Chapter 756: The 4th level

luffy will save rebecca :D

I think he might personaly defeat one of them. THe fact that the conflcts seems to be happenig at the same does indeed suggest that one of them might be dealt with by other forces.
Just my personal opinion though.
He's definitely gonna defeat them both. He has already promised to defeat Big Mom and Kaidou has gotten so much hype that being beaten by someone else would be just bad storytelling.
Besides, how are we gonna get Moria back in the story if not as an ally against Kaidou?

Seriously, are half of you even One Piece fans?
I'll be the first one to admit that I've let my studies get the better of me in regards to posting on these forums, but I have some break now and need to bring up something that's been bothering me for months.
Why are people like Darth even on this forum? All I've seen is massive hate from tons of people on the last 10 or so chapters. I've very much enjoyed most of the last few chapters, especially Franky's moments in the last one. Nothing has drastically changed in the One Piece format. Nothing new to weekly reading at least.
And no, before this obvious retort comes up, I don't think One Piece is perfect. I don't think One Piece is flawless. I don't think One Piece is above construtive or harsh criticism. I think it IS above the constant attacking on every little detail of these past chapters.
But hey, I remember a time when One Piece fans would say GOOD things about One Piece. Jesus christ.
To be honest, if everybody agreed on everything, it would get boring. Everyone does at times post about things they like, but the bulk of the discussion when it comes to current material will be disagreements on what people like. I personally enjoy posters like Darth, because they give out reasons they don't like certain things in a reasonable way, which while subjective enough so spike good debates. I came to this forum and joined because it has a nice balance of talking about what is good and what they don't like. This forum also touches on actual points of the chapter compared to other forums I've been to.
Not bad.
Altough I personaly find it hillarious that one week I say chapter was okay, I get called on A) Liking it B) Hating everything.
Tough crowd I got here.
I think there are people who are getting a little to heated with certain topics, kind of how I did with that one post. It comes with the territory of when posting that people will call someone who says lots of negative stuff in a hater, no matter how stupid it might sound. It seems like it's more people are just tired of the same arguments, so they assume you like nothing.
Actually, I agree with a number of things with you, but some of the stuff is less severe to me, or overall, I still don't mind the stuff.
I agree with you that Fujitora doesn't seem as impressive when looking how the other Admirals were introduced, and that he has yet to do anything. Also the fact that his actions are questionable. I like him though at the moment and I'm waiting for a full opinion on him.
I agree that the way the arc has been split up has it's positives and negatives, and that the pacing could be a bit better in spots. I also agree that there are some things that could've been executed better (the Marines in general, the coliseum finals, Some of the fights, and the running around). Overall though, there's way to much I like compared to the few details I think are questionable.
BTW, when can I expect the Whitebeard stuff on the character thread:ninja:
I should point out that the World Government was perfectly content to execute Moria, just for the reason of being "too weak to be a Shichibukai". They could have just kicked him out. The only reason he was saved is due to Absalom's interference.
So yeah, I definitely see the WG/Akainu being people who would execute the Yonkou in a heartbeat if they ever got their hands on them.
Agreed. I see that Doflamingo, despite his massive connections, will get more punished than crocodile did, mainly because of how Akainu does things. We might see friction between the Marines and the WG.
-
Ah that was the excuse he gave, but you can tell from his grin.. he did it for fun … this is the same guy that didn't run away when an admiral showed up on SA because he was curious (didn't he say something like how often can one see an Admiral in action?) then he goes and attacks that same Admiral.
Apoo could have just ran for it, Kizaru's attention was on Urogue and Hawkins, but Apoo decided to go ahead and attack. This is a guy that likes a good fight for the sake of just fighting
Oh. I tend to take things literally and don't often understand subtle hints, sarcasm, and body language so I didn't pick up on that.

I don't know about that. Even if Sakazuki is who he is, I always got the vibe that he was subservient to the Gorosei. I always felt that, due to his stance as Absolute Justice, that he'd follow whatever they said.
I don't really know how Doffy will be handled. I'm pretty anxious to see what his circumstances will be once he's beaten.

Well, that was when he was only an Admiral, as Fleet Admiral, he may be more aggressive with stuff, but that is to be seen. I am very interested in what happens after this arc, as that's really the thing to look forward to in this arc. The fights will be good but the aftermath is going to be big, at this point maybe as big as Whitebeards death, at least in the account of all the reactions we'll see from the event.
-
Thanks for answering …. though don't think I didn't notice the vagueness there.
C'mon mister! You can't just say "My second most favorite character in the entire manga... is a pirate. " then not say who it is!
whispering from the background "Uh, Katzztar… he just did."Aww… c'mon Darth! ... pretty please, I'll ask nicely
"Can you please tell me who your 2nd most favorite character -who so happens to be a pirate- is?"Mr. 2. I love Bentham. And Crocodile made it to the fourth place, right after Magellan.
Oh, Impel Down, another really enjoyable arc. It has great antagonist. And so does Alabasta, for that matter.

To be honest, I'd always thought the opposite, precisesly because of how extreme his stance on justice is.
Akainu was always more extreme, and going beyond what his duty to Gorosei was. They want balance, he wants the extermination. They show regret for ordering destruction of Ohara, he shows no remorse for executing civilians.
Plus, he was shown to be extremly skilled manipulator. So he might work his way to create order that Gorosei give him, by skillfuly manipulating the situation.

Oh yeah good point. If that's the case he may very well execute Doffy himself, despite the Gorosei or whoever telling him to back off since he's a CD.
Of course that's all speculation.

Don't look towards me when it comes to those, I was wrong on every single account when it comes to Dressrosa predictions.
That prediction comes mostly from my hopes: I want Sakazuki's HQ be different from Sengoku's HQ not only in equipment and personal, but also in philosophy.

Well they used to get casual fridays at Sengoku HQ.
Not on Sakazuki's watch, though.

I'll admit, he may be a cold hearted bastard, but damnit can he dress.

Don't forget his environmental side. Then again, he might hate himself because of the Magma powers. When using it to destroy people, he accidently leaves a huge carbon footprint every single time. He hates himself for the 10 day fight, because he caused so much carbon dioxide into the air, which facilitated the change in the island, as well as the sea on fire. It wasn't because of CC, it was Akainu's power, and because of the misuse of Magma power, Global Warming reached heights people couldn't imagine, causing all these crazy things to the world we have now. That's Oda's 5th level secret, this is what global warming will truly cause, and that's the void century, caused by global warming. The reason the WG is hiding it is because they don't want limits placed on such power.
-
He also has some great tattoos.
Honestly, design on all Admirals is really, really great. And symbolic, which is nice as well.
-
He also has some great tattoos.
Hmm, tribal's been overdone.
I wouldn't say that to Sakazuki's face though.
-
Ah… Killer is just a smart guy. Remember his epithet is "Massacre Soldier", so hee's just as likely to be a mass murderer with Kidd.
You're probably right in this case since Killer is in Kidd's crew. But an epithet's definitely not a testimony to a pirate's cruelty.
-
Tribal on real humans looks shit almost every time, but it can work with fictional characters. I would think the sakura petals are the main focus of his tat, and while it's reminiscent of yakuza ones, it would look better if it was even more similar to those instead of "easy" to draw tribals.
-
You're probably right in this case since Killer is in Kidd's crew. But an epithet's definitely not a testimony to a pirate's cruelty.
But in the case of both the Strawhats and the Worst Generation, the epithets so far has matched the person very well. Even Robin's "Devil Child" fits in a way, as she was seen as a dangerous child by the WG due to her knowledge of the ponyglyphs + the kids on Ohara did see her as a monster due to her powers, so "Devil Child" does fit Robin.
Most of the Worst Gen fit their epithets
Jewelry really is a "Big Eater".
Apoo's power makes "Roar of the Sea" fitting.
It wasn't appreant at first but Law's cruelty in sending 100 hearts of living pirates to the get the Shichi spot does fit "Surgeon of Death" more than just his power.
And so on, ect.
So I feel safe thinking "Massacre Soldier" fits Killer …. besides the fact he's known only as "Killer" -
@Bartholemew:
So what do you guys think Sugar will do now? Or asked differently, whom or the non-fodder characters will she encounter and will she manage to turn them into toys?
I expect her to face Usopp again somehow so Usopp "redeems" himself and actually wins a fight properly or something of that sort
-
Mr. 2. I love Bentham. And Crocodile made it to the fourth place, right after Magellan.
Wow, I know everyone but me loves Mr 2, but I'm somehow disappointed he's your second favourite character :p

Do you just not care for him, or do you actively hate him? I don't mind either way, because it's your opinion, but just wondering. Though you may need to be careful, because depending on how much people love him, you may incur wrath from other people.

I just don't love him as much as everyone else does.
He's so evil in Alabasta, and his transformation into an ally is so ridiculous (which was the point, right? It was a joke at the end of Alabasta) that I cannot appreciate his sacrifices in Impel Down so much as to put him above many other characters.
He's funny, he's a good character, but he's not that great.

I have to completely and utterly….agree with all of this.
-
On Luffy's bounty poster still is used the picture with Usopp in the background, right?
Maybe this actually could come into play here. Assuming that Luffy would get toyified and someone, maybe Usopp, stumbles upon a bounty poster, than he could deduce that this Luffy person actually was/is his captain.
-
Yes, the newspaper may have anew pic but the bounty posters are still the same ones so its still the goofy Luffy with back of Usopp's head behind him.
-
With the amount of time this arc has already taken, I can't see anybody else being toyified (at least not any major characters).
It would just be unnecessary.

Might be because I do like my heroic sacrifices when they are not utterly stupid and contrived (looking at you, Ace), but I do honestly enjoy him very much.
While I do agree that his transfomartion from villain to hero and ally is… a little bit jarring, but... well. I simply find him enjoyable enough that I don't care that much.
I've always been of opinion that a character is a sum of pros and cons, and Benthams pros outweight cons in my opinion.

Oda taking course that would utterly terrible for pace?
Nah, that would never happen :ninja:
-
I'm really hoping the flasback start in the next 10 chapters. It feels like the impending flashback is causing the plot to stall. Honestly, none of the fights will really start unless the flashback is told.
-
It's just that Sugar has such an awesome DF and the way it was dealt with until now feels unsatisfying to me.
I think Sugar turning Luffy into a toy is a good way to turn the tables a little bit so that a little bit suspense is added.
However, I agree with you that it shouldn't be dragged out too much. Maybe like 5 or so chapters until the situation is handled after the toyification.
Well, guess I'm a little ecstatic about Sugar. Well, Rob, I'll definitely wait how the next few months will turn out to see whether and if so which place Sugar will get on my list.

I've never heard such a cynical statement from you before:ninja:

Feeling great actually. But seriously though: Oda already sacrificed pace for story. What makes you think he won't do so again?

Do you mean in terms of rushing the resolution of Operation SOP?
-
Sugar will toyify Don Flamingo, rescue him and then plan for their vengeance.

How is she going to remember that? Nah, I'm sure she would be clever enough to write herself a note to make it work.
-

No, I mean in terms of the entire arc.
Come on. There was never situation where Oda was still placing people into places more then fifty chapters in, in the arc that took place on one Island.
Nor did he ever ended plots so abruptly. The pace is off.
-

Agree and disagree.
I think the real issue is we're so used to having him spread characters over multiple little arcs (and so is he) that having so many characters on one island has thrown him as an author, and us as readers for a real loop.
Since the Baroque Works Saga is the clearest parallel to this arc.
-
Whiskey Peak: Introduced us to Baroque works, got us through Mr.5's pair (Meaning there were only 5 couples stronger than their couple (including Croc/Robin), so we knew there weren't too many more… villains.)
-
Little Garden: Got a fun adventure while dealing with Mr. 3's pair, now we knew there are only 4 couples (or 3 1/2 whatever xD).
-
Drum: We took a complete break from the arc and got a little more time with Vivi, set up her values a bit more.
-
Alabasta: The final big players have already been introduced and there are a minimum number of people to deal with, other characters like Kohza are more background characters setting the scene.
Oda tried to do this (in my often scatterbrained opinion) but missed his mark by trying to fit too many parts into Dressrosa.
-
Punk Hazard: Introduces us to the Donquixote family and their operations. Unfortunately given a character that's presented to be one of the top dogs, making it look like our "Vivi" (Traffy) of the arc is now just all too powerful.
-
Dressrosa: Instead of breaking the cast up into chunks for us like he did with Alabasta, Oda makes pretty much 3 moving plots that each are meant to do what the others did. Trafalgar's group/Sanji is the "Little Garden" meeting more key players, the Coliseum is our "Drum Arc" meant to be a break from the main plot, and then everything after that is our Alabasta. Problem is, instead of serving this to us in consistent well paced chunks, we've instead gotten the scattered maybe 10 panels of each group per chapter that makes no sense. Also, he now has to cram almost the whole Donquixote Family into these scattered plots, making them just feel like wall decorations half the time. Lao G is doing... what?
Combine that with the fact Oda doesn't seem willing to let the Dwarves/Coliseum competitors sit in the background like he should and we end up with an arc that while fun and entertaining at times, certainly feels slow and scattered.
-
-
It's just… too much running.
-
Luffy started running when he kidnapped Helmep, it's his thing now Nothing new.
I mean, I understand that you don't like the running sequences of One Piece, but I think Oda is addicted to drawing people running and will never stop.
Unless he finds a new addiction.
!

I think the scattered plots actually work pretty well for the first section of this arc. The Colosseum section introduces a bunch of major characters in a mostly lighthearted fashion, ending with Sabo's return. The Green Bit portion builds up the flashback story in the meantime. A bunch of Strawhats meet Violet, Kyros and the dwarfs and explain what's going on in Dressrosa. The Sunny group get a fight and then flee with Sanji only to encounter Big Mum's agents. It seems to me it reads pretty smoothly in bulk.
It's only in this later part of the arc that I'm concerned - it feels like we're jumping around between people and seeing the same thing over and over while we're doing it. Plus the flashbacks were a little too rushed. And the thing with Sugar.
Concerning Lao G, we've seen him hilariously put down dwarfs (putting his glasses on first), strike silly G poses and berate Trebol for failing to guard Sugar. So, still better than Ohm …

So Luffy can defeat 2 yonkous but isn't able to defeat Doula Mongo by himself and needs Law to do the job?? how come we fucked up power scaling so bad??

I'm referring to those saying Luffy has to defeat both Big Mom and Kaido.
They are going to be sorely disappointed when it takes Luffy+multiple worst gen pirates to take them out.
-
Luffy will become stronger as time passes, anyways. But yeah, I'm of the opinion that he shouldn't need any help to finish off Doffy, he's his first big challenge after his two years of training, I want to see his limits and him struggling against Mingo.
-
Ever since Sabo ended the tournament, the arc has gone slo-mo. It seemed like it was picking up steam and now we went from Sabo v Burgess, Law captured by Dofla to 5 panels of each group running and having nothing big really advanced. The first half of this arc is an "A" the second half (post coliseum) is a "C-". Let's put an end to Sugar for good, get the flashback of Law/Dofla, cue Zoro beating Pica, Luffy beating Dofla, Sabo v Fuji resolution.

You also have the dwarf princess, Cavendish (hakuba), the rest of the colliseum fighters, doflamingos remaining family, diamante/Rebecca situation, JESUS BURGESS , and a bunch of other sub plots that need to be fleshed out. Damn oda you really crammed this arc

You make it sound like Luffy won't be struggling if he has help. Don't underestimate Doffy. If it ends up being Luffy+Law vs Doffy, I still see them all going all out.
-

I agree.
After a full two years I would like to see Luffy take Doffy down alone, Luffy is long overdue a main fight against an equal and Doffy fits the bill nicely as I don't think the majority of Vice Admirals will be able to stop him and he isn't ready to face an admiral yet.
Doesn't mean I am going to get it of course.
I also want to see a main fight for Zoro, I just don't think Pica is really up to it. The only reason Pica is still standing is due to being able to move around through the stone using his fruit. I just don't think Pica has the juice to be able to take Zoro out and its just a matter of time.
Whereas Franky vs Senor Pink is shaping up to be a great fight and of course the winner will get the groupies at the end. The rest of the fights are pretty meh really.
