@Nilitch:
btw, what does it take to be a teacher in the US ? except the regular 5years at uni. Is there a competitive examination ?
1. Four years usually rather than five for that Bachelors degree, which usually goes hand in hand with a certification process at your college if you are focusing on education. If not you must go through some additional classes and processes to get certified.
2. You must complete student teaching as part of that process, which is generally something like three months shadowing a real teacher, and taking over lessons eventually as well.
-The specifics of how this works changes depending on what sort of teacher you are aiming to be, and what school/institution you are becoming certified through.
-For instance my school required us to have actual experience in both a more moneyed district, and a less fortunate one. I did some observation hours in a richer town so I had to do student teaching in a lower end school, which through some crazy happenstance sort of accidentally ended up being a straight up bottom end inner-city ghetto school. (But in very recent retrospect I'm already very grateful to have had that experience. Ain't SHIT scare me now lol.)
3. You must pass a pair of standardized tests. The first is a general competency exam called the PRAXIS 1, which you can get a waiver for if you have recent enough good grades from high school standardized tests.
4. The second is called PRAXIS 2, and is actually a shitload of different tests based on your focus and subject as a teacher. So you have like PRAXIS 2 for Social Studies, Math, Health and so on.

@Nobodyman:
Not that this is necessarily common, but apparently shit like this can happen (bear in mind this was a private school).
Dude… private schools are a completely different beast in all senses. All the things I just listed are explicitly NOT required for private schools unless the people in charge of that school decide they are.
You can't even be a substitute teacher with an associates degree in the district I work in lol.
