I think it was kind of an obvious trick. People in that kingdom didn't had far-away relations like the case in every other Kingdom. And the Riku family in order to satisfy the opinion of the people did an obvious move like that and everyone was or came to aware in the end.
By the way when i saw Scarlett for the first in that bottom panel. I called… Oda, it's Nami!
The pace of this chapter was to fast for my liking! An OK chapter that could be Legendary would it be paced better. Let's see what happens next.
It seems like Oda wants to keep the 5-6 volumes per arc pace to be able to finish the story at a timely manner, or maybe he has other reason for that. I wanted an Alabasta-Skypiea-Water 7 Arc length, 10-12 volumes, for this arc, it would be so great. I believe that Thriller Bark, suffered a little bit because of that too(It was a Great Arc, don't get me wrong, but I would give it a Very Good + instead of the Excellency of the others).

I'm not totally happy, but I'm not totally angry. This is anticlimactic, rushed and underdeveloped. But it's also creative, unexpected and well planned.
So many mixed feelings. . .
Surprisingly, the flashback, even though too short, ended up being affecting and touching. (I also wanna know who's that fifth person on the panel where Rebecca's born. . .).
Franky being beaten to a pulp was the obvious resolution, but that 90% of it was off-paneled, not cool. The Colosseum final fight being 90% off-paneled, not cool. ALL OF USOPP's HEROIC STRUGGLE being 100% off-paneled, TOTALLY not cool at fucking all. (I don't care that he lost, it's pretty good in fact and keeps the Dofla family threat levels intact, but SHOW IT!). But still, I can't be angry at this chapter cause it was affecting, touching, even. . .cute? and, of course, funny and totally One Piece-y in its conclusion.
Still, if this is how things are gonna be from now on, with tons and tons of stuff being off-paneled or heavily cut even in such incredibly important moments, then I'm afraid this manga won't reach the Skypiea or Alabasta peaks anymore. Its not sunk to levels of terribleness or anything like that, but when you take away the entertainment part of the story and just leave the, well, "story", it becomes much less engaging. I hope the climax od the arc, at least, has some meat to it.

I actually laughed out loud at the last page.
But to be honest, I kind of wanted Usopp to win a legitimate victory over a decent foe. As funny as Usopp can be I do like it when he uses his actual combat skills to overcome someone.
But I guess the battles are only just starting, hopefully he can recover and still have a good battle with one of the main villains.

Well Doffy knew about Scarlett and Rebecca. He even said it himself that he send someone to get those two. My guessing is that Doffy announced that Rebecca is Rikus granddaughter when he had her captured and made her a gladiator in the colosseum to torture her/keep the hate against the former royal family up and Doffy himself favored

Since power levels were always weird in OP the only possible way that argument would work is if it happened in the persons which their power mattered. Like the persons carry an organization, crew, kingdom. In this case Luffy, Zoro, Sabo, Trebol, Doffy.
These lower chains of characters are best dealt with this way. I don't wanna have a scene in which there is Usopp Vs Sugar, battle for the Success of SOP Strategy. In my point of view, that's lame.

Scarlet was kind of a bitch huh. I mean Vivi at age 3or 4 had more Wisdom than her and that just paints her in a negative light especially if you consider that it doesn't seem like they were raised to be so inconsiderate and mean.
I really like and appreciate that the murder isn't just glossed over it really does haunt Kyros and I love that. Oda is really showing that murder really is horrifying and at the same time showing why he has his characters not killing people and I love it.
It really was tragic having the woman you love dying without remembering you and making it worse by not even being able to feel them. Good chapter overall now I'm waiting for the next one to be focused on the other Straw hats hopefully.
Also props to Franky for holding his own against three guys.
I swear to god if fast pacing really is an issue it's Shima's fault for sure.

Whats the obvious answer? Its Doflamingo, remember he came in as the savior to the Royal family's crime and since it seemed that King Riku had escaped he needed someone to give to the public to hate, to remind them of the things the Riku family did and therefore see that he is just. Its why Rebecca is a prisoner in the coliseum
Well, not to get into power level discussion again, but it looks like Kyros was a lot weaker than I previously thought. It seems he got his only wound in the tournament from Ricky, and that, in and of itself is underwhelming. I really don't understand why the toy soldier actually thinks he can defeat Dofla with the microscopic hype he has under his belt right now. All that aside, it was a good chapter.
Again, Usopp used his fake 100T hammer. He never tried to fight or beat hem, just scare Sugar alot. Which he did.

That flashback was really great, Kyros is a badass. He just cut his fucking leg, dangit! And were it not for Sugar, he might have inflicted some damage.
Also, his wife forgot even the promise he made? Hmm.
Another funny thing is how he did seem to be more respected when he was the army's commander but he still couldn't marry the princess. That didn't really feel right, tbh.

If, on Oda's mind, all of this was merely the warm up and now we're finally getting to the real exciting stuff, then I'll forgive all the off-paneling we've had till now.
If the climax is going to play out like this, then Dressrosa will sadly end up being much less than it could've been.
So, Oda, what will it be? Exhilarating, balls to the wall fun? Or of paneled jump cutting gallore, and let's go the next island? I sincerely hope the first.
(Or, as some users like Bucephalus stated, maybe this arc doesn't even matter that much in the big scheme of things and the real, meaty, delicious stuff will come with the first battle against a Yonkou and that's where Oda will blow all his load?).
Man, Usopp is funny but also very sad that he didnt managed to do anything by himself. Same goes to Franky, he screwed his design to be stronger and he cant beat a weirdo in diapers, what a let down.
Curos' flashback has a nice tragic part, but his love story with the princess feels rushed and his character is a bit dumb. And Oda really does have a thing with dead mothers, does he have a trauma with that or something? :P

He's out, just sucks that a SH (cough: robin) probably won't be taking out Trebol. So many new characters taking away from SHs who haven't shown their full growth yet is a little disappointing.

Ending was really weird and lame. Oda went the gag way instead of knocking the kid out, a cheap way out. On the other hand, pretty great flashback. The feels were strong in this one. Really felt for Rebecca at the end during the Coliseum as well, that dude is a total prick. I hope Sabo crushes him. Really great chapter with a lot of pages this week, despite that ending. A shame about Franky as well, but we can't expect him to take out both the DD crew and Marines that have a Vice Admiral at the same time.
By the way calling Kyros weak due to the fact that Riku was the one who wound him would be wrong in my opinion. Kyros could have spotted him when they were about to clash and it would be a good enough shock to him.
I don't think much were skipped in this chapter. I wouldn't care how Usopp lost to Trebol or Akainu or Shanks. Because after some level of a gap it becomes irreleveant. Like happened in Franky's case… Considering a VA is there too.

Btw, I don't really understand on how kyros help king riku to escape. Is it Viola who did a bargain with doffy or what? They have an entire Doffy's man there. Scarlet as princes was died. Even before Doffy go to Dressrosa. How did they know Rebecca is king riku grandchild?
And Franky is defeted eh? Let say that Usopp & Franky wouldn't be able to move. The remaining fighter is Luffy, Zoro, & Kin. That's gonna be though :blink:
Man Kyros, break my heart a thousand different ways.
And poor Usopp. Gets bashed for running away, praised for coming back and mixed reviews for… basically doing the same thing he did to Perona? (albeit unwittingly) Guy just can't get a break. People keep saying they want to see growth for him, and I get that, but he's supposed to always be the most human character that we can relate to. Oda made him this way on purpose. Everything around him is ramping up in terms of crazy and power levels - and no, I'm not talking about who's stronger than who - so the most human thing to do would be to high tail it out of there. Then he had his brave moment, but a human standing against two super-humans (remember everyone else sans fodder) is going to get trounced without a lot of luck. I think the Fishman Island fight spoiled a lot of people on him by thinking that he was taking out stronger beings which was only a Fishman notion.
At least give him some credit for somehow getting the job done!

Ha! I had a problem with the retro-coward Usopp from the last few chapters, but at last he stepped up. Him losing against a (probable) logia and a 2nd experienced DF user doesn't feel wrong. The ultimate, unexpected success of SOP works fine for me too.
I do hope we get at least a couple of pages showing how they got there at the start of next chapter.
Guessing that next chapter focuses back on the arena.
I think Oda's going to want to show the action there before the consequences of SOP.
Rebecca faces a huge disrraction in suddenly remembering her father, not to mention the Dressrosa natives in the audience, and it's not going to do the colleseum any good to be suddenly filled with pissed-off pirates.
Yeah. It just sucks b/c the assumption right now is Zoro and Luffy are fine with enemies of this arc's caliber but it seems Robin and the others aren't. But they won't be fighting and therefore won't be growing so what will happen in the next couple arcs if this continues? More lack of growth and getting out classed. I have faith especially since I don't want ~3 SHs people to the only "main" fighters.
You give me the impression you want 1v1 fights for all SHs? To be honest with you I find those types scenarios boring If overused. It dulls the.series plot. I'm not bothered by Robin n Ussop's apparent weaknesses , I shows to me how far 2 years of training can give one realisticall besides that Robin isn't really a head.on fighter in the first place comparing her to the monster trio is just wrong imo.

Kyros is kind of dumb. But that is what makes this flashback great! Some people are low on the emotion side of things. Adding to that how a wanna-be-forgotten-by-all Kyros fight his way enough to want to go outside and after building a life and having a happy family life gets to be forgotten by all even from his wife who is dying in her arms. His dumbness immensely doubles the impact of that scene because how we feel sorry for him more because in emotional sense he is weak and at the most dire situation.
I'm hoping the marines and Fuji stay on Dofla's side for a while after the toys are transformed because otherwise, Dofla is going to be brutally screwed up the ass by the influx of powerful fighters, including an admiral, coming for him. It saddens me that it already feels like Dressrosa is going to end and we haven't even gotten half the important exposition before we reach the climax. (By the way, did it say anywhere that the SOP operation actually succeeded? Maybe Sugar being knocked out has absolutely no bearing on the toy transformations, and the toys are still toys. Yes. Maybe Oda is fooling us and in the next chapter, the toys will not show any change, and the villains will gain a complete grasp over the situation.)
