on me anymore?". Dressrosa started as a promise of change and I was loving everything about it up to some point, but then it all happened. I LOVE Doflamingo with passion and I love his family, but even so I couldn't wait for them to just fall and this could be over with so we can get to the next arc and I keep hoping things will get better while doubting so even more than before.

I will criticize something I think is poorly done. I don't think a main character who is constantly worshipped is interesting or fun. I don't care if Luffy's the "center focus" - this is the same issue that Bleach and Naruto had - the side cast slowly became irrelevant. I don't want that to happen. I don't think five chapters of the same lines with the same meaning is "showing humanity". I'm the first damn person to value humanity in a story, in fact, it's probably what I value most in a story, but I only value it if it is not repetitive and sows interesting things about the characters This has had the most generic speeches and reactions you can have. Rebecca crying for chapters upon chapters is not showing humanity, it's really bad character writing.

As negative as I've been with the last chapters I still do like Dressrosa as a whole. It has quite a few problems, but like I've said before, it's had a lot of great things, too - Like you said for example, I also think Doflamingo is a really great character.
So many pissbabies whining about this chapter.
Cry s'MOH

Well, cheer up. If we're lucky she might just faint from all that dehydration and that's the last we'll hear of her
On a more serious note, I did expect this kind of chapter and it was well worth taking time to show the information of their liberation sinking in Dressrosa's people. I even find it relevant that most characters remain speechless after what happened.
So I won't call the chapter bad per se, however I still agree that there could have been more content besides that. Maybe we could have lived with a couple less panels of random cheering crowds, or skipped some of the flashback panels, or without being shown - again - the full gallery of the allied gladiators. And instead give some screen time to Sabo & Burghess, or delve deeper into the reaction of another group beside the Dressrosa people. The marines for example - what are they even supposed to do next? This is bound to create some debate within their ranks and I would be interested in seeing that. Or the Revs.
I see more tears in this thread than in the chapter.
Next Chapter: Mansherry's teardelions fall on Doflamingo.

100% THIS! Oh Oda!
I'm going to drop One Piece for a year (or around that time, since an arc is usually that long?) if Doflamingo stands up again - maybe I'll end up enjoying the next arc more then, looking at the deepening pacing problems.

The problem with showing Sabo & Burghess is that it takes away some of the meaning of the chapter .
I can understand why some people want to see them but i can also understand why Oda wanted the chapter this way.

People say OP has pacing problems every arc .
I thank god that these people have no effect on the manga pacing.
The final panel saying that a collapsing country is not necessarily an unhappy one was really emotional, even if the chapter was whatever i really liked that last page. Now i just wonder what will happen to Dofla and the secret of Mariejoa that he knows
Of course they do, I just think this is extra annoying because we've gotten 3 draggy arcs in a row. At least Alabasta and Skypiea had Jaya as a cool-off arc between, there was Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum between East Blue and Alabasta. The Post-Water 7 arc was a nice cooldown between Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark. I've rarely seen anyone complain about the pace in the arcs of the Whitebeard War saga. It's really bad Post-TS.
I think Doflamingo might have a deformation on his left eye.
He seems to be a beautiful and flamboyant character, however his eye would put him off. So the glasses cover that.
Even though he's a "God" in his eyes, he has an imperfect body. Fans hyped up the eyes, Oda seriously has something about them planned as he is clearly avoiding showing them and emphasizing the glasses breaking.

You must be joking the were a good amount of people complaining during the war arc .
About how nothing happen in the chapters , or how short they were , how the fight were etc etc.
I guess this is one you just have to take your time with to get the real feel of. Which is fine, but there are tons of islands left in the series… you just can't be in a hurry for him to get to the one piece, lol
At least no break next week

I saw very little of that with the Whitebeard War arcs. I remember complaints about cramped panels, but not the pacing of the arcs itself. There was a twist or big action stuff in almost every chapter in those arcs. The big complaints were with the anime. If anything some lone chapters stood out like the Okama hell or the Oars one.
Mingo side view looks like Zoro. And Issho showed his class. He's the only one that didn't fall down, knew the moment Birdcage was out.
Probably because he was doing the least lol. As always

Yet when we get chapters that are slow paced and breather , you still bitch about them . Ignorant is a bliss here .
@uniaka:
Either Doflamingo has holes instead of eyes or it's a shadow thing. I expected at least to reveal the eyes of DD, oh well maybe next week.
Posted this in the spoiler thread too but couldn't resist lol

Battle junkie confirmed lol .
Not every chapter is going to feature big plot twist or action scenes . This is basic storytelling 101 .

Yes and vagina and boob action to you = good writing , right ? Lol

Eitherway I am definitely convince that you are bitching for the sake of bitching .

Well, his senses should be sharper than anyone else's on the island, considering what we've seen before.

Missing the point. It's not about lone breather chapters. It's about the general structure of the arcs. It eventually gets tiring if there is not lighter arc between all the heavy big ones.
Personally I wasn't satisfied with this chapter, despite knowing that it's completely in line with Oda's storytelling, but that may be because it's not over - the reactions aren't, I mean. The person everyone wants closure for wasn't shown reacting. Law was only shown switching Luffy back and I think passing out (he looks like he's on the ground in the last shot with Viola/Rebecca), and after his flashback ripped out hearts out, he's who the audience had the most connection with. Once we see him react, things will be good.

I think the better question is if oda is going to do those smaller lighter arcs anymore .
Since the whole structure of the NW is different compare to before .
Wano might be that chance since it not tie to anything .
I guess whatever is left of Dressrosa is going to get wrecked by Burgess and Sabo :)
Even though we've had chapters like this where the people cry it still ceases to hit me in the feels. Now everyone can breathe a huge sigh of relief just like Luffy as all that air left his body after gear fourth haha. New arc imminent!

I don't fucking want a battle every chapter. I want a well-written story. I've been very kind on the pacing of Dressrosa up to the finale of this arc because despite being about 50 chapters, both Fishman Island and Punk Hazard were both, too slow and too quick. They focused on stuff they shouldn't have for too long and on stuff they should have too short. So I was pleased with the cool down of the pace for a while, but at this point it's just repetitive dragging, it's not for the benefit of the story anymore. I give you some of the point about the cast though. Too bad this chapter only had basically the reactions of all of my least favorite ones. I dislike Kyros because he ruined Rebecca's character arc. I dislike Rebecca because she had no meaning other than to be constantly rescued. I dislike Gyatz and Riku because I'm sick of the speeches meaning the same thing so many chapters straight.
Also, no, I don't think Rebecca needs to "vagina and boob action" (UGH.). I think she needs a character outside of her father and crying for help. I think if there is a struggle set up for her, good writing kind of means you stay consistent to what you've set up. If you don't wanna do that in your story, then at least explain why she is suddenly so helpless, when she's shown to be capable in her own right with her own skillset. Why doesn't she get to fight for herself and her wishes and dreams, when that is such a big part of the story that anything is possible if you keep trying. That anyone can reach their dreams? What was the point of her saying she doesn't want to be protected anymore?

Just go ahead and accuse him of being "Darth-like!" already. Maybe pull out the tried and true encouragement of him to drop the series? You know you want to. Please, do continue to ignore his actual point about pacing of events. And don't think too hard about labeling a guy who voicing disapproval with Dressrosa a "battle whore" because that totally makes sense considering how little of the arc considered of action. It was practially action free!
And-
@Doffy:
Yes and vagina and boob action to you = good writing , right ? Lol
…what the hell did I miss here?
Switching the sarcasm off for now: Could we please turn it down with the calling people whiny crying bitches and all that? Especially when they're actually trying to analyze and articulate gripes with the chapter beyond "THIS SUX NOTHING HAPPEND"?! Seriously guys.
As for me, I thought the chapter was perfectly serviceable. It was a bit much to have the subtext made text like that (The cage is gone! Symbolizing the end of Doffys oppresion and stuff!) but when its Dressrosa Tubiflex doing it, it kinda works. Gatz and his announce-or-die shtick has been pretty great. Really, this chapter was pretty much exactly as I epected it, based on Odas track record.
"Oda has done it before! Its a trend!" doesn't automatically equal this chapter being exempt from criticism however, and I do think this is less interesting than the Alabasta or Skypea post villain-KO chapters. This chapter simply isn't as visually interesting as seeing the simultaneous crash landings of Croc and Luffy or the zoom out to rain above Alabasta, and doesn't really have anything as Iconic as Luffys silhouette in the sky.
Well, it has Rebecca crying a river on Luffys face, which is memorably silly looking.
I kind of feel like I might be a little bit extreme, but really it all boils down to that it's the end of a One Piece arc, but it's like the end of every One Piece arc ever. Not something special and well, I expected more from Doflamingo's arc. This really has been built up for so long and very specifically, rather than the more vague Fishman Island.

I hate reading posts like this, if you don't like the story don't read it, you can be upset about it that's fine, like trashing a bad book, but once, not EVERY FUCCKING WEEK.
Honestly it makes me wanna stop reading chapter discussions.
What is sad is that yput.dont see that dofla is not over yet. Hes like frieza to oda.this final blow was only to shut down the cage
To everyone that hated this chapter or any other chapter where "nothing happened", I invite you to re-read the whole arc now that it's (almost) over.
I know it's frustrating to wait one week to read a chapter, and then "nothing happens", and then you have to wait another week. Unfortunately, the chapters are very small and moments like these are inevitable.
But now we can re-read the whole thing in one sitting. Maybe people who disliked the arc will like it better this way.

I really love One Piece. It's one of my favorite series of all time. I even liked last week's chapter and basically most of the action portion of the arc, lol.
Anyway, sorry if it seemed like spam, I'm stopping for now.
Chapter threads are bound to have repeated criticisms, since this arc as a whole has had its turns, ups, downs, and developments. I think everyone felt as if good or bad, this arc was starting to drag….? Or am I wrong?
@LordEnel:

Classy.
What worked: The one part of this chapter that was very well done was Kyros. The call-back to his tin eyes that can't cry and how he's fought for Dressrosa's freedom from oppression and control all these years were well chosen. It reminds me of some of Oda's great past moments where a character just lets everything go and cries like a baby, unabated – like Chopper upon leaving Drum Island and seeing the cherry blossom fireworks, or Robin during her famous "I want to live!" moment. I think this is going to come off as an even better moment when the arc sinks in and fatigue and disappointment wears off. One of the better scenes in the arc, possibly.
What didn't: But everything else is just, welp, Oda commited to these characters so hard and so badly wants me to feel for them but I just don't. Rebecca has done essentially nothing but cry for far too long and has almost no personality. Viola was introduced as passionate but for almost the entire arc has done little but run from place to place whilst being protected or served as Oda's recap device. Riku has been, imo, uninteresting and bland for the whole arc. A generic kind gentle king is all well and good, but not interesting enough to carry such a large burden. Can the man even crack a smile if his life depends on it? Gatz, though I don't dislike him, came out of nowhere with no build up and took too much of a presence in climax. Meanwhile the characters that I care about are doing nothing (Cavendish), pushing the oh-so-contrived feeling Birdcage (Zoro, Franky, Sai, Bart, Kyros) or watching quietly (Law). It's as if there's a complete reversal of what I tend to expect from One Piece in this climax. The less colorful, less built-up characters are at the center stage of attention and tension in the very climax. Meanwhile the great, classically One Piece, emotionally engaging characters (which the arc has plenty of) are relegated almost exclusively to serving Oda's favorite plot device or doing what seems to be nothing at all.
And worst of all, the citizens of Dress Rosa. They are a giant faceless mass that have been bumbling around and running from Bird Cage forever. I can't get emotionally connected to a mass of faceless people just because what happens to them is sad. It doesn't matter how many panels of them looking sad or scared or overjoyed Oda hits me with (I think around 10-12 in this chapter alone?). It won't happen =/ The emotional connection I get to One Piece characters is through getting to know them and spend time with them, learn about their personalities, their history, and follow them through their personal struggles. It can be both on the small and large scale: Senõr Pink or Nico Robin. But it won't happen through simply being told "sad thing happened, now feel sad" and showing more and more panels of sad things happening to people that remain as faceless as before. The citizens of Dress Rosa being made such a huge emotional anchor was a massive mistake to me.
The next chapter is probably the one that will work, because it'll contain Law's reaction. He's the character that's both colorful and interesting and had a great deal of attention and love devoted to writing his emotionally engaging story full of characters just as colorful and interesting. But this one just couldn't do it for me. It's not because anything about it was wrong per se. It's natural to have exactly this happen as Doflamingo is defeated. It makes sense in-universe. It's what logically follows the story as written. But the characters focused on simply are not engaging. Without engaging characters, a character-driven story just isn't much to write home about. They exist in this arc, but they aren't these characters.
This will be my reaction soon…
!
!
It will be really hardcore for me… Even if I'm of course really hyped to see Sanji and Co (While still thinking nothing good of it...)
I can't even imagine how Bartolomeo will react at the goodbye
But this brings me to 2 questions about Bartolomeo
1. What is in the suitcase? I still think it is filled with everything about the SHs... You know just a fanbox... Still curious
2. Will Bartolomeo be left behind without even meeting the other SHs... He hasn't even seen Franky... And I was so curious about meeting the others as well... His reaction to Nami and especially Sanji cuz of his bounty picture would be funny to see
Oda sure likes to stretch this arc same way luffy stretches his rubber body.
I would not mind much, but half of the main characters are gone for too long. He could at least show something about them, a cover( related to the story).
The reactions of people around Dressrosa could be done in less then half a chapter, Rebecca's tears could just be off panel since we saw her tears more then enough.
It's strange cause he made important part of this arc off panel, but wasted panel time with ' not very important things'.
Next chapter should be about Fujitora, Burgess, Sabo ,CpO(if they are still here) and their actions agains't Doflamingo. Should be good.
MangaStream a.k.a. Non-panda-poop version out

You say stuff like Gantz and Riku speeches had same meaning but to me they serve two different purposes
Riku speech was about getting the Dressrosa people to help each other out while giving them a update.
Gantz speech was about make luffy a hero and saying he going to kick don ass while giving them a update .
I enjoy both for different reasons guess that is why i did not have a problem with them.
They are both speeches of encouragement to the masses, similar in that sense to me.
Before anything else happens I hope that next episode concentrates on what the hell is happening with Burgess, Sabo & Koala. Pretty sure that fight wasn't looking anything like it finished.
New arc imminent!
He's been waiting patiently enough, soon he shall return!
*the last comment box made me think of Drum Island after Blackbeard sacked the island and Wapol abandoned it. A country without a monarchy = happy; a country of destruction = happy
The action junkies don't care about storytelling they want their stunts fix every week otherwise it's filler.
One Piece has a lot of great fights but in reality the reason why it is universally considered the best shounen is because Oda takes his time and fleshes out the world and characters.
Quick rant:
I really must question the sensibilities of people who want One Piece to pick up the pace so much, Doflamingo is one of the most hyped and long-standing villains in the series, if he had been fodderized by Law/Luffy ~20 chapters ago would that have really been preferable? Is one of the most direct philosophic contrasts to Luffy and his crew since way back in Jaya supposed to be handled so easily? Really, if Doflamingo wasn't strong as heck in order to support his notions of what the New Age will be (his own!), I would be majorly disappointed.
Yet, for the last few months every chapter thread has been complaint after complaint about Dressrosa being slow–I would argue that while Dressrosa is taking a long time, longer than any single arc before it, that the "slow pace" is for the sake of being thorough; indeed, Dressrosa will be appreciated for years to come among the community because Oda began to give the payoffs to his epic manga over time, rather than a quick and cheap conclusion that is merely covering the key plot points and some fun action sequences. I must then beg the questions: "What makes the key plot points so interesting? Why do people want to know so badly? Why do people want a lot of really explosive action panels?" The answer is of course that Oda has developed over time a series that is interesting because it is does not do things cheaply and quickly.
In essence, I really must emphasize to some of the fans here that having patience will make this series a lot more palatable; if it is still pissing you off that One Piece is going so "slowly", maybe you just need a break and let half an arc go by or even longer...
@superv:
she doesn't have a personality. her only personality traits are that she loves her family and her savior Luffy, and that isn't the reason why people hate her either.
they hate her because she started as a strong female figure that could've broke the shounen tropes but ended up being another damsel in distress, with her acting out of character when she ran away from diamante.
i was actually one of the poeple who defended her when she did that, hoping that we may see her kick ass again. but no, nothing happens but more crying. her character started very well but fell down pretty quickly, and she wasn't even given a reason to explain why she ran off or atleast anything that could make us sympathize with her.
I definitely agree with you on this. When Rebecca first appeared, I was excited for a warrior lady who's willing to actually get hit to finally be in One Piece, but her character just went down the drain, and the whole thing was very disappointing for me.
The thing is, there've been so many comments on here that are like "lol i hope Rebecca dies" or "OMG SHE'S SO ANNOYING" and just… People blame Rebecca as an individual, people blame her as a character, instead of how she was written, and then all the misogynistic comments on here make for an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere if you're a girl, and you get scared to even post...
Oh, I have to say something about the chapter, don't I? Uhhh... I liked it! Not the best, but not the worst, either.
