One Piece and Eiichiro Oda entered in Guinness World Records as "The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author with 320,866,000 copies printed and circulated from December 1997 to December 2014".

Now the question is how high will it become by the end of the series. That's about 320 million in 17 years, and we still have a ways to go. Unless its popularity seriously diminishes over that time, we could probably expect another few 100 million?
Question for those who would know the answer, how is the popularity of the series holding up? I know there are forums sick of the current arc, and I've read opinions that compare New World lower than pre-time skip, but that doesn't give an idea of overall opinion of general public.

Apparently the last part of the series is going to completely dwarf marineford. I think Marineford boosted One Pieces popularity, so I would assume it would go through the roof if all is done nicely.

Usually I would say something like "make sure you keep yourself grounded and focus on the manga's quality, now that your nearest rival has stopped his manga there's no one to compete with so maybe your own manga will suffer, healthy competition keeps one on their toes and makes them better"

If you're talking of only manga I believe Golgo 13 has more than Dragon Ball. Not only Golgo 13 has 200 Million copies just in Japan(almost 50 Million more than Dragon ball) it was announced here that it has 280 Million copies in circulation in the world, while Dragon Ball only has 230 Million.

One Piece is published in all this regions as far as I know. However, the record involves only the japanese Tankobons. Last December, when One Piece vol 76 was released to which this guinness record refers, it was revealed around the Jump Festa in a newspaper article, that One Piece already reached 380 millionen in circulation worldwide (320 million in Japan and 60 million overseas).
Well-deserved, most expected and impossible to imagine.
