And Rick and Morty cancelled in 5….4....3...2.........
Grimdark Edgy Science Show (Rick & Morty Thread)

Seriously. Oh no, Rick and Morty creator said something offensive 10 years ago? Say it ain't so, it's such wholesome entertainment!
-
While Rick and Morty will be fine, I think that this put the final stake on Community's movie's heart.

Also, I worry about society as a whole. But having a shameful past should weight the president more than an entretainer, I think.

Pickle Rick got an emmy hahaha
-
seriously? Of all episodes, that one?? Come on Emmy's, Tales of the Citadel deserved it far more.
-
Darkest timeline, we don't deserve tales from the citadel.
-
Pickle Rick is great. In addition to being hilarious, well paced, imaginative etc. it also has the most resonant ending of any episode in the season, and the most considered, poignant takedown of Ricks toxic bullshit. The "I'm pickle Riiiick!" meme everyone latched onto is just the surface of the episode.

You must have a high IQ.

My favourite part of that episode was Rick's showdown with the rabid rats.
"Oh, was that your friend? Don't worry, he died doing what he loved. Being a dumb fucking rat!"
"I never gave you a name like Scar, Stripe or Goliath. That's because to me you aren't special.
You were special to rats, now they're dead. I guess it was me you should've impressed."So much savagery.
-
I hope they don't end up getting overly topical like South Park tends to do. But then where do they go from here? I guess maybe something like Rick and Morty getting separated from their bodies and having to ghost their way back into their living torsos while navigating the netherworld. It might not have as many layers as going into the dreams to meet Scary Terry but it's something. Plus Rick can finally meet some gods and tell 'em off like he always does, but to their faces.
-
There is a wide array of sci fi to go through yet. And these are the people who turned their main character into a literal vegetable for an episode, and got an Emmy because of it. They at least have a couple more seasons of good ideas to go.
-
-
Ooh, thanks! That's sooner than I was expecting we'd get that back. Woohoo!
-
This hiatus extended the record by half a year, so it still took a while.
The release of season 4 is half a year away from the current date,
so if things were the same as last time we'd already be watching it XD -
Indeed so. But I remember one of the writers saying last year or something that he figured we wouldn't get new eps until near the end of 2019 at the earliest, and that was before the series was officially renewed, so by the time that happened, I just kind of accepted that we may be waiting until 2020. Though it also sounded like, since S3 was originally intended to have 14 episodes and it got scaled back to 10, they had some plans for that that didn't end up being used for the season, so I suppose that likely gave them a head start when they got started with S4.
-
It's Adult Swim's law. Each season break for an original show will be exponentially longer than the one that preceded it.
-
Season 4 trailer coming through:
-
16 chars. Any date on it?
-
-
-
So, am I understanding the trailer right that we're getting the first 5 episodes all on November 10? Or that's when just the first one airs, and only the first five of the season are scheduled/planned for now? I took what it was saying at the end to mean the former, but just want to make sure I'm not misinterpreting it.
-
I think we're getting the 5 first episodes from the 10th onwards. And the rest after a winter hiatus
I wonder if this season will revolve around family themes as much as the previous season. There was lots of criticism about this among the fans. On the other hand, plenty of persons liked or even preferred it this way

Is it only going to be available on Adult Swim or are there other streaming services that will also have it playing, even if it's not right on the release date of each episode? I know Hulu has seasons 1-3 right now but are they going to wait til when the DVDs come out to have any of season 4's episodes?
It bugs me having to watch the new episodes on that smaller screen in youtube reaction videos if I want to watch them close to their premiere since I don't usually have access to whatever host features it.

I think Adult Swim usually has its shows available for streaming not long after their initial air date.
-
Hm, so has it reached the point where they start recycling old gags and characters?
-
I really love that they used this track for the trailer.
It fits too damn well with the show, well played.

… wrong track tho?
-
No, they pretty clearly used from 38 seconds onwards in the one I posted.
You can literally hear it as the doors open in the R&M trailer.
Go compare it. -
Ah, turns out "Genesis" was used for the first-ish half, and "Stress" for the second-ish.
-
I enjoyed that first episode. Although, I hope the show will drop the nazi/fascist themes in the next episodes. There has been way too much nazi stuff in recent pop culture
-
Anyone have an idea how significant the gap will be between the episodes debuting and when they're up on Hulu?
-
Yeah, I quite liked it! Season's off to a good start, and was definitely worth waiting for.
I didn't get any indication that they were gonna continue the Nazi stuff as any kind of overarching theme. Felt like more of a gimmick for this episode. Fascist Morty in particular seemed like a way of mocking Season 3 haters/toxic "fans": he kills Fascist Rick for being "too political" and demands that Rick C-137 go on "classic Rick and Morty adventures" with him, but then isn't able to give a coherent description of what said classic adventures are, finally just goes with "I like Meeseeks" (one of the most memeworthy characters on the show), and Rick summoning one leads to all of them being killed.
Looking forward to this weekend's episode!
-
Nice episode. There are always a lot of different themes
"people that Rick didn't want to kill" was nice too -

There's your answer right there.
Well, whatever. New season's been fine. It's Rick and Morty. Same as it ever was. Wasn't crazy about last night's episode. Just another Rick-is-better-than-everyone-but-also-gets-a-lot-of-people-killed-no-I-don't-see-the-irony-here episode.
-
Wasn't expecting them to bring Elon Musk as a special guest.
-
Last week's episode was pretty "meh" for me. Rick connecting with Tony was nice enough, but there weren't really story or character beats that hadn't been done before, so the ending was the only part that made me feel much of anything. Also, toilet humor isn't my thing, so a lot of the jokes didn't do it for me.
I liked this week's episode better. Apparently Roiland and Harmon both hate heist movies, but the episode still felt more like a fun parody of 'em than a hateful one. Or, at least, it was fun to watch, anyway. Also, with the last episode and this one, Beth is now 3-for-3 this season in proving her commitment to trying to be a better mom. Glad that's something that the show is sticking to so far.

I was a day 1 Rick and Morty fan, which was easy, since I loved Community so much. I haven't watched any of it this year. The hype just isn't there after so long a wait. I also thought season 3 was weaker than 1 and 2 (but still mostly good). Whenever I do , I do end up catching an episode, I hope I'll be as excited as I was when season 2 and 3 started.

It's been 2 years since the last season, and almost 7 years since the series first aired. And 30 episodes in that time, of course enthusiasm is going to wane.
The new episodes while fine, aren't adding much or giving much to talk about. They're technically well done and not bad in any way, there's some good jokes and WTF moments in there, but its not moving the characters in any way, working an overarching plot, or giving us anything we hadn't already seen in the previous seasons. These same episodes could have been in seasons 1 or 2 or 3 with zero differences.
Yup, that sure is another episode where Rick is an unstoppable demigod getting pissed off about something petty. But he's actually secretly lonely and sad and really loses in the end! Boy he sure is screwing up Morty some more to get his way.
So far, its missing the heart season 1 had, and the character growth season 3 had.
Also, personally at least, I watched behind the scenes stuff that talks about Dan Harmon's process and he's got a great formula for making solid tv… but holy crap once you know his formula you REALLY see it and its very hard to escape because they follow it closely almost minute by minute, and it makes all the episodes very samey no matter how outlandish the actual premise or adventure is.

Ah, I take it you watched this vid too?

Ah, I take it you watched this vid too?
I have not. That's just been their ending on like 15 different episodes now and its really lost its punch.
-
Ah, I take it you watched this vid too?
Why did he have to compare Rick to far-rights wingers though ?
-
Huh. Duckman cameo.
-
Huh, apparently reviews for this episode are all over the place. Some think it was the worst one of the whole season, I've even seen some commenters call it one of the worst of the series (solid disagree there), while others found it quite fun and some even thought it was the best one since the premiere.
Personally, not sure yet where I'd rate it compared to the previous episode–will probably have a better idea in the future once I've rewatched them--but I most definitely liked it better than the second ep with all the toilet humor.
This episode still had its flaws: the swearing got a bit excessive in some places again, the word "slut" was also overused (which was probably the point, but still felt like a bit much even while knowing that), the A-plot could have been better, and for most of Jerry's B-plot with the cat, I felt like "Where is this going?" It certainly wasn't a "top 10" ep. But I still had more fun watching than I did with the toilet ep; Davos Seaworth's voice as the dragon was pretty great, and the cat plotline actually had a pretty good payoff with a nice (and fairly rare) moment between Rick and Jerry.
Midseason finale next week! Almost all of the scenes from the trailer have been used by now, too; I think we're only down to about 2-3 left that'll be in the next one.
-
The concept is getting kind of old, I agree.
Still, the show still manages to entertain me to the point that it's worth watching. It feels like they're at the point of The Simpsons past it's prime, but before going into milking mode with celebrity episodes left and right. -

Bit of a late reply, but for me at least I've just grown exhausted by the overall attitude of the show at this point. It was consistently hilarious and cleverly written, but after three seasons of "Being smart means knowing that nothing really matters, and not caring about anything" it was just too much. Maybe its because I have a kid now. The current world may often be a dystopian hellscape, but now I kinda need to feel that it can be better, that things do matter, and that caring is smart and not dumb. For my daughters sake.
And in that regard, Rick and Morty is just altogether too smugly cynical for me to get back into right now. Its not at South Park levels, but it gives off some of the same vibes
